The Midnight Saga #2

13 Ways to Midnight Book Two

Rate this book
Once upon a time, there was a girl who didn't believe in monsters.
Until now.

Echo Midnight Navarri has reached her seventeenth birthday—alone.
It's been well over a year since her twin, Midnight, slipped from her hand into a ravine shrouded in blue mist deep in the Brazilian jungle.
The locals refer it to as the veil.
Echo believes it is a nightmare.
One that she can't seem to escape.

Her parents, world-famous archaeologists, Peter and Alice Navarri, stayed behind after sending Echo to live with her aunt in a rainy little town at the edge of the world known as Port Royal.
The search goes on, but the mystery remains.

Echo continues to experience visions as the details of the events leading up to that fateful night start to reveal themselves to her.
Piece by piece, bit by bit.
Exposing the truth and forcing in the light where once there was only darkness.

Despite everything, she has managed to make friends, even a new boy, by the name of Asher Tiberious Westbrook the third, a self-proclaimed warlock who doesn't mind that Echo tends to shy away from anyone who wants to be close to her.
But she fears intimacy after losing her sister.
Especially with him.
Not Asher Westbrook.
Thorn Vega.
A boy whose terrifying secrets may outweigh her own.

While many seem to love this series, I am not one of them. The juvenile behavior and self sacrificing behavior (because no one can act like an adult or talk about things) was ever present. I also found myself getting whiplash because none of these characters had a lick of sense in their heads but none were as air headed as the heroine. She loves him, she doesn’t, she loves him but he’s better off without her, he loves her she must break him, she loves him she needs him.....but he’s better off..... ahhhhhhh 🤬🤬🤬 Not to mention the heroine learned how atrocious her Thorns father was and yet she still blindly believes him and right when she has her man, she ruins it all. She never stops to think things through and I was just so disappointed in the book. It was beyond frustrating and the whammy at the end wasn’t even a whammy because I’m sure 99% of people would guess her sister would return in some fashion. That thrown in with the nightmare she had about Midnight and Thorn and I have a horrible suspicion where this is going.
I’m mostly reading this for a buddy read but I’m also here for the RH, but yet again there was not a single sign of it. For the first 75% the only other prospective male character was for the most part disregarded because of her hang ups on Thorn. Still don’t know how or when this will turn positive or smutty for me but until my buddy wants to stop I’ll push through. Maybe somehow by some miracle I’ll find the magic in the series that seems to mesmerize so many others 😂😂🤣🤔🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Where do I even begin? This book wrecked me. Rue Volley pulled out my heart, dangled a small bit of hope in front of me, and then stopped on my heart with the heel of her boot. And I loved every minute of it.

Echo Navari is not just a character in a book. Her pain at losing her sister Midnight drips from the pages of the story. My heart ached for her. Volley has poured her soul into this character and you feel it. You live it.

There is a new boy in town, Asher. I love Asher. Who knew playing a cello could be so sensual. Be still my heart! (You will understand when you read it.)

My favorite character is still Aunt Luna. I adore her spunk and tenacity.

I was glued to my kindle. This story sucks you and hard. And that cliffhanger… well played Mrs. Volley.

Read my full review at http://blackwords-whitepages1977.blog...

I want to start out this review by saying that I have followed this author for many years now and have noticed a significant improvement in her writing and the way she captures her audience and keeps us craving more. And with that being said......

MY THOUGHTS

WOW...

I am completely and utterly speechless after reading this book!! I literally have no words for what I have read...Even though I may have laughed, got my heart broken, snot cried, and was left with one heck of a cliffhanger, I must says this author is a complete genus! This author kept me on the edge of my seat and turning each page from beginning to end.

The characters are phenomenal. I still am in love with them and am torn between Thorn and Ash on who I love more. My heart completely aches for Echo in this story. I feel a real connection with this character. Her emotions seemed to reel me in as the words flowed off of the pages and I just wished that I could pull her out of the book and hug her.

The story-line is POWERFUL. The author made me feel as if I was a part of the story, and not like watching a movie, but as if I was actually living the story inside the book. The feelers are so very raw and felt so very real. So much sadness, heartache, and trauma happened in this story, and yet I couldn't help but want to keep reading to find out more. This is the very first story that I have read that has made me cry so hard for the characters that live inside a book and I must say it is by far my favorite read for 2017.

And if you love a fantastic love story that will make you laugh, cry, and rip your heart out, then this story is for you. I highly recommend it.

I beta read this book for the author and am giving my honest opinion of the story. No remuneration was exchanged.

Well what can I say really. I still Love Aunt Luna she is a real characters. She just brings so much humor to the story. I'm not liking the romance in this one moment it's flowing then it's not and the pettiness of the characters is getting very annoying. It was a good ending though.

She’s done it again. Rue Volley has eviscerated me. This book is a myriad of feelings and I felt them all hit me square in the gut. She sucker punched me and I don’t know if or when I’ll recover. It’s like she brought a wrecking ball and let it loose on my life.
Since book 1 ended on a cliffhanger, I had to dive right into book 2, it was the only thing I could think of that would make me feel better. But now, I’m feeling torn. I’m happy. I’m sad. I’m frustrated. I’ve been left on another cliffhanger and it’s worse than the first one. I feel like I need to hit the vodka. That would make me feel better...temporarily.
I know there are going to be 13 books in this series, so I predict this feeling will come back to haunt me another 11 times. But if it gets worse each time, man am I going to be a mess. I’m also going to suffer withdrawals, because whilst I had the first 3 books queued up to read, there’s now going to be a wait at the end of each book before I get any kind of reprieve. I NEED Rue’s words to keep me going. They’re like a drug and I’m a junkie, waiting for my next fix.

This series is shaping up to be one of my favourite reads. I said in my review of book 1, I haven’t read PNR for a long time. But these books have drawn me right back in and it feels comfortable and familiar, but different and more exciting all at once.

Thorn Vega is so...... swoon worthy, addicting, exciting, infuriating, brooding... I’m just glad he doesn’t sparkle like a diamond in the sun. That would be a step too far. I can’t handle him as he is. I want to hold him and kiss him and have him love me the way he does Echo. But at the same time, I want to kick his [___] into touch! He needs a good old dose of reality. I’d surely love to be the one to give it to him. Smack bang in the middle of his pretty, pretty face!
He keeps hurting Echo and I don’t know whether he knows it or not. I wish he’d pull himself together.

In this book, Echo is tasked with doing the impossible. Eyota Vega asks something of her that I know I would refuse to do. This girl must be made of pretty strong stuff. She’s remarkable. I absolutely adore her. She’s been through some gnarly situations and this one isn’t going to be any prettier. I cried for her. I felt every emotion inside her. She has a pretty tumultuous journey ahead of she agrees to what he asks. But Eyota only ever asks for things that seem to hurt people. He’s already made Echo feel like a total fool. He knows before he asks, that he’s going to hurt her. He’s selfish, thoughtless, deplorable. He only thinks about what he wants and doesn’t give a fig about anyone else’s feelings. So you know Echo shouldn’t do as he asks. But she’s been through so much that it might just be easier if she complies. She’d do anything for the boy with the sea blue eyes, even if it means allowing his father to get his own way.

My feelings bounced all around the place while reading this book and I predict that’s not going to change as the series moves forward. I have to hand it to Ms Volley, she knows how to tug on the heartstrings. I could quite happily sit in a corner, rocking back and forth and weeping. But I won’t. I’ll pull up my big girl panties and suck it up. I’m going to dive into book 3. What can I say, I’m a glutton for punishment. I must like the pleasure-pain thing, because that’s what’s happening here. I’m putting myself through the wringer because I NEED to know what happens next. You can bet your bottom dollar that if you expect something to happen, it won’t. This series is unpredictable and I think that’s what I love the most.

Here goes nothing, I guess. See you on the flip side!

Glued to this book would be an understatement. The more you read, the harder you stuck. There are more twists and turns with Echo and Thorn in this book. But Rue Volley threw in a new character into the mix, just to shake things up.
Halloween was approaching and there was going to be a party at the Arsenal. It once was a Mental Hospital and as everyone knows that after they are abandoned, they become haunted. When Echo gets a phone call from her Aunt, she goes up a floor into a long hallway where she can call her Aunt back and be able to hear her. As the phone rings, she hears whispers and see's shadows. She pays no mind to them as she listens to her aunt and her crazy night she is having. Feeling okay about not having to go home, she heads back to the stairs. She see's a room with a bed, and dresser in it. Some one once lived here she thought. You could tell it had been a long time since it was occupied from the dust and dirk being thick. Echo looks threw some drawers and finds a black box. Laying on the bed, she opens it and falls into sleep that is ravished with a dream that was hard to tell if it was real or not.
Thorn's Dads asked Echo to step away from his son, so he can come into his own and help with the family business. What else he told her would make her heart ache, but she had to be brave and do it for Thorn. It wasn't going to be easy with the hold he has on her, but she knew it was for the best because deep down they were way to different.
There is so much more that I can tell you about the story, but I don't want to give to much away and spoil it for anyone. Rue Volley and her twisted mind put a cliff hanger at the end that beats all cliff hangers. She leaves you dangling a million miles high on a cliff. She had Echo get what she desired, but it is to strange for her. This amazing author has a way of changing the story and leave you hanging. It's called Book Hangover and I have it real bad. Please Rue Volley hurry up with book 3. I need to know what happens so bad!

I have been following Rue Volley for some years now. It has been an amazing journey watching Miss Volley grow and reach higher and dig deeper within while excelling at her craft. This installment is by far some of the best writing from this author. I can tell that she had to reach deep down inside to bring this emotionally raw installment to fruition.

Written so beautifully - the emotions seemed to jump off the page straight into my heart. That's freaken Awesome! Excellent writing skills from an intelligent, dedicated, and multi- talented author. #RuesReads

This is a multi-layered, mind blowing, emotional rollercoaster ride that is easy to follow, and very hard to put down, unless it hit a raw nerve and sent me on a processing spiral.

Echo Midnight Navarri is turning seventeen without her twin sister, Midnight. She is dealing with a plethora of issues that are weighing heavy on her mind and heart. A very believable character with scenereos that mimic real life. Brilliant!

The world building is phenomenal, consistent, believable, dark, and well developed. Teenage angst, hurt, loss, betrayal, uncertainties, raw emotion, fear, anger, love in the mix... you are about to embark on a twisted, turbulent journey of the Rue Volley kind.

Grab the tissues and meet the beautiful, flawed characters within.

I really don`t know where to begin. I thought the book 1 in Midnight series is awsome and can`t get better. I was wrong. Book 2 left me speachless. After a few pages I realised, that I`m in love with this series. It was an epic journey for me, a love story between me and a book (an intense one). I can tell you that this doesn`t happen often. I couldn`t stop reading. I started 3 days ago and finished it yesterday in the middle of the night and slept only 3 hours because of it. And it was worth it, every minute of my time. I`m a little mad at Rue Volley because of the cliffhanger in the end of the book. Not because I didn`t like it - I loved it, but because now I have to wait too long for book 3. If it came out next week, it would be too long. I want book 3 now!!!! And after book 3, I want some more books in Midnight universe....ASAP!!! With book that good I really regret, that a book can never be unread, even for the sole purpose of reading it again for the first time.
When you start reading a book, you think to yourself:"I´ll read a few chapters and then I`ll clean the house, make lunch, play with my kids, work in the garden..." and it usually is like this.....with other books, but not Rue Volley`s books, especially not Midnight saga books. When I started reading this book, all my plans for this day and night were gone from my mind. The house was not cleaned, I cooked with kindle in my left hand and ate with it too, my kids watched TV and played on a tablet that day and I didn`t even remember that I have a garden....there was only the story, which I devoured. I hope they make a moovie or even better a TV series from these books and god help them if they spoil the story.
It's one hell of a series. Compelling plot, complex and intriguing characters, unpredictable twist and turns and just completely amazing reading package. If I could give it 10 stars I would. If you don`t have it on "to-read" shelf you should definately put it on and read it as soon as possible. I have to say again: GOOD WORK RUE VOLLEY! Keep on writing such books, I will buy and read them all - that`s for sure!

This author can bring the characters to life for the reader, feeling every emotion that is written. We follow Echo and Thorn were the first book ends. Odds are stacked against Echo and the pain is real. Knowing that she needs to let Thorn go to become who he was meant to be and not wanting to admit her love for him. We meet new Characters, find out more on Eyota and Aunt Luna and learn to hate certain characters.

Echo still trying to mend from Loosing her twin Midnight. Though for me, I have and maybe hope that there is something more that we might find out later on as this series unfolds. Echo's parents are able to dig further in the matter leaving that journey open.

I can't wait to find out what else is next to this amazing series.

If you think it's hard to be a teenager, add magic and watch things get even more chaotic. Echo has lead an unusual laugh. A twin sister and daughter of fanoua archelogists, she's never known normal. When she loves her sister in a tragic accident and is sent to live with her Aunt in Port Royal, her life resets.

As she struggles with depression and adjusting to a new way of life she meets Thorn. Her "might be " soulmate and vampire. What and who he is brings complications she never could've expected.

This enchanting tale follows her our quirky teen as she learns about herself, the secrets kept from her, and how much love can hurt.

I read this book in 1 day. I couldn't put it down!
I will say that I was so nervous at first at where it was going to go, but HOLY COW! The world Rue has created here is unlike any other, and it just keeps going deeper! My emotions are all over the place, and I can't nail down how I want it to go. I love that! Most books, you know who your rooting for, but not this one!
I cannot wait to see where it will go, but I was left just staring at the last page for awhile unsure if I wanted to cry, scream for joy, or stab something!

If you haven't read book then I suggest starting there otherwise you will be lost as to what is going on and why. That being said.... I didn't think Rue could outdo the first book, but she did. I was glued to every intense moment and hung on every word from beginning to end. 13 Ways To Midnight (The Midnight Saga, #2) will leave you begging for so much more and I do trust that is exactly what we will be given in the next book. I will be impatiently waiting for the next installment to release. I very highly recommend purchasing and reading this book.

This series just keeps getting better and better as the author continues to weave her creative web to ensnare you even more into this paranormal read. Book two introduces us to Asher whom I have a distaste for and though I want to say that I simply don't trust him I'd be somewhat lying as I'm rooting for the vampiric Thorn.

This second installment has us seeing some very intriguing twists and turns that have left me utterly floored and so I'm ready for the next book!!! You definitely do not want to put this book down as the storyline and characters sweep you away into this beautiful tale.

Echo's parents are still in Brazil looking for traces of her sister Midnight. While Echo is in Port Royal trying to move on from her love of Thorn Vega.

When she meets Ash, or Asher Tiberius Westbrook the third. Ash is the new kid and Echo is immediately attracted to him. But she is still very much in love with Thorn.

Enter Thorn's father, Eyota. He tells Echo she has to break Thorn's heart or he will die. He is a vampire after all. And he will not take his rightful place among them without her breaking him so he accepts his fate.

What's a girl to do? Add to it that her Aunt Luna, friend Bri, & Ash all practice magic!

Loved, loved, loved! I seriously cannot wait for book 3! So many things happened in this book that made me angry, lol. And then a couple that made me happy. I’m so on the edge with how I want things to go in the next book. I just can’t make up my mind...wait, yes I can. Thorn and Echo and the rest be damned, haha. Rue, you are a brilliant storyteller. This world has drawn me in and kept me anxiously wanting more and more. I cannot wait for the next book! Wait, didn’t I already say that?

Okay... so personally, I think this book was better than the first. It had everything and I LOVED Asher -I'm secretly hoping they end up together even though it seems unlikely- and damn that chapter where they played the Cello together!
It was fun to read throughout and I got more of an insight into Thorn and Echo's relationship and why Thorn is like the way he is.
What got me was the ending! I just couldn't believe it and it has been begging for book three!!!

Rue Volley did not disappoint in any way. A new character brought in brings a different feel to the story of Echo and you can't help but give your heart to her, wanting to reach out and comfort her. The second book in this series brings new twists that will literally cause your jaw to drop! Valley's ability to provide so many characters that you care for while entwining them in a whirlwind of a story is unsurpassed.

Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off. There is too much of a chance to spoil this story line so I will keep this basic. Book 1 was amazing. I immediately was sucked in this amazing world that Rue Volley created. Book 2 is even better. Echo, the main character, is not your average teenager. Her life is so different than any teen I have ever known. Being the child of archaeologists has taken a toll on her. If you read book 1, you know what it weighing so heavily on Echo in book 2.

If you have read 13 Ways To Midnight book 1 and you loved it, book 2 is a must read. In this installment, we go on an emotional wave from the ocean that never ends. Echo is lost in her head and heart, but also seems to know what she is doing. You will laugh and want to throw your kindle around the room, but you DO NOT want to miss anything!

Amazing Halloween Treat!

13 Ways to Midnight Book 2 is even better than the 1st in the Saga & believe me that was a hard book to top! I laughed & cried with the characters. Rue has been one of my favorite authors for a long time, and this story didn’t disappoint. Although the beginning with Echo and Midnight was so tragic and I’m left wanton for the second book and I can’t wait to begin. I highly recommend this book to anyone who hasn’t read it, and has a love for anything paranormal!

I didn't think I would be as needy for the next book as I was after reading book 1, I was wrong!!!
Picking right up where we left her, Echo is lost, in love, and in denial. She is finally willing to give her heart away again, but the cost is high! The pain too much.
Her heart is broken, and then she meets Asher, she is drawn to him and confused by him. Her heart knows what it wants. She likes him, but not like he likes her. He is amazing tho, I want to hate him, but I can't! The fighting over Echo is quite amusing tho!
Just when you think things might straighten out, they get crazier, and crazier! Then WHAT THE WHAT! Did I mention, I am dying for book 3!

I liked this continuation of the story. I did not think it was as enjoyable as the first in the series, yet worth the read. I have liked these enough that I must see how they end. :)
