Reality cooking show host, Megan Forrester, braces for a film crew interruption of her long-awaited lighthouse tour vacation. While Megan cooks in a fake kitchen on a filming set, she misses out on heating up things in a real bedroom. As if onlys pile up like a stack of failed gluten-free recipes, she looks forward to a fun escape and getaway with her best friends from childhood and is no way prepared when fate intrudes.
When she steps into an unnatural fog in the present, she stumbles into the arms of a sexy pirate turned supply runner Everett Quinn in 1892. Everett sets out to waylay a man that threatens Everett’s livelihood. While Harbor Keep’s founder, Captain Zachariah Donovan, controls most of the town, he has no say against Everett and his former pirate mates. Destiny, on the other hand, holds sway.
A steamy time travel romance in which true love tests the boundaries of time and fate.
From the Mist, Book 1 of the Hidden Cove Time Travel Trilogy, from the time travel historical romance Harbor’s Keep Series, features pirates, paranormal elements, sizzling romance, and high seas romantic adventure.
Steamy. Light swearing. High heat. Unique, refreshing, intimate scenes, edgy adventure, and daring, sensual romance.
Author Alexa Dare, with the oversight of the Jellicle Three (Jasmine, Lightning, and Stormy of feline persuasion), writes time travel and paranormal romance the way she likes to read them: sensual, adventurous, memorable. Along with spending time with her happily-ever-after alpha outdoorsman, Alexa cozies up at home—when not devoting her time to writing and bringing sexy romances to readers—with movies, popcorn, and triple chocolate cupcakes, not necessarily in that order.

Time travel romance is tricky. It either works or it doesn’t. I’m not sure that this one does. So far, it’s all in the dark, literally. Everyone is stumbling around in the dark. It got really confusing keeping track of who was who in the dark.
We have the romance part. Megan and Everett are all set. They’ve fallen in love and gotten together in spite of Captain Donovan’s best efforts. And man, he’s one bad man. Actually, he’s evil, a real nasty character. I just hope he stays in the past and that he isn’t his own descendant or something like that. But I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him.
Both Jo and Abigail are missing in the fog, though whether they are in the present or past isn’t determined, yet. Isabelle, the Captain’s wife, is still missing in the past. I’m pretty sure Ursula had something to do with that. And does Ursula have something to do with the curse or whatever it is that Mrs. Carlisle is worried about? And who is Mrs. Carlisle? Is she someone from the past or a descendant?
There was no real HEA because Megan and Everett are still in the past with her entire life up-in-the-air and he’s barely hanging on. So, while I sat and read this book in one sitting and really enjoyed it, I’m not convinced it should get all those stars. There are just so many things unresolved. It’s too much like a prequel from that point. Abigail’s story is next in Of the Deep and then it’s Jo’s story in On the Edge. I do plan to read both of them because I liked the first book and want to know what happens. Check it out and see what you think.
The plot was conceived most likely by a teenager as it didn't make any sense. The public fondling in front of the crew and in the middle of a storm was ghrrrr. Trapping the hero in the lighthouse by 2 severely injured individuals with mortar (how convenient!) Heroine cooking ham and gourmet dinner in an abandoned adobe while having sex with a stranger - they fell in love? How? 2 promiscuous and wanton individuals that started being physical with each other within 2 seconds of meeting. There was no character, personality or anything redeeming about all films in this tale.
A steamy time travel romance by Alexa Dare. Book number 1 in the Hidden Cove Trilogy!
Reality cooking show host, Megan Forrester has planned a week’s vacation with her two best friends, touring on Maine’s lighthouses. While bringing a week’s supply over to the rented cottage, they spot a lighthouse through the mist and decide to visit! As the mist get’s thicker, they stop the car and try to see to their whereabouts!
Megan gets separated from her friends and ends up in a shore, losing her modern clothes, wearing an old rug instead. Her bare feet sink in the wet sand as she hears angry barking. Danger seems to approach when she bumps to a wide and strong chest of a gorgeous seaman. Her rescuer, Everett Quinn.
As it turns, danger that lurks in the shadows is Captain Zachariah Donovan the founder of the town. A powerful and mean person that wants to drain life out of Quinn and the likes of his, as he holds them accounted for his missing wife. Captain threats to take Megan away from Everett if his wife is not found that very night.
The Hidden Cove Trilogy starts on an adventurous and steamy way that is really promising! The time travel story that unfolds has a prophesy kind of background that is not to become known to the reader until the very end of the book. Looks like all three friends are to travel back to 1800s in order for this prophecy or promise to be fulfilled. The reader is expected to read about the other two girls’ trips to the past in the next books. Based on this first one, they are expected to be sizzling romances as well. And this is the intriguing part of the story, however, Megan and Everett’s story is complete as such.
The blurb promised a steamy time travel romance and it really delivered. The plot was very simple for the series- 3 friends from the southern US are starting a week's vacation in Maine and end up getting lost in supernatural fog. With that for a series premise I could not resist and I had to check it out. So this is the story of Megan and her trip to 1892. The story had a hero, Everett a supply runner, and a villain I loved to hate, Zachariah founder of the town and all round horrible person. Spent most of the book thinking what will it take to kill Zachariah, he needs to die, will he ever die. Full of steamy love scenes and sword battles (Zachariah has the monopoly of delivering gun powder to the town and the recent delivery was ruined by getting wet, so no guns). The book was full of steamy love scenes, many sword battles and Megan the celebrity chef cooking meals here and there. Thought cooking was a different and unique way to write a romance instead of the old tried and true feminine wiles or hiding in a closet to get out of trouble. Instead Mega hides in the tavern cooking chicken wings. OK I thought it was funny and a better hiding place then a closet in the healers cottage (bad guys looked there first). All in all I thought it was a great steamy romance.
Reading as part of a boxed set. This should not be viewed as a standalone - there are too many outstanding questions that need to be answered at the end. Well edited.
Megan and her friends, Jo and Abigail, go on vacation in Maine. While visiting a lighthouse, a mysterious fog swallows Megan and transports her to 1811 Maine. There, she runs into Everett Quinn, reformed pirate and supply (read blockade) runner. They run afoul of Zachariah Donovan, also a supply runner and the town tyrant. Poor Zachariah's wife has run off, and while searching he happens upon Megan and Everett. Zachariah decides he wants Megan, nevermind his missing wife. Competition ensues. Ships are burned. Some are wrecked. Megan and Everett find themselves in a fight for their lives. Will they survive? How and why did Megan end up in 1811? Will Everett believe her tale of the future?
So many questions - what is the purpose of Megan's time travel? What happened to Isabelle, Zachariah's wife? What happened to Megan's friends, Jo and Abigail? For that matter, what happens to Everett's friends, Nathan and Luke? And what about poor Meeshoe - swept away in a shipwreck? What exactly is going on in this sleepy little town? An easy read, but be prepared to read all three books if you want the full story. Enjoy.
This is a captivating, suspenseful and thrilling story that has non stop action and drama from start to finish. Everett is bold, daring, tough, determined, protective and charming. Megan is smart, brave, talented and strong. Megan is transported through time by a strange mist and finds herself being chased by men and dogs. When she literally runs into Everett, the spark between them is irresistible and he fights off her pursuers. They end up separated, but he tracks her down and steals her away to his ship. The adventure really gets intense from there, and so does their attraction. The story is so good that I couldn't put it down. This should be on your TBR list at the top. I received a complimentary copy of this book from APX Elite Reviewer. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I enjoyed this book with it's time travel and magic elements. The romance part was good but I didn't enjoy the graphic sex. The story for me would have just as good or better based on the other parts.
From the Mist is the first in a three part series about three friends who are on vacation after years of not seeing each other. They drive on a road to a lighthouse and a strange mist comes upon them. You'll have to read the book the find out the rest.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was blessed with a free copy of this book, and have chosen of my own volition to share this review with you!
A bunch of girls head out on an long-anticipated girls vacation. Exploration of the local sights, namely light houses is on the agenda. On the way to the first light house, a dense fog descends. One friend gets separated from the others, ending up warped back two hundred years. The story continues from there. Finding love, lust, and danger!
This book took a bit to get into. The story line was a bit hard to follow, but once I got a handle on the time jump it all made sense.
I enjoyed this book. It took me a little while to get into it, but I put that down to personal stresses at work, but when I finally found some chill time I powered through it. The love scenes are intense and build up over time but not sure if it warranted a whole chapter for each orgasm. I won't give any spoiler's away but the next two books in the trilogy are now on my (ever growing) books to read list. If they are anything like the first book I'm sure I shall enjoy them, but I would also like to see a fourth book taking the future forward too if it 's not covered in the next books.
The main reason I was intrigued by this book was the time travel aspect. While it was well written, I just couldn't get into the instant passion and instant love between the main characters. In short, it was too far of a stretch to be even remotely believable. That being said, it was a good read but left far too much shrouded in mystery with regards to the cause of the time travel for my tastes. I understand it's a trilogy, but a bit more information in this one would have made me much more likely to check out the next in the series.
Three friends take a weeks vacation from the reality cooking show in which Megan stars. Suddenly deep fog rolls in and Megan finds herself in a new reality. Time travel stories have been the reason I haunted the library from sixth grade forward. The series follows each of the friends through their adventures. This story is believable and written with details that made me shiver. I received this novel free and am writing an honest review.
A fast paced steamy romance that keeps you glued til the end. The connection between Megan and Everett is instantaneous and full of heat. The villain in the story, Captain Donovan, is downright scary. He has no morals and will do anything to get what he wants. I loved the drama and the chase to keep one step ahead. I can't wait to read the next story in the series.
I tend to finish books (even the ones I don't like) because I want to see what happens or see if it gets better. Unfortunately, I have to add this to my DNF pile (which is extremely short). I'm having a hard time getting into this story. The first few chapters are just not interesting. I will give it another try at a later date.
I gave up on this mid-way through the third chapter. I have too many books waiting to be read to waste time on something I am simply not enjoying. I have no idea what is going on in this story and, frankly, I don't care enough to continue reading long enough to find out. This one just wasn't for me.
This is a new author for me and a new genre as well. I'm not much for time-tavelling books but I found this story intriguing. It left me curious of Megan's friends adventures, so I might check out the sequal to this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I can’t believe how well the author used Fog, history, love and cooking to make a beautiful book on relationship, self growth, and determination. This book provided prolonged entertainment and curiosity. I’m not going to give anything away, you have to discover this gem for yourself. I received this book as a gift, but will definitely be buying a copy (or2) for my friends.
Hidden Coves lighthouse is what three friends want to see. Jo, Abigail, and Megan, a cooking show chef, having to Maine for a girls vacay. On the way, determined to see at least one lighthouse, they are enveloped in a mystical fog and taken back to 1892.
A quick engaging read. Would any of these ladies stay in the past to break the curse?
I didn't care for the story much. I was more interested in the old woman and the Donavon guy trapped by the fog than I was for Everett and Megan. Also, who kisses a complete stranger when they run into them? I also didn't like the food analogies. It turned me off to Megan.
This very well written time travel romance is both mysterious and exciting. Megan's adventure in 1892 gave her the opportunity to meet Everett Quinn. Her involvement in the 19th century becomes uncertain as she wonders if getting back to the 21th century will even be possible.
Exciting time-travel. It is kind of a cliffhanger and since it is a trilogy, I will have to get the other two volumns to see how it ends. I usually avoid cliffhangers because they are often not worth pursuing. However I think may be an exception.
If you love the Outlander series, then you will love these books! Instead of standing stones taking you to the past it's the thick mist formed from a witch. Great love story, can't wait to read more!
Well written and what a good read is all about. It follows three friends as they go back in time and the adventures they go on. It is exciting, emotional, fun, adventurous, intriguing and so much more. I highly recommend it. I was given a review copy and voluntarily reviewed it.
This book was hard to make sense of. There were several times that I wasn’t quite sure who was where or what had just happened. Megan and Everett were likable enough with the villain being dastardly. It is short, so I finished it, just.
Adult in nature, A great portion is invested in gratification especially in the beginning. Then it seems to get to more of an explanation of the story. Some areas make little sense but can always be said to be teasers for follow on stories.
I enjoyed this story so very much. This is the first for me with this author and trust me when I say it won't be the last. Very mystifying lot's of suspense and intrigue. I enjoyed it very much.
