Meet Timmy, a lovable monster who can’t get enough of the coolest gadgets and video games. Too bad he doesn’t realize how much time he spends each day in front of a screen.
In the same humorous spirit of Diary of a Wimpy Kid comes Timmy’s Monster Diary: Screen Time Stress. Using the “Time-Telling” and “ST4” techniques developed by Dr. Raun Melmed of the Melmed Center in Arizona, Timmy’s Monster Diary teaches kids how to self-monitor the amount of time they spend on technology. Timmy’s hilarious doodles and diary entries chronicle his delightful adventures, misadventures, and eventual triumph in a funny, relatable way. It’s the one book that kids will want to turn off the TV and read!
Timmy’s Monster Diary also includes a resource section to help parents and teachers implement Dr. Melmed’s methods, plus ST4 reminders that kids can remove, color, and place around the house.
Ages 6–12. Don’t miss Marvin’s ADHD adventures in Book 1.
Where do I begin? Winning this giveaway put polish on my #1 mom medal. My son could not stop reading it and couldn’t stop telling me how much he loved it! He snuck out of bed and I found him cozied up to the hall light reading it. We each read it and had our own little book club about it. As a mom and a teacher, I see how this book hits on so many teachable moments. The pictures, easy reading style, and relatable topics draw kids in. The lessons sprinkled throughout are perfect for parents and teachers to implement in a non-preachy manner. There are great tools for us to use in this book! I will be sharing this book with my son’s teacher, my mom friends, and my local mom blog! We would love to read more by this very thoughtful author.
My son really enjoyed Marvin's Monster Diary, so I purchased this one, hoping it would encourage him to think about his tendency to spend all day on his tablet or watching tv. The story was indeed geared that direction. Marvin makes appearances, the drawings are still very engaging, the character is relatable, the advice seems functional (and my son actually wanted to make an ST4 badge this morning, which I would have encouraged if he wasn't supposed to be getting ready for school). My son is now asking me to buy him more Monster Diary books ASAP. He's already asked multiple times, and he only got and read this book yesterday! In fact, he really wanted to read it again, but I wasn't up for it then-I will be soon!
Reread this and loved it more than the first time. (I might also be a little extra invested since I'm a coauthor of other books in the series now!) I'm trying Timmy's time log today, because time management is a major struggle for me!
