Yasutaka Tsutsui (筒井康隆) is a Japanese novelist, science fiction author, and actor. Along with Shinichi Hoshi and Sakyo Komatsu, he is one of the most famous science fiction writers in Japan. His Yume no Kizaka Bunkiten won the Tanizaki Prize in 1987. He has also won the 1981 Izumi Kyoka award, the 1989 Kawabata Yasunari award, and the 1992 Nihon SF Taisho Award. In 1997, he was decorated as a Chevalier Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.

His work is known for its dark humour and satirical content. He has often satirized Japanese taboos such as disabilities and the Tenno system, and has been victim to much criticism as a result. From 1993 to 1996, he went on a writing-strike to protest the excessive, self-imposed restraint of Japanese publishers.

One of his first novels, Toki o Kakeru Shōjo (1967), has been adapted into numerous media including film, television and manga. Another novel, Paprika (1993), was adapted into an animated film by the director Satoshi Kon in 2006.

Although it has an interesting premise, the first volume of this series feels more than a bit jerky and lacks a consistent flow. The dialogue is somewhat stilted and it's not always clear what is going on using the art either. Still, it's not unenjoyable, it's just not as good as I was hoping after having seen the related Girl Who Leapt Through Time movie.

Very cute but frustrating. I was getting bored until the "secret" of the story was divulged at the end. Then the rest of the story was more interesting and made sense. If only it could have been interesting without knowing the secret and then becoming better when you found out ... wow, that probably makes no sense but I don't want to spoil it.

I was expecting more of everything yet even after realizing it lacked the better art of a girl who runs through time and also didnt really give us a connection with the characters i kept reading, its good enough to be enjoyable and its a really sweet premise, love overcoming time.

I was also dissapointed that they didnt at all explain how it was that she time traveled.

mentre i disegni 6,5

Pretty art and interesting concept, but for the most part, that's all it had.

The story was all over the place. One minute they're doing this, then something totally different. Time travel can do that sometimes, but it killed the flow of the story, making it even more confusing and all over the place than it normally would be. There was nothing to show the reader that a "transition" had occurred sometimes.

Over all, look for the movie, "The Girl who Leapt Through Time." Same story (I believe movie was based on the same novel this is based on, but don't quote me), but the flow is much better and you don't end up going, "What just happened?" like you do after reading this.

I loved the recent animated feature, but was rather cold to this manga version. It feels very rushed, with not enough time to get to know the characters and some art where I just could not understand what was happening.

Honestly great plot and so intriguing. I've read through it several times and I'm still discovering new nuances in the plot. The reason its not rated higher is because of one use of the Lord's name in vain.

I like the movie better - it's certainly a lot more sentimental and a little easier to follow.
