The Littles is a timeless favorite that's been enjoyed for decades. Ready to grab the attention of a new generation, fresh cover art brings an updated look to this classic series.
Meet the Littles, a family like any other but with a few tiny differences! They live in the walls of the Bigg family house where they get everything they need. In return they make sure the Bigg house is always in good repair.
When Dinky comes home from his latest adventure, he's not alone. Della came back with him and they're going to be married! But a tiny person wedding takes a huge amount of preparation. The Littles need to get everything ready and travel to a neighboring house by the next day. Will they be ready in time?
I think to write a review of The Littles Have a Wedding, you have to get rid of the obvious within the first few sentences; this whole series is literally a copy of The Borrowers, and as expected, there's very many irritating Big/Small puns (the Littles live in the walls of the Biggs' house, yay!)
and it grated tbh. But, I have to remember this isn't made for me, I'm too old etc., so this does get a pass for its simplistic writing, overall averageness. And I used to love this growing up, so again it does get a little special treatment. However, this does not excuse the fact that this is just so boring. Mercilessly short, yes, but I can imagine young kids being bored out of their mind (I wasn't a kid, I was an evil, precocious cyborg). The literal highlight of the novel is a group of scary cats sitting waiting around a hot air balloon before going off to do cat things, like sit in the sun and lick their paws, and young kids deserve adventure in their novels just as much as we do! I just can't help but feel if I had read this with a brain I would have been slightly peeved. At least they had cool names.
"The Littles" series is about a family that lives inside the walls of the Biggs family house. They supply them with everything they need, and the Littles always make sure their house stays in good shape. In this book, the Littles have to go to their cousin Dinky's wedding, and are in serach for the perfect gift. The Littles is a great series for kids because it is an easy start to chapter books, and in each thing that the Littles go through there is comedy. I would categorize this as K-4, but I think it is more 2-3 grade over K and 1st grade.
I read this the other day to check it out for Sam. I gave it to her and she "likes it so far" but she keeps getting distracted because of the fairy books. If it doesn't have fairies it's not totally awesome apparently. Too bad the Littles have tails and not wings :-) I thought it was cute though and definitely something she could read but still age-appropriate.
This was boring. It's nice it ended in a wedding, and it is sweet and innocent enough, but nothing really happens here. The moments that could be exciting (the cats, the glider and the boy, the pastor at the wedding) are incredibly dull and lifeless. I don't really care for the Littles, but my kids like them.
A very cute story about a family that lives in the walls of a home, where the family is much bigger. The Littles face many challenges, yet they tackle them together as a family. The Littles are a multi-generational family.
Both my kiddo and I had some problems with the House Tinies' world-building here--why on earth do they need to piggyback onto Big People's wedding ceremonies? It was still a cute book, but a reminder that some books just don't stand up to scrutiny.
After we finished reading The Littles I made the mistake of showing the girls the next three books - we had to skip ahead in the series to the wedding one, of course. The girls liked it!
I liked this book because it is a funny story. The characters are the Littles. I liked the grandma the best. She is hard of hearing. I recommend this book.
My eight-year-old daughter Penelope read The Littles earlier this year. She loved the book so much, we looked up the series on Google. Once we discovered there was a book in the series with a wedding in it, she eagerly had me order it from the library. We have enjoyed reading it.
The Littles are small people, about six inches high, with tails that live in the homes of humans. They try to stay hidden from the humans, which leads to all sorts of adventures. In The Littles Have a Wedding, Cousin Dinky has found the love of his life and is getting married to Della Kett. In order to have a proper wedding, the Littles have to find another home where a human wedding is taking place to put on a wedding of their own. Getting to the wedding turns into quite an adventure.
Penelope loved the adventure at the beginning as Cousin Dinky used his glider to save people. Penelope also loves romance so she really liked that this novel was all about a wedding.
Overall, The Littles is a fun chapter series for beginning readers.
Planning weddings are always an exciting adventure. Especially when the weddings involve bringing together a community of tiny people only six inches tall. Traveling for days across neighborhoods with the dangers of cats or being discovered by regular sized people. Now imagine doing that in one day.
The Littles Have a Wedding is a fun addition to The Littles series that lets young readers get to know the characters even more. We meet more littles and learn more about that world.
As a child, I read every one of these books in the series I could get my hands on. They have inspired my imagination for decades. Because of them, I branched out to find any books on 'little people' I could find. This series is well-written, and engaging with amazing illustrations. I highly recommend any of The Littles series to children of all ages.
Writing is getting a little repetitive at this point in the series. Even I can think of better word choices to not sound so redundant that most early to mid-grade readers could handle. But the girl likes them so we'll probably read another one.
This was another cute read in a great series. There was just enough suspense to keep it moving along at a good clip, and the characters were relatively well-developed. I highly recommend this to the intended age group, and enjoyed the read myself.
3.5 stars (3/10 hearts). The Littles are super cute. Even the more stereotypical characters are balanced out by the fun ones (specifically Uncle Peter and Granny). Of course I enjoyed the wedding part and Dinky + Della make a lovely little couple. Still, I didn’t find this story quite as fun as book 1, somehow…
