In Living in the Light, Shakti Gawain introduced a powerful new way of that of listening to one's own intuition and relying on it as a guiding force. In the newly revised edition of that classic work, she elaborates on her original ideas, adding aspects of her own experiences and learning process over the past twelve years. In addition to balancing feminine and masculine energies, she now examines several other fundamental polarities we all have, such as power and vulnerability. Everyone's life journey involves developing the full range of self and acknowledging all aspects of one's personality — including both light facets and dark.
Shakti Gawain is an author and proponent of what she calls "personal development". Her books have sold over 10 million copies, according to her website. Gawain's best known book is "Creative Visualization". She has also written "Living in the Light", "Awakening", "Meditations", "The Path of Transformation", "The Four Levels of Healing", "Creating True Prosperity" and "Developing Intuition". She is the co-founder, with Marc Allen, of New World Library Publishing Company and founder of Nataraj Publishing, a division of New World Library.
If I had read this book even one year earlier, I'm sure I wouldn't have fully gotten it. Something would have resonated but not really sunk in. Books like this, you have to be ready for but when you are ready it is very enlightening just like The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. For me, he was the precursor that allowed me to fully understand this book eventhough the concepts are pretty simple and i'm sure reflected in other book like The Secret or Deepak Chopra's work. I'm getting to those soon.
First, I should preface this review by saying that I believe the edition I read was an earlier one, which may have not been thoroughly updated. That said, what I did read was, well... not too revolutionary. I have read a number of books in this vein and know what entails a good read. For me, that has to be something which really challenges me and not so much gives me answers, but new questions and avenues to explore. This book did not do this for me. Basically, Shakti explains her background. She is very self-congratulatory (I felt) as she explains that she lives her life by intuition, and has done all kinds of things people have felt were crazy, because she listened to her intuition.
I really feel that this book has one core truth to offer, and that is listen to your intuition, your immediate feelings, your first thoughts. Don't analyze. Just be.
But you don't need to read this book in order to get that insight. You just got it from reading my review of the book.
If you are interested in learning about the author herself, this book may be a good read as it explains quite a bit of her background and her spiritual growth. But it's overall a very general book, which offers no real answers other than "follow your intuition." And I feel that a book which purports to discuss "planetary transformation" ought to offer something more than that one insight.
Shannon recommended this book to me and I am so grateful. It's been on the shelf for awhile, and only recently I had the urge to pull it down and delve in-and oh how synchronistic because it's exactly what I needed to hear RIGHT NOW. Don't you love how books work like that? The right ones seem to come at just the right moment, with just the right message and information. Thanks Shannon!
I liked this book when I was younger, but in rereading it at age 43, I find it hard to trust. Shakti is certainly a humble author who is still searching (rather than resting on her past "discoveries"), but some of her ideas seem to be nothing more than convenient personal inventions. For example, she suggests that anyone we are in conflict with is simply a manifestation of an internal conflict that we have externalized in order to resolve. I find this theory offensive in its tidy resolution of the question of suffering. Would she really tell rape victims or abused children that they had manifested their perpetrators to resolve an inner conflict?
I gave her 3 rather than 2 stars due to her deference to 12-step programs.
I loved this book 25 years ago, when it was first published, and I love it now that a 25th anniversary edition has been released. Like me, Gawain has lived and learned since the first edition, and she has added some of this experience and its lessons to the still true and relevant information from before. A whole new generation can benefit as I have from her insight, experience and compassionate viewpoint. As a companion to her Creative Visualization classic, this book is a treasure of thoughts and meditations to focus your awareness on peaceful, joyful living no matter what hills and valleys your life path encounters. To see all of your life with new eyes, fresh perspective, hidden meaning and complete connectedness is to find purpose and strength to endure and flourish, to attract and contribute to the good. Gawain helps remind us to let go of the everyday stresses and turn to the higher viewpoint, the overall pattern of our lives -- which I can tell you is a lot easier to see the older you get. A lot of books claim to be able to "change your life," but this one helps you see how to do that for yourself.
Shakti's followup to Creative Visualization. This book contains guided meditation exercises. A group of friends used to meet every week in Westport and meditation together using this book as a guide. Oh, the 90s.
Perhaps I was not receptive enough to the aura of this book or didn’t understand its message well. It encourages you to listen to your feelings so that your actions are in peace with yourself and the world around you. This is extremely important to avoid stress and to practice emotional intelligence. However, I don’t quite agree on the message of trusting our intuition above all, or that a wrong decision will eventually lead you to something good because that’s the way the universe works. As humans, I do believe our intuition sometimes guides us wrongly, because of hope or because of fear. We can make mistakes many times. All we gain is experience. It can be an interesting reading however, and it does enhance self love and inner trust. Listening to Shakti Gawain in person might be better than reading her to understand her vision.
I greatly appreciate this book. I've asked for it on my Christmas wish list so I can have it to refer back to. So many powerful reminders about who we are and what we are capable of. I definitely needed to hear the reminder over and over that I am a channel for the Universe's energy. I feel that and want to feel it even more. I am creating the life that I want. I've been blocking myself from creating what I want and having it for a long time now, due to limiting beliefs. I'm ready to channel the energy that creates alignment for me, for my highest good and greatest joy. Thank you.
“Relax and enjoy the feeling or thought that you are being totally taken care of by the universe. Say this affirmation to yourself silently or aloud: ‘I feel and trust the presence of the universe in my life.’” pg. 12
“Once we accept the reality of a higher power that is channeled to us through our intuition, it becomes clear that many of our personal problems and the ills of the world are actually caused by not following our intuition.” pg. 16
“Every creative genius has been a channel. Every master work has been created through the channeling process. Great works are not created by the personality alone. They arise from a deep inspiration on the universal level and are then expressed and brought into form through the individual personality.” pg. 22
“In order to live fully and creatively, it’s important to stay focused on following your own energy. This focus allows your channel to remain open to the energy flowing through. It’s so easy to lose your focus, to get lost in other people, external goals, and desires. And the problem is, we do exactly that: we lose our connection with ourselves. As long as we are overly focused on the outside there will always be an empty, hungry, lost place inside that needs to be filled.” pg. 27
“As you become increasingly conscious of the flow of life moving through you and through everything and everyone else, your body will become capable of channeling more energy. The more energy you are willing to receive, the more you’ll be able to give.” pg. 28
“To become a clear channel for the universe presents the highest challenge and offers the greatest potential joy and fulfillment for every human being. Being a channel means living fully and passionately in the world, having deep relationships, playing, working, creating, enjoying money and material possessions, being yourself, yet maintaining your profound connection with the power of the universe within you, learning and growing from every experience that you have.” pg. 28
“When there are problems in your life, the universe may be trying to get your attention. It’s saying, ‘Hey, there’s something you need to be aware of, something that needs to be changed over here!’ If you pay attention to the call signals, you will learn from them. However, if you don’t, the problems will intensify until you get the message and start to pay attention. If you accept that every time a problem occurs the universe is showing you something, you will make rapid progress on your journey of self-discovery.” pg. 43
“When something ‘negative’ happens, it’s tempting to say, ‘Why does this happen to me? I’m doing the best I can but nothing seems to be going right. I can’t understand why I keep having this problem.’ If you find yourself doing this, try to open up to another way of looking at things. Go within and say to the universe, ‘I know you’re trying to show me something. Help me understand what it is.” pg. 43-44
“The spirit usually tends toward expansiveness, risk taking, and change. The form often tends toward what it perceives to be safety, security, and the status quo, because its basic task is to make sure we survive and it fears that change might mean disaster or death.” pg. 63
“As you do the work of integrating spirit and form you may see your physical body change and become lighter, stronger, more clearly defined, healthier, and more beautiful. Because your life is your creation and the mirror of your transformation, all the forms in your life—your work, money, car, house, relationships, community, the world—will increasingly express the power and beauty of your spirit.” pg. 64
“The qualities that women have looked for in men—strength, power, responsibility, caring, excitement, romance—must be developed inside of ourselves. A simple formula is this: just treat yourself exactly the way you would want to be treated by a man! The interesting thing is that what we create within us is always mirrored outside of us. This is the law of the universe. When you have built an inner male who supports and loves you, there will always be a man, or even many men, in your life who will reflect this. When you truly give up trying to get something outside yourself, you end up having what you always wanted!” pg. 78-79
“If you know on a deep level that the person you’re attracted to is a mirror of yourself, you cannot be overly dependent on him or her because you know that everything you see in your partner is also in you! You recognize that one of the main reasons you’re in the relationship is to learn about yourself and deepen your connection with the universe. So, healthy relationships are based on the passion and excitement of sharing the journey into becoming a whole person.” pg. 81
“At first you may find that the more you act on your intuition, the more things in your life seem to be falling apart—you might lose your job, a relationship, or certain friends, or your car might even stop working! You’re actually changing rapidly and shedding the things in your life that no longer fit. As long as you refused to let go of them, they imprisoned you. As you continue on this new path, following the energy moment by moment as best you can, you will see new forms begin to be created in your life—new relationships, new work, a new home, a new form of creative expression, or whatever. It will happen easily and effortlessly. Things will just fall into place, and doors will open in a seemingly miraculous way. You may have times when you will just go along, doing what you have energy to do, and not doing what you don’t have energy to do, having a wonderful time, and you will, literally, be able to watch the universe creating through you. You’re starting to experience the joy of being a creative channel!” pg. 94-95
“Trusting your intuition means tuning in as deeply as you can to the energy you feel, following that energy moment to moment, trusting that it will lead you where you want to go and bring you everything you desire. It means being yourself, being real and authentic in your communications, being willing to try new things because they feel right, and doing what turns you on.” pg. 97
“On the emotional level, it is our resistance to a feeling that causes us pain. If, because we are afraid of a certain feeling, we suppress it, we will experience emotional pain. If we allow ourselves to feel it and accept it fully, it becomes an intense sensation, though not a painful one. There are no such things as ‘negative’ or ‘positive’ feelings—we make them negative or positive by our rejection or acceptance of them. To me, all feelings are part of the wonderful ever-changing sensation of being alive. If we love all the different feelings we experience, they become so many rainbow colors of life.” pg. 106
“In order to do this, it’s important to understand that our external relationships reflect our internal relationships with ourselves. My primary relationship is my relationship with myself—all others are mirrors of it. As I learn to love myself, I automatically receive the love and appreciation that I desire from others. If I am committed to myself and to living my truth, I will attract others with equal commitment. My willingness to be intimate with my own deep feelings creates the space for intimacy with another. Enjoying my own company allows me to have fun with whomever I’m with. And feeling the aliveness and power of the universe flowing through me creates a life of passionate feeling and fulfillment that I share with anyone I’m involved with.” pg. 124-125
“In the old world of relationships, the focus was on the other person and on the relationship itself. We communicated for the purpose of trying to get the other person to understand us and give us more of what we needed. In new world relationships, the focus is on building our relationship with ourselves and the universe. We communicate to keep our channel clear and to give ourselves more of what we need. The words we speak may even be the same, but the energy is different, and so is the result.” pg. 127
“What causes pain in many cases is that we don’t know how to allow the form to change while still honoring the underlying love and connection. When you are deeply involved with another human being, the soul connection often lasts forever. The intensity of energy in the relationship, however, increases or decreases in accordance with how much there is to be learned from it at any given time. When you’ve learned a great deal from being with someone, the energy between you may eventually diminish to the point where you no longer need to interact on a personality level as much, or at all. Sometimes, the energy renews itself again later on another level.” pg. 133
“We don’t understand this, so we feel guilty, disappointed, and hurt when our relationships change form. We don’t really know how to share our feelings effectively with each other, and so we often respond to these feelings by cutting off our connection with the other person. This causes us real pain, because we are actually cutting off our own deep feelings. I have found that changes in relationships can be less painful, and at times even beautiful, when we can communicate honestly and trust ourselves in the process.” pg. 133-134
“For me, commitment in relationship needs to be based on a commitment to myself—to love, honor, obey, and cherish my own being. My commitment in relationship is to respect my own truth and do my best to honor the other person’s truth as well. To anyone I love, I promise to do the best I can to be honest, to share my feelings, to take responsibility for myself, to honor the connection I feel with that person, and to maintain that connection.” pg. 135
“Falling in love is actually a powerful experience of feeling the universe move through you. The other person has become a channel for you, a catalyst that triggers you to open up to the love, beauty, and passion within you. Your own channel opens wide, the universal energy comes through, and you have a blissful moment of ‘enlightenment’ very similar to the experiences some people have after long periods of meditation. This is the most thrilling and passionate experience in the world and, of course, we want to hold on to it. Unfortunately, we don’t realize that we are experiencing the universe within ourselves. We recognize that the other person has triggered this experience and we think it is him or her that is so wonderful! At the moment of falling in love, we are accurately perceiving the beauty of that person’s spirit, but we may not recognize it as a mirror of our own. We just know that we feel this great feeling when we’re with them. So, we often begin to give our power away to them, and start to put our source of happiness outside of ourselves.” pg. 137-138
“It is the energy of the universe moving through us that transforms, not just the specific things we do.” pg. 155
“Your ability to earn and spend money abundantly and wisely is based on your ability to be a channel for the universe. The stronger and more open your channel is, the more will flow through it. The more you are willing to trust yourself and take the risks to follow your inner guidance, the more likely you are to have all the money you need. The universe will pay you to be yourself and do what you really love!” pg. 164
“The new world is based on trust of the universe within us. We recognize that the creative intelligence and energy of the universe is the fundamental source of everything. Once we connect with this and surrender to it, everything is ours. Emptiness is filled from the inside. We realize that money is a reflection of the energy moving through our channel. The more we learn to operate in the world based on trust in our intuition, the stronger our channel will be and the more money we are likely to have. The money in our life is based on our ability to listen to our inner guidance and risk acting on it. When you let go of trying to control and you learn how to listen to the universe and act on it, money increasingly comes into your life. It flows in an easy, effortless, and joyful way because there is no sacrifice involved. You’re no longer attached to it. Instead, you can experience the joy of learning how to follow the energy of the universe. Money is an extra bonus in the process.” pg. 167
“I had an underlying program that said, ‘I can only have as much money as I need. It’s not okay to have more than I need.’” pg. 173
“Meditation: Begin to notice how you’re feeling. How do you feel emotionally? How does your body feel? Notice the energy in your body. What does it feel like? See yourself taking in more energy with each breath. You are energized and alive. Start to imagine this energy as money. As you open to your own energy, you open to abundance. Imagine having all the money you need to do the things that are most important to you, and to create a lifestyle that is in harmony with your being and with the earth.” pg. 178
“Our body is our primary creation, the vehicle we have chosen to express us in the physical world. By looking at our bodies, listening to them, and feeling them, we can read a great deal about our spiritual, mental, and emotional energy patterns. The body is our primary feedback mechanism that can show us what is and isn’t working about our way of thinking, expressing, and living.” pg. 181
“Back pain: a feeling that you have to support others, the world. A need to express and support your feelings; lower back pain is often suppressed sadness; upper back pain is often suppressed anger. I support all my feelings. I take care of myself. I express and trust my feelings. I trust others to take proper care of themselves. Menstrual cramps: not fully listening to and honoring your female aspect; a need to e quiet and go within. I honor my female completely and act on what she tells me to do. I relax, rest, and nurture myself regularly.” pg. 185-186
“Become increasingly willing to experience your own power and strength. This is the true healing.” pg. 187

Focus on abdomen (heart, solar plexus) asking "What do I need to know or do here?" immediately acting on it. If action does not empower, refocus on abdomen and ask for clarity.
Helpful prompts for this process: - If my intuitive feelings were always 100% correct, I would ... - If the feeling in the abdomen had a voice it would say ... - One way to support and appreciate this feeling is...
Book gives open-ended considerations for becoming guided by prayer and meditation in daily life.
I felt myself resisting the ideas presented in the book, as a result of which, I did not take away much at the end. As the author herself admitted, she is a big fan of visualizations and affirmations. While I am a believer of the efficacy of these practices, they feel like trying to cheat by taking the shortcut to me, as apposed to good old hinayana mediation as discovered by Buddha himself. If you are into new ageism, this is not a bad book though.
There comes a time for many when their self-help journey inevitably takes on a spiritual connotation given the extent to how deep their attempts to become the best version of themself go. Because of this, one's inherantly spiritual nature steps into the forefront and opens up a whole new world. A crossover if you will, between spirituality and self-help. Living in the Light: A Guide to Personal and Planetary Transformation is just that, but so much more. This is self-help for those who have realised the True Self, the bigger picture to life and reality. This is, Self-Help; for those that have realised the budding light within and wish to illuminate it to its full capacity. That is, to live in the Light.
I found myself resonating deeply with Shakti's insights (having already experienced and implemented a select few through my own realisations) but also gaining new profound insights that I have already taken on and have since seen reflections in my life personally and collectively (in regards to other people, places and the world at large).
Reading this came at the perfect time for me, the implications of what I've learnt are profound to say the least and have already brought my deeper on my journey. Although, for anyone who has undergone enlightenment experiences/awakenings, how can we possibly boil them down to a single word like profound? For those that understand, the direct experience is bar-none the only way to grasp this. For those that haven't, still read this. I'm sure it will assist in paving the way into comprehending the immense implications of what has been written. This is an absolute must-read for anyone who has 'awakened'. I am grateful for what I have read and can definitely see myself coming back to review its contents. Although, it's important to acknowledge that its contents are naturally reflected in everything you experience in your life. That's the point!
A great facet in conclusion of each chapter are the exercises and meditations provided that work to instil and integrate the insights. These have positively benefited me and I look forward to exploring and incorporating them further into my spiritual practice.
A great read into cultivating a 'bigger picture' means of composing oneself in this world, through alignment with ones Higher Self for the betterment of each of us as individuals and by implication, a collective. A definite step in the right direction
There were times when this book deeply resonated with me and inspired some gratifying journal entries. I learned of this book through reading the latest Gabby Bernstein book- it's listed as one of her inspirations in addition to Abraham Hicks. You can tell in reading this that Shakti is a vessel for some pretty deep information worth contemplating.
Takeaways: - Meditate upon a wise being living inside yourself (like the inverse of an inner-child meditation) to gain clarity/get answers - Acknowledge your shadow side, or it will grow inside of you unbeknownst to you- we're not all peaceful, loving, etc. all the time - reframe problems as messages, ask what information lies below it, and let it go. - remain an objective observer of your thoughts, but listen to the voice that tells you to rest, eat, etc. for optimal functioning - your intuition may not always guide you to do the 'right' thing, it will lead you to the lessons you need to learn while living in alignment - the rebel is no more free than the one oppressed and obeying an authoritarian since it reacts to authority by doing the reverse no matter what her true desire is - write down what you think you should do and what your inner rebel thinks you should do. take a moment to decide for yourself independent of the two extremes - the problem with commitments- they don't leave space for the inevitable changes w/in people. honor open communication and being authentic vs. true to commitments that may no longer fit - are you truer to your values, or the rules you establish for yourself? - falling in love is the universe moving through you - take yourself on a romantic date: dress up, eat what makes you feel divine and write love letters, indulge in a bubble bath, etc. to remember how accessible romance is regardless of relationship status - we are the stewards of money, it can never be ours, but we can use it to effect change - body-soul connection: colds as needing to get back into balance, acne as needing to assert more masculine energy, headache as needing to hear your own two conflicting views - 100th monkey phenomenon: a study where one monkey started washing a potato before eating it, then others who observed him did so, and then other cultures of monkeys began to even though they'd never physically seen it happen. it's an energetic resonance (Japan, 1952).
End of Week 71: Book 70 Completed: Living in the Light – Shakti Gawain #myread4change #read2lead #read4life #books #visualization
If you have the attitude that life is something that happens to you and that all you can do is make the best of it, living in the light will change that for good.
She explains “On this amazing human journey of ours, the strongest guiding force we have is right within us. We gain access to it through our intuitive sense, our “gut feelings” about what is right and true for us.”
The book claims to guide us improving our relations with our inner guidance, so that we can attuned to it, and make it serve us well.
Few 🔑 Points –
• In human evolution, it seems that as our rational capacity has evolved, we’ve grown increasingly fearful of the other aspects of our nature.
• The more you practice trusting and following your intuition, the more consistently you will feel that sense of “flow.” At these times you may find yourself right where you want to be at every moment.
• The body is our primary feedback mechanism that can show us what is and isn’t working about our way of thinking, expressing, and living.
• Once we’ve developed a symptom, it can recur if the behavior recurs. Our bodies serve us by accurately informing us of any blocked energy.
• Because the world truly is our mirror, as we change, it must change. You can see this easily in your personal life. As you develop the habit of trusting and taking care of yourself, you will gradually release your old patterns.
Few 📌 Quotes –
1. When we consistently suppress our intuitive knowingness, looking instead for approval from others, we give our personal power away.
2. Understanding that the world is our mirror can help us see our lives as a reflection of our beliefs, attitudes, and emotional patterns.
3. The interesting thing is that what we create within us is always mirrored outside of us. This is the law of the universe.
4. Being a creative channel works in two ways: energy flows either through you to others or from others to you.
I love this book. I too read the first edition over 25 years ago, when it was first published. Shakti Gawain inspired me then and still does today. I have lived, learned and transformed my life. It started with that first edition. One of my sisters gave me the book and I am forever grateful.
I highly recommend this book to a whole new generation who can benefit from her wisdom, insights and experiences. Ditto: this book is indeed a treasure of thoughts and meditations to focus our awareness on love, peace, and joyful living, no matter what issue, situation or obstacle crosses your life path. We can choose to see all life from a different point of view, a fresh perspective or new perception. There is no hidden meaning only the meaning we choose to place upon it - "It is What it is."
Sending Love and Light Saquina Akanni The Prosperity Doctor
This book helped me in a time of great change in my life. Actually, a five year change brought on by the loss of a family business and financial challenges. "Living in the Light" gave me insight from the first chapter, which stated, "We must learn a way of life that is very different from the way we approached things before. This may not be easy for us, and it will take time, commitment, and courage. Therefore, it’s very important to be compassionate with ourselves, to continually remind ourselves what a tremendous task we are undertaking. It will not be accomplished overnight; in fact, it is a lifelong process." I recommend this book to all who have endured major life shifts. It can help you live in the light.
I first read this book in 2006, after moving into my first apartment after college and truly living independently for the first time. It touched me. I share many of the beliefs that Gawain outlines in the book, and loved her stories and case studies surrounding them. I didn't finish back then, and had since abandoned most of my spiritual beliefs. I picked it back up in April and breezed through it. It spoke to me louder than it did before, likely because my life was in need of some spiritual balance. I'm so glad I read the final chapters. Gawain does an excellent job of suggesting how to apply the beliefs to everyday life.
This book is truly transformative. My mom gave it to me for my 25th birthday, and it sat on my bookshelf until recently. I'm so grateful to her for knowing that I would be ready for the lessons in this book eventually.
"Living in the Light" is practical and inspiring guide to changing your belief system by following your intuition and learning how to be true to yourself. I'm sure this is a book that I will be going back to time and again. Even if you're skeptical about self-help books or New Age philosophies, give this one a chance. It could change your life.
I read this book many years ago and thought it was not bad and after many years I got the 25th anniversary edition [Living in the Light - Follow your inner guidance to create a new life and a new world]. This gave me a new insight as I rereading it and also like a reminder to practice and follow. I’m glad I bought them and still keeping them as books that I’d like to reread when I feel like or need to. If you’re looking for something that helps you with your inner and spiritually, this is a book to start and an open mind and heart :)
This book started my quest into understanding the spiritual side of life. It's a wonderful beginners guide for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of what it means to lead a spiritual life, and how we can use spiritual principles to guide our everyday decisions. The principle of masculine and feminine divinity was somewhat life-altering for me.
I return to this book often when I need to ground myself. If you're looking for a little guide to carry with you throughout your days, this is my go-to suggestion!
Living in the Light was one of the first New-Age self help books I had read and for me really reaffirmed some spiritual beliefs of mine. As I had been exposed to a predominantly Christian terminology of things, this book was a refreshing insight into some of the beliefs with words which had more neutral/universal connotations.
I probably wouldn't recommend this book to someone who had read many of this style, but as it is short I'm sure one would find a few key points in here.
A very good self-knowledge book. If you are ready to be open to accepting a more spiritual approach to your life, what energies drive or block you, this looks like a good book to begin with. But you have to be ready for it because otherwise you'll just roll your eyes and say "oh, cut it with all this universe power b*s* already" and you will not internalize the important messages. Read and use it with an open mind and you will appreciate it.
Sadly not as good as Creators Visualization. In this book Shakti talks more about tapping into the spiritual you. I’ve come so far away from believing in all this spiritual stuff that some of it was not for me, however I really appreciated the section on how society has conditioned us to think that by being in a relationship we can find happiness and support and that unless we have these things inside of us, we cannot look to another person to provide this.
I've been recommended to read this book for years and I finally picked it up. So glad I did. I loved it. Part 2 was a better read, but the whole thing was good. A fun part is I found it at a used book store, and whoever had it before highlighted and wrote little notes throughout. I loved getting to know a stranger, that I'll never meet. So I took a pencil to each page and underlined and added my own scribbles. I'll definitely be coming back to this book randomly. Great read!
The exercises for some chapters were helpful but most of the information seemed very narrow visioned from a place of privilege and left out. It’s an okay read but nothing hit close to home where I’d refer back to it for classes or personal growth.
