WORD OF ADVICE: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS SERIES, AND WANT TO READ IT, DON'T READ THIS BEFORE YOU READ THE FIRST BOOK! SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST BOOK!! READ THE FIRST BOOK BEFORE READING THIS REVIEW!!

I adored this book💕💕💕

The plot is a lot more exciting!! I like it better than the first book😍😍😍

My favorite character is definitely Juliet!

JULIET FOX

In the first book, she was a villain. Long, blond, shiny, glossy, blah blah hair. And red, full, "lipsticked" lips.

I didn't like her much.

Then, abruptly, her hair — the long, blond, shiny, glossy, blah blah hair — WAS CUT!

dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnn

It was NOT nice.

She looked like Rapunzel!

Ugh! Have I mentioned how much I hate Rapunzel's haircut? It's horrible! And you realize, it will be like that FOREVER. Rapunzel's cut hair WON'T GROW!!!!!!!!

However, Jules is lucky! Her hair grows a little and she is so CUTE! Much better than being supposedly "gorgeous".

I love her.

I love her relationship with Scrap. Those two are so cute together.

Originally, and USUALLY, Scrap should get together with Yoshi. It's a very typical trope, yeah?

But honestly?

Friends-to-friends while strangers/enemies-to-lovers is actually pretty common, too....

ANYWAY!

I love how Scrap calls Juliet "Jules"!! It's adorable!!

There are a couple of odd plot twists, though...seriously staring stuff! But I can usually overlook those stuff...😑

For example! Scrap is TEN. And he's dating?! Wow.

But whatever! [insert shrug]

I seriously love the ending so much, it feel so DEEP!!!

Recommended to old people who consider themselves "mature." *snicker*

This series has been so much fun to share with the kids. The world Marcus Emerson created is fun, creative, and hilarious. The story is easy enough for my 7 year old to follow, but also engaging for my almost 11 year old, and it's filled with some jokes and lines the parents can appreciate. We are hoping there will be more to come. We've grown attached to Bryce, Clinton, Yoshi, and Jules and the gang. Can't wait for more adventures!

Emerson, Marcus Bad guy is a Two-Word Word (Recess Warriors#2), 150 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL. Roaring Brook (Holtzbrinck), 2017. $13. Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: G.

A play on the imaginary games of recess, readers continue the adventure with Bryce, Yoshi, Scrap, Juliet, and Clinton. This time they must face off with the super villain Simon –who has enthralled the other students into doing anything that he says. Will Bryce and Juliet be able to save the day in a big way? Featuring incredible graphic novel illustrations.

This book features some of the best graphic novel illustrations that I have ever seen. The story is creative, funny, and inventive. That being said, I didn’t enjoy reading it –why? It borders right on the line between real and pretend. Younger readers won’t get the distinction and find the plethora of characters very confusing. Older reader will just be upset that the whole story is probably maybe just pretend, while they are used to reading some pretty amazing adventures in other graphic novels that are less questionable.

Recess Warriors 2: Bad Guy Is a Two-Word Word by Marcus Emerson is even more fun than the first one!
I was concerned about sequel rot, but thankfully the humor and surprise character development has improved.

I love how serious the book takes itself, and Clinton and Bryce's strained friendship is my favorite part.

It's also nice how Yoshi and Jules subverted the "girls can't get along" trope.

In addition, Recess Warriors has some nice foreshadowing. Little things you wouldn't expect are actually important. *wink*

Overall:
Please read this and Marcus Emerson please write more! All of my sentiments from the review of the first book still stand."https://wordswithdestiny.wordpress.co..."

SN: Albert was awesome and the kiddy romances were too!

While this isn't my cup of tea, it will certainly be a hit with the younger set, around fourth or fifth grade. Anyone who was ever young will recall the various games and battles played out on the playground during recess, and this graphic novel, the second in a series, follows a group of youngsters as they battle evil forces as well their own good and bad intentions and try to settle old scores. There are relationship issues, lite romance, and interesting characters, but I think you might need to still be young to enjoy the book thoroughly. The author brings to life each of the characters and spells out their motivations and drama while also providing funny scenes that play to the funny bone of the intended audience, especially the food fight scenes and the Mintos-fueled explosion scene. I did wonder where all the teachers and supervisors were when all this was going on. One of the elements of the book that I liked in particular was the thumbnail sketches introducing various characters.

Although this is the first Recess Warriors I have read, I already know I am completely in love! I need to get Vol. 1 very soon!
This graphic novel is packed with gorgeous panels, action, and a cool story plot!
Kids at recess have an overactive imagination and come up with a very intense game of vampires, werewolves, and other crazy characters to defeat during recess. They all have their own unique character names that the transform into. I love how the author introduces each character throughout the novel with their own introduction page. I can hear the epic dramatic rock music as each character is introduced. So much fun! Can't wait to read more.

Book 2 in the series and definitely makes more sense if you have read the first one already, even though there is a synopsis in the front to help out.
Someone is releasing werewolves and vampires and other things in an attempt to take over recess. The superheroes are trying to defeat them but are having difficulties because of petty rivalries and jealousies between themselves.
Lots of color, action, and grade school humor. While I wasn't very entertained, I can see this appealing to grades 3-6 quite highly.

It's a new day and a new period of recess. Bryce and Juliet find themselves in a battle against a super villain who wants to rule the entire playground. Will they be able to reunite the team of recess warriors and defeat the villain and call end game before the bell rings ? Several new characters are introduced into the story line.

I enjoyed this second book even more than the first! To the people saying only kids would like this series, they are wrong. I'm 27 and laughed at a lot of jokes (there was even a reference to CSI- Miami). This series is like the tv shows Recess and Kids Next Door combined.

I would love a third installment!

I feel like the first one was better and faster to get through? Or maybe that's just me. Quick and enjoyable but honestly not super memorable.

I gave this a low rating, but it's not really for me, so please take it with a gain of salt.
Welcome to recess without classes or going home to parents, and every day is an epic adventure stylized like different movie genres. There's a handful of kids we follow throughout vampire take over battles, battles against mad scientists, ninja battles, time travel to the recess of a Western, and wacky super hero capers to save the day. It's purposefully nonsensical, and chooses not to follow rules of it's own world. I think it'd be a good read for elementary school aged kids who like goofy comedy.
