Holiday House Swap

Rate this book
Reclusive writer Noah Kinley is facing a how to confess to the world he’s really the author of a best-selling romance series. For years, his friend Julie has been the face of his brand, but she wants her life back now. Fast running out of ideas for his popular series, Noah wants to break out into other genres. Not that he’s writing much of anything at the moment anyway, thanks to paralyzing writer’s block. With his publisher breathing down his neck for the next installment, he hopes a change of scene will get his writer’s juices flowing again. Desperate enough to try anything, during the holidays Noah swaps his isolated cabin in the woods for a gentrified horse farm.

USAF Major Connor Harrison has chosen forced retirement over facing charges for an unauthorized mission to rescue a buddy from behind enemy lines. No one expects him home for the holidays, and he certainly didn’t anticipate finding a stranger in his house, much less Noah Kinley with his acid tongue and a wry sense of humor that pierces all of Connor’s defenses.

Both men need to figure out what the next chapter in their lives will be—and whether it will include each other.

I think I'm going to be in the minority with this one. It's got good bones, but just didn't ultimately resonate with me. I felt like there wasn't any real build up of feelings or passion, so the relationship kind of cropped up out of nothing, but maybe that comes more from it being a single POV. I would have liked to have gotten Connor's POV too.

Unfortunately, I only got to see it from Noah's side, and he was a bit of a busy body know-it-all who, I felt, stuck his nose into Connor's business without 1. being asked, or 2. having any place to do it. I mean, he rolls up into this guy's house and within days is telling him what he should do with his life acting like he knows better than anyone else, including Connor.

It just rubbed me the wrong way. Basically, the whole story did. But, like I said before, I will probably find myself in the minority with that opinion.

If you like low angst holiday novels with strongly opinionated main characters, some passionate sexy times, and a whirlwind romance - you should check it out for yourself.

"Holiday House Swap" starts out with a "meet cute" between the two MCs ... well, if you count desert camo-clad Connor (and his 9mm) surprising Noah in a bubble bath as he belts out "The Twelve Days of Christmas" whilst partaking of a cheese plate with a nice merlot. Turns out Connor is unaware his brother swapped out his palatial estate for 3 weeks over the holidays to Noah, a reclusive writer with a deadline, a secret and a bad case of writer's block. Connor also struggles with his abrupt retirement from the Air Force and wonders how he will maintain the estate / horse farm he inherited from his father.

While I like the premise of this story, I have some issues as well. For a 200 page book, "Holiday House Swap" is packed with a ton of plot ... ... whew! I felt the pace of the book suffered with so many elements to incorporate into the story. There is sexual sizzle between the two men (and I love Connor's tip to Noah about learning to ride)
It’s a more subtle movement. Like rocking your pelvis forward and up out of the saddle at the same time. If you were a student, I’d say think of belly dancing. But seriously, roll your hips like you’re fucking.”
but because we get Noah's POV throughout, there is little insight into Connor, who plays everything very close to the vest.

I gave this book 3.25 stars, liking the plot overall and the ending (which ties up a huge amount of issues and gives Noah and Connor a good start on a HEA), but felt the pacing a tad slow and chemistry a bit flat. FYI - I really enjoyed Sarah Madison's The Boys of Summer and look forward to reading more of her work.

Holiday House Swap was a nice holiday read. Both Noah and Connor are at a crossroads in their lives when they meet each other. What turns out to be a fluke that they meet, soon turns into something more for both of them.

This was a very likable book. Both Noah and Conner are good characters. They had chemistry from the beginning even if they didn’t act on it right away, which just let the story build up more. I liked how they handled their crossroads. Once they decided what they were going to do they went for it, and they did it together. The ending wrapped up their story nicely. This was my first book I’ve read by Sarah Madison, but I’ll definitely be reading more books by her in the future! ~ Leah, 4 stars

Okay, now this? Absolutely adorable, fun and just a great story to make you smile-doesn't matter if you're reading it as a holiday romance or at any time of the year. I loved the characters, I thought this was a solid, strong story, and the bit of deception that was going on-well, I liked how it was all resolved.

On a scale of one to ten for meet-cute scenes, Noah and Connor's scene gets a big 10 from me. It really sets the atmosphere for the story quite well, and I found myself smiling a large part of the time while reading this book-with the biggest smile starting in that first meeting scene. Each with their own issues to work through, each with their own plans...and both falling for each other-this equals a winning combination for me, particularly with these characters. Oh, and just because I feel like teasing...oh my goodness, that skinny-dipping pool scene (um, sure Connor, go right ahead and check that out since you haven't seen it before, as readers we're all sitting here curious too)...sorry, I just couldn't resist that tease.

I thought Noah was being sweet-if a little pushy-in trying to help Connor out, but honestly to me it showed how much Noah cared and how invested he already was. And Connor-I love how supportive he was of Noah once he found out the teeny tiny secret he was hiding. Noah was so sweet, and the way he says what he thinks with pretty much no filter is refreshing...particularly when he's sick and doesn't realize he's voicing his thoughts out loud!

I'm adding this one to my yearly holiday re-read list, I thought it was a wonderful story and it was a 4.5-star read for me. I do strongly recommend Holiday House Swap to any M/M romance fan, particularly if you're looking for holiday romance. This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and M/M sexual content. And that just brings me right back to that pool scene. Sorry, I'm teasing again. Okay, not sorry ;-)

I really loved the concept of this story. House swapping! I mean, it partially terrifies me. I don’t like people in my space but in this instance it made for a good story!

Noah is a writer who is suffering from the dreaded writers block. He swaps houses with a guy and his family. They take his cabin he gets their mansion. So far so good! Now the way Noah finds out he’s not alone in the house had me laughing hysterically! You’ll see.

Now, Noah is not just any writer. He’s a New York Times Best Selling Author! He writes romance mysteries that do amazingly well. The issue? His friend, who’s a girl, is the face of his work. Yes, it’s as much of a mess as you’d think.
Connor is the owner of the mansion and he’s home after a forced retirement form the USAF. You’d think they would be like oil and water but Noah and Connor are a perfect pair. They are the perfect balance the other needs.

I can go on and on about story line, plot, all that but then I’d give away the story and there would be no point in reading it. I loved Noah, minus his indiscretions with his lying to his fans. Yes, later I understood it and it does make sense. Wonderful personality. And for someone who starts off reclusive he actually didn’t show any of that. I read the blurb as a man who never left his home for awhile, didn’t interact with people all that. When his friend tries to get him to come to Paris to help with the award for his book his excuses follow along the lines of an introverted author who’s reclusive, and not good with people. But the second he house swaps we see an outgoing guy. Who’s great with people and throwing parties. So, I’m not sure what exactly happened or was he really reclusive at all? I chuck it up to Connor bringing something out of him.

His bisexuality comes up often and he explains it well even if there’s so many people in his life that don’t get it. Connor’s jealousy, his parents thinking. But each time Noah stood his ground and I commend his entire argument with his bisexuality. Well written.

I wanted to see Christmas morning with Noah and Connor and I wanted more interaction with his sister but we didn’t see that. It’s okay because the ending of the book made it worth the holiday absence!

I liked this holiday read and found it to be a lot about discovery, acceptance, and love.

I’m lucky, in that I’m a member of the same crit group as Sarah Madison, so I get to read these long before everyone else. I don’t think there’s a book of hers I haven’t loved as she wrote it, polished it, published it. Holiday House Swap is no exception.

What I’ve noticed most about Sarah’s work is the characters she creates. Sarah doesn’t do easy characters. She depicts people who have been challenged and who are challenging, who can be prickly and difficult, who have been tested and hurt in the testing. She writes people who are, at some level, damaged by life and whose defences, consequently, can often be dense and almost impenetrable. And then she pulls them out from behind their walls and makes them find someone who can keep them there, someone who will see beyond the hurt, the irascible temper, the snark and sarcasm and who will then love what they see.

Holiday House Swap delivers two of those difficult-to-like, easier-to-love characters in spades. It’s a topical premise in these days of AirBnB alternative type holidays (vacations, to my transatlantic readers!). Noah Kinley, a writer who hides behind a pseudonym to write romantic thrillers and behind snippy sarcasm to hide from life, takes a house swap for Christmas. Only the house he’s moved to isn’t quite as devoid of inhabitants as he expects, when its real owner turns up. Connor Harrison is reeling from what’s happened on his last deployment and considering his future, making him as prickly and ill-at-ease with life as Noah is.

I think you’ll love the way Sarah’s story unfolds, as Noah and Connor learn to trust each other and learn, too, that if they’re ever to have any contentment and happiness in life, it’s with each other. As an extra plus, Sarah weaves into the story her boundless love for and knowledge of horses, to add the ring of authenticity and perfect world-building that infuse the narrative.

It’s a feel good story. It’s a lovely, warm Christmassy story. It’s a horses and snow and eggnog and party time story. It’s a “why are you reading this and not at an ebook store near you buying this?” story. You’ll love it, I guarantee.

Book: Holiday House Swap
Author: Sarah Madison
Publisher: Sarah Madison
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rated: Mature M/M

One of my favorite go to authors, Sarah Madison has been a go to since reading her fabulous novel The Boys of Summer. If you haven’t read it…..it is Epic…..But I digress, today I have just finished Holiday House Swap as I breeze thru as many Christmas stories as I can to tell you about.

Sarah has written a charming, entertaining story of a closeted author. As a reviewer for a book guild, I have authors who I will go to my grave knowing their secrets of their names that do not represent who you would believe them to be. They were told back in the day, there could not be female writing certain types of books or male writing love stories. Publishing houses dictated this, and this is what Ms Madison has used to write this story.

Reclusive writer Noah Kinley has decided to do something different in his life. He has writers block, not a good thing for an author with an award winning series, with his readers clamoring for the next !!! He has seen these ads for House Swap and is leaving his hidden cabin in the woods to travel to a small horse farm to see if he can shake a story out of his blocked brain. He has sent his best friend Julie off to be the Voice of his series, as she has pretended unhappily for years to be the Face of his series and go to places to speak and accept his awards.

So see what happens when a very socially inexperienced handsome but nerdy author comes face to face with USAF Major Connor Harrison the actual owner of the house. Connor has returned home to the house he inherited from his father, to find his brother swapped it, not realizing Connor would be home.

Sarah this story was amazing. I cannot say enough about it, don’t want to give spoilers, just want to say it comes out December 21 and I would say EVERYONE Buy It!!!

This was my first read by Sarah Madison. I didn't dislike it. I'm always hesitant to try new authors, but I like Holiday reads so I was at an impasse of sorts. Holiday House Swap is exactly what it sounds like but have two people falling in love. Noah seems to be a reclusive author who lives in Maine to write his New York Times Best Selling Series. I say recluse, because he's anything but timid and shy. If anything, he's vocal, adamant and has no problem voicing his opinions on things, or trying to come up with a conclusion of sorts. Connor Harrison is fresh off the plane that is, a retired Air Force Pilot coming home to a stranger in his Jacuzzi.

It had plenty of funny moments to me, and both guys initially got to know one another better. The relationship did take a while to progress we can see them sizing each other up. I didn't expect this Noah. I think I'm blown away by the confident Noah that we seen. In my head the confidence was going to come all from Connor. Not to say it wasn't welcomed. It wasn't the case, it was more of Connor being unsure of himself based on previous experiences. I did like that the plot focused on them apart and different aspects of their life then the passion level. I would have liked to see what became of Connor's land and such. It was such a focal point of the story and we never got closure. I didn't really like that.

All in all it was an okay book, but it wasn't anything spectacular to me. It was very low steam, and it's fine when we have something else to invest in. The problem was that as soon as we get invested it's an epilogue and then over. Umm no ma'am. I want to see some progress together. Where do they live? We know, but I want to see some things happen. We've had all this buildup and then an instant later a proposal??? I think not folks. If you like low steam, nicely told stories, with okay guys then this is right up your alley folks!!!

Connor and Noah's first meeting was a hoot, but fortunately they managed to co-exist without any bloodshed. I loved the banter between the main characters, and enjoyed them brainstorming various ideas for Noah's new book series. In fact, I'd like to read a series like that, or watch a TV show of it, too.

I really liked this story of the two guys growing closer and hoping for something to last longer than the holidays. As always with Sarah Madison, a great happy ending which left me with the contented sigh of pleasure.

I like the setting -- I like the practically low-steam level of this book...

On personal notes:

Noah seems to be a little too busy-body towards someone he meets in mere days, but it doesn't crank up my annoyance level. What I don't 100% like with the set-up is even with Noah being a successful man writing romance, he must prove himself that he can write sci-fi. Why is that? Why make the male author character ends up writing sci-fi when he finally decides to use his own name? Why can't he stick to writing romance?

I feel like there are issues that are barely scratched on the surface (like Connor's reluctance of being kissed, or his jealousy towards the women in Noah's life, since Noah is bisexual). The ending feels rushed because I don't exactly felt the "love" before

AND!! I get thrown off very early when I encounter the word "solider" multiple times when it's supposed to be SOLDIER. For a fanfic, I might be more forgiving. For a published book, from a known publisher, it pissed me off. One of my pet peeves.

3.5 stars - I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This is a fun holiday romance. With nods to the film The Holiday, a novelist trades his rural cottage for a glamorous horse farm for the holidays. In a wonderful first scene, he is quickly surprised by the homeowner’s unscheduled return from Afghanistan.

The problems surrounding both of these men are enough for a full series of books and there is probably a little bit too much going on in a relatively short novel. Noah is a best selling novelist who publishes his books in his female best friend’s name. He is recovering from a difficult break up and struggling with writer’s block. Similarly, Connor has been discharged from the air force in difficult circumstances. He is struggling to manage his inheritance and in need of a clear direction for his future. With so many issues to work through, this story was a bit too convoluted for me.

The romantic connection between Connor and Noah develops in bursts and jolts. From an initial uneasy truce between housemates to a sudden sex scene to almost instant couple status, I didn’t feel that Connor and Noah’s romance progressed naturally. The result is a lack of the sexual tension that usually pulls a romance together and gets me invested as a reader.

This is told from Noah’s perspective. I enjoyed Noah’s voice, but I wanted to know more about Connor who is probably the more interesting of the two characters. As it is, Connor remains elusive for much of the story. Overall, I enjoyed this story but I never completely connected with the character or their romance.

3.5, rounded up, because I liked this book about two flawed characters.

Noah Kinley is the author of romantic suspense novels featuring a tough heroine. Since, and this is a delightful tongue-in-cheek, romantic suspense novels featuring a heroine are usually written by female authors, Noah has been using the name of his best friend, Julie Velazquez, as his pen name. Julie has also been attending conventions and other events for Noah, and her face is on the back cover. But Julie is now pressuring Noah to come out - to show his own face and claim these book as his. She wants her life back, as she has offers to become a singer, something she's always wanted, something she's very good at, and something she's put on the back burner so far to help Noah out.

On top of this, Noah is experiencing writer's block, and decides that perhaps he needs a change of scenery - instead of being all alone in his secluded cabin in the woods, he has arranged for a house swap with a family from a grand estate/horse farm, to get the creative juices flowing again. While Julie is in Paris accepting an award for the latest book.

The house is every bit as grand as Noah expected from the photos, but unfortunately, it's not as empty as expected, when Connor Harrison, retired USAF Major, bursts in on Noah taking a bath and singing a holiday tune, gun drawn to catch the suspected intruder. Though how someone as smart as a USAF Major thought that an intruder would be taking a bath is somewhat beyond me.

Still, it's a fabulous way for the two men to meet. Turns out that the previous occupant of the home, the one with whom Noah arranged the swap, isn't the actual owner, but the brother of the owner - one Connor Harrison.

Both main characters have flaws, and neither is perfect. Both have some serious issues, what with Connor being forced into retirement due to sort of going against orders by rescuing a buddy from behind enemy lines and now being at a loss as to what to do next, and Noah being a neurotic author who wants to retire his pen name persona, but doesn't know how and then spending most of the book procrastinating on the author thing and instead trying to fix Connor's problem with how to keep the farm because money is tight.

Clearly, they both have enough on their plate, but they also feel an immediate attraction that just isn't going to go away, and while they figure out how to proceed with the next steps in their lives, they also get closer and closer.

Noah's dry wit made for quite a few giggles - I so do appreciate snark in the books I read - and he was a mostly likable character. Connor was a bit of an enigma at first, since we only see him through Noah's eyes, but I liked him as well. He broods a bit, which was understandable given his situation. I would have liked to get his perspective as well instead of just finding out what makes him tick from Noah's POV.

This is a romance, and thus has a lovely HEA, as expected. However, my primary enjoyment of this book came from following the characters on their journey to this HEA, one I recommend you follow too by reading this book.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Noah leaves his isolated cabin, and swaps a house for the Christmas period, in an effort to jump start his writer's block and give him the necessary push to decide what to do about using his friend as the face of his pen name. A mix up means the house is not empty, and Connor is home for good after facing an agonizing choice: retire on full pension, or face a court marshall, for an unauthorised mission to rescue a team member. Can Noah and Connor get on enough to share the massive house??

I'm not usually one for Christmas stories. When this was sent to me to ask did I want to read it, it came without a title, so I had no idea it would be a Christmas story but this one is just based around that time; there isn't much emphasis on the Christmas bit and I rather enjoyed it!

Noah has a sharp tongue and a witty mind, that sometimes moves at rocket speed and I struggled to keep up. Not a bad thing, though. Just meant I had to slow down me skim reading! I loved how his mind worked, not just for himself, but for Connor too, and how Noah pulled everyone from around Connor together, to make Connor see just what he really needed to do to keep the house and the horses.

I loved how Noah was fully aware of his friend, Julie and her predicament, being the name and face of Noah's series. Knowing he needs to release Julie is part of his reason for leaving the cabin in the first place.

BUT!!

I can't say what I thought of Connor, because its all Noah. Yes I KNOW I say it often enough to annoy even myself but I really did need Connor to have a say. I needed to know what was going through his mind when he mounted that rescue mission. When he came face to face with the rescuee (is that a word??) When he decided to make some sort of go of it with Noah.

Had we had Connor too, I have no doubt that this would have been a five star read. But we didn't, so...

4 stars

*Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie by the author/publisher for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion, a review was not a requirement.*

Noah Kinley is a best-selling romance author, except very few people know that. When trying to become a writer, he didn't get much interest as an average looking man, so he decided to write under his best friend's name and use her as his face to the public except now she wants out. Noah's peaceful, hermit life is no longer working for his muse so he finds a holiday house swap on the internet and decides it's exactly what he needs to get rid of his writer's block and to figure out how to make it known that he's the real author of the series, without losing all his fans. Once he gets to the grand house he's going to be staying in, he's thrilled with all the amenities; that is until he finds out that the house owner is not the one he swapped homes with. Connor Harrison comes home from his forced retirement from the Air Force to find a stranger in him home.

This story is told from Noah's POV, so I always feel like I don't know the other MC as well because we just get Noah's thoughts.

I'm not going to ruin any surprises for you, but the introduction of the two MC's was hilarious, awkward and not the norm! I loved it!! Both MC's had a full plate to deal with, and regardless of their plans could not leave the other one alone. Noah was a procrastinator and found many other things to do in trying to "fix" Connor's life to avoid fixing his own issues. He was nosy, but very insightful and able to offer different points of view to Connor for his family situations. Though this relationship happened quickly, it didn't feel like an instalove story.

This was a great holiday read with humor, love, a hot skinny dipping scene, interesting instructions on horseback riding, and a HEA with little angst. You definitely want to check this one!!

4.5 stars!!

Holiday House Swap is the first book I've read by Sarah Madison, and this will not be the last story I read by her. It was sweet and emotional with a touch of romance, which was blended together into a great holiday story.

Noah is an author that decides to participate in a house swap with a family for a change of scenery. He has writers block and nothing is helping. What he didn't expect was to be in the jacuzzi and have a gun pulled on him while being accused of being a burglar by Connor. After that little misunderstanding, things slowly begin developing between them, but Noah is hiding a secret that could change everything.

Connor wasn't supposed to be home for the holidays, but a change of plans brought him to his house only to find a stranger in the bathtub. Turns out his brother, without telling him, traded his house for a cabin in the woods for three weeks. Now Connor has to deal with the company of a stranger. It might not be so bad though since there is an undercurrent of attraction between them. Can he get over his own hang ups in order to find a way to be with Noah?

This story was wonderful. Many times when writing the military into a story, they are dealing with PTSD, and while Connor does experience some of that, this book also talks about some of the ugly side of things as well as the bond you have with others in your unit. Not only that, things developed naturally between the characters. There was more to them than met the eye, and I love characters like that. They seem more real. On top of that, I liked how the bedroom scenes started out slightly awkward. Before Connor and Noah realized it, they were in the middle of something. 4.5 stars and I recommend everyone read it today if you like M/M!

4.5 stars- Low drama, good characters, and great dialogue

Holiday House Swap was an enjoyable read that had all the components of a heartwarming romance. The main characters were strong, successful, and likable, who also showed vulnerabilities. I liked how the author highlighted their hobbies and interests in the story, it developed the characters and made them personable. I really enjoyed how Connor and Noah interacted. There was a push and pull to their relationship, but the chemistry as friends and lovers came through. Considering the romance was pretty fast, this was important and made their partnership believable. There was definitely heat between the characters as well; and though the sexy moments weren't prolific, I also wasn't left wanting. The dialogue was fantastic and easily my favorite aspect of the book. There was some banter and funny moments, but overall it flowed naturally and made the book a fun, easy read. I had just finished a suspenseful read, so Holiday House Swap made the perfect palate cleanser. There wasn't a lot of angst, the conflicts were confronted and resolved fairly quickly. The ending was done well, all subplots were resolved and the couple had a satisfying HEA. While the timeline was set around Christmas, I'm not sure it should be considered exclusively a "holiday romance" as this wasn't the focus. All in all, I found this to be a sweet, down-to-earth romance. It wasn't toothache inducing sweetness with too perfect characters, but rather it left a warm feeling in my heart and a smile on my lips. I'll definitely read more from Sarah Madison.

Noah and Connor will keep your hearts warm....

This is my first time read book by Sarah Madison and I must say it most likely will not be my last. The way in which she tells the story of her characters draws the reader in and keeps them there until the very end. Noah and Connor's story will warm your heart, as you witness two men who are at the crossroads of their lives, make decisions that will lead them on the path to future happiness.

This book is told from Noah's POV, but I would have loved to have seen Connor's POV thrown in there too every now and then. This would have enabled the reader to see how both men were thinking and have an even more in depth look at their relationship. Although this was not a distraction in itself from the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed Noah and Connor's story. It wasn't one where, the two main characters instantly fell in love with each other, which made their story all the more special. Yes, there was chemistry between the two men from the minute they first met, but the fact that this chemistry took time to turn into something more was what made this story special. Both men needed to realise that they had to change their lives and learn to accept that the change would be for the best.

Definitely a wonderful book to read, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice easy read that will have you smiling all day.

FOUR STARS for this Swap.

MY REVIEW
This book is a nice holiday read and i found both the main characters very likeable men. Both Connor and Noah seem to be at a point in their lives when things could go up or down, they are at a crossroads so to speak. In meeting each other put them on the path for the better.
I loved how they met, Noah in the bath exposed and Connor all up in arms. the chemistry was always there right from the beginning, but Noah and Connor took there time on acting on the attraction they had for each other.
This book is told from only Noah's POV but i would have love to have had Connor's POV too, to really get inside his head but thats just me im greedy.
The ending really finished this story off well for me i couldnt have asked for better.
Over all a good m/m romance.

I adored this story from Sarah Madison.

Connor and Noah are quiet a pair and meet in the most entertaining way, when Connor pulls his service weapon on Noah who is just tying to relax in the jacuzzi. In this stranger's house.

Noah ends up getting more then he signed up for with his bright idea to swap houses with another family for a few weeks.

The banter between the two characters was enjoyable. The chemistry and steam? Off the charts. I appreciated the rawness as well as the tenderness of the different scenes. Connor and Noah are well developed and easy to love characters.

HOLIDAY HOUSE SWAP
by Sarah Madison

Holiday house swap is a really fun read full of ups and downs that have you turning the pages until you hit the end of the book. You really can connect with Noah and Connor they make you feel the frustration yet confidence for themselves and for the changes they will need to make. Its really a fun holiday read that lets you see that life can be messy but if you have faith and believe in yourself you really can change your life for the better you just have to take the first step no matter how hard it is.

Feel good, comfy holiday story without preaching. I liked it because it felt like reading John Sheppard/Rodney McKay romance, but in AU setting and with their characteristics watered down. Anyway, the romance developed pretty quickly, but I didn't feel the insta-lust/insta-love vibe (or maybe I was biased) and I even read the sex scenes!

Home way for the holidays

A funny house swap gone wrong story, this worked nicely as a Christmas romance (especially with the climax at the Christmas party). Noah has done this house swap to clear his weiters block, while Connor returns from the Air Force to find his brother has swapped his house. With neither having somewhere else to go the two end of spending time together which sparks into something more.

Connor remains a bit quieter and closed off through the book. It felt a bit of a jump at the end to him being more open despite that being the progression. It becomes clear over time that despite the disdain of his father and their turbulent relationship it was actually something that happened overseas that keeps Connor so closed off. Noah is determined to find out what keeps him closed off but remains careful with his prodding so as to not scare Connor off. This careful persistent interest is what allows Connor to slowly feel comfortable enough to open up.

Noah is there for writer's block but it turns out that is actually from very personal reasons. The more you learn about him the more it becomes clear that Noah's difficulty and reservations about the story stem from a change coming that terrifies him. He is lacking in self confidence despite the success he has had and his relationships have not helped with that. It takes his own time and realizations about thattomget past the blocks he has put in place.

This was a sweet story that works nicely with the Christmas spirit. It had a private feel without closing the characters off from the world while getting these two men past their problems. A sweet read with a lovely ending.

Sometimes figuring out what to do next with your life isn’t obvious and can even be challenging and complicated – as both main characters in ‘Holiday House Swap’ are finding out. Noah is a reclusive writer who has writer’s block and needs new inspiration, and he figures a new environment may do the trick, so he agrees to a house swap over the holidays. Connor has just been given the “option” of retiring from the Air Force after twenty years rather than face disciplinary action for rescuing a buddy – and the last thing he expects is to find a total stranger in the house his brother had been taking care of and, apparently, felt free to swap with Noah’s remote home. Other than the setting is around Christmastime, the story doesn’t focus on the holiday as much as it does on Noah and Connor’s changes and growth once they meet and begin to interact.

Holiday House Swap by Sarah Madison is a contemporary romance with a holiday theme. Noah Kinley is an author who must “come out” as the face of his books, so he rents a house for the holidays in hopes of inspiring his muse. He never planned to run into the house’s owner, Major Connor Harrison, who unexpectedly retired from the Air Force just in time for the holidays.

Holiday House Swap is the perfect holiday romance. It’s been a long time since I’ve fallen for both heroes as quickly and completely as I did with Connor and Noah. Their friendship turned romance developed so naturally, I didn’t have to suspend my disbelief at all. Their relationship felt comfortable – once the initial awkwardness faded, of course.

In Holiday House Swap, Sarah Madison tells the delightful story of two men coming together when they need each other the most. This one is not to be missed!

Sarah Madison is a new to me author, and when I read this blurb I thought the plot sounded quirky and fun. Noah, a reclusive author is suffering from a bit of writer’s block…so in somethong out of the norm for him, he agree’s to a holidy house swap with someone he has never met.

Unbeknownst to the ACTUAL owner of the house he is staying at, that is.

Connor has arrived home to a surprise vistor in the form of Noah. Connor has “retired” from the military nad is home to figure out what the next step in his life is. Noah see’s him as a sexy distraction, and also, a friend. These two…in a short amount of time, become fast friends, lover’s and partner’s.

All in all, I liked this book. It was a solid 4 stars for me. I would have loved dual POV’s just to get a tad bit from Connor’s POV, but honestly, Noah was all kinds of cute, sweet and quirky that it wasn’t necessarily needed.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

I enjoyed the way in which Sarah Madison develops both Connor and Noah’s characters, using their personal situations. Connor has been left the house by his late father, but is unable to keep it because of the cost. He is planning to sell the property and adjoining stables, which were his mother’s pride and joy, to a developer. Madison uses her knowledge about horses to add an extra depth and believability to this part of the story and a different side of Connor is revealed when he is around the horses. He is commanding, yet gentle, and he shares his love for riding with Noah.

Connor provides a distraction for Noah from the predicament he is in about whether to reveal his identity as an author and his doubts about whether to begin writing speculative fiction. It is not just Connor’s sexiness and the mutual attraction, which Madison strengthens through their shared love of superheroes and Star Wars, but we also recognize that Noah genuinely cares about Connor and the future of his property.
