That was a really good biography. I was actually very hooked, and I stayed up pretty late reading it. I don't really know anything about Queen Victoria, and I didn't plan on knowing much about her, but I saw this at the library, and I just got it randomly. And I'm really glad that I got it. It has a gorgeous design, both inside and out, and the pictures are so lush and bright, and I felt like they really added to the story, and helped put the full picture in my mind. The whole package of the book was simply stunning, and I kinda really want to buy it now.
I think this book gave a pretty good overview on Queen Victoria's life, and I learned a whole lot about her. It focused on the things that were actually important, and other gossip stuff. ;) I was quite confused at some points, especially explaining, how Queen Victoria became queen, and all her children and grandchildren, because first of all, that's a lot of people, and second of all, I can't really remember people's names unless they come with a face. I link faces with people, so I really just couldn't remember who was who, which did get annoying at times, but for the most part, since the book centered around Queen Victoria, I did fine.
It was kind of biased, especially towards the people Queen Victoria didn't like, and I think that there could've been less bias, but it's also about Queen Victoria, and how she felt about those people, so it was kind of understandable, but it still irked me a bit.
I really adored this book, and I'm really glad I read it. It was actually quite interesting, and had a really good time reading it. This is my first Catherine Reef book, and it left a very good impression on me. She clearly put a lot of work into this one, and I can't wait to read about her other biographies!
