Well I’m done and I’m so glad because it needed to be over.

description

This is one of those instances that you wonder if the author had any idea of where they wanted the story to go in the end when they set out. At the end of a series I really like for most things to be wrapped up but a lot of the stuff that happened in the first 2-3 books didn’t seem to carry over well in the end.

Marion has never been my favorite character but I could at least sympathize with her a little in a few of the books. However in this when we learn her true motivations I just wasn’t floored by them and I really didn’t get them or the lengths she was willing to go to for them.

King Konig is the worst and no matter how much I didn’t love Marion he gets the biggest jerk award for the series and I was happy with his fate at the end of this.

The shining moment for this book for me didn’t even belong to the main characters but to Arawn a.k.a. sociopathic demon and Charity the vampire revenant. Weirdest love story ever really, but it was almost reading this series just for this.
He bent over the tattoo chair and kissed her. Arawn tasted like rotten meat. His tongue was slimy, like the maggots he so often tattooed on members of his gang. His teeth had edges like razors.
Charity loved it.
She loved him

Demon love is a real thing and those two have it in spades.

Seth, well as much as I wanted him to get his happily ever after I also believed he could do better. Still you have to respect a guy that will go through everything he did for the woman he has chosen to love.
“I told you that you’d one day meet someone worth shattering universes over, didn’t I?”

There are a few really cool moments in this and I enjoyed quite a few of the side characters. I was surprised by how much I really liked Able once we got to spend some time with him. The techie Fae of the Hardwicks were a delightful surprise as well but there were at least 2-3 PoVs I didn’t care about at all so that made parts of the entire series really drag actually.

In the end I liked the epilogue and thought it was fitting. For me there were things that just didn’t resolve well from book 1 to book 5 and I wish they would have been fleshed out better. Perhaps I’ll read Elise’s story one day. I’m glad I read it to the end to know everything but this was the hardest series for me to complete in a long time.

Also I finished this so I get a fucking cookie.

It's over! Finally! I think I rated it so high just because I'm finally done with the series. So what can I say about this book... Marion is the very definition of a spoiled, entitled little bitch with delusions of grandeur. You see for years she's manipulated everyone around her for the following reason - she's jealous. Jealous of her step sister Dana because their mother payed more attention to her, jealous of Elise because Elise is a god, jealous of pretty much everyone. Because the word "enough" apparently has no meaning to Marion. All the power she had was never enough, all the beauty, all the influence. No, she wants to be the top dog and she figured out that she'll supplant Elise as a god. But there's one small problem with dear Marion's plan - it could never work! There are two possible ways things could happen if Benjamin, who is supposed to go back in time to help Genesis happen, doesn't go back in time. One, the universe collapses and everyone dies or two, the evil demon from Ascension gets to be the new demon god of the triad and then everyone dies at best or every dimension becomes a hell dimension. The thing is Marion is uniquely situated to know all that. She's in fact the only one who has access to James and Elise, who are the only ones who know what precisely went on in those final days before Genesis. But noooo, Marion wouldn't even bother to ask or think or check with the Librarian, you know the creature that chronicles time itself Genesis after Genesis! Someone should have done the universe a favour and smothered Marion in her crib!

Let's move to Seth, the God of Death. How can you be omnipotent (because most of the time he is) and still be so utterly naivë? I just can't wrap my head around it. And don't tell me it's because he had his omnipotence curbed by the ash of the Tree of Knowledge. From the moment his avatar died to the moment he made that deal with James he was omnipotent so he should have known what Marion is planning or at least known what a twisty, power-hungry little liar she is. Why the hell was he so trusting? Sure it worked out fine in the end. Except for all the beings that died because of her machinations. I hate Konig but even I felt pity for him because one of the reasons he turned into an abusive, power crazed patricide was Marion. She made him fall in love with her (even though she says she found him despicable) and then fed his ego and whispered sweet words of world domination in his ear. Konig is an awful person but maybe, just maybe if he hadn't met Marion he wouldn't have fallen so far.

Talking about Konig, I hate that man with a passion! He's so despicable in this book that I just can't find the words to describe it. The one good thing that happened was that he died! Too bad that he didn't manage to kill Marion. If those two had died I would have thrown a party! I do have a problem with his death, though. It was not slow and painful enough. He should have suffered for all his sins. He is a mass murderer who thinks that the sun shines out of his own ass and everyone who can't see it must die. Even his own father thought that he should be removed from the throne! So, of course, dear Konig killed him. Why not, everyone who's not Team Konig must die, right? What is wrong with you people??? Konig wonders why his father tried to stop him after he basically tore apart the Middle Worlds and committed genocide, Marion's wondering why no one likes her and why Rylie, a mother figure to her, has a contingency plan to kill her after Rylie watched her manipulate everyone around her and even go so far as to victimize herself in high school just so she can gather sympathy! Seth is pining over a sociopath and the angels (mainly Leliel) whine that they're going extinct because Elise hates them after (spoiler for Ascension) A shitload of people whine about what Genesis did to them but (again spoiler for Ascension) Things weren't better before Genesis, just most people lived in blessed ignorance.

The only bright point in this whole mess were Charity and Arawn. God, they're cute. In a very disgusting way. I gagged a few times when they were kissing. The description of Arawn's breath almost did me in. Also they're the only people that actually have brains in that universe. Too bad that they weren't the MCs. The series would have been much better.

In the epilogue we got to see a glimpse of Elise in the form of the Godslayer avatar. And by that I mean we got to see the Elise I adored in prequel series - gruff, uncommunicative but loyal to a fault. All this time in the Magecraft series Elise was villainized, by Seth, by Marion, by Leliel. So when the Godslayer showed up everyone thought that she's there to kill Marion. In the epilogue we saw how much Elise cares for her little sister. And she showed it i the only way she's capable of by teaching her how to survive. I think that the only reason Marion got so far with her plan was that Elise loves her too much. Just as with James, Elise is blind to her faults and refuses to see it when the evidence of Marion's evil is before her. Anyone else Elise would have struck down long before that moment. But she gave her a chance to step away and live. Just like she did with James. I don't approve but maybe that makes Elise the better person, the one capable of forgiving things I think are unforgivable.

I'm pissed at the ending. Because after all she did, ultimately Marion got rewarded. She not only got to live but she got o live the rest of her life with Seth, on Earth. And while Seth deserves a HEA after all the bullshit the universe gave him before Genesis, I don't think that Marion should have gotten one.

I received this book free of charge from the author.

As my star rating shows. I liked this book. But of all the series and subseries in the S.M. Reine world this Mage Craft subseries about Marion and Seth's strange love for each other and angels and gods and demons and hell hounds... oh my!

Look, don't get me wrong. I love Ms. Reine's writing and how she keeps things moving. And at least by this book, I am not needing a cast of characters chart to remember who everyone is. But still, once all our favorites are unidentifiable as angels and faceless gods. And the reader is left knowing the story is not over, just not a cliff hanger.

If you ever get the chance to read these series(es) by Sara Reine you will find yourself in worlds you know and yet, don't know. Often stories take place in places like Reno or other real cities. Landmarks keep you anchored yet the manning of said city is not by people you know or would want to know in some cases. That keeps the story alive and real for a fantasy.

As I always recommend, start with the Six Moon Summer where you meet characters that stay with you through all the books. They don't do a lot in some books but prove invaluable in others. It is always fun to meet them again and again. Like old friends. And maybe you will like this series far better than I did. I hope so. Sara Reine is quite prolific and keeps her readers wanting more!

What an amazing ride this has been! Even at the end of this series, I still do not like Marion. Seth is the only one that had faith in her and I really do not believe she deserves him. Lots of things happen in this book, can I say that I am happy that Konig is dead? Wow, I really hated him and his strange justifications of his actions. Even if I don't like Marion, she was treated horribly by Konig. By the end of the book, things are pretty well tied together except I wonder about Benjamin. Looking forward to Dana's series!

If you haven't read anything in this world, I don't even know where to start and how to describe this series to you. I can say, however, that this book really wraps up all the loose ends and gives a wonderful happily-ish-ever-after type ending. I mean, as much as you can get something with flowers and unicorns in this gritty world.

We join the drama already in progress: Marion is still working her own game, lying to almost everyone in one way or another. Seth is brooding because he loves Marion and can't see the bigger picture (ironic, for a god). Charity is still one of the best characters, in one of the most "normal" relationships of the series, yet still able to act as a friend to Seth when he needs one. Who else? Konig is... still horrible and getting worse? It's very hard to tell, since he always appeared to be an angry, crazy man. Oh, and the original sidhe play a pretty big role now, which is pretty satisfying if you know their history and the tie-ins to this series.

I guess the large part of this book is war. Konig is determined to kill everyone and take everything, like a petulant child. Marion, for some reason or another, is still acting like the doting wife when she's not sneaking behind his back. Don't worry, everything gets explained in the end, but it was still frustrating to watch things spiral in such a way. In the author's typical fashion, the side characters find a way to become key players in the upcoming shift of their world. I was happy to see some of my favorites make it out "okay." How to summarize? The war finds its ultimate conclusion, the time warp (ha) ends up triggering (which you know has to happen), and some tough choices are made. I am not sure anyone actually trusts anything towards the end because there are so many secrets and betrayals, but, thank goodness, there is an epilogue.

If you are at all interested in an amazingly detailed urban fantasy filled with political intrigue and just about every type of paranormal I can think of, this world is *awesome.* I still think you should start wayyyyyy back in the beginning with Elise, but you could probably still appreciate the world by starting with book 1 of the mage craft series. Do it!

Reading the last book in a series is always bittersweet. The Mage Craft series is no exception, not by a long shot. I couldn't be happier with the way things worked out FINALLY for Seth, but as they say, it's not always the destination, but the journey and S.M. Reine didn't skimp on Seth and Marion's journey at all...

CreativeDeedsReadsDisclosure1Okay, so if you've read all the other books in this series and you're getting ready to start Cast in Godfire, you need to know something going in... pay attention! It's true that a lot has happened so far, but you've got no idea... trust me.

I don't want to give anything away, but things got a little crazy. It was made even more crazy by the fact that S.M. Reine has a knack of making you doubt your loyalty to some characters while making you fall in love with characters that you never expected to, depending on whose head she allows you in at the time. Of course, there are some characters that she'll never make me turn my back on, no matter how hard she tries. Trust me, she's tried really, really hard. I'm loyal like that ;)

She's also really good at making you laugh and cry... One of my favorite lines in Cast in Godfire? "...you crazy colostomy bag of a half-angel!" There were more, but this one was hard to forget. And of course, less than a page later she had me shedding tears. One of the many, many reasons the author has me ALWAYS coming back.

So, long story short, there's a lot that happens in Cast in Godfire and Marion and Seth's story comes to a satisfying end... kind of. However, this crazy world that S.M. Reine has drawn us into is far from over. I'm pretty sure we haven't seen the last of Seth and Marion. They may not be front and center, but they'll still be around. There were also just a few loose ends at the end of their story that I'm kind of anxious for her to resolve. (Mild understatement.)

Once again, if you haven't introduced yourself to this crazy universe, you really need to fix that. You can pretty much start anywhere because all of her series are written to be stand alone. But... they're all intertwined... check out her timeline. You're welcome ;)

I received Cast in Godfire in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Advance copy granted to me by SM Reine for an honest review.

Will You Trust The Almighty Voice of God?

The fifth book in the Mage Craft series, Cast In Godfire is by far the hardest one to read for all the right reasons. 1. It's the last one and needs to be savored (but alas all good things must come to an end, right) 2. The plot has multiple tails growing in every possible direction, so you have to pay close attention or you will miss important clues (a heart made of ash from the tree of life, the return of the Godslayer, Leliel and her nest of spheres, Benjamin Flynn and Nathaniel Faulkner, Metaraon's statue, the list goes on and on) 3. You just don't know if everyone is going to get their happily ever after, so it's a nail biter. (Hint: Marion is not pining away whilst waiting for the return of her beloved Death).

Pulling a favor from one of the Gods, James to be exact, (a favor that when returned also happens to seal Death's fate), Seth returns to Earth on what is supposed to be an easy quest - to convince Marion that she needs to help prevent a war in the underground by removing some protection wards. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong. First Seth must help her, and that helpful deed may turn out to be the undoing of the world as everybody knows it.

The emotional rollercoaster shifts the reader quickly from low to high and back again. One moment Marion is with Seth (yeah) then Marion is with Konig (boo) then back with Seth (yes) then back with Konig (damn it). With each move Marion makes the important question resurfaces. Why should Seth trust someone as under handed and selfish as Marion? Everyone has told him about her traitorous behavior, but will he listen? Read Cast in Godfire to find out if he follows his head or his heart and if he ends up getting 'burned' because of the choices he makes.

Omg, what a freaking ending. I loved this peek into the Sighe worlds. It was a change from the angel/demon worlds, but still as wtf worthy.
Once again the familiar with the added twist of Reine's imagination to make it really mind-blowing. I was both sad and happy to see characters change over the books/series. I don't know if one needs to read the other books she's written, but omg they make the current ones so much richer and enthralling when you do. I love hearing a character's name and thinking ... now where did I hear it before ... and try to remember where you first heard that name. Then there is that omg/ah-ha moment you get when you do.
I just want to lol @ Nicky and Hooch ... it took me a second to remember who they were, but once I heard their names together I had a light bulb moment and am excited to see what Reine does with them, if anything because you never know when a side character might come back and surprise you. I so was not expecting them to take such a role in later books.
I loved the ending of this book. It was sweet to see after you thought something like that would not happen. I totally loved Elise's part, even though she didn't speak. Lol @ squeezing the toothpaste in the wrong spot. I never did get people's fury at another person doing that wrong. I just fix it how I want to and get on with life. Though I do fix people's toilet paper when it is put on the holder wrong. Anything but over is just unefficient and awkward.

I have jumped from book 4 on to 5 and was a bit surprised by Marions behaviour now. As she has her memories back, there must be a reason for this. But it is good or evil? This was the only reason for me to keep on reading, I wanted to know if Marion had a bigger big plan or what she was up to.
Unfortunately, this series didn't do me a great favour. As mentioned in the former review, I should have read other books before to keep a chronological order. Also, I might have forgiven more the facts that don't sum up.

I enjoyed the ending of the book, the last couple of chapters describing what happened in Marion's life after it was all over, but I hated pretty much everything that got the story to that point. Especially coming up to the end, it seemed like the author just decided to toss out everything that made sense and just do whatever was needed for the conclusion - The cuteness of the ending and Marion's character growth in those last couple of chapters was the only thing that redeemed this book from 2 stars to 3.

Wow, this was a wonderful book that sucks you right in. Ms Reine writes such complex worlds that I find myself taking notes. In a good way. She is such a genius to come up with what she does. This is so epic and will stay with me for a long time. I think I'm going to get the audiobooks to the whole series as soon as they are available. This is one unique author that once you read her stuff, you will never forget her. And she is such a kind and generous person. Most of her books are listed for free! If not then she often has sales. Such a wonderful lady! I thank her for making my world brighter.

Cast in Godfire

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and all of the others in this series. SM Reine has a writing style that literally pulls you in to the story. You feel like you are a part of the story, from beginning to end. You laugh, you cry and share every other emotion of the characters as you read along.

SM Reins is, in my opinion, a masterful storyteller. I am always sad when a series end, because all of the characters seem like friends, and I do not want my friends to leave!

Enjoy reading this book, and all of the other books by SM Reins e!

This is the end of Seth and Marion.

It's definitely not the ending you have been expecting and if I say much it will give to much away.

So instead I'm going to say this is one of the best series I think I've ever read and would definitely tell all who enjoy the paranormal romance and wars that you need to read this series.

Read and enjoy.

Enjoyed this series and it was tidied up well in a longer book than the others.

I recommend people read S M Reine but when you do make sure you pick up a reading order guide becausethere is a loose order and sometimes strong interaction between each series.

Sara never disappoints her fans with her writing. She packs her books with surprises and action. This book is the end of this series, and I was very happy with the way the book ended. This series has been full of turmoil and it kept me on my toes, so to speak. I have enjoyed every moment of the happenings with Marion, Seth and their family and friends even when they frustrated me with their actions. I am looking forward to reading everything she writes in the future. I received an ARC of this book as a proud member of Sara's Advance Reader Team, and I am a huge fan of her work.

Marion has her memories back and seems to be back to her cold, arrogant self. Seth wants nothing more than to help her. As the God of Death, he sees everyone’s death and he wants nothing more than to help Marion. James, one of the other gods, gives Seth a small amount of time to go back and do what he must, but the cost is high.

Marion seems to be playing so many different angles it is hard to know who the real Marion is. Seth is convinced that he knows who she is, and that she only tries to do things to help others. The rest of the world sees Marion in a much different light.

Benjamin has Nathaniel Faulkner inside his body making his life miserable. Benjamin doesn’t want to change the world. He just wants to go home. He’s been missing for months and can’t figure out how to come out on top of his horrible situation.

The final book in the Mage Craft series and I was sad to see it all come to an end. I know it isn’t the final book in this long running story but it was the one that made me the saddest to see end. Absolutely a fantastic story and end, you are not going to want to miss this one! Look out for the next series by SM Reine where Marion’s half-sister, Dana, who is a vampire hunter gets bitten.

Holy wow, this series had some REALLY big things happen during it. In the sense that if I met Marion in a dark alley, I'd run screaming in the other direction because THINGS HAPPEN when she's around. War and bloodshed and beheadings and trying to end the world as everyone knows it.

Marion's a complicated lady.

Dangerous, too. But let's not put labels on the woman who fell in love with Death and had so many plans in motion that no one knew whether she was coming or going.

Speaking of Seth, I spent the bulk of this book wondering if his trust in Marion was misplaced. I SO wanted it to turn out all right because Seth deserved a happily ever after. But I didn't know, man. I didn't know.

Also, Konig can suck it. I feel no pity for the guy. He orchestrated some very bad events and he continually saw himself as entitled to the things he was taking. I can't recall the last time I disliked a character as thoroughly as I disliked him. In the love to hate sort of way, of course.

I'm sad to see this series end, but it ended SO well. Plenty of danger and heartache and resolution for everyone. *thumbs up*

The conclusion to this series did not disappoint! There were tons of frustrating moments. I felt like we got to see less of Marion's point of view in this one, but for a very good reason. The writing was awesome, as usual. Sara has a knack for descriptions which stay in line with the current character's POV. You'd never hear something flowery from Seth, for instance, and I loved that.

I received this book in return for an honest review.

All the characters in these books are always complex, motivated and three dimensional.

SPOILERS BELOW
-----------------------------------------

My hate for Konig knows no bounds. I can't even deal. Even when he died it just wasn't enough for me. I'm not a vengeful person, but man, I'd love for him to be face beaten and drown in sludge for all of eternity. Woman-beating scumbag. Still, I understood why he was who he was and that was the genius of Sara's villian here. He wasn't just evil for the sake of evil. He had his own conflict and goals.

Marion was the best version of herself in this book and I particularly enjoyed the denouement. I hope to see Seth and Marion in the Dana series too.

Thanks for writing such an awesome series, Sara!

I have always had a soft spot for Seth and felt he deserved better and I have really enjoyed this new series. Marion on the other hand I disliked immensely with her all double dealing and double crossing you never really know where you stand with her- if at all yet Seth saw something in her that no one else did. It will be sad to leave this world and this last installment tied up quite a few loose ends, it even redeemed Elise in my eyes. I am pleased with the end result although I think Marion didn't get exactly what she deserved and as for Konig - well "Revenge is a dish best served cold". This series was action packed and it was like a trip down memory lane revisiting old friends like Rylie and Abel and then exploring the personalities of Yimir and Charity who I instantly felt drawn to. Sara is a wonderful storyteller who pulls you into her world, tugs at your heart strings and these stories stay with you long after the last page has been turned.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

I am still feeling confused and emotional after finishing this book. It was a big book spanning so many events and concludes the Marion and Seth story. I think this would be the wrong book to pick up for a new ready but as someone who has read all of the books in the universe it really put together some missing pieces and brought back some wonderful characters both old and new.

Marion is such a complicated character. I failed wildly from loving her and rooting for her to being suspicious to downright disliking her. That really kept me interested in where I would land in the end. Thankfully the ending have Marion and Seth a true conclusion of their story.

I don't really know what to say, if you have read her books before I feel it will be loved of you are new to get books back up a little bit too really understand the interplay involved here.

I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Once again, Sara Reine delivers a stellar finale. In the gripping conclusion on Marion and Seth's story, we get every perspective except Marion's until the end. It provides mystery, because no one truly knows what Marion is thinking since her memories returned. We get to explore more about other characters, while enjoying their perspective on the coming events.

My favorite was Seth's point of view. He offers such a unique voice, and I'm proud of him for maturing, and being willing to return to the gods. I wish we got to explore more interactions with Elise and James, and I cannot wait for more books to be written on the pair.

The storyline was all wrapped up in a pretty bow, but there is still growth left for all of the characters, that I hope to see explored in future series. Sara has built a wonderful, unique world, and I cannot wait to continue exploring it.

Wow. When Sara brings you a conclusion to a story, she really brings it. Like a boss.

This final chapter doesn't shy away from the conflict; doesn't water down the confrontations; doesn't give the reader much of a chance to breathe. And, although I can't always follow the twists and turns on the first pass, I don't mind.

I never feel like I completely understand what is going on. And I don't care. I love these stories. I love the world she has created. I love the characters. Well. I didn't really love Marion = for much of this and the previous volumes. However. Without wishing to give anything away, the final incarnation of Marion deserved the ending she got.

With this series, Sara has pulled the reader into a maelstrom of action and emotion. I, for one, enjoyed the ride.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

The 5th and last book in S.M. Reine's Magecraft series.
Not for the squeamish or faint hearted or younger readers.
I've been looking forward to the conclusion of this series since the beginning of it. I could not see how the story would end with the impossible romance and marital abuse that goes on though the series. Gods interfering in mortal lives and sidhe warring with one another threatening to turn the world into oblivion again. Demon relationship that somehow Sara has managed to make sound sweet.
Even after all the drama there is a happily ever after that reminded me somewhat of Doctor Who and Rose crossed with Bella and Jacob from Twilight.
Thoroughly enjoyed it as I do with all of Sara's books.

I received a copy of this on my kindle in exchange of a review. I've said it before and I'll say it again I've really enjoyed the books by S.M. Reine and seeing how much better her writing has gotten. This has been a unique and awesome experience for me to watch her writing progress. This book was a good conclusion to Marion's story. I wasn't sure if I'd ever truly like her character but she grew on me at the end. Even though she was always at odds with Heather I liked her too. I enjoyed getting to know a different set of characters better in this universe the author has created. I look forward to reading whatever she writes next.
