Francesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.
She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.
Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.
Within this book is the story of Horrid Henry goes shopping, which is a funny story, wherby Horrid Henry, who is a mischievious boy and his brother Perfect Peter, who as the name suggests is perfect, go shopping with their parents. It ends in a nightmare with Horrid Henry trying everything he can not to go, leaving his parents mortified by his antics. The story is very funny for children to read or have read to them as it has a meaning to them. The children related to the story, where there have been times they have not wanted to go shopping and tried their best to not have to go. Also the children who i read this book to commented on the alliteration used in the book and how the illustrations within it made the story even funnier. The childrens attention was constantly on the book throughout me reading it to them and it lead to lots of discussions afterwards within the group of children. A good, meaningful story for children to read.
I don't particually like Horrid Henry. This was a quick read and has some good ideas and jokes. I only read it because it was lying on the floor. I picked it up and started reading...! I recommend this book for a quick read.
Horrid Henry wanted the ticket to go to the the soccer match and his teacher has two tickets . The whole class had to play a match and see who will win . The two who scored the most goals are Margaret an Henry . It was 2 : 2 and it was penalty shoot out and nobody scored but the teacher so she get to keep the ticket with her mom , but because Henry helped her in the morning she gave it to him .Henry was so pleased that he could go . He saw his favorite team named Manchester United won the match . Henry's teacher was so angry she did not watch the match of the Manchester United . I thought Henry was not able to go to the match . I hope you like it as I did . You can watch the video at : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIHqd... and at https://www.netflix/horridhenrythefoo...
Having been bullied in elementary school for years I found it quite difficult to read this book. I know children like them - and I read the books my husband buys for children before he gives them away - I still found this hard to read.
I made it through the first story - Horrid Henry Peeks at Peter's Diary - but after that - I was done. It just started to bring up way too many negative memories.
I like when Henry tried to get rid of bossy bill out of his school. I wish I didn’t didn’t have him in this class. Well, I wish I actually didn’t want him because I don’t like bossy that much and I don’t like bossing friends even when some people bust me around Can you stop it please? That’s what she always says.
I only read this book as it's a gift from my 8 year old niece who knows that I love to read books and surely I should read ALL books. Haha 😄 the book is just as painful as the TV show. Got to hand it to the author for being creative and showing another side of childhood I never imagined.
I read this book to get myself out of a reading slump. It was a very fun and easy-going book with very comprehendible language and funny chapters. My favorite chapter was the last chapter (Horrid Henry's Arch Enemy).
