I listened to The Cavanaugh House by Elizabeth Meyette a while back and instantly knew that I needed to listen to its sequel. In the first book, The Cavanaugh House did Jesse, after breaking up with her cheating boyfriend move to the house her aunt left her. She learned that the house was haunted by her aunt and with a little bit of help from friends did she put her dead aunt to rest. Now everything should be peaceful in her life, but after finding a "body" on the road and once again "seeing" a spirit does it seem that the peaceful life she is after is just a dream for now.
I was very pleased that Amy McFadden narrated this book as well. She is very pleasant to listen to and she shifts between the characters effortless. Part of the joy of this book is listening to her tell the story.
As for Buried Secrets did I find this story a little less interesting than The Cavanaugh House. Don't take me wrong, I enjoyed the book and Jesse is a great character. It's just the plot was stronger in The Cavanaugh House and I was more taken with Jesse plight to find who killed her aunt. And, the triangle drama that I was glad to not have in the first book did occur in this book, although with a new male character. Or triangle drama, it was more failed communication problems and misunderstandings. Why can't characters just talk it book? This is a pet peeve of mine, and I'm sure other readers won't mind it as much as I did. One thing I really liked is the friendship between Jesse and Maggie, who is a nun. It's such an odd pairing and I love their banter.
I enjoyed the book and I would definitely read/listen to more books about Jesse Graham!

I really enjoyed this atmospheric mystery suspense. Some really likeable and some detestable characters! Plus a sweet romance between Jesse and Joe. There is quite a bit of mild cursing, plus two religious swears by the same 'mean girl'. No "F" bombs, however.

I began reading this book during a microburst rainstorm that knocked out my power for hours, so of course, I got sucked right into the story line. Jesse Graham is a feisty redhead who is trying to live the quiet life in upstate New York she thinks she wants. But at every turn, life keeps throwing her curve balls. And dead bodies. She's encountered ghosts before, in the house she was renovating in Meyette's book, The Cavanaugh House. But the ghosts in this tale have sound effects, drums, beads, feathers and a bit more American Indian lore. Ms. Meyette had me hooked from the first chapter. Throw in a sweet romance, and this book hit every feel-good button. I loved it.

This thrilling sequel to The Cavanaugh House has Jesse Graham dealing with another ghost and another dangerous villain intent on preventing her from discovering secrets. She's still working out her feelings for Joe Riley when the handsome riding instructor starts to muddy things up there. Add a school full of angst-filled teenage girls, and you've got a page-turning story well worth a few sleepless nights.

What made the experience of listening to Buried Secrets the most enjoyable?
It had to be Jesse getting me hooked on her latest mystery.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jesse had to be my favorite with her friend from St. Bart's coming in a close second. For some reason Jesse seems to attract things that need to be solved. She seems to be the Jessica Fletcher of her time period. Can you imagine if those two characters met?
Have you listened to any of Amy McFadden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I was fortunate enough to hear her narrate the first book titled "Cavanaugh House". It was a great follow up. She had me thinking about how Jesse seemed to be a younger Jessica Fletcher in the way she went about solving things.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes but of course that wasn't an option. I had no trouble picking up where I left off though. Liked it so much that I listened to it twice.
Any additional comments?
I have found that I prefer to listen to this author's work but I would also be open to read the actual book. This series is great in that you don't have to have listened to the first book in order to enjoy this one. But if you want to know about her relationship with Joe and the family that she didn't know she had than you want to make sure to check it out.
Ms. McFadden does a great job in bringing our main character to life. She had me giggling every once in a while and I'm sure at times the people in the next car thought I was nuts. But I didn't care. I enjoyed every minute that this narrator was reading to me. She is one of the reasons, as well as this author, that I no longer like to listen to the radio. When I have great narrators and authors to listen to why would I.
This author has other works that I will need to check out but sadly this was the only other book in her audiobook arsenal. But that won't stop me from doing a search every once in a while to see if she's added anything else. I can never have enough books in my audio library.

I enjoyed this book but I was glad I had listened to Cavanaugh House first. This book can stand alone but Cavanaugh House gives the background for this story. Jesse Graham, fresh off a broken engagement, leaves the city to move to the Finger Lakes region of NY state and takes a job in a catholic girls school recommended to her by her best friend Maggie, aka Sister Angelina. Leaving the school one night she nearly runs over a "body" in the middle of the road. Everyone seems to think this is just a student prank but a ghostly light in the woods, strange noises in the basement of the school and threats on a student make Jesse think otherwise. There are enough plot twists to keep you wondering and listening to the end. All in all, this book and the one before it are satisfying ghost stories.

I liked the first one in spite of the main character. This one I just couldn't get past her. Jesse is a 28 year old with the brain and emotions of an 18 year old. She's confused about EVERYTHING! She finds a dead body and can't decide whether to call her BFF or the police?! She's confused constantly about her relationship and these two things take up a TON of time in the narrative. So this is really too bad because the ghost story and the mystery are pretty solid. But I've had enough of Jesse.

This book was very repetitive. The character of Jesse became boring in this book. She's not ready for a relationship, this is repeated at least a hundred times, yet her heart "flutters" when she hears Joes name. I read this book only because it was a sequel to the Cavanaugh House, but really it was a terrible sequel and I skipped whole pages to discover the ridiculous mystery at the end.

This is my fist book by Elizabeth Meyette. Buried Secrets is the 2nd book in the Cavanaugh House Series and although I did not read/listen to the 1st book The Cavanaugh House iwas able to follow along. This is a stand alone. It does reference some people, places, and things in book 1 it is a whole new story. I enjoyed this book a lot.
Elizabeth Meyette to me has done a great job of bringing a haunting, some romance, a mystery, and a huge does of suspense to this book, and series. At times I was wanting to fast forward just to see what the outcome was of certain parts of the book. The book is not filled with an overdose of random details or descriptions that mean nothing to the story, I personally really like that. I was on the edge of my seat several times in this book. There is a little violence, some mild cursing (no F Bombs), and no sex in the book.
Amy McFadden narrates the audiobook and I really enjoyed listening to her. She has lots of feeling and emotion in her rendition. She really kept my interest.

It is also haunted by a Weeping Indian woman who is looking for her child. But that is not all there is another threat of danger that is putting the lives of the girls, the Nuns, and Jesse as well in danger.Also the romance between Jesse and Joe from book one continues.

An intriguing, entertaining and thrilling suspense!
Buried Secrets is a mystery mixed with a little bit of romance. There were so many twists and turns throughout the whole book to keep you entertained. Jesse is strong and full of such compassion and curiosity – sometimes this can her into trouble.
This book was well written, witty and enjoyable. It will keep you guessing up to the very end. The plot is exciting and believable while the characters are engaging. The scenes are vivid with good description so that you feel as if you were right there with the characters. Even though this is the second book in the series, you are able to read it without reading the first - it is a story uniquely its own.
Amy did a good job with narrating the audio book. The dialogue was well done. Her voice is smooth and gentle and she brings the characters to life by expressing the humor and strength of each character.
This was the second book by Elizabeth Meyette that I have had the pleasure to listen and read. I think I enjoyed it more than I did even the first book. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with a little bit of romance thrown in.

This is book two in a series, but you can read it separately with no problem. It takes place in 1968. Jesse, in the previous book, inherited a house, and then discovers that she is an heir to an immense fortune and manor home. But she is an English teacher at heart and is teaching in a Catholic girl's high school.
She discovers a "body" wrapped in a blanket lying in the road. This begins her first as a teacher year at the school. She discovers some mysterious goings on and thinks there may be a ghost, as well as some potentially dangerous mischief. She has a relationship with Joe, but having been burned by her former fiancé, she isn't ready to commit. Then she meets Scott, the equestrian coach.
Great characters, several mysteries, interpersonal goings on. All an all, a great story with some very interesting twists. It's well written and almost any reader can enjoy it.

Jesse Graham is looking forward to her first year of teaching English at St. Bart's school for girls now that the ghost who haunted her house has been put to rest. But her life becomes complicated when a new ghost - that of a Seneca Indian known as "Weeping Woman" - repeatedly visits Jesse and one of her students in a terrifying manor. There are other strange events taking place at St. Bart's not related to the supernatural which also keep Jesse awake nights. Plus, she is trying to figure out where her and Joe's relationship is headed. Burned by the recent bad ending of her engagement, Jesse pictures herself as an independent woman who can get along without a man so her emotions run hot and cold which confuse Joe to the point where he offers to leave her alone. With all of this going on, Jesse also tries to figure out how to handle her newly discovered status as heir to the Wyndham family fortunes. A great follow up book in the Finger Lakes mystery series.

Buried Secrets by Elizabeth Meyette pulled me in from the very beginning. I so enjoy books with a paranormal twist. This book is part of a series, and a standalone listen. The character of Jesse really appealed to me. The author created some very intriguing characters and had vivid imagery. I could picture so many details listening to this book. Amy McFadden is fabulous in her performance. She gives the right emotions to the characters and scenes. The post production of the book is also well done without added sounds that should not be there or doublets. Thank you Audiobookworm Promotions for this review copy, I loved it! I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. Without giving away spoilers, the ending of this book was well done!

This is less a ghost- suspense novel than a rosy teenage romance. You know, in 3 pages every elegible man within a large radius is in love with her.. yeah, that kind of book…
Very repetitive, seems the author believes that by repeating over and over the same thing: how good hero is, how pretty, how independent, how capable, how courageous, how altruistic would make her so

Of course her actions give lie to all this.
And is she dumb too. Heaven’s sake, not knowing whom to phone in an emergency? Her best friend or the police? And then phoning bff asking her to call the police??
Oh, and apparently if one talks above a whisper, her heart stops, her knees buckle, she has the fright of her life, every couple of pages or so.

Warm, loving and ghostly!
Odd review for an odd book. Ever want to burrow under the overs and read a Nancy Drew just to escape from the world? This book and it's prequel will deliver just that. The characters are artfully presented and three dimensional, the story has enough twists that this is clearly the ADULT Nancy. Some plots elements can be seen a Ile ahead, but others sneak up on you from behind and pounce. Fast paced, easy reading highly recommended for a snuggly pick-me-up! Bonus points if read it in front of a fire!

Great plots in both books, strong believable characters and more adventure in each book then I ever thought possible.

Excellent!
This seemed to start slowly and the problems between Jesse and Joe were troubling. Action then really started and continued to escalate. There are several entwined stories here and another ghost for Jesse to help. Teaching high school English brought Jesse into conflict with arrogant students and overbearing parents!

A girls school is haunted by a First Nations mother looking for the burial site of her child, killed by settlers. Combine that with rich, privileged school girls with mean streaks a mile wide and new teacher Jesse has her hands full. If you like ghost stories that actually have a story and not just apparitions screaming boo, this is your story. I was gifted this from the author.

I marked this book as DNF. I thoroughly enjoyed The Cavanaugh House and was excited when I found there was a sequel. Started reading Buried Secrets and just couldn't get into it. I tried and tried, but my mind just kept wandering away from it.

Intriguing
I really enjoyed Cavanaugh House and Buried Secrets didn't disappoint. Just Jesse was as stubborn yet as confused in the sequel as the first book. Her biggest problem were the scars on her heart and her father's name.

Loved this story, It was funny at times and heart warming at times and always interesting. You should really try it. I think you will enjoy this read.

Good book, enjoy the characters. Jesse always seems to push the envelope and get herself into trouble. Enjoy the storyline.
