Welcome to Haven Harbor, Massachusetts! In 1691, a group of renegade witches fled Salem in the dark of night, escaping the desperate evil that spawned the Witch Trials. They struck out to form their own town, with their own rules. Three hundred years later, their descendants celebrate by retracing those steps, but this year, a new evil stalks the Witches Walk…
It’s Time for The Witches Walk!
She’s got a plan. Burned out, beaten down, and on the brink of a career implosion, event management dynamo Mari Beecham bypasses the contract of a lifetime to take a job in a community known for its strange, spooky happenings. She doesn’t buy into the story line about the witches founding the town, but it’s great publicity. Bottom line? If she can make the annual Witches Walk a top destination event, she’ll save her career and, maybe, find some balance. She’ll do it, too, if “First Son of Haven Harbor” Peregrine Hestworth will stop interfering.
He’s in her way. As Town Council chair, Pere is serious about the safety and welfare of his people. He doesn’t want to like Mari. Even if he didn’t suspect his meddlesome mother of weaving a matchmaking spell, he still would have voted against hiring the petite whirlwind with a spine of steel. His visions of fire and death moving to Haven Harbor along with Mari are too deadly to ignore.
As trouble brews and the event stalls, the attraction between Mari and Pere bubbles like a cauldron. When a woman is attacked, and another disappears, Pere knows his unreliable foresight has hit the mark this time. An old evil is rising, with a new vendetta, and if they can’t work together, the devastation Pere foresees will take his town, along with the woman he’s coming to love.
It’s wonderful for a writer to live near Washington, DC as I do. The research resources are fabulous, the scenery is great – complete with monuments, gorgeous public buildings, and the most amazing, weird, convoluted, political people – and I get to be here with the most awesome family, friends and neighbors in the world. I live here with my wonderful husband (he’s my personal hero), my two delightful, growing-too-fast sons, and my three silly rescue dogs.
As former marketing executive, I worked for research parks, governmental concerns and not-for-profits, (which is also great fodder for the writer’s mind!) but now I’m happily employed as a consultant and full-time writer. I’m a member of Romance Writers of America, Science Fiction Writers of America, Mystery Writers of America, and Thriller Writers. I’m also a proud member of the Washington Romance Writers, an RWA chapter, as well as several online RWA chapters. I'm a former board member of the Romance Writers of America.
One of the most enjoyable things I get to do as a consultant and writer, is to teach. I enjoy connecting with my clients, readers and other writers. Having also worked in the funeral and cemetery business for nearly thirteen years, I teach a class on Body Disposal.
Being part of the Ad(d)ams Family, as you can imagine, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love to work in the garden, run my dogs, hang out with my family, and write. Other than that, as another, more famous author says, the rest is subject to change without notice.
Haven Harbor, MA, a town filled with witches and magick whose ancestors fled from Salem during the witch hunts. The town celebrates the original walk with an annual event and fundraiser. Mari is hired to help grow the event and soon finds herself invested in both personal relationships and a growing unease of danger.
Paranormal romantic suspense. 1st in a series.
I enjoyed following Mari’s education into the magick community and her quick friendships. Her family connections made the town inhabitants accept her quickly as one of their own which helped make the connections more personal. The story moves fast once she is immersed in the event planning. Well researched with many of the names and inter-familiar connections.
Don’t skip the epilogue! It’s part of the story and ties up dangling questions.
I look forward to reading more about the town and its inhabitants.
This is one of my favorite books this year! It is a great mix of mystery, magic and romance. The main characters, Mari and Pere, have great chemistry. It is a slow burn romance. Although the attraction is there right away, they do not act on it until later in the book. The townspeople are great secondary characters - some will hopefully be main characters in future books. There is an incredible twist in the epilogue. The villain is someone I never saw coming. Jeanne Adams handled the twist very well. Even though I did not figure it out, there are clues pointing to the character. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more about Haven Harbor and its residents.
The Witches Walk is a amazing I enjoyed the book from start to finish. I was addicted from the moment they introducted Mari and Pere and I could tell there was going to be something epic between these two main characters Mari and Pere. I enjoyed how this town took Mari in as one of there very own after only knowing her for a short period of time. Haven Harbor was such a sweet town that it was hard to believe that there was a single person that was mean even thought it was a town full of witches. But at the end of the day they were there for one another. I was very satisfied with the ending to The witches walk and I can't wait to dive into the next book in the Haven Harbor Series!
First let me start with the cover to the Book The Witches Walk is amazing! It grabbed my attention right away! Overall I loved the story line but I admit it seemed to have a slow start and at points it did drag. The mystery behind the accidents and trying to figure out who was causing them drew me in and had my attention. The romance aspect not so much, I would love to have it as just a mystery. I am more than willing to read the next in the series and give it a chance. The author has a lot of potential.
This book pulls you in from the first chapter. Mari moves to Haven Harbor to plan the annual festival and help it grow. From the moment she moves to town, strange things start happening, car accidents, kidnappings, etc. Pere is on the Town Council and he voted against Mari taking over the festival.
I enjoyed the town and all of the characters. I can't wait to start the next book.
A fun read and worth four and a half stars, just a breath shy of perfect for the genre, a paranormal romance thriller/murder-mystery mix. The book starts off slow, but builds to its lightning-packed conclusion, giving you time to get to know the town and people.
This very appropriate first book for a promising series introduces several potential singles you get to like and look forward to seeing in future books finding their true loves. (I really want Jake and Dan to get HEAs, and Jeff and Lydia too when I think about it.) Two more books of the series are already out when I read this in August 2017 - but only as physical books and I soooo want to read them right now. Kindle has spoiled me. Oh, and the potential romances aren't the only thing I want to follow forward - whether a certain witch finds herself an apprentice, seeing what the background big-bad has planned for its next attack, and, of course, exploring the really cool magick of the Haven Harbor Witches.
The first half of the book is about relationships being developed - welcoming a new person into town, power plays, family dynamics, and planning events. The second part is where the romance and the thriller action goes from the smoldering-tinder-gently-fed-hoping-a-spark-will-catch level to out-of-control bonfires. Ms. Adams somehow keeps both bonfires roaring without one consuming the other.
A good read and I think the next in the series, now the world has been established, will be even better.
What if there really were witches in Salem and some if them escaped? That's the premise of Jeanne Adams's Haven Harbor series, which follows descendants if those escapees in modern times.
Event planner Mari Beecham has had some setbacks in her career. If she can make the Haven Harbor Witches Walk, a commemoration of the escape from Salem, a big success, it will salvage her career. But Peregrine Hestworth, scion of one if the founding families and head of the town council, doesn't want her there. He has magical visions of fire and death associated with her.
The attraction between Mari and Pere isn't welcome on either side, but it's hot and escalating. They can't avoid it, despite their misgivings, because they need to work together on the Witches Walk. And someone doesn't want the event to succeed. As sabotage escalates to attacks, the sheriff realizes Mari is a target. A climactic, magical confrontation resolves the various plot threads in a satisfying way, but there are also hints of future trouble looming.
Loved this book! I enjoyed the characters so much and want more of Haven Harbor and all of it quirky residents. The book intrigued me from the get-go and the author employed so much misdirection (pretty well) that I was constantly trying to figure out what was going on - it was fun.
I read this book in about a week. I didn’t have a lot of time to read, but found myself squeezing in a few pages here or there at every turn. Nothing like a book that keeps you puzzling it out even when you aren’t reading it. I’ll definitely read more!
It isn't often you come across a novel with an event planner as the heroine. When I find one I tend to grab it. When I find one that is accurate as to what event planning entails I celebrate. To top my private party off, this event planning mystery includes the delights of well written urban fantasy, I.e., witches with real magic.
Well written and researched, deft characterization and dialogue. A lovely twist in the plot and well paced, I've enjoyed my time in Haven Harbor.
I am now eagerly waiting for the series to continue. I've already ordered the companion novella and am impatient for even more.
Great world-building, engaging characters, and loads of action. My favorite thing about this book is how the community all pitch in and help to make the Witches Walk a success. They also band together if someone is in need.
I love this book and can't wait to read the next in the series.
I was given this book for Christmas 2018 (purchased directly from the author and signed!) and I put it in my "pile to read".
I finally worked my way through to it and, after having read it...? I really wish I'd skipped the line and put it on top!
Haven Harbor is a charming little town filled with charming little witches and some not-so-charming bad guys. The pace is great, the story is comforting, and I pretty much fell in love with the setting and the characters.
I really, really, REALLY enjoyed this book and I will get my hands on "After Midnight" come hell, high water, or scary lightning ladies!
This was such a fun book! I love the idea of true witches escaping Salem and setting up their own community, and I love the idea that the community and the magic have survived until present time. Mari is such an interesting, strong character. I really liked that, though the romance was very much a main theme in the book, it wasn't the entirety of the book. She had other concerns too! Pere's reluctance to fall in love made sense. Really, all of the characters shine in this book - they're fun and feel very real. I'm a little confused about what the next book in the series is (it seems this series is shared by two separate authors), so I'm off to read After Midnight next :D
This is a great easy to read book! If you are a paranormal romance lover, this is your book. Mari gets hired to run a yearly walk from Salem to Gavin Harbor that retraces what a group of witches did when they escaped Salem 300 years ago. It's the typical heroine falls in love with the hero book, but the side characters are just as interesting as the main characters. I can't read the rest of the series.
This delightful yet, suspenseful story hooked me immediately. I connected with Mari and Pere's journey and looked forward to every love scene, with witty, sensual, and funny dialogue banter! The supporting characters in the town of Haven Harbor rounded out an engaging, mysterious, and thrilling story which had me wishing for more on the last page. Thank goodness there are additional books in the Haven Harbor series for me to devour!
This book was addicting and I couldn't put it down! There was so much mystery and so many moving parts that I had to keep turning the page. I enjoyed every aspect of this novel. Mari and Pere were smoldering hot and their chemistry was amazing. Haven Harbor and it's residents made for and interesting read! I can't wait to start the next book soon.
Love the beginning of this series. I appreciate when I start a new series and not everything unfolds in the first book. I enjoyed meeting and watching Mari & Peregrine's relationship build. The mystery took several twists and turns with a final twist I wasn't expecting. Looking forward to learning more about Haven Harbor!
This just wasn't my cup of tea. It was like a soap opera. Very little magic happened and there was just too much chatty, silly back and forth dialogue between the characters. The prologue was the best part and then the real story started and it just went downhill.
Why did I wait so long to read this book! Mari comes to Haven Harbor to take over as director of the Witches Walk event. Peregrine is not happy about this as he thinks his mom put a spell on both of them. But evil abounds, lies, selling of illegal drugs, the sins of witches, protests and death. The ending was very surprising!
