Growing up, Emily Franklin wanted to be “a singing, tap-dancing doctor who writes books.”

Having learned early on that she has little to no dancing ability, she left the tap world behind, studied at Oxford University, and received an undergraduate degree concentrating in writing and neuroscience from Sarah Lawrence College. Though she gave serious thought to a career in medicine, eventually that career followed her dancing dreams.

After extensive travel, some “character-building” relationships, and a stint as a chef, Emily went back to school at Dartmouth where she skied (or fished, depending on the season) daily, wrote a few screenplays, and earned her Master’s Degree in writing and media studies.

While editing medical texts and dreaming about writing a novel, Emily went to Martha’s Vineyard on a whim and met her future husband who is, of course, a doctor. And a pianist. He plays. They sing. They get married. He finishes medical school, they have a child, she writes a novel. Emily’s dreams are realized. She writes books.

Emily Franklin is the author of two adult novels, The Girls' Almanac and Liner Notes and more than a dozen books for young adults including the critically-acclaimed seven book fiction series for teens, The Principles of Love. Other young adult books include The Other Half of Me the Chalet Girls series, and At Face Value, a retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac (coming in September 2008).

She edited the anthologies It's a Wonderful Lie: 26 Truths about Life in Your Twenties and How to Spell Chanukah: 18 Writers Celebrate 8 Nights of Lights. She is co-editor of Before: Short Stories about Pregnancy from Our Top Writers.

Her book of essays and recipes, Too Many Cooks: Kitchen Adventures with 1 Mom, 4 Kids, 102 New Recipes ~ A Memoir of Tasting, Testing, and Discovery in the Kitchen will be published by Hyperion.

Emily’s work has appeared in The Boston Globe and the Mississippi Review as well as in many anthologies including Don't You Forget About Me: Contemporary Writers on the Films of John Hughes, When I Was a Loser: True Stories of (Barely) Surviving High School by Today's Top Writers, and Because I Love Her: 34 Women Writers on the Mother-Daughter Bond. Emily writes regularly about food and parenting for national magazines and newspapers. She travels, teaches writing seminars, and speaks on panels, but does not tap dance. Emily Franklin lives outside of Boston with her husband and their four young children.

Love from London is ok I guess? I found much of it to be silly or down right unbelievable, like a bunch of teens take a vacation abroad without any adults, one teen dates a teacher, one conveniently doesn't have to live in a dorm because her rich parents have a flat near by (I'm not sure she even went to any classes). Maybe my teen self would have liked it but my adult self thought it was kind of dumb. This is going in my donation bag.

I don't know, it was very hard to find it within myself to care about Love and her various mishaps. Maybe it's because I read the third book without really knowing what happened in the first two (although I could sort of guess from the information in this one and I honestly don't think I missed that much) or maybe because I just didn't connect with Love as a character. At the end of the book there was an excerpt from the following book which tells us a bit more about why and what happens when Love had to suddenly return home but, again, I couldn't care about it and found myself just skimming through and eventually just skipping the whole thing altogether.

I don't think I'll be reading the fourth book since it really really really doesn't interest me what happens next. Which is a shame because I expected great things from this series.

Bowie fans, don't waste your time!!! There's also a typo on the SECOND page, unnecessary cussing within the first few pages by a guy who's supposed to be a father figure, and I'm sure far more such things that would take away from the book. I would've given it a further chance regardless, but Shalimar is NOT a good person.

I liked the series at first but the books became a waste of time by the end of the series.

First off, I didn't realize this was the third book in a series. But except for a few things, I felt okay reading it without having read the others. Although, I am going to read them all. I'm addicted now!

At first, I wasn't sure what to think of this book. Love seemed to jump fast for the mysterious Asher and then things slow down. If you saw my GoodReads update, then you know that I was getting slightly annoyed. Why? The book is in first person, so I already know what Love is thinking. Well in the middle of sentences of her thoughts, in parenthesis would be like her side thoughts. It was annoying me at first. But the more immersed I became with the book, the less I noticed it and the less it bothered me.

Love is definitely someone I would love to meet. I think we would really click. We are both serious about our academics but not so much that we will miss out on too much fun. We've both asked ourselves to do or not to do and chose not to do.

Asher is the slightly jealous, mysterious, guy. When I think about the book, I think steamy romance and it's mostly because of Asher. He's just the type of guy that with a glance you know it would be steamy. Asher and Love are pretty great together.

Arabelle. She reminds me of some of my friends. She's wild. She craves fun and doesn't always choose the best guys and sometimes doesn't want to admit it. She seems like a great friend to Love.

Franklin has a way with words. Love from London is an addictive read. I was up until the wee hours of the night reading until my eyes hurt. I finally fell asleep and it was the first thing I picked up this morning and I read until it was finished. It was a very satisfactory read and I'm glad I bought it.

Addict's Last Words: Definitely consider picking up this addictive, fast read. I love some of the subtle implications Franklin makes in this book. (There's a variety of things. You'll have to read it and find them yourselves.) :)
To Buy or To Borrow: You could do either. I'm glad I bought it though.

The spirit is the same in yet another installment of Emily Franklin's fantastic Principles of Love series, but something's just a bit off about this one. While the new hints about Love's mother are certainly intriguing, they were the best part of the book. Love predictably gets another guy, and as well-developed as a character he is, in the end, he's just another one of Love's revolving door of random guys. Love's snobbish side seems to come out full-force in this one and it just wasn't the same. Something was just off, different about this book. It was annoying, really, since it's a series and one book shouldn't stick out as different from the rest of the series, but that's what this book does. Maybe if it were a stand-alone, or a companion novel, it wouldn't feel like filler. Who knows, maybe some of the filler plays a significant part in the other books and was necessary, but something tells me that isn't the case. Looking forward to obtaining All You Need is Love!

My opinion of this book is that it was okay, the 1st book was better in the series because there was more characters in the 1st book and the plot was better. I like reading these types of books because it is the 2nd book in the series and I like finishing all of the books in a series because you can find something new in every book. I could relate the main character to a lot of people in the world because the main character is going away for collage like most people do in the world. I would recommend this book to people who liked the first book because they can learn new stuff in this book.

I liked this one more than Principles of Love. I'm really sad I didn't get to read the one in between but I managed to grasp what happened in the previous book. There was a lot more focus on Love's life and a lot less of the annoying movie set up scenes. Also I have the biggest fascination with England so I loved the culture of it all!

Emily Franklin does such a wonderful job with the character Love. You can not help but enjoy this character more and more with every new adventure she embarks on. It is a great series and her adventures in London were wonderful.

I read this book forever ago. I didn't find it amazing, just cute. But I've read so many books over the years, so something about it must have stuck with me.

Would be more stars if it were edited better. Missing words, misused homophones, and continuity issues. Still, it's a good story.
