Dying really has a way of making a girl rethink her life choices.

Mischa Bartone was a runner. Running from anything that made her feel too much was kind of her thing. But not even an expert runner like Mischa could escape death. And when the only man who’d ever made her consider not running brought her back as a vampire…well, let’s just say she didn’t exactly handle it gracefully.

Giving the love of his life immortality didn’t go exactly as Hunter had hoped. As if having her push him away wasn’t punishment enough, he also ended up in prison for turning her without her written consent. And after months on the inside with no contact, he could only assume she was well and truly over him. So what if the memory of her consumed his every waking thought? That was his problem; he’d deal with it. Time to stop chasing Mischa Bartone once and for all.

But when Mischa and Hunter are thrown together on a case for a very pregnant Harper Hall, sparks fly—and it doesn’t take Mischa long to realize that letting Hunter go had been a huge mistake, the biggest of her life (er, undeath?). Time to stop running and fight for what—and who—she wants.

So, all she has to do is go undercover in the Miss Eternity vampire beauty pageant, find a couple of missing former contestants, stop a sicko stalker with a penchant for floral metaphors, complete her court-mandated vampire therapy sessions, and win back the man (er, vampire) she loves. In heels. And a skeezy pageant swimsuit. Easy, right?

Yeah, not so much.

Semi-Twisted works best if read as part of the Harper Hall Investigations series (Book 1: Semi-Charmed; Book 2: Semi-Human). This book is intended for mature audiences. This book is not intended for anyone who doesn’t enjoy smart, potty-mouthed heroines and dark, brooding heroes, and who doesn’t appreciate a plethora of nerdy pop culture references. For the rest of you: happy reading!

The normal:

Isabel Jordan writes because it’s the only profession that allows her to express her natural sarcasm and not be fired. She is a paranormal and contemporary romance author. Isabel lives in the US with her husband, her son son, a neurotic Shepherd mix and a ginormous Great Dane mix named Jerkface. (Don't feel bad for Jerkface. He really is a jerk.)

The weird:

Now that the normal stuff is out of the way, here’s some weird-but-true facts that would never come up in polite conversation. Isabel Jordan:

1. Is terrified of butterflies (don’t judge…it’s a real phobia called lepidopterophobia)
2. Is a lover of all things ironic (hence the butterfly on the first edition cover of Semi-Charmed)
3. Is obsessed with Supernatural, Game of Thrones, and Dog Whisperer.
4. Hates coffee. Drinks a Diet Mountain Dew every morning.
5. Will argue to the death that Pretty in Pink ended all wrong. (Seriously, she ends up with the guy who was embarrassed to be seen with her and not the nice guy who loved her all along? That would never fly in the world of romance novels.)
6. Would eat Mexican food every day, if given the choice.
7. Reads two books a week in varied genres.
8. Refers to her Kindle as “the precious”.
9. Thinks puppy breath is one of the best smells in the world.
10. Is a social media idgit. (Her husband had to explain to her last week what the point of Twitter was. She’s still a little fuzzy on what Instagram and Pinterest do.)
11. Kicks ass at Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
12. Stole her tagline idea from her son. Her tagline idea was, “Never wrong, not quite right.” She liked her son’s idea better.
13. Breaks one vacuum cleaner a year because she ignores standard maintenance procedures (Really, you’re supposed to empty the canister every time you vacuum? Does that seem excessive to anyone else?)
14. Is still mad at the WB network for cancelling Angel in 2004.
15. Can’t find her way from her bed to her bathroom without her glasses, but refused eye surgery, even when someone else offered to pay. (They lost her at “eye flap”. Seriously, look it up. Scary stuff.)

I knew going into this one that I wasn't thrilled with the main couple because we saw them get together in the previous books, but I read it anyway to get to the next one. So, it was no surprise that I felt very lukewarm about the whole thing and skimmed pages and pages of sex scenes because I just didn't care.

Yes, I skimmed the sex scenes. Why, you ask?
Think of it this way. You meet a couple that you just don't like. They offer to have sex in front of you. Do you say "yes"? No, of course not. You don't want to see that. It's like your parents having sex. You know they must have, but you just don't want to think about it.

Exactly. Some things should remain unseen.

You see, these two were side characters in the first books. Mediocre side characters. They had an angsty relationship and got together back then. Neither them, nor their story, was really sufficient enough to deserve a full book, so I'm not sure why we have one. They had been separated at the end of the last book, but it only took one conversation for them to get back together and settle things. So, again, why a whole book?

"Tell us more about your love for each other," said no one ever.

On the good side, we had a pregnant Harper in this one and she was funny and awesome as usual. When she ends up on bed-rest because of her high blood pressure, she has the men in her life carrying her around in a giant recliner chair. She also has them constantly out on missions to get her the latest food that she's craving. When she has one guy out their looking for cheesy tots and her hubs reminds her about lowering her salt intake:

"But I love salt! Salt is everything that is good and beautiful on this earth."

"You told me yesterday that doughnuts are everything that is good and beautiful on this earth," Mischa reminded her.

Her eyes lit up. "Ooooh, doughnuts.... Can I have doughnuts?"

They are quite tempting, aren't they?

But, there wasn't enough Harper to make this book worth it, IMO. So, we were stuck with the uptight Mischa and boring Hunter all book. The author tried hard to make them more likable. She even stole a couple of great lines from Harper and Riddick's story to try and make us like them. But, it didn't work. Do authors really think we don't notice when they have another couple say the exact same words and think the exact same things as the last couple? We notice. So, these two were boring at best and hacky at worst.

Nice try, bronies, but, as usual, you just don't get it.

Isabel Jordan delivers a laugh out loud, action packed, entertaining read with sassy dialogues and pop culture references that made me smile like a loon. An excellent addition to the Harper Hall series.

Hunter has walked the earth for more than a few centuries now, but never has he wanted a woman the way he’s wanted Mischa Bartone. For the past two decades Hunter had wanted to be with Mischa. Letting her die was not an option even if he ended up in jail for doing so without written consent. He never thought she’d run away from him. Will he stop with the Pepe Le Pew act or will he claim her once and for all?

“I like it that you…are the strongest, smartest, most selfless woman I’ve ever known. I don’t like it when you…doubt you’re everything I’ve ever wanted in this world.”

Shying away from all emotional conflict was Mischa’s MO, so when faced by death and a rebirth as a vampire she did what came naturally and pushed the only man she’s ever considered being with after he changed her. She regretted it almost immediately and helped secure his early release, but will she be strong enough to face him? Can she handle going undercover as a vampire beauty pageant contestant to find out who’s threatening the contestants and get back her vampire?

I like it that…after all the horrible things I said to you after you turned me, you forgave me, and even took a bullet to protect me. Again. I like it that…you’re the best man—vampire or human—that I’ve ever known.”

First thing’s first, I need to apologize for this really late review. There’s really no excuse for my tardiness, especially since I’ve loved this series from the moment I picked the first book up and I truly wanted more Hunter and Mischa. Now that I’ve read their story, let’s get down to the nitty gritty.

A great part of a good book are the appealing characters we meet, get to know and love and Harper Hall is one of these very likeable personalities so I’m glad we have her as mouthy and fun as ever along with Riddick, Violet, Lucas and the rest of the gang who provide lots of comic relief and help Hunter and Mischa find their happy.

Mischa had a lot to deal with, not just her very new transformation into a vampire. She had to face her fear of abandonment, her relationship with her family, the powers she acquired as an immortal and the quirks that came with them, and of course she had to come to terms with her feelings for Hunter.

Hunter was a sexy hot alpha vampire who just couldn’t say no to Mischa even when it made him chase after her like a fool. It was totally endearing and I loved that he finally got what he was after. Their attraction was sizzling hot and their banter was fast and fun.

Semi-Twisted is book #3 in The Harper hall Investigations Series by Isabel Jordan. It’s strongly advised to be read after the first two books in the series to get a better appreciation for the characters. It’s a fast, sexy paranormal romance written from both points of view with a happy ending.

reread 11/2023.
I had fun reading Mischa and Hunter's story again, and enjoyed their crazy group of friends interacting.
Mischa coming to terms with being turned into a vampire, while accepting how much she loved Hunter, was as awesome as I remembered.
4,25 stars.

Reread 03/2022.
Love Mischa and Hunter. Their chemistry and connection is AMAZING.
The storyline of the whole series is perfectly done, fastpaced, never boring, and there are no week links or week parts.
What a wonderful way to spend my time away from reality.

I didn't enjoy Semi-Twisted quite as much as the first two books - I felt that Hunter was not his usual confident, cheeky self and Mischa spent most of the time have a mental debate about Hunter and her feelings for him. I still enjoyed the hilarious scenes as well as the steamy, romantic ones that Ms Jordan writes so well, though I would have liked more time spent on the mystery and Hunter helping Mischa adjust to being a vampire and controlling her powers. Will I be reading the next book about Lucas? Hell yeah! Overall a great series - perfect if you are looking for a light, sweet read with plenty of humour.

I'm a big fan of Isabel Jordan - always find myself smiling as I read anything she writes. Semi-Twisted is book 3 in the series but features Misha and Hunter in the leads. Though Harper and her posse are around and adding laughs.
Mischa's a tough cookie, and kind of messed up - but she owns it, seeks help and is trying to turn her life around. Hunter is hotness personified - and what he wants is Mischa but he's concerned about scaring her off since she's a major flight risk.
These two get thrown together on a case - that is really outside Misha's comfort zone - which helps her break through some of her own barriers and learn to love herself. Own being a vampire. And stop running from Hunter, just because she has a few self-esteem issues.
I always feel these stories are way too short - just because I enjoy reading them so much and don't want the fun to stop. There is a heap of witty dialogue. Clever but not wacky scenes. A great supporting cast of characters.
Loving the series - now it's just a question of carving out time in my busy schedule to read book 4. Hmmm, maybe if I... and then I... don't worry, I'll work it out.

2.5 stars.

Written in the easy to read style that I’ve come to expect from Isabel Jordan, this was another funny installment of the Harper Hall Investigations series. I️ enjoyed the funny banter and seeing old friends from the previous books.

Aside from the romance, the plot was a little light in this one. The mystery was just too silly for me and I️ wasn’t really invested in figuring out what was going on. It got to the point when the MCs start figuring out who the perpetrator was and I️ thought to myself:”oh yeah! There’s a mystery afoot!” That’s not really a good sign.

And to be honest, I️ read this book to see how the MCs reconciled. My main issue was that it felt like I️ was missing a big part of their story. The H claimed that he’s wanted the h since they met over twenty years ago, and yet the first scene we see him in was in the first book, where he was having alley sex with a stranger. I️’m confused. Did he ever let the h know he wanted to be with her? It didn’t seem like it.

The MCs got together in the first book, but we didn’t get to see much of their interactions on page. Then the h died in the second book, the H brought her back by turning her into a vampire, she makes him think that she hated him for turning her, and he gets sent to prison. He broke the law and would’ve been sent to prison anyway, but the h told him that she needed time to sort things out. Understandable. That brings us to this book, where the h apologizes profusely and the H keeps thinking about how he can’t take being jerked around by the h anymore.

Like I️ said: I’m confused. At what point did she do that? Why was she labeled a runner? For the first twenty years, the H never indicated that he wanted something serious with the h, so she didn’t run from him then. Then the MCs were having a fine relationship before she died and was brought back, so there was very little running there too. She said she needed time to adjust to her vampire status and he was in prison anyway so she wasn’t running then. Why do other readers think she needed to grovel more?

I️ do like that they acted like adults in this one and had adult conversations about their feelings. I liked that the h made some really good choices regarding her life irrespective of the H. But I just don’t understand why people hated the h so much. If anything I️ didn’t like the H in the first book. He claimed he’s wanted her all along? The author sure made it sound like he had no problems sleeping with lots of OW during the two decades of wanting the h.

Overall, this was still a fun read. The MCs were strong in this book. It was totally safe, there was no OP drama, no intimate details of their pasts, and good communication. I️ just couldn’t get past the h taking all the blame.

Happy book birthday!

I’ll admit I was a little nervous about this one. I LOVED the first two books in the series, Semi-Charmed and Semi-Human. But a huge part of the appeal of those books for me was Harper as a leading lady. She’s snarky and quirky and fun. I wasn’t sure I’d feel the same way about Mischa, who quite frankly, kinda pissed me off in the last book. But thankfully, my concerns were completely unfounded. Always a risk to shift MC's in a series - Mischa and Hunter take the lead (Harper & Riddick do the secondary grunt work this time). Mischa is kind of a hot mess, but thankfully knows she is and is seeking help to get herself together. Hunter is just hot. He pursues her, carefully, since she's all kinds of prickly - of course circumstance throw these two together, there is tension, action, and plenty of witty dialogue that I have come to associate with this author/series.

Laughs and love - a great addition to the series.

I waited FOREVER for this book...at least it seemed that way. I couldn't wait to read Mischa and Hunter's story! True to the author's form, I giggled my way through this story, when I wasn't sighing over the leading man. I missed Mischa's spunk a bit in this one, as she spent the story struggling with her new vampirism and trying to get Hunter to forgive her for hating him, but I understand her character had to evolve. If you like strong heroines, alpha male leading men (who would do anything for their ladies), hot love scenes, and lots of humor, I highly recommend it!

Now, I'll go back to waiting for the next book...lol.

Mischa has redeemed herself!! ☺

I wasn't sure if I could like Mischa after all she put Hunter through; but she managed to redeem herself and finally become the woman (dead or alive) that she was meant to be. Sorry that I have until 2017 for Lucas's story.

This was a fun book. Think Rock Chick but with supernaturals.

What I enjoyed:
* Loved seeing Harper and Riddick again
* The interaction between Harper and anyone is hilarious
* I'm glad Mischa and Hunter finally started communicating after Mischa finally stopped running away from herself and her problems
* The idea of a vampire beauty pageant is different. I love that they have events like bench pressing weight and throwing a volunteer human.

What could have been better:
* I really wanted Hunter to do something about that abysmal prison
* The mystery was pretty weak

I usually don't like it when authors write about ancillary characters. However, this book really grabbed me from page one and made me laugh out loud more than once. What a hoot! I liked it better than the first two and I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Ms. Jordan, I follow you on goodreads. I actually read some of the books you read based on your reviews. I write this in aid of you stepping up the self promotion. My point is, you're not on my ignore list and I missed seeing when this book came out!? These books are too much fun to miss.

Harper Hall Investigations is at it again in "Semi-Twisted" but this time Harper is sitting on the sidelines barking out orders because she is eight months pregnant. This time Leon, Benny, Mischa, Riddick and Harper are all working together. Mischaracterized is struggling with her new life as a vampire and she has had no contact with Hunter since he has been in prison. Hunter is feeling like it is time to move on and try to forget Mischaracterized.

On the day Harper takes a job trying to locate missing vampire beauty pageant contestants, Hunter is released from prison. When Mischaracterized goes out with her shrink and gets drunk she doesn't realize that her refusal to drink blood from a human has caused her to become seriously ill from alcohol. When Harper calls Riddick to help get the lushes home Riddick realizes Mischa is in trouble. So, he calls Hunter for help. When Hunter and Mischa see each other fires ignite and boy the flames are high.

Harper uses Mischa to enter the beauty pageant in order to flush out the kidnapper. In addition, she enlists the aid of none other than her mother, Tina. Talk about scary! As they ferret out the clues, RIddick is having one check of a time keeping Harper on the bed rest her doctor has ordered. The only way he has an modicum of a chance is if he keeps her in stock with donuts and cheesy tots.

This read was fast paced and full of awesome moments of comedic levity. The mystery and intrigue wasn't bad either. If you haven't checked out this serious, you definitely should put it on your to read list. it really is a good read!

“Semi-Twisted”, third in the 'Harper Hall Investigations', is firmly centred on Mischa and Hunter ('bout time!)
There's still a lot of space left for Harper even though she is a lot less ambulatory as she reaches the end of her pregnancy.
Hunter loves Mischa without any doubt but, as her psychiatrist points, out Mischa is a 'runner' when her emotions are involved.
She's going to have to do something she's never tried before, go with her emotions.
In the meantime she's entered in the Miss Eternity vampire beauty pageant to try and find out why some of the entrants have gone missing.
The plot is very much secondary until close to the end, but it does provide a way for Hunter to be around her most of the time.
The solution is found in short order and, of course, leads to a violent climax.
It is very definitely written to a formula (perhaps it is time to work on a new one) but it is very readable nonetheless.
3.5 Stars, raised to 4 Stars.

After reading Semi-Human i binge read this book!! Sleep?? Who needs sleep?? This is Mischa and Hunters story, and yep i am going to admit it, i so wanted to throat punch Mischa!! Damn that girl has her head and heart twisted! In saying that though, Mischa did redeem herself and untwist the two. Hunter......sigh....oh wow.....he is sooo yummy!! Their journey was not an easy one, but it was one that i could not put down!!
With Harper, Noah and the crew popping in throughout the book, and hilarious banter and fantastic "love" advice, i dare you not to laugh or smile like a loon while reading this book!! Do yourself a favour though and start with Semi-Charmed then Semi-Human before embarking on this journey....after all why would you want to deprive yourself of giggles??!!

An all around excellent series and book

I don't care to deviate from the main characters in most series but this couple was too good to pass up. Mid ha and Hunter have been destine to happen for decades and it was such a good story! Harper and Riddick were in this quite a it and I must say, the recliner and Harper had to be the funniest thing in a long time. A must read!

Isabel Jordan is a great, consistent author. She delivers the laughs, witty dialogue, an interesting plot line and lets not forget the steamy romance side of things - all there. While this offering features different leads, Misha's turn this time. Harper et al remain on hand to help and provide support.
Clever. Fun. An enjoyable tale, populated by excellent characters.

Finally we get to Mischa and Hunter. The former watcher and current new vampire is helping out her very pregnant bestie, Harper, with a case at a vampire beauty pageant. Hunter, newly released from prison, helps out too. I liked how they handled their issues like adults. We still got a good amount of drama, comedy, romance, and snark.

Good continuance of the others in the series

While you can read this book as a stand alone, it would make more sense if you didn't. You learn about Mischa and Hunter in the previous books. This one was almost as enjoyable as the previous ones. I did get pulled out slightly due to misspellings, but there aren't so many that someone would normally get pulled out of the story.

This was a cute and funny story. I love all of the characters. They’ve just enough backstory to make them interesting, but it doesn’t’ bog down the story as a whole. There is just enough humor, seriousness, sexy times, and suspense to make it a great all around sort of read.
