Storm and Silence #3

Silence is Golden

Silent. Cold. Chiselled perfection. That is Rikkard Ambrose, the most powerful business mogul in Great Britain.

Free-spirited. Fiery. Definitely NOT attracted to the aforementioned business mogul. That is Lilly Linton, his personal secretary and secret weapon.

The two have been playing a cat and mouse game for months. So far, Lilly has been able to fight down and deny her attraction to Mr Ambrose. But what happens when suddenly, the dark secrets of his past begin to surface and they are forced to go on a perilous journey into the South-American jungle? A journey they can only survive if they band together?

Robert Thier

Robert Thier is a German historian, lover of old books and award-winning writer, whose novels and stories encompass the historical, satirical, and fantastical. For the way he manages to make the past come alive, as if he himself lived as a medieval knight, his inventive fans have given him the nickname “Sir Rob.” All of his stories are characterized by his very own brand of humor that has gained him a diverse readership ranging from teenagers to retired grandmothers.

For Robert, becoming a writer followed naturally from his interest in history. “In Germany,” he says, “we use the same word for story and history. And I've always loved the one as much as the other. Becoming a storyteller, a writer, is what I've always wanted.”

Besides writing and researching in dusty old archives, on the lookout for a mystery to put into his next story, Robert enjoys classical music and long walks in the country. The helmet you see in the picture he does not wear because he is a cycling enthusiast, but to protect his literary skull in which a bone has been missing from birth. Robert lives in the south of Germany in a small village between the three Emperor Mountains.

August 8, 2016: know this book just started but I'm already loving it, every Wednesday I wait until about 4 in the morning for the Radish update and even Wattpad to give the last chapters of In the Eye of the Storm a star. The book is worth the sleepless nights. Like I've said about the other two: a beautiful piece of literature.
I have the paperbacks, a shame book 2 wasn't long, but I still loved it. I hope Sir Rob is good on his word and makes this a longer book.
December 9, 2016: just 4 months after my first review. I didn't know how Sir Rob could make it better, but he just outdid himself! "You're my little Ifrit, how could I possibly say no?" I fell in love right there, thank you very much Sir Rob.

WARNING! Do not sneakily read this book on work. The boss will bust you because the is NO WAY you will be able to stop yourself from laughing at certain parts. I really love how these books are written, and Ambrose is such an incredible character. I truly adore Lilly as well, with her high spirit and "charming personality". I guess that's a way of putting it? Really hope there will be much more to see of them. They definitely brighten up my day, and if you need to brighten up your's this is most certainly the book for just that.

What a let down. Seriously. I really loved Storm and Silence and most of In the Eye of The Storm (didn't really like how OOC Lilly was at the ending half) but this is just terrible. The plot...well what plot really? I mean, it started off with one, but then it just became about Lilly and Ambrose in the jungle acting like horny teenagers. Especially Lilly. These characters were once so unique and lovable and now they are just completely different and not in a good way. This book was like reading bad fanfiction and every week I endured the progressively worse chapters until I just gave up last week.

Sir Rob is clearly rushing through it now and did not develop Lilly and Ambrose's relationship well. The intensity of their lust came out of nowhere and I don't even feel like I'm reading something that takes place in the 1800s anymore. Lilly's constant ranting is BEYOND repetitive and yes we get it. Mr Ambrose is cold. He's fucking chiseled. He is stone. He is marble. He has no physical flaws and is perfect. He is a chivalrous bastard, a pig, because all men are scum. I get it. Literally every other paragraph has to describe "Mr. Rikkard Ambrose" as flawless and hot or how much Lilly can't stand him. I've been reading those lines since the first fucking book.

The plot is messy and the dangerous adventures are anti climactic because our protagonists can miraculously get out of absolutely everything because the author says so. Seriously, thrown in prison by a bunch of Brazilian soldiers who plan to torture information out of you? Haha it's ok, they're not actually threatening, they're clumsy. Just use cheesy humor to talk your way out of it. And then of course Mr. Rikkard Ambrose can easily threaten like 50 armed men and get away with it because nothing bad can ever happen to him. It's just...so badly written and cheesy. It was not like this in the first two books where the danger actually felt like a real threat and a challenge.

I felt like in the second book, the romance was starting to build a little bit, even though Ambrose and Lilly's characters were problematic, it made sense for it to be slow-burn because of the way they were. But now, it's as if Sir Rob realizes that this series is supposed to be a romance and it's ending soon so he needs to get them together somehow. So he sticks them in the jungle and makes Lilly take off all her clothes, rant about feminism while chasing Ambrose around like a dog in heat. And then there's Ambrose who continues to insist how inferior women are, and that's getting ultra annoying. I'm seriously questioning why Lilly, being the "feminist" she is, would be attracted to a man like Ambrose? Like I understood it in the first two books when she was getting glimpses of the layers underneath but now the author has just reverted him back to a total dick who after all they've been through together, he has the nerve to continue bad mouthing women.

The relationship is written like bad porn minus the porn. Everything is cliche and not true to the characters. None of it was developed correctly or at all. Lilly is a virgin and she's said herself before in book 2 that she doesn't know a lot about sex and has always been repulsed or nervous or curious about stuff involving anything romantic or sexual. That's been her character and for a while she'd been changing realistically and opening up a bit more.

Yet in this book she's suddenly getting naked at every chance and acting like the most experienced virgin ever. And still manages to squeeze in her anti men/feminist rants along with how oogling hot Ambrose is. Just because a character is supposed to change throughout the story doesn't mean...becoming completely unbelievable.

Pretty much every chapter was Lilly and Ambrose banter, making out, fending off non challenging bad guys and then making out again 2 seconds later and then Lilly getting angry at Ambrose for no reason except his gender. There was no other plot development or romance. Just lust.

I hate to end it with this stereotype but it's so obvious it's screaming at me...this is definitely something a white man wrote, and Sir Rob is just that. It's hard to explain everything because there's so much wrong with it so if you want you can skim through the book on Wattpad and see for yourselves. I will not be continuing this series or any other books for it because it's just dragging out at this point.

3.5 stars rounded down

My expressions while reading this book, because, unlike Rikkard Ambrose, I'm human:

In this book, everyone contributed a small volume towards the betterment of our society by-

Lilly Linton: Being seductive and horny 24 x 7

Rikkard Ambrose:
Vol 1- The key to starting wars and becoming a criminal mastermind
Vol 2- Trying to resist temptation and failing miserably (emphasis on failing)

Karim: Trying to atone for inevitable sins and third-wheeling

The South American Tribes: Playing pimps matchmakers to get it going between Lilly and Dickard(three guesses to who this is)

Me: The art to not banging your head on a wall 101

On the other hand I'm disappointed by the absolute zero character development since book 2, the only development in this book was in their physical relationship plus I seriously don't think that any person can be as 'unemotional' and/or unfazed as Ambrose. I want the further books to show how he breaks out of the shell he hides in while not actually changing who he is as a person - I don't want him to change but I want his character to be more forthcoming and expressive. Period.

PS: This time Lilly actually said these exact words, I'm not even kidding:

I've read the books so far and I must say I enjoyed all the funny banter however I find the romance story to be dragging at this stage, there is no evolution on either of the characters, after turning page after page I found out much too little about the main character Mr Ambrose.
Lily's prospect husbands & marriage arrangements and the balls she kept attending didn't bring anything new to the story.
I mean come on now, after everything that happened in Egypt the writer brings the story back to square one...highly probable, Mr Rob,even for a book.
The story is definitely stalling from my POV and it looks as if there will be many many other books coming up in which the author will probably throw a bone here and there and carry on with the banter.
The romance story line might be the slowest building in the history of books and it's starting to run thin.
I might test my patience and finish this book but it would take a huge turn of events by the time I finish it to make me read another from this series.

Take one determined and resourceful feminist and an unemotional, power-hungry man - drop them into stressful situations, rinse and repeat. What do you get? A fantastic series of stories that will make you smile and laugh.

“Nobody could say nothing like Mr Ambrose.”

After the hilariously fitting ending to In the Eye of the Storm, I wasn’t quite sure where Robert Their would take us in the delightful journey of Lilly Linton and Mr. Ambrose. How could life just go back to normal after everything they had gone through?

“Why exactly are you late, Mr Linton?’
‘I got arrested.”

Silence is Golden started off on such a hilarious note that I stopped wondering what would happen next and instead settled in to enjoy the ride. Lilly may have temporarily been off the hook while she was in the desert with Mr. Ambrose, but her luck ran out as soon as she got home and her aunt got her hands on her.

“Fiancé?’ he whispered.
‘Temporary!’ I whispered back.
‘Since when is there such a thing as a temporary fiancé?’
‘Since I invented it! Now shut up!”

No longer roaming the earth, Lilly seemed no less in danger with having to deal with pesky suiters and an accidental fiancé. So what’s a girl to do? Well… manipulate her boss into going treasure hunting in South America, of course.

“Adequate.’
Blast him! Would it kill him to say ‘Good work’ just once in his bloody life?

I really loved where the author took the story. Lilly, ever the feminist, truly struggled in this story between what her emotions and hormones were trying to scream at her and what her brain had resolved for her life’s path to be. Poor Mr. Ambrose didn’t stand a chance.

The ending set the stage for what I’m sure is going to be a great next-instalment in this story. Can’t wait!!

Sir Rob is probably the best Wattpad author that I have ever read from. Waiting for new chapters to come out is painful because you have to wait an entire week! But I must say that week apart grows my love for the book. I have never met a character like Lilly before. One who is so adamant that love doesn't exist. Like this book is THE BEST!!!!! Now I'm just rambling but you get the gist! (haha that rhymed!)

Meh!
I mean first of all these guys were in the 1800's right? But this lady traipses through Egypt with a man she is not married to and comes home like she just went to the market with no guilt because magic word 'she is a feminist.' Let's not forget that the only thing feminist about her is the fact that she keeps throwing the word around.
Otherwise, she is throwing the words 'yes sir' left, right and center and practically begging the guy to speak to her. The other issue is this guy is rich but will rather eat free bread and water. There is no explanation about why this is so. Give us something about these characters at least. (character development they call it) In three book there is zilch characters growth.

Then back to this irritating 'pseudo-feminist' who above all is ungrateful! She seems to loathe her aunt and from all appearances, the aunt is just someone who seems to care for them more than the rich uncle with a room full of gold. The writing is superb. Robert, you are a superb writer, it is the only reason I keep going back to the books. (hoping things change and finding out they remain the same) Just get a professional editor who will stay your hand when you are tempted to ramble on (and a woman at that) and to help with the love scenes. Three books in and we have been left hanging as to whether these weird love dance of theirs will ever come to an end. *Rolls eyes*
Great potential is the operative word here.
*end of rant*

I really liked book number 1; number 2 was so so and I could understand where it was going. Book 3 so far reads like fan fiction and not the good kind... the author is rushing, too many plot holes, characters acting well, not like themselves. I'm not sure I can bring myself to read it anymore. I most definitely will not be supporting the author on this book if it ever publishes in hard copy as I had with book 1&2. The series is now unsatisfactory (for me at least)

I don’t know what it is about this series. It’s frustrating, but addictive.
description/

Book 3 of Storm and Silence is my least favorite of the series. I was expecting more from it – I have been on this journey for three books, give me more. Also, I felt like some of the story was disjointed. Like Sir Rob was piecing it together as he went along.

Some sections were still funny and it was great to read about South America during that time. However, I wanted more. More from the characters, more from the plot, etc.

Wednesday is the highlight of my week because I know that there is going to be an update. Then by Thursday I hate myself because I read it too quickly and now have to wait an entire week for the next update! This book is brilliant and Wonderfull and I love it to bits !!

It was funny and interesting at some parts, but a little out of character in others. Yes I did enjoy Lilly and Mr. Ambrose's adventure in the wilderness, but some parts actually annoyed me.

The next book better bring the first book's fierce spirit back!

Sir Rob, you seriously slay me!

Warning, this is going to be one giant gushfest.

I love this series! So much! It’s like every book gets better and better, and the first book was already spectacular! I’ve given every book 5 stars, but each one has surpassed the previous so Silence is Golden is really 7 stars! Seven glorious stars! This whole paragraph required exclamation points! What’s happening to me!?

Okay, deep breath so I can try to explain why more people need to read this. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I do want to entice anyone who’s reading this review to pick up this series. To make sure I keep all the secrets, my review will be on the series as a whole rather than on what transpires in this specific book.

The entire Storm and Silence series is breathtaking. Whatever minor issues I may have had in the beginning, they just don’t exist anymore. Silence is Golden was pretty gosh darn perfect. It’s historical, with enough accuracy to be believable, but it also has a relateable heroine for us modern readers. It’s a comedic series with characters that find themselves in the most ridiculous situations, but in the funniest way. Sure, sometimes their antics are silly, but that’s what comedy is all about. Each installment’s plot is entertaining, but the real heart of the story is the delicious relationship between the two main characters, Lilly Linton and Rikkard Ambrose.

I know I’ve said it a million times. You’re probably tired of me preaching it, but the best love stories develop slowly! For those who agree, read this series! The romance between Lilly and Ambrose is the definition of slow burn! It’s perfectly paced, with each book cranking up the heat to the next level. It’s so much fun to read them progressively falling in love, especially when it’s obvious they don’t want to. The high levels of anticipation makes me feel like I’m losing my mind, in the best possible way.

I’m pretty much in love Ambrose myself, he’s the epitome of swoon worthy, so I totally get why Lilly is unable to resist. When it feels like a man is falling in love with someone for being bold, brave, and intelligent (rather than the physical attributes) you can’t help but adore him!

I hear Silence Breaking, book 4, is going to be the last one. I could read it right now, chapter by chapter on Radish, but I think I prefer waiting for publication so I can read the whole book in one sitting. (Which is exactly what I did with Silence is Golden. I read it all in one sitting.)

I should probably give my heart time to calm down anyway, because if Silence Breaking is better than Silence is Golden, following the pattern, I’ll probably combust. Man, I’m really really looking forward to that!

Thank you to Robert Thier for providing a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Mwah. Bellissimo.

3.5 stars rounded up because. This never gets old. The heroine goes a bit overboard with her lecherous proclivities but hey! Fun!

I was a feminist, bloody hell! I should have got this annoying habit of plastering my lips to those of my chauvinistic employer out of my system by now! Even if I wanted anything to do with men -which I most definitely absolutely and totally did not, no, never, thank you very much for not bothering me with it and going to hell right now! -he and I were about as well-suited to each other as a Siberian tiger and a firebird!

So today I reflected upon my previous review of this book that I had written a few days ago – in the middle of night, all bleary eyed and everything, and realised it was pretty crap. So well, I decided to start over from scratch.

~ 3.75 stars ~

About two years ago I fell in love with Storm & Silence ( the first book ) so so bad, I messed up my grades and everything because of it. But the point being : The book was so good . So was the second book ( though I didn't enjoy it as much as the first but still 5 stars worthy). So imagine my excitement when the third came out. Excitement is too weak a word for what I felt. But I suppose you get the idea.

Well, sadly, I couldn't enjoy this one as much as the first two instalments. It was no where near in the league of the first one. BUT, ( very big but ) I really really enjoyed this one as well. It's impossible to not like anything written by Sir Rob. He is just too good with his witty dialogues and gobsmacking, flabbergasting humour. I wanted to give it 4 stars which I did but then again, I didn't feel like those four stars after finishing the book. 3 would be way too less or even 3.5 for that matter,so I settled for 3.75.

See, what went wrong is that I feel the book had so much more potential with how the plot was going ( which was really great ) that what it managed to offer. The start was amazing and very promising with the whole adventure to the jungle thing. Though I'll admit I didn't want them to be travelling in the whole book like they did in the previous one. I was desperately yearning to see some of the first instalment – London, the hilarious exchanges in the workplace and balls and everything.
But that was fine. As long as I got to see more of my Lilly and Mr. Ambrose, everything was fine.

This series had the SLOWEST of the slow burns in the first two books which was so precious for me ( I am really into the slow burn thing ) so when things finally strayed to get heated up in here, I got really excited. Because Ambrose and Lilly are easily one of the best pairs I have read about. But then, all of a sudden, the whole action thing in the romance department got a little dragged. And I was so sad, because their relationship is so golden to me, I didn't want to get bored of it.
Mind you, I wasn't bored of their relationship though. I'll never get bored of that. It was the newly found lust thing which could have been written so well but got a little too much. At one point, every single chapter was about tearing clothes and the whole point of the plot just fell short.

But again, I really liked reading this. Lilly is everything I want in an MC. She is literally my queen with that sass and especially humour . You know, humour makes me weak. I sometimes forget she is only nineteen, in my mind she automatically becomes 25 or something but then this series is based on the Victorian era so that was a perfect age for a girl to marry and bla bla, so yeah. I don't even have to talk about Mr. Ambrose since I have already gushed quite a lot about him in my reviews of the previous books.

Lastly, I would really like to comment on Sir Rob's research skills. First of all, English is not even his first language. But his style of writing, especially the dialogues in the Victorian tongue and all those facts... man, he is really good at his homework.

(Interim Review) I absolutely loved the first and second books but feel a little let down so far (I still have hope) with this one. I love that Lilly is a do what she wants type of girl but I still feel that even the tough girls want an even tougher guy behind them (which Mr. Ambrose is). I find the fact that Lilly is the aggressor in most of the scenes not true to their relationship or how I envisioned their relationship. I get trying to coax him info "feeling" a little teasing here and there yes but her attitude is too take me now versus come and get me. Stolen kisses and heated touches are what drew me to them and in the end I want them together but it seems she is too easy. Like she lost the I don't need a man attitude.
(Finished)
Still disappointed in the lack of push and pull / heated tension in this book as it was in the first two. I am of course still on the edge of my seat to see what will happen next though. I know that the relationship needed to develop I just wish it didn't change Lilly's overall demeanor. I am still in favor of Mr. Ambrose being the aggressor but am anxious to see how the author decides to enhance their relationship.

I've been reading these books since the beginning and I've always loved them however I find that this book has changed my opinion of the series. The book is currently in chapter 41 and let me tell you THERE IS NO PLOT DEVELOPMENT. I love the relationship between the two main characters but I'm sick and tired of all this extra stuff. Most of the events happening don't even further the plot line which makes me wonder if the author is just making it up as he goes. AND he just announced another one?!! He's just milking the story for all its got. I'm currently debating whether or not I'll read the next book but I hope that it's better than this one.
