USA Today Bestselling Author, storyteller and cheeky wench, SUZAN TISDALE lives in the Midwest with her verra handsome carpenter husband. All but one of her children have left the nest. Her pets consist of dust bunnies and a dozen poodle-sized, backyard-dwelling groundhogs – all of which run as free and unrestrained as the voices in her head. And she doesn’t own a single pair of yoga pants, much to the shock and horror of her fellow authors. She prefers to write in her pajamas.
Suzan writes Scottish historical romance/fiction, with honorable and perfectly imperfect heroes and strong, feisty heroines. And bad guys she kills off in delightfully wicked ways.
She published her first novel, Laiden’s Daughter, in December, 2011, as a gift for her mother. That one book started a journey which has led to more than twenty published titles. To date, she has sold more than 750,000 copies of her books around the world. They have been translated into Italian, French, German, and Spanish.

God I love Suzan Tisdale's books. They are so addictive, I find I can't help but read them all. My two favorites so far are Ian's Rose and Frederick's Queen. Although I really loved Wee William's woman too. Suzan Tisdale has a way of writing beautiful, at times dark and emotional books that captivate me for hours. Her books are lower on the sexual side but high in romance. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!

Susan's Tisdale's Ian's Rose is a wonderful Scottish romance. It begins where "Frederick's Queen" leaves off. It reintroduces Frederick, Aggie and their two children and Aggie meeting her birth father, Douglas who leaves her an inheritance of land and a Keep that is desperately in need of repair.

Ian Mackintosh is the second son of the Mackintosh Clan. He is considered quite the lady's man, however he risks his heart when he meets Rose, a widow, while at the McLaren Keep. After knowing her for one year, he is head over heels in love with her. He proposes to her but before she answers him, she tells him of a secret she has kept since her first marrage to an honorable man of the McLaren Clan. Rose is unable to carry her pregnancies beyond three months and is not sure she could go through losing another child should Ian want children of his own. Knowing that he will never become Chief and inherit his own keep, Ian still wants to marry her and she commits to the engagement. After a few months, Ian begins to have second thoughts. He knows he can never offer Rose the things that he believes she would want of a wife, so he breaks off his engagement to her. She is devastated but still somewhat hopeful.

Having a night in his cups, he finds himself in bed with Rose and she tricks him into believing that they had wed. She carries on this farce until Ian realizes that he wants the marriage to work. Unfortunately, Rose comes clean that they are not married because she does not want anything to come between them in their marriage. After hearing her confession, Ian grows angry and marches her in protest to the priest to officially get married while the Clan looks on. After only one day of truly being married, Ian's brother and wife approach the newlyweds and asks them to rebuild the McLaren Keep and Clan that would evently be given to their son and daughter when they come of age. Ian and Rose are a little hesitant but agree to the request. When Ian and Rose arrive at the the ruined, they realized that it was not as easy as they expected and much time consuming to rebuild it back to form. The Keep was rebuilt and thinking all was in order, Rose learns that she is pregnant and has progressed past the three month period. She and Ian are excited and have hope that the child will live until birth.

Unfortunately, their happiness comes with danger. A rival Chieftan of the Bowie Clan, and enemy long thought dead, returns and believes that he can steal and take what he wants...even Ian's Rose. He is assisted by a member of the McLaren's clan...a betrayal to Ian. While on a hunting expedition, Rose is kidnapped by his enemy and randsomed for the money that is believed to be found when the Clan left the McLaren Keep. Rose is eventually rescued by Ian and the baby unharmed.

My thoughts: The books was a very good read. I fell in love with the characters and the plot. I loved how the story flowed but wished for a better epilogue...i.e., Rose having the baby and not just ending with Ian and Rose knowing that they both are safe. Ian and Rose worked through alot of differences and the banter between the two was cute. The story has its tender moments that cause me teary eyes and heartfelt empathy.

I recommend the read/listen as it has its suspenseful, twists and intriguing parts.

Ian's Rose by Suzan Tisdale
Genre assessment: Adult, Historical, Humor & Comedy, Romance, Suspense.
4.5 Stars.

There was a small section about midway that lagged just a bit. It was enough to cost the story half a star. Since I round down at the .5 mark, instead of up, it made this 4 stars. That is the ONLY negative I found for this story.

Beautifully and extremely well written Scottish brogue. This puts you in the proper mind frame of where and when the characters are. It makes the characters come alive and gives the world build depth.

The flow is smooth and fluid.

It starts off with a teaser of suspense that the story will build on.
There is so much well placed humor you find yourself laughing out loud. Just to give you a taste, here is a scene where Fredrick has just beat the snot out of his brother Ian (who is drunk) and deposited him in front of Rose.

“He must kill me,” Ian told her.
“He must keep his word because I did no’ keep mine.”.....
..... “Why did ye feel the need to,” she stumbled for the right words. “To beat him senseless?”
“Someone had to.”
“Frederick be the most honorable man,” Ian chimed in.

The interaction between the two main characters, Rose and Ian, is funny and delightful. They will have you laughing and cringing. Both are great characters.

There are characters from previous books included in this story. Not only do they add depth, but they make you want to read their stories, too. You don't have to read them to enjoy this story. You just want to.

The intimate scenes between the two main characters are done with taste and feeling.
The suspense builds to a excellent crescendo.
There is no cliffhanger, as this is a stand-alone, even though the characters show up in other books.

As you can see, I loved it. Maybe I should have given it 5 stars, but I am going to stick to my 4.5.

Ooooooo loved it!!!!!!!

I loved Ian's Rose, just like all of the other Suzan Tisdale books, it's a sweeping vividly colored tale of beautiful wondrous highs and edge of seat battles and lows. You feel like you are a spectator in the story and never want to leave the friends you find there. I can't wait for the next book, like always.

**Audible read**

I won't lie, I had not heard of Suzan Tisdale before all this #Cockygate stuff erupted a few months ago, but after watching her live videos, I knew that this was a lady that I needed to support, so picked up a few books and audiobooks for my collection.

I am so glad I came across her and her books.

I am a huge fan of the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon, so scottish historical books - let me at them.

Even though this is book one in this series, I get the feeling that it connects to other series somewhere along the way? But this did not make this one hard to understand.

I enjoyed Ian and Rose's story, the complexities of their relationships, the relationships between clans.

This book has whetted my appetite for more m/f historicals, and I will definitely be reading more of Suzan Tisdale's works.

Ian's Rose pretty much takes off where book one ended. Frederick and Aggie have just given birth to a son, Aggie meets her birth father and the man that loved her mother for the first time (and yes so sweet). Ian and Rose have known each other for over a year and love each other and Ian proposes and Rose accepts. But then Rose reveals a secret that she is unable to carry a child to term, and Ian is a younger son and is worried that he isn't good enough for Rose and breaks their engagement.

Rose is a young woman that is a widow, she was married to a wonderful man but she had three miscarriages and doesn't know if she could go through with losing another child. She knows that Ian has quite the reputation with the ladies, but when he convinces her that he loves her and wants to marry her she takes a risk to trust him and then he breaks her heart. But when he ends up being drunk and they "almost" marry, meaning Ian collapses from drink right before he says his vows but later realizes his mistake and Rose forces him to see that he needs to fight for them just like he is fights in battles...with all his strength and with his heart and soul. And now once they are married for good, Frederick and Aggie ask that they rebuild the McLaren keep and the clan so that one day their son can take over when he is ready.

But things aren't as easy as they expected to rebuild the keep, the old one having been burned by Aggie's father in the book one. But they have funds that Ian and Rose found to rebuild the keep to its former glory and strengthen the clan. And just when Rose and Ian have their life in order, keeping order in the clan, building a new keep and having a united clan, and Rose is pregnant with their child and is past her third month giving them hope that they may have a child. But they have an enemy, an enemy they thought was dead, that seeks the money they found. And while Ian was gone out hunting, their clan was betrayed by one of their own, some of their people slaughtered and Ian's Rose has been kidnapped for ransom by the Bowie Clan.

This wasn't quite as good as book one, however I fell in love with this story. Now this is where I recommend reading "Frederick's Queen" first, because this book takes off right after Frederick and Aggie's story. Where we have already seen Ian and Rose's romance blossom a bit, but this is the story where their love is truly tested. I actually loved the way that this story flowed. The events that follow are engaging and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Its a normal length story, so not quite as long as book one. But I found it to be so wonderful to read for sure. We also see these two work through their differences and become united even when they are seperated and they gain a new ally, one they don't expect. And we get some more fun times with Frederick and Aggie and their 9 year old son (who honestly is my favorite secondary character other than Frederick and Ian's father who is a hoot)

Also currently this book is free on Amazon, so go GRAB it!!Ian's Rose pretty much takes off where book one ended. Ian‰Ûªs Rose is a beautiful Highland love story. It is a fast-paced story that will make you laugh, cry, and fume.

As soon as we are reminded of the circumstances that brought our hero and heroine together, Ian declares he is unworthy of Rose and breaks their betrothal. What follows is a march to the altar that will have you laughing all the way.

A day after their wedding, Ian agrees to become the Chief of the McLaren clan. Although these lands are Aggie‰Ûªs through her mother, and she and Frederick had planned to rebuild them, they have decided to go to the lands hers through her newly discovered true father, Douglas Carruthers. Ian and Rose will rebuild the McLaren clan, the keep, and the lands as a legacy for Ailrig, Aggie‰Ûªs son.

The journey and the rebuilding project are hard, rewarding work. Despite some setbacks, everything seems to be coming along. But, evil is afoot. All hell breaks out when a neighboring clan chief has the keep attacked and Rose kidnapped. Who has her? Why was she taken? How will Ian get her back?

This is a cleverly written book with a strong hero and heroine, great secondary characters (I really liked Brogan and Leona), a vile villain, and a surprise rescuer(s). Don‰Ûªt miss this one. You will love it!

What a great story! I loved watching Ian and Rose's love unfold as they butted heads, finally wed and worked to rebuild McLaren keep. Their love for each other was intense and all consuming. I was delighted to read about Aggie meeting her blood father, Douglas Carruthers, and them getting to know each other. I thought the secondary characters were wonderful too, Leona, Rodrick, Brogan and Alec. I was hoping for a romance to blossom for Leona and thought maybe she would fall in love with Rodrick or Brogan, but the moment handsome and kind Alec Bowie entered the picture and she helped him save lives, I knew what the next book would be about. I can't wait for The Bowie Bride and to read Alec and Leona's story. Suzan Tisdale is now one of my favorite authors, I've read many of her books and loved each one.

DNF at 22% - Book 1 and supposed to be a standalone but I had no idea what was going on.

Why were these two in love? What sort of connection was there?

The "sex" scene (wedding night) stopped abruptly at foreplay so I didn't even get that bit of connection to go on.

Writing was odd, lots of head jumping and scenes ending without explaination and vague references to what I assume happened in a previous book.

Nah.

Ian Mackintosh loves Rose McLaren with all his heart. He can't imagine life without her. Their romance is off to a rocky start when he decides to break his secret troth because he can't give Rose material goods. This romance explodes with passion and drama that left me wanting more. I love it. Rose is so feisty and full of life. She's more than a match for this Highland warrior. Now they face a new challenge when they go to McLaren lands where he'll be Chief until ten year old Ailrig, Aggie's son, comes of age. Ian is ready but is Rose? These characters are so full of life that they leap off the page. I was quickly pulled into their adventure. Suzan Tisdale writes a story that is filled with passion, true love and treachery. The author shows the beauty and harshness that her characters face as they build a new stronghold as well as the death and betrayal that they endure brought on by greed and hate. This is an amazing story that is the start of a new series. I felt as if I were in the center of the action. I loved Ian. His fierce pride and stubbornness is tempered by his gentleness and caring for Rose. I love the setting, the dialogue and the fast moving storyline. I'm looking forward to the next release.

Book One of the Macintoshes & McLarens Ian's Rose......
Ian's Rose Is now my favorite book By Suzan Tisdale, I was given an advance copy to write an honest review
This is the story of Rose true Friend to Aggi & Ian brother to Frederick from Frederick's Queen NOT necessary to read Frederick's Queen but so much better if you did..( Ian's Rose can be read as a stand Alone)
It has every thing a book should have from tender moments that bring tears to your eyes with either joy or sadness, Conflict between Clans , A as suzan call's her a feisty wench, Rose Who won't take any guff from anyone not afraid to put that person in his or her place , ( My kind of Lass ) Ian who was not ready for commitment, Upon first site of rose loved her to much to deign his heart Also to prove he was the right man that could bring a clan back together.it had some brilliant secondary Character's who I know I am going to enjoy reading about As Ian's Rose opened the door for many books to come.
Well Done Suzan Tisdale WELL DONE!

Loved this book from beginning to end! Love Rose's feisty spirit..Ian's intense and undying love for her, and the new clan he takes over that opens his eyes to "good" people who love Rose as much as any Laird's wife can be loved & respected.

Toss in a little bit of mystery with a village woman who is quirky and some bad guys, the story keeps you turning the page. I loved the entire story, as I do with all of Susan Tisdale's reads!

Four pages in and I keep slipping into Irish instead of Scots. The accent isn’t right. It’s overdone and false so I’m dropping out right now. A note to authors who try to write a Scottish accent - don’t labour it. The odd regional word, a soft burr, certainly not ‘me’ for ‘my’ ..it should be ‘mah’. Better still, just use the occasional ‘lass’. That’s all that's needed sometimes.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

I loved this emotional, multi-layered tale of a love which withstands Ian’s self-doubt, belief in his unworthiness, and his stubborn-headed decision to stay clear of Rose. Outside danger threatens to shred their new understanding and new beginning.

Rose knows she loves Ian, but also knows she can’t give him children, for she is unable to carry beyond her 3rd month. How can a man love a woman enough to forego any hope of bairns? Rose is a feisty, spirited woman, passionate in nature and deeply in love with Ian. A woman no finer.

The first scene sets the tone of Ian’s love. Narrator Brad Wills uses a soft intimate and loving tone in the first dialogue between the two. A secret betrothal is made between the two and a month later Ian breaks the betrothal sending Rose into a spiraling depression edged with lots of anger.

Ian’s reasoning is simple. He can’t offer Rose the kind of life she should have—no large keep or pretty clothes. He is but a warrior and that’s all he’s good at, his justification for his actions. Luckily, Rose is given solace by her best friend, Aggie, wife to Ian’s brother Frederick, who also has a strong will.

We are privy to some really cute scenes when Rose doesn’t exactly tell the truth. These discussion are difficult for Ian and Rose, but, truthfully, they were fun to listen to. The narrator entertains us with his flexible impersonations for each character. From an agitated, upsetting Aggie who is unable to control her speech impediment of stuttering, to a more than drunk Ian, drinking his woes of not having Rose – the love of his life, to a maniacal laugh of a man of greed and seemingly unhinged.

Once Ian and Rose cross the hurdle of marriage they are asked by Aggie and Frederick to rebuild a keep Aggie has inherited and have Ian be the interim chief for the keep until Aggie’s son is old enough to be clan chief himself. This is a perfect solution to Ian. He now can provide a life for Rose
They accept this opportunity, although it will be difficult for them. Ian is buoyed and tackles the project with both McLarens and Mackintoshes on the McLaren’s land.

Hardships of building a new keep and forging a strong bond between the Mackintoshes and McLaren is a great burden to both Ian and Rose. The keep is starting to come together. But evil lurks out beyond the temporary walls. Rose is taken hostage by the new chief of the Bowie clan. He’s a man who is used to thieving and stealing from his neighbors. So why not the wife of clan who has money? Greed is a very dark motivator which brings pain and death to many.

Snakes lie within walls. You will love the intrigue. Loyalty can be bought. It can also be gotten by other means. Who is truly loyal?

Friendship is a keep element in this story. The secondary supporting characters who go beyond what is expected are a compelling force in their own right. They shall have their story in book two. Tisdale included the prologue of book two to the listen. I’ll be eagerly reading book two real soon! Book three just released this last week.

I liked both the characters which counts for a lot with me. Ian was a sweet hottie and Rose had a mind of her own and wouldn't be pushed around. The book did need more action though. I've noticed Tisdale tends to get too caught up in minute details, giving names and descriptions to very minor characters and way too much time to describing the building of the keep. Who cares?

What I like about Tisdale's novels is that she writes about likeable heroes and heroines. They are not perfect by any means but they are people I want to find more about.

As always, Suzan Tisdale has created a story full of love , fury and excitement.

Ian's Rose pulled me into the story with the first few words and did not even release me at the end.
I can not wait for the next book in the series to find out if Rose had a girl or boy; if Leona will marry Alex Bowie.
Suzan has made me feel a part of the story and friends with all who live within the pages.
I know all who read this story will love it as much as I.

While I found this book a little bit slow to get into, it actually contained a bit of mystery and a lot of adventure. The story is about the love and romance between Ian and Rose, who had first met in a previous book by the author. The first few chapters deal with painful misunderstandings and hang-ups from their past, that keep them apart. This was the least enjoyable part of the book, as Ian acted completely irrational for reasons that weren't clear to the reader (and perhaps not to Ian.) However, perservering through that part, the book improves. We then get to the heart of the story, where Ian is commissioned as acting chief of his brother Frederick's clan, the MaLaren's. The story then covers the travel to, and rebuilding of the MacLaren lands. The story then gets immersing, as we learn about all the different people in the clan. The latter 3rd of the book is the most interesting, and deals with Rose being kidnapped by a rival clan, and the mechanisms needed to get her back. It's clear there was a traiter involved in her kidnapping, but it's unclear which clansperson betrayed her. Then there is an offer from a traitor in the rival clan, to help get Rose back, but it's unclear how much the rival traitor should be trusted. The overarching theme of the book is deep friendship and love between people.

‘Ian’s Rose,’ is the first book, in The Mackintoshes and McLarens Series, was a great beginning... though there were part that lagged and/or did not provide enough of a storyline. The characters were all brilliantly written and provided enough of an opening for future stories. I rather enjoyed this quick read.

A lot of extra detail and unnecessary information, but it was a great exciting story. The first part of the story when Rose and Ian are "fighting" is quite hilarious.

Rose deals with pain of miscarriages with her, which dictates her attitude and hope of the future.

Only one sex scene, but not real explicit. They rest was kind of insinuated.

I knew who the "traitor" was from the first mishap.

I wish there had been more about Aggie and Frederick, but I understand this is not they're story. However their future/destination was rather vague. I would have liked to learn more about that. Maybe in the letters Aggie sent to Rose.

Ian's Rose indeed

Rose meant much to her clan, especially after the McLaren was killed. She and Ian were a wonderful match. The new McLaren, Ian, forgot to be cautious and it almost cost him his wife.
