Happy Book Birthday

Sexy, flirty and fun. Kelly Jamieson writes a romance stoked by desire but curbed by fears.

If you read Body Shot, book #1 in the Last Shot series, you may recall Marco Solis. Ex-Navy SEAL, co-owner of Conquistador bar, happily single until super-hot model Carrie Garner starts spending time in his bar and getting under his skin. She’s also crazy talented with a camera and to Spain with a scholarship for design school and she’s totally out of his league. So for a guy who doesn’t let people get close for fear of being left behind there’s no reason for him to pursue her, but can he resister her?

When her best friend started dating her now fiancée Beck and knowing her modeling career wouldn’t last forever, Carrie Garner felt a bit unnecessary and decided to study abroad for a few months. But before leaving she’s roped into helping with her BFF’s engagement party by none other than Beck’s partner, the brooding, gorgeous Latin man who drives her crazy. Crazy enough to make her think twice about leaving.

If insecurities are unattractive, you’d think that beautiful people wouldn’t have problems with them, right? Wrong! Both hero and heroine in this story struggle with their own set of uncertainties that bungle up their attraction each other.
“If your first kiss could be described as candy, what would it be: Starburst, Snickers, Zero, or Goobers?”

After his parents are forcefully deported to Mexico when he was young, Marco and his sister are put into foster care. Soon after, he’s separated from his sister and bounced around from one family to the next, which causes a deep seated fear of being unwanted. Carrie grew up in a loving family full of successful professionals who must view her modeling career as flighty, making her feel like she’ll never measure up.

Even though Carrie and Marco couldn’t stand each other, they made an effort for their best friends’ sake and upon spending time together they realize that their attraction is mutual and scorching hot, and while their relationship started as just a fling with an expiration date, as they spend more time together and get to know one another the desire they felt grew to much more.

I really enjoyed getting to know this couple as they flirted, bantered, accepted and understood one another, helped each other get over their insecurities, plan a fun engagement party, help organize a program to get kids off the streets through art and ultimately fall in love.

Hot Shot is book #2 in the Last Shot series by Kelly Jamieson. It is a sexy, sweet and fun standalone contemporary romance with charming characters and an appealing storyline. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending.

3.5 Stars!

You never really think about the "beautiful" people having insecurities. Marco, a former seal who owns a tequila bar with his 2 best friends seems like he has it all. What most people don't know is he's still struggling with insecurities from being bounced around in foster care as a child. Carrie, a model/photographer, has her own set of insecurities. Her family is made up of very smart people and Carrie feels that she doesn't measure up.

What you get in this story is two beautiful people that are attracted to each other but miss all the social cues based off their insecurities and believe the other is not sincere. They finally get honest with each other (well partially honest) when they come together to plan their best friends engagement party. While being forced to spend time together, they realize the attraction is mutual.

I say they are partially honest because while they admit they are attracted, they still can't admit they want more than just a fling before Carrie takes up a scholarship in Spain for 9 months. At first I was worried the insecurities was going to be too much in the story and it did feel that way in the beginning. The more these two became closer the less we saw of the insecurities and their relationship felt more real.

Overall, this was a fun read once we got past the insecurities and I really enjoyed seeing the couple from the first book again. We also get to see a possible match for Cade in book 3.

Marco Solis is not sure why every time he is in Carrie Garner's presence he ends up pushing her further away. Carrie is beautiful and Marco can't help but being attracted to her but she hates him.

Carrie is a model and used to being hit on, Marco's lines are just another reminder that gentleman don't exist. Carrie grew up awkward and not part of the clique groups, she doesn't want to be fawned over. However she doesn't realize she is wrong about Marco and when they join forces to throw a shower for their friends they come up with a no strings attached relationship that will satisfy them both, problem is they become attached and with Carrie leaving the country can Marco let her go?

I really enjoyed this story. I felt for Marco because he initially blows it with Carrie but when she gets to know him she sees a different side. I knew there was a story behind Marco's demeanor and it was fascinating see it unfold. Great read.

Synopsis:
A former Navy SEAL and current bad boy bar owner learns to trust a free spirit in this steamy novel of unexpected romance from the bestselling author of Body Shot and the Heller Brothers series.

Marco Solis knows that if he gets too close to people they disappear. His parents were deported back to Mexico when he was fourteen, his fiancée married someone else while he was in the military, and now his business partner’s spending more time with his girl than with Marco. For better or worse, that’s how Marco meets Carrie Garner. She’s legitimately model-hot. She’s also a nut—a wild, artsy, unapproachable nut. So why is Marco so interested in cracking her shell?

Although Carrie Garner is a natural in front of the camera, her dream is to make it as a photographer. Soon she’ll be heading to Spain for design school, and she’ll miss her best friend, Hayden, like crazy. She’ll even miss Hayden’s boyfriend, Beck—but she won’t miss Beck’s partner, Marco. Bossy, brooding, and annoyingly sexy, Marco really pushes her buttons, though he obviously wouldn’t mind pushing her buttons in an up-against-the-wall, hard-and-fast kind of way. The craziest part is, if Carrie lets him do that, well . . . she may never want to leave.

My Thoughts:
This is the second book in this series and I have anxiously been awaiting this one since Last Shot. Carrie and Marco met the night her best friend Hayden met Marco’s friend and business partner Beck. Sparks flew for Hayden and Beck, but Carrie and Marco didn’t hit it off. Carrie felt that Marco was a player and was always trying to hit on her and she felt like he wasn’t genuine. Marco was taken with Carrie but he felt she was out of his league and wouldn’t give him a chance.

This is a story of frenemies to lovers. Carrie and Marco are working together as they are involved in the wedding of their best friends and have to plan an engagement party. As they are working together they both discover that they really didn’t know the person and guards are let down. The chemistry between these two is always simmering until it boils over and they can’t fight the pull.
There is quite a few laugh out loud crazy times with Carrie’s wonderful flamboyant grandmother and the rest of the secondary characters. There is some very touching heart to heart talks that Carrie and Marco discover so much about the other that I had a lump in my throat as they told their respective story’s. There is push and pull between the characters and decisions that must be made as the story draws to a conclusion.

I really enjoyed this terrific frenemy to lover’s romance and look forward to Cade’s story.

Their best friends were lovers is how the couple came to be. Both weak and made the other better. It was an OK read.

I’m honestly not sure who to blame for the current trend I’m seeing in romance novels for bossy, controlling heroes. That sort of romance hero has been around since long before Christian Grey, but perhaps the overwhelming popularity of 50 Shades has created a resurgence? Whatever the reason, I don’t care for it, and Marco from Hot Shot is a classic example.

Let me give you a few samples from the book. The first one, you can read for yourself; it’s on page 5 of the book and is included in the first 10% sample you can read on Amazon without purchase.

He clearly regarded her as an airheaded blond bimbo, flirting with her but also mansplaining things to her that made her grit her teeth.

Honestly, I’m not sure there’s any way back from being a mansplainer. Fortunately, Marco doesn’t do much of it during the book, though he does spend a whole lot of his time objectifying Carrie in his mind, and treating her as though he’s the only one who knows what’s best for her - EVEN BEFORE THEY START DATING.

There was a particularly egregious example early in the book. Carrie had been out on a photoshoot and gone to a club after with some friends. They are drinking, dancing and generally having a good time when Marco arrives and promptly puts a massive downer on the proceedings by telling Carrie that she’s had enough to drink, grabbing her hand and dragging her onto the dance floor, and then when she chooses to dance with someone else, comes up with the following, really SPECIAL behaviour.

Oh hell no. She wasn’t dancing with anyone but him. (...) He curved his hand around Carrie’s upper arm and turned her away from the dips**t she was dancing with.
“Sorry man,” Marco said to the guy. “My girl’s not dancing with anyone else.”

Remember, at this point they aren’t dating. They haven’t even KISSED. She’s already told him that she doesn’t want to sleep with him, that “I don’t hate you,” she said dismissively. “I tolerate you.”

If a guy treated me like that, my next move would be to call the bouncers over and have him kicked out of the club for harassing me. If he carried on, I’d get a restraining order.

I could go on. I could tell you about Marco’s special name for his private parts. In fact, I’m going to, just to share the sentence that made me throw up a little bit in my mouth.

They were going to go home and do the sex thing, while he was going to go home and do the hand thing with Mr. Big while thinking about Carrie’s sweetly bouncing breasts.

That’s right. Mr. Big. And Carrie. But this isn’t Sex In The City; this is revoltingly objectifying and everything about Marco horrified me even BEFORE I realized that Carrie was going to give up her dream to stay with him.

This is a well-written and edited book; I didn’t find a single typo or grammatical error, and if you particularly like alpha-A-hole heroes, you may absolutely love it.

I HATED it.

One star.

Marco and Carrie are brought together by friends; their best friends are getting married. It’s not all hearts and flowers with Marco and Carrie though, as they start out not liking each other, but as they get to know one another, they each start to realize they have each other pegged wrong. Both fighting their own insecurities, Marco and Carrie also fight the undeniable connection between them. But how long can they go without admitting to their attraction?

I was really drawn to Marco. I thought the writing of his character was done with a lot of feeling and really made you feel for him, understand him, and you wanted more for him. It took me longer to warm up to Carrie. She came across so rude and hurtful. I was glad we got to see why, but I felt she kept blaming Marco for what was going on between them when she was the one who was constantly making comments and pushing him away.

I enjoyed getting to know Marco and Carrie and learning about why they have the self-doubt that they each have. I love how they both help each other see the good in each other and what they each have to offer. It’s beautiful to watch them both open up and learn to trust.

With the sincerity also comes fun wit, I found myself laughing out loud at times. The supporting characters are all enjoyable and I can’t wait to get Cade’s story.

Marco is one charming man, “I’ve never seen your naked ***,” he corrected. “I have seen you wearing tight jeans, however. And I did see a picture of it— in a tiny bikini bottom— and I maintain my claim that it is sweet.” Marco is such an honest man, "he traced a finger down her spine. “Never knew a woman’s back could be so sexy. My balls were hot and aching all night.” I really liked this book, I loved Marco.

Marco and Carrie were appealing as a couple. I really related to Carrie, and I think we all would, and the idea that she was a little insecure from things that happened to her growing up, and as a result, she took Marco's interest as teasing.

I liked how real this felt, how much it made me feel like I was able to relate to Carrie, especially as she is now a semi-successful model, albeit at the end of her career.

I enjoyed the book overall. There was a little more depth than I was expecting, and the enemies to lovers, even though there really was no actual enemy relationship was fun. I liked that they were willing to work with one another to give something great to their friends.

I also enjoyed how the 8 month trip to Spain was resolved, the way it was handled and allowed her relationship to move forward without her having to give up any of her personal successes.

The pacing and the writing were both good, although the book did seem to move a lot faster at the end than at the beginning, so there was a little bit of an issue there, but not enough for me to be unable to enjoy the book.

This is the 2nd in a series. The characters from the previous book are a major part of the plot, and the initial meeting with Marco and Carrie is in the first book, but this is a standalone. You do not need to have read the previous to enjoy this.

I recommend this book.

The leap to lovers is sexy and sweet….

If you love sexy banter, fun flirtation and laughing while falling for a new book boyfriend, then you have picked up the right book! Flirty and with more than a hint of sweet, Marco and Carrie come together to arrange friends’ engagement party. As they hammer out the details they learn more about each other…

Without chemistry, nothing is going to happen but there was no fear of that! While Carrie initially thought Marco was superficial, she soon found there was a lot more to him – and she liked it… Marco’s vulnerability equaled hers and finding that out was a journey lined with sexy flirtation and emotional discovery. Everyone had fears and even pain. What made it easier was sharing with someone who would understand and support them through it…

A sweet, romantic ending was the perfect ending to another great addition to this series…

In this book we meet Marco, another ex SEAL along with Cade and Beck. The three of them own Conquistadors, an upscale Tequila bar (and trying to get their food menu up to par) Hayden and Beck are getting married soon and her best friend Carrie is spending more time at the bar with her. Carrie is a supermodel whose days are getting shorter work wise, she's a talented photographer and like Marco she's full of her own insecurities. Oh and she and Marco hate each other. That's the take off point of the story. Marco calls Carrie because he wants to plan a surprise engagement party for Hayden and Beck and needs her help. He's done all the research on line and has thought things through pretty well. Since she's maid of honor and best friend he enlists her, she's a little reluctant since they can't have a civil conversation but agrees and the planning begins. She's also leaving in 2 months for Spain to study photography. Raised in a family of overachievers she feels like she's never accomplished anything. She sees this as a means to and end. Despite her being work selling in galleries and getting great side jobs, she's still bent on going.
Things heat up with her and Marco. Marco wants her desperately and it takes half the book to get there. The first half is idle dialogue which took me two days to plow through. Once things heat up they really sizzle, but for me those scenes fall a little short and get redundant although I did like Marco's filthy mouth. There are a couple of subplots here, one being her niece, the awesome Grandma and the wedding plans. Cade the man ho and the ongoing menu issues. Marco and Carrie are seeing each other on the sly until it comes out at a gathering and then it's assumed they are a couple, when really they seemed to see it as a fling with a end date. In spite of their growing feelings for each other which were pretty obvious but neither spoke the words. Pfft. These are 30 year olds.
Hayden and Beck get married, Carrie is ready to go and after the wedding Marco tells her he's done. He's calling it off early. That's not a spoiler... threads of that run through the story.
I think this book was a little better than book 1. The dialogue could have been trimmed way back and you'd still have a strong story without all the redundancy between Marco and Carrie. The second half is basically sex. They aren't really deep characters. I'm not sure they're people you can relate to, there's no one focus in the book. I do love Kelly's books and I'm hoping with the momentum of this one Cade's story is even better.
This gets a 3.5 from me, but I rounded it up because of Marco.

Loved it! Review to follow closer to release date. Awesome job Ms. Jamieson! You rock! 4.5 stars!!!!
WOW! Ms. Jamieson is now a must read author for me! Lol... After reading the first book in the series, Body Shot, Hot Shot picks up with Carrie and Marco planning a surprise engagement party for their best friends. In this story, we have the reasons why it seemed that they were not meant for each other but the chemistry was there. Carrie, a supermodel, in the midst of her career ending is about to embark on a trip to Spain to study photography and you have Marco Nave SEAL and bar owner extraordinaire, who is insecure due to his rough upbringing and feeling of abandonment. They both don't realize that they both want the same thing. Carrie to be given more credit than being beautiful on the outside and Marco safe in the knowledge that he will not be abandoned again. A night out with her friends after a photo shoot, Carrie goes to a club and sees Marco there as well. Fireworks abound!!! They kiss and from that moment on they realize that all the witty comebacks, were a sign of them throwing each other off because of their insecurities. Marco suggests a short 'romp' before she leaves for Spain, at first Carrie doesn't believe it to be a good idea, but she slowly realizes more and more what type of person Marco truly is and gives into the idea of a brief affair before she leaves. The sex is intense and all consuming. So scorching, burn the sheets, hot! Loved it. I freaking the love the way Ms. Jamieson writes. Her characters are all in and focused intensely with each other. I love that . I love how they fall in love and all the secondary characters. There is humor, mixed with true family and friend issues. Loved that these brave SEALS are making a life for themselves after their service to this country. At the end Marco, realizes he cannot let Carrie go without expressing his true feelings. Thank the stars that Carrie realizes her true worth as well. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!! I suspect Cade is about to get his comeuppance from a certain server at the Conquistadors...Lol. Great job Ms. Jamieson, kudos to you for another wonderful love story! Thank you.

Lighthearted, engaging and sensual!

This is a charming, enemies-to-lovers story about two people suffering with their own insecurities who may just find what they’re looking for, a family, a home and love, in each other.

The writing is well done. The main characters are troubled, genuine, supportive and likeable. And the plot uses a mix of delicious innuendoes, clever dialogue, steamy chemistry, sizzling attraction and a little introspection to take us on journey that starts as a fun, flirty fling and ends in true love.

Overall I have to say this is definitely a sexy, romantic, enjoyable read that has engaging characters and a storyline with the perfect amount of heat and heart.

Where do you begin to describe Marco Solis. An Ex Navy Seal, Part Owner of Conquistadors Tequila Bar With His Two Best Friends, An All Around Great Guy, but a guy who doesn't feel worthy of any of it.
Then we have Carrie Garner, A Model, A fantastic Photographer, A great best friend to Hayden a loving daughter and sister but also someone who doesn't feel worthy of it all.
Marco & Carrie are brought together due to the fact that their best friends are a couple but right from the start they both mistaken distaste for one another instead of the sexual tension that was obvious to everyone else. The attraction these two have for one another is off the charts and with each turn of the page that attraction grows.
Can two people who both feel unworthy of the other find that connection or will they let it all fall away out of fear.
This is book two in this series by Kelly Jamieson and with each new book you can feel the pull towards these characters as you get to know them more and more. So if are looking for a book that has great friends, romance, a lot of fun and just about everything else than this is one you won't want to miss.

Alright, you all know how much I like Kelly's books and 8 out of 10 they're cool and fun to read but this one was not one of them.

I struggled a lot, not only getting to know the characters but sympathizing with them. Most of the time I found Marco very hard to like and annoying. I don't know if it was because I really didn't know him or just his personality. He and I just didn't click.

Then it was Carrie... I tried to like her but she was just there. Reacting to things and having no personality whatsoever. All the characters were bland, if I'm being honest and quite forgettable. Like, I knew I have read the previous books but hell if I could remember, let alone care.

That was a huge issue I had with this book - I just didn't care enough.

I also didn't enjoy the sex scenes. They weren't really steamy and like Carrie said... It felt inevitable. Like, I didn't feel the chemistry between them and the whole thing felt like well, now I think this is it. Almost like a chore.

So, I'm going to take a time off. I will be still reading Kelly's books just not in the near future.

I really liked the first book in this series but, I just couldn't get into this book. I couldn't connect with the characters. They felt forced & I feel like the sex was used as a filler. I really liked Marco & Carrie but, I didn't like them together. Cade seems like he's going to be an interesting character so, I'm looking forward to reading his book.

“Admit it,” he murmured against her temple.
“No. I hate you.”
“I get that. But you still want me.” He brushed his lips over her temple. “And I want you.”

Former Navy SEAL, Marco Solis, and fashion model, Carrie Garner suddenly find themselves spending a lot of time together when their best friends Beck and Hayden become a couple. Marco is convinced that Carrie hates him and Carrie thinks that Marco is like all of the other men who only want to flirt with her based on her looks and not for who she is on the inside. As confident and successful as Marco is, he still has serious insecurities stemming from a rocky childhood, leading him to believe that Carrie is way out of his league. Not to mention the fact that she’s best friends with his best friend’s girl and she also happens to be leaving in a few months, so things could never work between them. But there’s no denying the sparks that fly whenever they are together. They decide to give in and have a fun little fling before Carrie has to leave, but neither one expects the real feelings that quickly develop. Will they figure out a way to make it work or will Carrie be just one more person that leaves Marco behind?

I read Body Shot last year and thought it was a fun and sexy read so I was looking forward to reading more about this crew and seeing what might happen between Marco and Carrie. I thought this was a sweet and ultimately heartwarming story. Marco and Carrie weren’t exactly enemies but they definitely didn’t get along very well when they first met, so it was fun seeing them realize that they actually did want each other and then finally giving it a go. Both of them had some issues but it was nice seeing them find the things they were missing in one another. They did have great chemistry and this book had plenty of steamy moments in addition to the more heartfelt moments. It was also fun seeing Hayden and Beck some more in this one and I’m more intrigued by Cade now. Marco and Carrie’s relationship was believable and this really is a likable crew. I enjoyed this story and look forward to Cade’s book and spending more time with this group of characters!

Marco and Carrie have a sort of love/hate relationship. She is a model and is in flux with her career and life. Marco is trying to make the bar a go with his two friends and finds Carrie intriguing but doesn't want anything serious. Carrie fights their growing attraction and was quite rude about it at times. Marco wants to give it a go but backs down when she pushes him away.

Both have self-confidence issues. Marco was left in foster care after his parents were deported to Mexico and he and his sister were split up. Carrie feels that her looks are what people use to define her and doesn't think she is worthy. Both of them hide their fears and it takes a while for them to see each other in a real sense. Carrie was so set on pushing Marco away for her own good, that she failed to see she was hitting his biggest issue of not being enough.

When they do finally agree to see what happens and have a short-term fling, Carrie is still the one putting them in a box. She is leaving for Spain for 9 months to take a photography course and thinks that will make her family proud of her. She fails to see that they are already proud of her and it is her issue and not theirs that have her leaving. Marco agrees to their short-term relationship and finds himself falling for her. Both of them were not good at acknowledging their feelings. I did give Marco credit for fighting for her at points, but Carrie never really gave anything back. I did not like that about her. Even when her trip was imminent, she wanted Marco to step up and ask her to stay. Based upon his past, I didn't understand why she felt it was up to him to stop her and not for her to decide to stay for him and let him know he was enough.

The ending was nice and it fit this couple well. I am interested to see what happens with Cade. It was nice to see Beck and Hayden's relationship grow in this book also. It was with great pleasure that I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

Carrie and Marco couldn't be more different on the surface, but beneath it all they are more similar than they realize.

Carrie is light hearted, fun loving and outgoing, the complete opposite of her best friend Hayden. Despite her successful modeling career, it is too easy for her to revert to the awkward teenager who bonded with the other social outcast of her class. Carrie's family doesn't help her self esteem or feelings of inadequacy either with the successful careers in the business world, and now that Hayden and Beck are together, Carrie is feeling more alone than ever.

Marco is happy for his best friend Beck's newfound happiness, but change in their tight knit group worries him. For years, Marco, Beck and Cade have been the 3 Musketeers of sorts, bonding first over the demons instilled in them by their younger years, then becoming true brothers as SEALs. Marco has lost a lot over the years; it feels as though everyone who matters to him leaves him in one way or another, and Beck is about to be the latest part of his family to pull away. The silver lining to Hayden's appearance in Beck's life is her best friend Carrie. From the moment Marco saw Carrie walk through the doors of Conquistadors, he couldn't help but notice her. Sure she is beautiful but she has an ease and a glow about her that draws everyone to her even if she can't see it sometimes.

Despite the mutual attraction, insecurities and failure to communicate complicate things at first. Marco is sure she hates him, and Carrie can't explain why he irritates her or thinks he's mocking her with his compliments. When a little alcohol loosens tongues and inhibitions, they are both aware of the sizzling attraction but still cautious to act on it due to their intertwined small circle of friends and Carrie's looming months long overseas trip.

Once they decide to indulge in a "hot romp" before she goes, it is definitely that but neither expects it to morph into more. Circumstances find them spending more time together and looking forward to it, but that clock is still ticking...

Hot Shot was an entertaining quick read! Marco and Carrie have plenty of chemistry, and there is a great supporting lineup of secondary characters too. Now there is just one man left standing, so I wonder who will bring down the manwhore Cade? I think we may have met her already, but time will tell...

Ms Jamieson, you had me at SEAL.

It is no secret that I am a sucker for a SEAL book, Whilst I haven't read the first book inthe Last Call series (how did I miss that??) this did not take anything away from Hot Shot.

I liked the push/pull between Marco and Carrie, though at times they both individually frustrated me.

At times, they felt weak, like they were teenagers rather than the smart and successful adults they are (but this could just be me). They were so down on themselves most of the time and I wanted to clonk their heads together to knock some sense into them.

The banter between Marco and Carrie was fun and flirty, with a share of dirty talk thrown in for good measure. Their chemistry is of the charts.

I loved the relationships between Marco and his 2 SEAL best friends, Beck and Cade, as well as between Carrie and her best girl Hayden.

Now I need to go back to read book 1, and can't wait to see who takes Cade off the market.

Though a little corny at times this is a pretty good read, I love a good “hate each other turned lovers” story and this definitely qualifys as such!

Marco is part owner of Conquistadors, a bar, with Cade and Beck. In book one we meet Beck and Hayden who are soon to be married and Haydens best friend Carrie is spending a ton of time at the bar helping her prepare. Marco and Carrie “hate” one another from day one, both having insecurities that cause them to turn what is actually attraction into never ending arguments. Marco decides to throw and surprise engagement party and who better to help him plan it but Carrie? Carrie is a successful model but doesn’t see that as much of an accomplishment in her family filled with people who’ve “saved the world.” To prove herself to her family she’s accepted a scholarship to study photography in Spain… when her and Marco’s relationship flips from hate to love it makes her impending journey bittersweet.

My favorite part of this book was definitely the ending… without giving out any spoilers I will say the way that Marco wins Carries heart was too cute. Both Carrie and Marco battle their insecurities throughout the book and I love the way the author sucked me into the story, I felt like I was battling with them. I’m excited to see where the author takes the next book in this series as I found this book even better than book 1!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

4 Star Review of Hot Shot (Last Shot #2) by Kelly Jameson

This is the second book in the series and one I really enjoyed and is Marco Solis and Carrie Garner's story.
Marco has a complex, when he is around, people seem to leave. First his parents, then his fiance and now his business partner Beck, is too busy with his girlfriend to concentrate on the bar they own.
In fact it is because of Beck that he meets the totally unsuitable, yet super hot Carrie. Marco is everything that Carrie doesn't want, bossy, arrogant, sexy and an alpha male. Unfortunately for Marco and Carrie, although they dislike each other, it becomes increasingly hard to overlook the fact that they are also attracted to each other. Now that they have been thrown together by the relationship of their best friends, they have no choice but to confront their feelings.
Can they both overcome the insecurities and hurts from the past? Will they be prepared to take a chance at finding happiness?
Friendships forged over many years help both Marco and Carrie to overcome their fears and at times I felt like crying for them both and then there was the laughter as well.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I received an ARC through the publisher via Netgalley

I'm not sure I've read a story where both main characters have confidence issues. By most accounts, neither of them should, but childhood experiences run deep with them both, causing them to almost miss out on something really great. Carrie was sort of a dork in high school, but she's a model now. Marco's parents were deported to Mexico when he was fourteen, leaving him to a foster system that showed no love for him. He's now a former Navy SEAL, so he's obviously done well for himself, but for some reason, every time he talks to Carrie, she automatically thinks he's making fun of her. And he thinks he's not good enough for her anyway.

But a night with a little alcohol to break down some barriers, including Marco showing Carrie his welding work, which shows Marco's a bit deeper than Carrie thought. And then later Marco seeing Carrie's photography, and then them collaborating to help her niece... so much collaboration, putting them in different types of conversations, creating deeper connections.

But Carrie's leaving for Spain. What will happen to their budding relationship? I love Marco's gesture at the end as well as Carrie's response. Really cute story. And I still want to find a tequila-tasting bar nearby! :-)

I enjoyed several books by Kelly jamieson in the past, especially her Hockey stories, but the "Last shot" series couldn't really tick my box.

I really liked the setting with the three friends and the bar they are owning. In the second book we meet Marco and Carrie, she is the best friend of Hayden.
Unfortunately I never felt a connection with Marco and Carrie. The development of their relationship felt rushed on the one side and dragging on the other. The story as well as the characters felt very distant to me.

I had the feeling that not very much is happening throughout the story and everything remained on almost the same level, with hardly any ups and downs. I liked there wasn't that much drama but often felt pretty boring too.

I won't read the last book in this series and will rather stick with the author's hockey romances.

Couldn't really get into this one, just on ok. read for me.
Former Navy Seal, Marco asks model, Carrie if she would help him arrange an engagement party for their best friends. Carries not keen on working close to Marco, and he doesn't want to have to ask her, the situation's not going to be ideal as they're both attracted to each other, they just don't get along, but she finally agrees.
Well the close proximity does it again, they can't keep their hands off each other. I liked Marco's character but felt nothing for Carrie even though she had some good points when she complained about Marco's threatment of her. Just another "blah" story, nothing new.

The plot has been done so many times, the guy and girl can't stand each other, but eventually like each other. The dialog was good though with humor interspersed throughout...though I wasn't particularly fond of Marco's dropping the "f" bomb too often and his choice of words he used to describe having sex with Carrie. At times it made me feel as if he had no respect for her.

Marco and Carrie's chemistry was good, and their push-pull relationship was entertaining...but it was difficult to read how down on themselves they were. All in all, it was an OK story.

This book was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley, I am voluntarily providing honest review.

Sweet enemies to lovers story. Easy to read as a stand alone but I can't wait to see what finally catches Cade's attention in the next book in the series. Loved both Marco and Carrie. This group of friends works so well together. Really liked the back story on both these leads. HOT steamy love scenes.

Overall well written and a joy to read.

Hot Shot by Kelly Jamieson is a great addition to her Last Shot series. Marcos and Carrie have been spending more time together since their best friends are engaged to each other. Marco and Carrie both have insecurities. Carrie, that she is not good enough for her family and Marcos, that he is not worthy of love or a family since everyone leaves him. The more time Marcos and Carrie spend together the more chemistry they discover. Hot Shot was an excellent read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I cannot wait until Cade's story!
