There is this girl named Ricki and her dad is constantly nagging her to improve her grades in school. But Ricki is having a hard time concentrating in class. And her mom's very busy with her job and hardly any time to sit and talk with her daughter. Life for her is difficult but it's not her parents that is on her mind, it's Diablo. This beautiful horse is being seriously mistreated by his owner and Ricki decides she will be the one to do something about it. But when Ricki's mom forbids her to set foot in the stables, Ricki is absolutely devastated. Ricki's passion for Diablo is too strong, and she takes the matter into her own hands, which means running the risk of saving Diablo from his cruel owner and disobeying her own mother. But not even in her worst nightmares could Ricki have imagined what is in store for her. Diablo's owner is not only cruel to animals, he also has no qualms about attacking people too!
When I was little, I used to get these PonyClub subscription boxes. I have no idea why I wanted those, as I've never been that much into horses, but I was a child, I guess that says it all. So, these boxes came with books, and today I found three of them /maybe there were only three, I don't remember../. Because I used to hate reading (bad experiences with compulsory books I guess..) I never read them. Sooo, today I thought I should give them a shot. I mean I know they are for younger audiences, but why not? My parents had paid for them, and no one has ever read them, so today I started with this one and soon I'll read the other two as well. I guess, in this way I won't feel like they were wasted money.
Okay, finished rambling, onto the review. Honestly, this book was surprisingly good. When I started I didn't expect it because I didn't really like the writing style and it felt childish. After about 20 or so pages, I got into it, and started to pay more attention to the story, than my smaller problems. Yes, the main character is 13, so I couldn't connect with her that much, but I could still relate to some extent. I really liked the subject this story touched and the way it was done, because you could say, that more emphasis could have been put on animal abuse, but people tend to forget that the target audience for this book is the 10-13 yrs old age-group. Having said that, I think it was executed really well, without causing any harm in younger children reading this. Moreover, I think anyone can take something away from this book, any age-group really.
All in all, I really liked this book, it was an easy read and felt good after the more mature, new-adult stuff I've been reading recently. I think I'll read the other two books I've found this week and then get back to the books I'd normally read. If you have it laying around somewhere and you want a shorter, lighter read, than you normally reach for, I recommend you to check it out, or if you have a daughter of this age, give it to her, she'll probably like it, especially if she likes horses. I know I would have loved it at the age of 10, but I didn't like reading back then.. *sigh*
Dvojka.
I was blown away! I love horses with a passion. What made this book ironic to me was the fact that we had a horse named Diablo at the barn I ride at..he is now gone. But It was a truley amazing book for any horse lovers out there!
I teď.
2020 Not the most interesting horse book that I've read from this age demographic, but it was okay. I felt like the story focused too much on the poor family life (and then forced them to realize how they were wrong) more than it did on the bond between the girl and her horse.
An amazing book! I think all horse lovers should read this book! I didn't know that there were more books of this series until I read the comments and now I want to read the rest of them! I recommend this book to ANYONE (but especially horse lovers)!
in this book you read about a girl named Ricki and her struggles to save a horse named diablo. but when she is forbidden to go to the stables, she disobeys all orders and goes there to save the abused horse from his owner.
this book is full of action and things that can actually happen.
The first in the whole series, this book was great!! it had a little bit of everything in it, romance, horses, friendships, and mystery and suspense I LOVE THESE BOOK!
I have read all of the series. I just don't feel like taking the time to select all of them. I give all of them five-stars, but they are not very well written.
An enjoyable read. Kind of predictable, and not as intense as it could be. Horse abuse is awful and the book DEFINITELY would have been more enjoyable if they had portrayed it as such.
I loved this book. It is sad and happy, but mostly sad. Because a girl finds a abused horse and saves it, and in the processes the abusive owner beats the girl, and the horse almost to death.
