The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor, Book #2
Greetings,
In regards to the Matter of the un-entailed Estate of the late-Jonathan Hambly, 10th Earl of Banfield, be advised that your attendance is urgently required at the reading of his lordship’s Last Will & Testament, to take place on November 1st of this year at Castle Keyvnor in Bocka Morrow, Cornwall.
Regards,
Mr. Timothy Hunt, Esq.

When the late-Earl of Banfield’s distant relations descend upon Bocka Morrow, they’ll find gypsies, witches, pixies, smugglers, and one very haunted castle. And if they’re lucky, they might just fall in love while they’re there.

BEDEVILED, The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor

Kate Pearce’s A Ghost of a Chance
Violet DeLisle is secretly delighted to have the opportunity to meet up with some of the more obscure branches of her family tree. She’s been in love with her stepmother’s second cousin, Charlie, since she was a child. But her beautiful half-sister has clearly set her sights on Charlie and he is obviously dazzled. Forced to hide from the lovebirds, she huddles under the stairs and meets a kindred spirit who not only turns out to be a rather feisty ghost, but a master of courtship.

Deb Marlowe's Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse
Her father inherited an earldom and a castle. Has Lady Tamsyn inherited a curse? It's what it feels like when she discovers that she can see the truth behind the lies that men tell. All she wanted on arrival at Keyvnor was to avoid Mr. Gryffyn Cardew, but in a sea of lies, he is the one who always tells her the truth. Together they find that her curse might just be a gift—and their love the key to preventing a tragedy.

Michelle Willingham's A Dance With the Devil
Devon Lancaster is fascinated by the beautiful vicar's daughter, Jane Hawkins, who has been summoned to the will reading of the late Lord Banfield. But is she truly only a vicar's daughter? Or does her past hold secrets that put her very life in danger? Jane knows she is unlikely to find a husband among the handsome men at Castle Keyvnor because of her poverty. But when she is locked in the cellar with Devon, she finds that the Devil of Lancaster sets her blood on fire.

The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor includes twelve Regency romance novellas. Don’t miss the anthologies Vexed, Mystified and Spellbound.

Three delightful romances assisted to fruition by a few ghosts and a pixie. Great fun to read these three that felt a bit like fairy tales for adults.

I. A Dance with the Devil by Michelle Willingham: Jane, the friend of Marjorie and daughter to the vicar, is just tagging along on the trip to the castle. She has no expectation of anything as her friend’s father takes up his inheritance. Devon is also at the castle with friends but the 4th son of a titled father he needs a wife with money to fulfill his dreams. And yet…Jane and Devon are drawn together even before Jane faces some troubling events AND knowing that they are not “right” for one another.

II. Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie’s Curse by Deb Marlow: Tamsyn and Griff first meet when 15 and 18 and though attracted to one another something dreadful happens that keeps them apart for 8 years. When Tamsyn returns to the castle a conversation takes place between them, a gift is bestowed, evil is thwarted and a HEA ending is eventually achieved.

III. A Ghost of a Chance by Kate Pearce: The final story in this collection is of two sisters and two brothers. Violet has always loved Charlie but Charlie sees her as a close friend – almost like a sister. Edwin, Charlie’s older brother and the one who will receive the title, has always had eyes only for Violet. Charlie and Violet’s younger sister, Letty, are smitten with one another. There is quite a bit of miscommunication, some mishaps and the exposure of true feelings as the four get to know one another and themselves as more than childhood friends.

I loved Tuft, the pixie, and the impact of his laugh. I found Paul charming and was happy with what happened for him and his mother in the end and Benedict…poor charming Benedict. I hope that at some point in the future he finds his way to the light.

Thank you to the author for the copy of this delightful book in exchange for my honest review.

5 stars!

This installment was every bit as good as the first - maybe even better!

A Dance with the Devil, Michelle Willingham - 5 stars. Loved Jane and Devon! This novella was excellent, it was short, but didn't feel rushed and had a very in depth story, a believable romance, interaction with characters from the other novellas and it was by far the steamiest of the three stories.

Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse, Deb Marlowe - 5 stars. Tamsyn and Gryffyn have a past and had a blossoming romance that was cut short by a huge misunderstanding. Tamsyn has not seen Gryffyn for 8 years and is still angry at him for humiliating her - Gryffyn assumed that Tamsyn thought she was too good for him and is a bit angry himself. Their misunderstanding is cleared up rather quickly and when a ghost intervenes on Tamsyn's behalf and confronts the true culprit, who cost the young lovers their future Tamsyn is given a gift. When a dark force tries to invade, the gift becomes in valuable and brings Tamsyn and Gryffyn together again. Excellent story, with a lot of empire and plenty of twists and turns.

A Ghost of a Chance, Kate Pearce - 5 stars.
Violet has loved Charlie for as long as she can remember, but it seems that his heart belongs to her half sister the beautiful Letty. When a helpful ghost offers to help her win her true love Violet jumps at the chance - but maybe love has always been hers and she just needed someone to show her the truth. Another wonderful story and the least steamy of the three. Kate Pearce is such a versatile author - she can write stuff that is so hot, you need an ice bath to cool down and she can write the sweetest story you have ever read, like this one. All the while she captivates you and has you rooting for her characters.

I loved this book and am eager to read the next installment!!

Three haunting romances!
The first story is a rags to riches story helped with some ghostly assistance. Jane finds answers to her past and a deep passion with Devon.

The second story is filled with pixie magic as well as a dark menace. I loved the fulfillment of a love story that survives misunderstanding and differences.

The last story is a delightful romp with a mischievous ghost playing Cupid.

Three enjoyable love stories. I was given an ARC to review this book.

Book provided by the author

The three stories in Bedeviled all have the Castle Keyvnor located in Bocka Morrow in Cornwall, England in the forefront of each story along with the death of the current earl.  Bedeviled continues on nicely with all new stories from Vexed , the first book in the series, concerning some of the same characters as well as others we meet.  The castle is considered to be haunted and is definitely gloomy and foreboding with lots of rooms, staircases, turrets and gardens. The stories surround the reading of the will which is why everyone is visiting the castle whether they want to be there or not.  The stories are short and very quick reads with well defined characters and plots that left me wanting more. The Earl's Will is at the back of the book and gives closure to what the stories are about.  I'm happy to know that there are two more books to the series, Mystified and Spellbound .

A Dance With the Devil by Michelle Willingham is Jane and Devon's story.  Devon's nickname is often the Devil and it seems very apropos!  He needs to marry an heiress since he's the fourth son of a viscount and needs money to manage his property as well as take care of his tenants.  Jane, adopted by a vicar and his wife when she was a newborn, is a friend of Marjorie, one of the daughters of the new Earl of Banfield.  They have an immediate attraction and Devon feels he needs to look after her and protect her.  Jane blends into her surroundings because she doesn't want to stand out since she feels she doesn't belong at the castle and is just there as a companion. She gets into a few scrapes because of her background, which is unbeknownst to all, including her, but Devon is always there to protect her.  There's a friendly ghost, Benedict, with an icy presence, that has an important role in the story.  There are quite a few twists and turns and a happily ever after as well as nice closure with the epilogue.  Willingham is a new to me author but I will be adding some of her books to my always growing TBR pile!

Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse by Deb Marlowe has a prologue that gives important background to the story and takes place in the year 1803 set eight years earlier than the stories involving the will in 1811.  This story is lighter in some parts because of the pixies and a ghost tied to the castle and the Earl's family but darker in other parts due to evil situations and actions.  Tamsyn, another daughter of the Earl, is getting feelings about people she's meeting at the castle and finds out it's a touch of the Sight that's a truth gauge.  It gives her insight to what men are really thinking even though they are saying something else and was a gift from a pixie for a wrong done to her eight years before.  Tamsyn and Gryff have a past and not all of it happy due to a misunderstanding.  When they meet up at the castle they reconnect and it's not what either of them expected especially since there is still chemistry between them.  There is nice closure and a happily ever after.  Marlowe is a new to me author and I will be adding her books to my TBR pile as well.

A Ghost of a Chance by Kate Pearce has the ghost, Benedict, returning to help others find true love.  Letty and her half-sister Violet are front and center with brothers, Edwin and Charles.  Violet has always loved Charles but he seems to have set his sights on Letty.  Is Violet less devastated than she ought to be?  Being the second son, Charles  doesn't have much to his name and also has a reputation that precedes him. Letty's mom wants her to marry up so whose will will win out?  Watching the interactions were heartbreaking at times especially when some of the characters don't notice what is right in front of them and there were a lot of miscommunications.  The descriptions of the castle and the lands were vivid and made me feel that I was there.  There was nice closure and several potential happily ever afters.  Pearce is another new to me author.  I may give her romance books a try.

A Dance with the Devil - Michelle Willingham - 4 / 5 - Devon Lancaster came to the reading of the will because he’s on the hunt for a wealthy potential bride. However, he is enchanted by Jane Hawkins, a vicar’s daughter. But mystery, and danger, seem to surround her - she is more than she seems and even though he knows nothing can come of their time together, he can’t stay away from her. This was really sweet and a bit on the sexy side too. Devon is a delightful character, as is Jane, but because this is a novella, there isn’t much time to develop them as deeper characters, and that’s what would have made this a truly great story.

Tamsyn and the Pixie’s Curse - Deb Marlowe - 3 /5 - Tamsyn was 15 when she met Gryff Carew, a local Cornish landowner, and she was smitten. Until she heard him laughing at her when she embarrassed herself - only it wasn’t Gryff, but a Pixie who had laughed. Nevertheless, eight years passed with this misunderstanding between them and she ignored and avoided him Now they’re thrown together again. This time, the Pixie gives Tamsyn a gift of being able to see the truth of men. She can see that Gryff is totally honest and a worthy man. She can also see that Rowancourt is evil and up to no good. So she works with Gryff and the Pixie to stop his evil machinations. This was just okay. Gryff and Tamsyn work out their differences really quickly and easily in all this and despite their initially promising UST, their resolved tension is lackluster. This is a sweet story that is entertaining, but was only just adequate in being a satisfying romance.

A Ghost of a Chance - Kate Pearce - 3 /5 - This one involves something of a love squarish shape... Violet has loved Charlie, a charming younger brother to a viscount for years. But he seems enamored with Violet’s half-sister Lettie, who is equally enamored with him. No one is enamored with Charlie’s older brother (the viscount), Edwin, but he’s enamored with Violet and has been for years. So Violet meets a ghost who agrees to help her win Charlie’s love, but she soon realizes that this would hurt both Charlie and Lettie who are in love with each other and besides, Edwin keeps getting in the way. This was just okay. This is a clean romance, with a decidedly Victorian feel, what with the sort of stilted way everyone speaks and behaves. Not a lot of sexual tension or chemistry, but I did like Edwin a lot. Violet with borderline TSTL though. I did think the whole square thing with the miscommunication and Edwin trying to convince Violet that Charlie isn’t for her...that was all really well handled. The whole story was quite well written, I just didn’t feel like I connected to any of the characters but Edwin.

The Castle Keyvnor series of Regency novellas always provides fun stories when you are in the mood for something a little spooky, but not too scary. Ghosts, pixies, witches, and all manner of magical happenings are common in this castle near the coast of Cornwall. This first set of books features family and friends of the late earl of Banfield who have come to hear the reading of his will.

A Dance with the Devil by Michelle Willingham features a girl who was raised as the adopted daughter of a vicar. She comes with her friends' family to the castle but has no expectation of inheriting anything. Jane considers herself a nobody that will attract no attention amongst the rest of the high-born guests. However, Devon is smitten with her when he first sets eyes on her. Even though he should be seeking out a rich wife, he can't deny his attraction to Jane. With a little help from a romantic ghost, Jane and Devon get to spend time together, and they work to find out why Jane is suddenly in danger. This is a romantic story with a little bit of mystery to it.

Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie’s Curse by Deb Marlow follows Tamsyn, one of the daughters of the new Earl of Banfield. She and Gryffyn had met years before, but a big misunderstanding tore them apart. Now with the gift (or curse) from the pixies of being able to tell when a man is lying, maybe Tamsyn will see just who she can count on. As soon as they realize how the misunderstanding came about, sparks fly again. With help from one of the castle's many ghosts, the couple is able to figure out who the bad guy really is.

In A Ghost of a Chance by Kate Pearce, Violet and her half-sister Letty are at the castle as their father is one of the people called to the will reading. Also on hand are Violet's step-mother's cousins and close family friends Charlie and Edwin. Violet has been in love with Charlie most of her life, but the handsome playboy just thinks of her as a best friend, and now he has fallen in love with Letty. Edwin hopes this will be his opportunity to get Violet to look at him as more than a friend, since he has admired her for years. The castle's romantic Tudor-era ghost decides to help Violet by devising a series of perilous situations where Charlie can rescue Violet and discover his love for her. Thankfully for Violet, Edwin is able to rescue her because Charlie is too preoccupied with Letty. Sometimes, people just need a little shove to see who their real love should be!

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

A Dance With the Devil by Michelle Willingham
This story will suck you in from the start as soon as the ghosts start their magic. I loved that there is more about the castle and a mystery to solve that I couldn't figure out until it was revealed. There is a ghost that will make you laugh with everything he does to help along the way. There are many secrets surrounding Jane and the castle and they can shock you. The library scene was my favorite and I could picture it perfectly.

Jane is a very sweet girl that fears what happened to her mother will happen to her. I loved that she didn't believe in ghosts, but also didn't ignore them when they did something. She never thought her life would be turned upside down when she joined her friends family at the castle.

Devon was a very open man. He felt the ghosts and listened to them. I loved his nickname even though it didn't seem to match him most of the time. He thought about others first and realized that sometimes he needed to listen to his heart instead of his mind. I also liked that he didn't blink at Jane's past.

I was glad to see that the new earl was a good guy and treated Jane like one of his daughters even if he didn't always show it.

Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse by Deb Marlowe
You know it will be a great story when pixies are involved. This one was really magical and captivating from the start. I loved that the pixies were actually involved in everything and little Paul was able to do something for his mama. The backstory was great and made perfect sense to everything. I loved everything about it from beginning to end and was on the edge of my seat towards the end afraid of what might happen. Her gift of seeing the truth was perfect.

Tamsyn was great from the start. She may have held a grudge because of what happened in the past, but she wasn't going to be rude and wanted to clear the air right away. I loved that she didn't run from her gift and realized it would come in handy.

Gryff was quick to judge, but he was just as quick to see he was wrong. I loved that he didn't blink an eye at her gift because of his family and that he believed in everything. He never lied and had nothing to hide like he was an open book.

I got chills when it came to the darkness she saw with the one man and wanted to know what it was and why it was there. I liked getting to know her family a bit more and his family said great.

A Ghost of a Chance by Kate Pearce
I loved seeing Benedict again and how he helped along the way in his odd, but fun way. It was a good story and liked it, but it just wasn't my style. I liked that they had known each other for years and the way they were so straight forward with talking to each other. I did like the rescues and how there were two love stories going on and they were meant to be.

Violet was blinded by a love she has had for years and doesn't see Charlie's childish personality and that he see's her as a sister. That love made her blind to what was right in front of her and she almost missed it forever. She put her everyone else's happiness first.

Edwin seemed very uptight because of his responsibility to his family and his brother. He was always protecting his brother but realized he had to stop and let him prove himself. He didn't always know how to show his emotions and it clear what he thought.

They were a unique couple and meant for each other. They needed each other to come out of the shadows of their siblings.

This is the second in a series of of books dealing with Castle Keyvnor and what happens there. In this volume, the novellas are written by Deb Marlowe and two new (to me)authors Michelle Willingham and Kate Pearce.
The first story by Michelle Willingham starts out by saying "They say Castle Keyvnor is haunted.""Don't be silly, the's no such things as ghosts." Could there ever be an opening to a book that dared you to deny everything is said. In this story, Jane Hawkins comes to the Castle as a companion to Marjorie (the daughter of the new Earl). Little does she know, she is actually there because she is included in the will. Jane is the adopted daughter of a vicar. She doesn't belong in this gathering of Lords and Ladies. Then she meets the handsome Devon Lancaster, 4th son of the Viscount Newbury. There is no possibility of a match between them, he needs to marry an heiress. But the attraction is there.
For some reason, someone seems to be after Jane. First, she is locked in the wine cellar (with Devon of coursse) then on a wlak back from town, she is grabbed by a servant and almost tossed over a cliff. Luckily Devon came just in time to save her. Why is Jane really at Castle Keyvnor? Why is the servant trying to scare her off? You'll have to read the story to find out. Jane and Devon seem like an unikely couple but they fight the odds to get to their happily ever after.
The second story is written by Deb Marlowe. It starts earier than the will reading when Lady Tamsyn is only 15. She is visiting the castle with her family and meets a local lad Gryff. They strike up a friendship and Tamsyn goes to meet him in pixie territory. While she is walking to meet Gryff, a local pixie causes some havoc and Tamsyn is inadvertantly knocked into the pond. If that isn't bad enough, the pixie, Tuft, starts laughing. Tamsyn thinks it is Gryff who is laughing t her and she runs home and never wants to see him again.
Fast forward 8 years and Tamsyn has returned as the daughter of the new Earl. Gryff is also at the Castle because he has been included in the will. When the two meet there is tension in the air because each thinks the other ruined their meeting. When Paul, a ghost from teh castle tells Tuft what he has done he gives Tamsyn the gift of being able to see what men are really thinking. At first this is a confusing gift but when a Mr Ravencourt shows up to meet with her father, she is able to see that something is wrong and strong enough to brek his evil magic. This story was well written and the characters were interesting and the pixies were colorful. This is a little something different from the ghosts and haunting that are in the other storeis.
In the final story by Kate Pearce, Benedict the ghost (who was beheaded by Henry VIII) decides to take it upon himself to help with a little matchmaking. Violet DeLisle is attending the will reading with her family which includes her half-sister Letitia. Letty is the sister that everyone loves, she is having her first season and she has been pushed forward while Violet is the smart, most-likely to become a spinster sister.
The two sisters are attracted to the two Sutton brothers. Edwin is the heir, serious and responsible. Charlie is the lovable younger brother, a rake who loves nothing better than gambling and drinking. OF course, Letty' s mother wants her to go after Edwin but she seems to be attracted to Charlie. Violet has been in love with Charlie since she was younger but she is good friends with Edwin. Violet and Edwin each try to "help" the other to attract their sibling. What Violet doesn't realize is that Edwin is attrated to her not her sister and Charlie would make her a horrible husband.
Violet, gets matchmaking help from Benedict but every time he says he is helping her with Charlie, instead she is rescued by Edwin. The two have more in common than Violet sees. They both have younger siblings that everyone loves leaving them to be the serious (not fun) older sibling.
Benedict has his work cut out for him getting these two couples together correctly but as the Bard says "alls well that ends well.' This was a fun story of misunderstandings and the right brother ends up with the right sister all thanks to a ghost. So not all hauntings are scary or to be avoided.

Michelle Willingham's A Dance With the Devil
Devon Lancaster, fourth son of Viscount Newbury is fascinated by the beautiful vicar's daughter but he must marry an heiress. Jane Hawkins best friend of Lady Marjorie Hambly has travelled with the new Earl of Banfield’s family for the will reading. Castle Keyvnor is haunted & Jane finds herself talking about the Banfield family history with a man dressed up in Tudor costume. Devon also sees Benedict who is trying to help Devon & Jane’s attraction for each other But when she is locked in the cellar with Devon, she finds that the Devil of Lancaster sets her blood on fire. The chemistry between Devon & Jane sizzles, the novella had a good pace & it made me smile. It’s the first book I’ve read by the author & I’ll be looking for other books by her. 5 stars

Deb Marlowe's Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse
Lady Tamsin Hambly is the new Earl of Banfield’s eldest daughter. She visited Castle Keyvnor about 10 years ago where she met a local landowner Gryffyn Cardew but she fell into a stream & heard laughter & she thought it was Gryffin but in fact was Tuft, a pixie. On her return she discovers that she can see the truth behind the lies that men tell. Has she inherited a curse? In fact it is Tuft trying to rectify the humiliation he caused her. All she wanted on arrival at Keyvnor was to avoid Gryffyn but in a sea of lies, he is the one who always tells her the truth. Yet another delightful short story that had me smiling. Ideal for whiling away a few hours 5 stars

Kate Pearce’s A Ghost of a Chance
Violet DeLisle is secretly delighted to have the opportunity to meet up with some of the more obscure branches of her family tree. She’s been in love with her stepmother’s second cousin, Charlie Sutton, since she was a child. However Letty her beautiful half-sister has clearly set her sights on Charlie and he is obviously dazzled. Forced to hide from the lovebirds, she huddles under the stairs where she meets Benedict, the Tudor ghost. Benedict offers to help her find true love. Edwin, Charlie’s eldest brother & heir to Viscountcy has been in love with Violet for years but although they are friends she only sees Charlie. Another well written, easy reading novella that again made me smile at the attempts Benedict made ‘to help’ Violet. 5 stars

The second three stories in a four book series making twelve novellas in total about the relatives & friends gathering for the Earl Of Banfield’s will reading at Castle Keyvnor in Cornwell. The six hundred year old castle has seen its share of history & is haunted. These are three well-written novellas that kept me engrossed plus they all made me smile. I really enjoy the way the authors work together to intertwine their stories. Definitely stories I will revisit

The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor is a collection of 4 books, each containing three novellas by different authors, the stories all taking place in and around the notoriously haunted Castle Keyvnor during the gathering of the family and friends of the recently deceased Jonathan Hambly, the Earl of Banfield, for the reading of his will. The books can be read in any order, as all the stories take place concurrently. It's a charming device because while each story is a standalone complete unto itself, many of the same characters appear and reappear in each of the novellas, so we get to observe them in different circumstances. All the stories have a little (or a lot) of supernatural flavor, with ghosts, pixies, demons and the like either aiding, thwarting or trying to murder the main characters. Having a collection like this is as delightful as going to a Tapas bar and sampling fabulously prepared tidbits of food—the tastings make you want more! I definitely plan to seek out more works by some of the authors who I'd never read before. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the collections.

Michelle Willingham's "A Dance With the Devil"
Jane Hawkins, the Vicar's adopted daughter, believes she was asked to attend the reading of the late Earl of Banfield's will simply to be a companion to the new Earl's daughter. When several attempts are made on her life, Devon Lancaster gallantly offers his protection. They find themselves getting closer than they ought to as Devon needs to marry an woman of means to rescue his poverty stricken estate, and Jane is no heiress. But events satisfyingly work out to an HEA with the help of a matchmaking ghost!

Deb Marlowe's "Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse"
Lady Tamsyn's future is ruined by a pixie with a wicked laugh, who gives her a gift as an apology eight years after the fact. The gift allows her to fight back against an evil hundreds year old sorcerer with an agenda of his own and at the same time, to reawaken the love between her and Gryff, the man who she unfairly believed humiliated her years before. Well written and well constructed, the HEA is satisfyingly creative. I really enjoyed this story.

Kate Pearce’s "A Ghost of a Chance"
Violet DeLisle unknowingly enlists the aid of Benedict, one of Castle Keyvnor's resident ghosts, to win her "true love." Delightful blend of Regency romance and a spooky gothic castle. Perfect for Halloween.

This is a boxed set of 3 novellas, and it is part of a series of four boxed sets released at same time. For all of these boxed sets, the backstory is the same: a group of British nobility descend on a haunted castle on the shore of Cornwall to hear the reading of a will and perhaps find some husbands and wives. Then love and supernatural stuff ensue. Each of the individual novellas explores what is happening to 2 or 4 of these people.

I love how the authors of the different stories refer to characters from the other stories. Even if you were only interested in only one of these 3 authors, I recommend reading the whole boxed set because it leads to a more enriching and fun experience. I got the book primarily to read Deb Marlowe's novella, but I was also extremely pleased with Michelle Willingham's story. Now I will separately review the three novellas.

1.) "A Dance with the Devil" by Michelle Willingham: 5 stars! Utterly charming! I loved this story; it was a perfect Halloween read. The main characters were intelligent and loveable. They had some fun and spooky Gothic-style adventure. FYI, it starts off very chaste but gets really steamy toward the end.

2.) "Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse" by Deb Marlowe. 5 stars! Delightful! Cornish pixies, a nice ghost, and an evil sorcerer all set in a haunted castle on a windswept coast. I absolutely adore this story. I love the honest Gryff and his intrepid heroine Lady Tamsyn. FYI, this story was more sweet than steamy; there was one vague love scene that was not graphic. This novella was filled with a magic of the Cornish coast. It had a good bit of fantasy. The characters of Tuft the pixie and Jump, his animal friend, were totally cool. I have been a fan of Deb Marlowe's work for a while, and this is now one of my favorite stories by her.

3.) "Ghost of a Chance" by Kate Pierce. 3 stars. This had a stupid, farcical, cliched plot that was barely livened up by throwing in a nice ghost. Violet is a smart young woman but her naivety really got on my nerves. She and Charlie have nothing to talk about and he is clearly intellectually inferior, but she pines to become his wife. However, she doesn't recognize that her best friend Edwin, who is Charlie's older brother, is strong, attractive, intelligent, and has been longing for her for years. Violet persists in her stupidity way too long in the story, and I got fed up. The ghost was the best character, and the romance fell flat.

3.5 stars rounded to 4
Lovely set that included sweet to more spicy stories. I loved that they all had the feeling of stand alones yet the characters connected within each story.

In A Dance With the Devil Jane, a vicar’s daughter, thinks she’s only a companion to her friend. However as the days go by she realizes there is much to her past she needs to know. All the while a ghost tries to help our hero Devon to win her heart and protect her from harm. This story had the perfect amount of mystery and romance. I only wish it would have been longer because the hero and heroine back stories deserved more attention. This was my first read from this author but I’ll definitely be reading more from her.

Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie’s Curse was a story of second chances. Tamsyn and Gryff were apart for the longest thinking the worst of each other. Circumstances place them at the same place at the same time and they have a chance to fix their problems. All the while, Tamsyn receives a special gift that makes her see more than she wants to and believes herself to be cursed. However with the help of Gryff (and other special friends) she realizes such gift could help her defeat dark forces attempting to take over Gryff's family inheritance. Even though the magical aspect was a bit too much for me, the romance was sweet and it was still a nice an enjoyable read.

A Ghost of a Chance was a sweet and funny read. I don’t think there’s been anything I haven’t liked by this author so far. Violet thinks herself to be the dull sister that doesn’t deserve the love of charming Charlie. Edwin on the other hand believes her to be the most deserving of admiration. Charlie seems to be besotted by Violet’s younger sister, Letty, all the while Violet believes Edwin is in love with Letty. Add to that a ghost that likes to help matters of the heart but instead complicates things. The story was short but the romance and ending were plenty satisfying.

BEDEVILED, The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor includes:
Kate Pearce’s A Ghost of a Chance
Deb Marlowe's Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse
Michelle Willingham's A Dance With the Devil

Review:

This was a nice change of ghost stories since I had just read a scary one with no romance. In these stories all the ghosts are helping the couples find love in their own ways.

I had originally picked up this anthology to read Kate Pearce's story in it, but I have to say I read all of them and loved them. They each revolve around characters who have come to the castle for the reading of the will. I will not go into each of the stories because they short and I would end up giving away most of their plots. I will say each had fun and interesting storylines and characters with just the right amount of spice and romance. All were excellently written and one was a new-to-me Author, Michelle Willingham, but I would definitely look for more of all of their works.

I have to say I did not know about this series of anthologies around Keyvnor Castle and I am intrigued enough by these stories to seek out the other anthologies.

Enchanting and engaging romances with just the right amount of supernatural to go with the season.

5Stars

"Bedeviled" The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor Book 2. This is a series of short stories that total to about 240 pages. It covers a few couples and how they were brought together in the Haunting of Castle Keyvnor.
1. Michelle Willingham's A Dance With the Devil: Jane Hawkins and Devon Lancaster find themselves attracted to each other...but can they be together? Jane is attending a gathering with her friend when her shawl is blown away to land at Devon's feet. Later another mishap happens where they are thrown together again. Devon is the fourth son of a Viscount and is there along with his friends. But Devon wants to feel something for his future wife but money is also something he was looking for.
2. Deb Marlowe's Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse: Gryff and Lady Tamsyn met first when they were young and liked each other back then. But a misunderstand caused by a Pixie set them apart. Now they are meeting up again... will things be different this time.
3. Kate Pearce’s A Ghost of a Chance: Violet and Edwin are thrown together when they to join the others at the castle. Violet thinks she is in love with Charlie who is Edwin's brother. This is a nice collection of stories that are great for this time of year for Halloween!

These 3 novellas are part of a series of 4 books containing 12 novellas that have related characters, who are all attending the reading of a will at the estate of the deceased Earl of Banfield. Each novella can be read as a standalone story.
Kate Pearce’s A Ghost of a Chance: Violet DeLisle hopes that she will finally be able to spend enough time with her stepmother’s second cousin, Charlie, for him to realize he returns the feelings she has for him. But he only has eye for her beautiful half-sister. While hiding to avoid an awkward encounter with them, she meets a kindred spirit who not only turns out to be a rather feisty ghost, but a master of courtship. This was a cute, fun story.
Deb Marlowe's Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse: Lady Tamsyn seems to have acquired the ability see the truth behind the lies that men tell. All she wanted to do when she arrived at the estate was to avoid Mr. Gryffyn Cardew, but he is the only one who tells her nothing but the truth. With pixies and other strange beings along with a romance, this was a great story.
Michelle Willingham's A Dance With the Devil: Devon Lancaster is fascinated by the beautiful vicar's daughter, Jane Hawkins. She knows that her poverty will prevent her from finding a husband among the men at the estate. They find themselves locked in a cellar together and sparks ignite! This was a well-written, enjoyable story.

A book of fun stories and a great way to spend a relaxing weekend.

Michelle Willingham’s A Dance with the Devil – 4
Intrigue, hauntings, a cellar, a kiss….Devon and Jane are drawn to one another however Jane feels she cannot marry Devon, after all he is the son of a viscount. The spirits of Castle Keyvnor decide differently. A very sweet and sexy story. One wish, it was longer.

Deb Marlowe’s Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie’s Curse - 3
For me, this short story was not really a romance but more of a fun fantasy with a romantic element thrown in. A misunderstanding tears apart Tamsyn and Gryff all due to a pixie’s mischievousness. When the pixie decides to make things right, all sort of strangeness ensues. A fun story. There is a very endearing moment when the pixie asks Tamsyn to decide if she wants to keep her gift. Have to admit I teared up.

Kate Pearce’s A Ghost of a Chance - 4
Unrequited love. Oh Edwin, he longs for Violet but she only has eyes for his brother Charlie. And who would not, Charlie is fun, outrageous, sexy, and unfortunately immature. A ghostly troubadour has a different plan for Violet. I loved this story. Kate Pearce has a way of telling a story that keeps you enthralled. My favorite scene is when Edwin decides to show Violet his feelings by the tree. Swoon. As with a lot of short stories, I wish this one was longer.

I will say it again, I am a Kate Pearce fan!! I really read the book because of the last story in the Bedeviled book, A Ghost of a Chance by Kate Pearce. I love Kate and really liked the story. Obviously this book is a book of shorts/novella stories that all are ghost related. When reading Ghost of a Chance about Violet, Edwin, Charlie and Letty. Violet and Letty have known Edwin and Charlie for a long time, grew up together and in Violet's head she was in love with Charlie, the young, dashing man who was a womanizer, a drinker and a gambler. While all along, Edwin was by her side, noticing her, watching out for her, etc. It takes a series of situations set in motion by her friend Benedict to make her take notice of the older, wiser, brother Edwin. It was a great story with a little twist in the end. I wish or hope that Kate would take this book a little further and make it a full-length or have a full-length book to finish off the story. I felt like I was wanting more at the end.

Benedict makes appearances in more than one of the stories in Bedeviled. I think the authors did a great job of writing stories that had characters that intertwined a little and made me wanting more. Since this was a first for me with regards to reading Deb Marlowe and Michelle Willingham, I will definitely look forward to reading more.

A Ghost of a Chance: Violet has loved Charlie for years. The problem is that Charlie is in love with her half sister. Charlie's brother Edwin is in love with Violet. Now they are all together for the reading of the will and Violet has a ghost helping her get her true love. Is her true love Charlie?
Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse: Tamsyn's father has inherited Castle Keyvnor. She hasn't been there for 8 years. She had a humiliating experience the last time and was not looking forward to going back. Things aren't always what they seem and she spent 8 years being mad at Gryff for something he didn't do. Can they mend their rift and prevent a tragedy? They can with the help from some a ghost and a pixie.
A Dance With the Devil: Devon is there for the reading of the will even though he isn't inheriting anything. Jane is a Vicar's daughter and is just there as a friend. Devon needs a wife with money, but the Vicar's daughter is so tempting. He really needs to leave her alone and find someone who can help him with his estate, but he just can't leave her alone.

This was a great collection of Halloween stories, which included a matchmaking ghost and pixies.
A Dance with the Devil is a great story about falling in love as opposed to making a advantageous match. It contains the match-making ghost and a most unlikely couple getting their happy ending.
Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse is a heartwarming story about lost loves. It contains pixies, the sight and a ghost. It is a fun story with a twist at the end.
A Ghost of a Chance is the story of the charming man’s older boring brother and the beautiful girl’s older sister. It shows the complications of having popular beautiful siblings. It also contained the match-making ghost with many misunderstandings between the characters.
The stories had great characters with many twist and turns. The supernatural elements were ofter funny and added so much to the stories. I enjoyed the stories and look forward to reading more of the series.

This anthology centers around the people that gather at Castle Keyvnor after the death of the late Earl of Banfield and the reading of his will. "A Dance with the Devil" by Michelle Willingham finds the plain vicar's daughter, Jane Hawkins, attracted to handsome Devon Lancaster. "Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse" by Deb Marlowe reunites Lady Tamsyn Banfield and Mr. Gryffyn Cardew years after their unfortunate meeting in the fairy vale and lay aside incorrect assumptions. Edwin Sutton will need help from any source for his courtship of Violet DeLisle to be successful in "A Ghost of a Chance" by Kate Pearce. These are all delightful stories linked together by the heirs of the late Earl and their visit to the castle.

I look forward to reading more stories by these individual authors.

Another fine collection continues The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor series.
A Dance with the Devil: has Devon falling in love with a penniless vicars daughter rather than finding an heiress which he needs.
Lady Tamsyn and the Pixie's Curse: is a story about a lost love and forgiveness. There's also helpful pixies and a loveable ghost.
A Ghost of a Chance: Is a story of two brothers and one young women and a ghost who wants to help her find her true love. One of the brothers is a little wild and only has eyes for her beautiful sister and the other is older and boring in comparison. The ghost plays match-maker in this entertaining story.
I loved the supernatural twist in these stories, they added fun and great entertainment.
I enjoyed this collection very much and would highly recommend it!

This review is for Ghost of a Chance by Kate Pearce.

When Kate Pearce's name is on a story, I know it's going to be good. This story was no exception.

This was a cute, sweet and even a bit whimsical at times story about a woman who, with the help of her friend Benedict, sets out to make the man of her dreams (or who she thinks should be the man of her dreams) fall in love with her. When a ghost is involved, what could possibly go wrong?

Even though the story was very short, the characters were developed nicely and I was engaged from the start. I finished the story in a very short period of time. If you are looking for a fun, light, afternoon read, look no further.

Kate Pearce’s story in this anthology revolves around Violet, who thinks she is in love with Charlie, without realizing that Edwin (Charlie’s brother) has a tendre for her. Charlie only has eyes for Violet’s step-sister.

When Violet receives assistance from Benedict to nudge Charlie in her favor, things don’t go as planned. Edwin is the one who always comes to her rescue and she starts seeing him in a different way, they have known each other for so long that she didn’t see him as anything but a friend. Benedict knows that all will end will in the end.

Truly enjoyed this story, very lively characters had me reading the story in one sitting.

I have not read the other two stories, but once I do, will come back and update my review.
