Rate this book
Understanding how to design systems to run in the cloud has never been more important than it is today. Cloud computing is rapidly transitioning from a niche technology embraced by startups and tech-forward companies to the foundation upon which enterprise systems build their future. In order to compete in today’s marketplace, organizations large and small are embracing cloud architectures and practices.

Decent coverage of the 12-factor app and some additional things to consider. Not much more here than you'd get in a couple of blog posts.

Some of the extra factors feel a little tenuous (why authentication and authorisation and not other security considerations?) and others could do with more exploration (eg admin/management functions)

It would probably have worked better with more definition and discussion of PaaS up front and then letting that shape what followed. And there's really no need to reference "private cloud" at the end.

Overall, this was worth a quick read but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to others who already know the principles.

Short and to the point, updated "12 factors" for 2016. A 2019 version would have these factors ramp to k8s principles. Provides a good snapshot of the continued evolution of SOA to microservices and to cloud native.

Good explanation, friendly reminder, and precise reiteration over the concept of Twelve-Factor App and expanding that into 15 concise guidelines. I could end here, as this book is really short and on the point - but I'd like to emphasise that it is really pragmatic, and that resonates with my viewpoint on the subject even more.

This book is an overview of principles on how to approach structuring apps for cloud deployment. It just touches on the principles and does not provide any insight into actual deployment. It was a short read and free from the publisher web site, so I gave it a three.

Good explanation of the 12 factors of cloud native apps and a good way to get rid of the buzzwords.

You can think of this book as an expanded version of the original Twelve Factor App book, it present more examples on one side and add a couple more factors on the other side.

Ona bad thing about the book is the footnotes, they are really bad and seems like someone is trying badly to add extra information but it's not working specially the numbering for these notes.

At the end I find it as a nice read on the cloud-native topic where you learn some new concepts and techniques to help you maintain the app in a better way.

Still relevant in 2021, I find it helpful to reread and refresh this short book when starting new projects or reviewing architecture and code.

Decent reading for anyone heading toward moving some apps into cloud. Covers well known 12 cloud native app factors + some added (extended) by author. I would probably advice reading this to anyone who never developed a cloud-based application and is setting to do it now. Keep in mind this is short, preliminary reading though.

Not in-depth, but contains good head ups for ones that are only used with basic programming skills and want to know what to study further in order to create great modern applications.

It also provides a good starting point and introduces the reader to the "buzzwords" of the cloud and explains the 12 factors and some extra. Who needs to understand the topics better can simply take some other books or courses that focus only on each principle presented. Or he can try to explore them in practice.
