He’s a roughhewn bastard. She’s a rebellious noblewoman. Their passion bridges the class divide in a scintillating novel of forbidden desire and raw sensuality from the USA Today bestselling author of To Lure a Proper Lady.
Lady Caroline Wilde is expected to ride sidesaddle, but she’s not about to embrace convention. She’s also expected to keep a chaste distance from men like Adrian Crosby, the new estate agent, yet she cannot cease her ogling—which is especially irksome considering their ongoing feud. Adrian insists that the fields must be planted; Caro needs those same fields to train her horses. But whenever she tries to put him in his place, Caro looks into his steely gaze and her words simply ... disappear.
A bastard son who grew up on the Wyvern estate, Adrian was lucky enough to receive an education at the behest of the late marchioness. Now that he has set out on his own, Adrian knows better than to fall for Lady Caroline, the Duke of Sherrington’s daughter. Caroline is at once a thorn in his side and an exquisite temptation, especially when she’s playing the feisty daredevil. Adrian would give anything for a chance to tame her—and with Caro in the saddle, he just might get his wish.
Ashlyn lives in the wilds of suburbia outside Montreal with her husband and two teenaged daughters. When not writing, she looks for other excuses to neglect the housework, among them knitting, reading and wasting time on the internet in the guise of doing research.
(un)conventionally short: Caro and Adrian weren't supposed to even meet. Needless to say, they were definitely not supposed to fall in love. To Tame A Wild Lady told a different story, though, and it was delightful! Second in the Duke Defying Daughters series, this story made my toes curl in pleasure.
I so love an unconventional lady. Especially when she doesn't care what society thinks, and just goes after what she wants. And desperately needs. Macnamara managed to make me feel connected to the characters in To Tame a Wild Lady. And she also brought out the feels. How could she not, when Caro not only managed to be strong-minded, but tender-hearted too? Adrian was a perfect match for her, and it was a pleasure to get to know them both.
But Caro understood why such a view might be considered scandalous - or even forbidden. There was something essential and elemental to watching a man perform physical labor.
'To Tame a Wild Lady' by Ashlyn Macnamara is book Two in the "Duke-Defying Daughters" series. This is the story of Lady Caroline Wilde and Adrian Crosby. I have read the previous book "To Lure a Proper Lady" but feel this can be a standalone book. Adrian is a bastard son but was raised with an education. Now Adrian is working as and estate manger for her father. Caro wants only to work with her horses and to train them. Adrian who is trying to help her father get his estate back in good standing feels they need to plant the fields. But these two have to come together to work to help her father. Both are attractive to each other but Adrian feels that Caro isn't for him. This was another great story by Ms. Macnamara! "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."
I had high hopes for To Tame a Wild Lady, especially considering that the first of the series, To Lure a Proper Lady, was one of my favourite books of 2016. That book’s charm was found in its unexpectedly droll but deserving hero finding love with a similarly intelligent woman. In this, the second of Ms. Macnamara’s Duke-Defying Daughters books, it feels as though all of the humor allotted for the series was spent in the previous instalment and what remains is just a similar conflict of family duty verses personal desires.
Caroline Wilde may be a lady but her behavior more often than not would label her a hoyden. Caro’s interests don’t go much further than her father’s stable yard and in persuading a famous sportsman to allow her to join his next great hunt. Fortunately for Caro her father’s hypochondria has kept him bedridden for years and far removed from the actual running of the estate or in pushing her into an unwanted society marriage. The recent exposure of their estate manager’s embezzling of the family wealth doesn’t affect Caro much as long as she can keep her prized mare Boudicca and the open fields on the land for her personal use. That all changes when her brother-in-law hires Adrian Crosby as the new estate manager.
To Tame a Wild Lady is the second book in the Duke-Defying Daughters series by by Ashlyn Macnamara. I haven't read the first book in the series, and although I am sure it will be a great read, it wasn't necessary to read it in order to fully understand and enjoy this one.
Adrian Crosby was born on the wrong side of the blanket, in other words, he is illegitimate. He doesn't even know who his father is. His mother is a tenant of Lord Wyvern, and thankfully the Lord's wife decided to take Adrian under her wing. He was her little project. She wanted to make a little gentleman of him. So while she made sure he had elocution lessons, the estate manager made sure he learned everything there was to learn about managing the estate. It was hoped that one day he would take over the man's job. But circumstances arise which see Adrian having to leave the estate. With a good reference in hand he makes his way to the next nearest estate with the hope of taking on the position of estate manager there.
On his way to his interview there he sees two lads in trouble on the other side of an irrigation ditch, it's raining a downpour and both boys are covered in mud. At first he thinks they are fighting but he soon realises that one of them is lifeless and the other is struggling to help him. He immediately jumps into action, and it isn't long before he realises that only one of the lads is indeed a lad. The other one is a shapely woman. Why she is in breeches, very wet form fitting breeches, he has no idea, but he certainly likes what he is seeing. He helps her back to her home with the unconscious boy. He is really taken with her, and thinks she is just a servant at the estate.
He is shocked to find out that she is actually Lady Caroline Wilde, daughter of the Duke of Sherrington, the very man whose estate he wants to work on. Caroline is a most determined character, a bit self centred and fully focused on being allowed to ride in the male orientated sport of Hunting. She's keeping land vital to the prosperity of the estate for herself. Using it for training her horse, and she wants to invite important people to ride on the land too. She wants to prove to them all that she is a good rider so that one of them puts a good word in for her to the Lord of the Hunt. Nothing matters as much to her except riding in the hunt. Not just for her sake but for all women who might want to ride in hunts too.
Caroline is attracted to Adrian, but for the most part it reminds me very much of the rich lady wanting her bit of 'rough'. She has no plans for marriage or children, but would very much like to have a roll in the hay with Adrian. He would like that too, but he knows nothing could ever come of their relationship because he is just a member of staff, and he doesn't want to be just a 'roll in the hay'. When he may be tempted by Caroline's come hither looks he has to keep reminding himself that if he gives in, and is found out, not only will Caroline be ruined, but he will lose his much needed job. Can they be more than just employee and employer?
This was a nice romance story with a couple of great subplots that kept the story exciting. One of them involved Caroline's beautiful horse and a man who will do anything to get it from her. All in all this story was lovely, it didn't have the wow factor for me, but I still enjoyed reading it and look forward to the next book in the series.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher*
I liked this book much better than the last one! I am still not jazzed that the author likes to have her heroines chase down the hero - but in this book, it works.
Lady Caroline aka Caro was introduced to us in the last book. She is the middle sister and to put it politely, a hoyden. She cares more for horses than she does people and has no desire to change.
Adrian has come to the estate to take over as steward, he has left his former position as assistant steward to the Marquess of Wyvern for personal reasons. The Duke of Sherrington is in desperate need of a good steward, the former steward was robbing the estate blind and Adrian has his work cut out for him, restoring the families holdings.
Adrian and Caro meet when they work together to rescue Gus (the son of Dysart, the hero from the previous book). Adrian mistakes Caro for a stable hand, then realizes that she is a woman. He is attracted to her and wonders about her position on the estate. When he finds out who she is, he tells himself to keep his distance. For her part, Caro is intrigued by Adrian, she is also conscious of their social differences and tells herself to stay away too. But the best intentions...
Caro and Adrian are thrown together on several occasions and form a friendship of sorts - they are both attracted to each other, but realize they can have no future.
When they finally "get together" Caro knows she is in love with him. She is ready to give up everything to be with him and then a ghost from Adrian's past shows up and causes problems. Problems which end up getting Adrian fired from his position.
Caro is heartbroken when Adrian leaves, but feels that it is hopeless to pursue him. Her sisters convince her to go after him and swear to stand by her.
The scene where Caro and Adrian reunite is really well done and I loved it!
Now I am totally invested in this series and can't wait to find out who Pippa is match with and I wouldn't mind a story for Snowley as well!
She was 'a temptation, a challenge, and utterly off-limits.'
'It is a truth universally acknowledged that a daughter of a duke is raised to believe she can do as she dashed well pleases, which may lead her into all manner of difficulty.' (from To Lure a Proper Lady). These are words from Lady Elizabeth's pen, and so pertinent to the Duke of Sherrington's second daughter, Lady Caroline Wilde. Caroline refuses to ride side saddle, instead rides astride in a pair of men's breeches. Startling indeed! Indeed Adrian Crosby's introduction to Caro is on a rainswept day when he mistakes her for a youth attempting to help another youngster who's fallen from a horse. And yet Caro knows she can't do what she dash well pleases, even though she will give it her best shot. There is only so far she can go to breach the men's only circle of the hunt and she dearly wants to be allowed to ride with the illusive Sir Bellingham who conducts one of the best-known hunts in England. This is Caroline's all important goal--to be allowed to join the hunt. I am so enjoying these Duke Defying Daughters! I love this family. First we had Elizabeth's story, now we have Caroline's. Caroline, the horse mad hellion whose desires are centred around being able to ride with the hunt something women can't do. Add to that the fact that the wicked Pendleton is still in the picture, still coveting Caro's horse Bodeccia, bodes no good for Caroline. Introducing into the mix the new land agent for the Duke's estate in Suffolk, Sherrington Manor--a land agent determined to try to get the property back on its feet, even if Caroline's horse training land should revert to being used for crops. Caroline has other plans. She didn't count on the electric attraction between the two. (After reading this I reread Elizabeth and Dysart's story, To Lure a Proper Lady, the first in the series and enjoyed it just as much the second time around.) To Tame a Wild Lady is a wonderful roller coaster ride of thwarted desires, mysterious happenings and reluctant duties.
I enjoyed this book more than the first one in this series. It may be because I was horse mad when I was younger and understand Lady Caroline's obsession with riding. She's determined to ride her wonderful jumper in a hunt. Only ladies don't ride in hunts. Adrian Crosby has taken the job as estate manager on the Sherrington estate after the previous manager stole from the Duke. He wants to make the estate more profitable by planting the fields that lay empty. Caroline wants those fields for her hunt. Their mutual attraction and conflicts make a very enjoyable read. I look forward to younger sister Pippa's story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC. Release date is January 31st.
I loved the feisty and sassy side of Caro, "she sat taller in the saddle, spine perfectly straight. “When hell freezes and the devil dons a pair of ice skates.” The reactions Caro gets out of Adrian, "he choked on his wine, coughing and spluttering for a good minute before he collected himself. “What do you know of orgies?” I loved this book, Caro beat to her own drum.
A new twist to a historical romance that will add enjoyment for the reader. Caro is a very strong willed woman who constantly pushes the bar on propriety in the era in which she lived. For me it was enjoyable watching the tension and verbal back and forth between her and Adrian. Caro is not your typical women and she is extremely comfortable with herself. This attitude comes across the pages and draws the reader into the storyline.
Adrian is a social stigma with a very solid belief system of working hard and making solid business decisions. His strong moral fiber gets him in trouble and his stubbornness pushes everyone's buttons. What I like about him is that he always puts what's right before what's easy. This is a lesson everyone should learn
The reader will find the interaction between Caro's family members entertaining and her father priceless. With every story, there must be a character the reader doesn't like and of course the character is this story is written to exacting perfection.
For me I felt this story was entertaining but there were a few times it felt a little flat but by no means did it take away from my reading enjoyment.
I give this 4 STARS for showing the reader that male characters can be exciting and full of moral fiber.
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Lady Caroline is the second daughter of a duke and she's more of a wild child than dutiful daughter. Caroline aka Caro fights against the strict constricts placed on young ladies of the ton. She is not interested in gossip or drinking tea with other young ladies. She wants to ride astride on her spirited horse and race like the wind across the fields. Adrian Crosby is chafing at his own constraints, but when he's hired at the manor as the land agent, sparks fly between him and Caro. Adrian fights the attraction because of their stations and this sets up the conflict in most of the book.
I enjoyed this story and especially liked Adrian. He was a caring man who does everything in his power to resist the charms of Caro. They both struggle against their growing attraction and this sets up most of the conflict in the story. Throw in a disreputable gentleman who is determined to acquire Caro's filly at any means and a silly heir to the duke and the cast is nicely rounded out. However, I did not care for how the duke's heir was portrayed as such a timid and ridiculous character. I thought that was a little over the top. All in all, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to fans of regency romances.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I enjoyed this book. I'd really give it more like 3.5 stars, but that isn't a choice and it was good enough to round up to 4 rather than down to 3. It was slow and steady with no really exciting, threatening, suspenseful times. It just told a straightforward story of a romance between two people who came from two very different stations in society. She was the daughter of a duke and he was the estate agent and a bastard. I know this description sounds dull, but it really wasn't. However, if you like a heart-stopping kidnapping or robberies by bandits, etc. this book isn't for you.
I really liked and admired Adrian Crosby. He is all the things you'd want a hero in a romance novel to be: caring, protective, thoughtful, considerate, honest, up-front -- and well -- a hunk to boot! Adrian rescued Caro (Lady Caroline) and her nephew when he was on his way to her father's estate to interview for the estate agent position. She was covered in mud and dressed like a stable lad. Boy was he shocked when he was introduced to her later as the daughter of the duke and she was dressed in silks.
I liked Lady Caroline a whole lot less. She was hell-bent on being accepted to ride to the hunt. She put that before everything in her life, even to the detriment of the estate. Their last estate manager was a crook and embezzled much of the estates funds and stole a great many valuable items from the house. In order to recoup and become profitable again, they needed to plant crops on certain fields, but Caro wouldn't allow it because she used it to practice her hunting skills. She gave no thought to anything but herself and what she wanted. I was amazed that she managed to fall in love with Adrian -- but when she fell, she fell hard. There wasn't any great angst in it -- she loved him and believed what he told her. She was even willing to sell her prized hunting horse in order to be able to be with him. So -- she did have her redeeming qualities.
I don't like spoilers, so I won't tell the story step-by-step.
It was a good read and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't so exciting that I couldn't put it down.
"I requested and received this book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher."
To me this was a story of reverse roles where the rogue doing the seducing was the lady and the temptation was the gentleman. We met Caroline in the first installment of the series as the second daughter of the Duke of Sherrington. Although a lady of good breeding, she had no interest in securing a husband and even the prospect of marriage was the least of her concerns. He main concern had always been her horses and more recently to take part in a very important race where only gentlemen were allowed. When Adrian was hired as the new estate agent some of his ideas did not sit well with Caroline because they would affect her horses and because they would only complicate her very private plans to be included in the men-only race she so desperately wanted to be part of.
Caroline and Adrian could sound the typical enemies-to-lovers trope but that could not be farther from the truth. Adrian is one of the most honest, caring, hard-working, loving heroes I’ve read in a long time, thus he really never behaved as an enemy to her; on the contrary, he was always protective and considerate. Every time Caroline tried to sound petulant or gave voice against one of his plans he very patiently explained why he thought his plans would work or simply put her mind at ease with straightforward logic. In other words, he always treated her with respect. Even when feelings for each other were expressed he clearly explained his position could never let him aspire to more with her and that for both their sakes he could not let her love him. I liked how they resolved their love issues and how they reached their HEA. Throughout the book Caroline sounded impetuous, sometimes childish, and way too improper for a lady of her times (blamed it on her father that was never near to keep an eye on his unmarried daughters but was always willing to tell them what to do if he so saw fit) however the fact that she was willing to give up her most valued possession in order to see Adrian happy redeemed her in my eyes. I liked the first one better but this one is still another good read IMHO.
*** I received this book from the author at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.***
I voluntarily read an advanced reading copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley. This is another fun read in the Duke-Defying Daughters series. The Duke of Sherrington's daughters have grown up on his country estate with freedom the average young lady of the ton could only dream about. As such, they have no desire to marry gentlemen of quality and become dutiful society wives. Lady Caroline is a fine horsewoman and wishes to one day ride to hounds with the most prestigious hunt in England, an activity totally unsuitable for a genteel Lady in 1822. Caro is reckless, impetuous, and frankly, needs saving from her own selfish nature. Enter Adrian Crosby, candidate for the position of estate agent. Although he feels the instant attraction between himself and Caro, he knows that even the hint of impropriety would cause him to be out of a position without a reference. Caro doesn't seem to accept this truth; she naïvely believes this is her opportunity to be "ruined" enough to be freed of the expectation and obligation of making an appropriate marriage. Thus begins a dance of attraction, lust, and the usual misunderstandings that finally lead our couple to a happy ending and gives this reader a delightful visit with the Wilde family.
I love this type of Regency romance, about a strong heroine like Caroline who chafes at the strictures placed upon women during that time. And I love a hero like estate agent Adrian who comes to adore the “wildness” and strength in Lady Caroline. Despite the differences in their so-called stations they are drawn to and fall in love with each other. The lively romp they have trying to “do the right thing,” yet fighting their fierce attraction made for an absolutely marvelous romance! A copy of this book was provided to me by NetGalley.
I loved To Tame a Wild Lady. I haven't read book one, but had no trouble reading this as a stand-alone novel. I loved that the heroine was an equestrian, and all the horse-related details felt so real, true, and well-researched. The writing was captivating and the hero and heroine sympathetic and believable. Well done! I look forward to more books by this author.
Lady Carolyn/Caro Wilde was the second daughter of the Duke of Sherrington. Since the kid Gus came to Sherrington manor at the end of the school term he had begged Caro for riding lessons. Gus was seven but wanted to jump the big hedges the way Caro did. Caro wants to join the next great hunt. Caro was determined to be allowed to ride in the male oriented sport of Hunting. Caro was not interested in gossip or drinking tea with other young ladies as was appropriate Gus’s father was married to Caro’s sister. Caro found Gus in a ditch but she was having problems lifting Gus out of the ditch. Then a man rode up named Adrian and said” it appears to me that you need my. help”. Then he realized one of the people in the ditch was a female and told her they had to get the boy to the manor and get a doctor. Caro was blaming herself when Lizzie- her sister said no one actually knew when Gus would wake up. Adrian was born out of wedlock but was raised with an education. Adrian’s mom was a tenant of Lord Wyvern and the Lord’s wife decided to take Adrian under her wing therefore he received an education he learned everything there was to learn about managing an estate .. Adrian was hired to work for Caro’s father as the new estate manager as there had been a recent exposure that the old manager was embezzling the family so then they had needed a new estate manager. Adrian was to get the estate back into good standing. Adrian feels they need to plant the fields. But Caro wants that land to work and train her horses. Caro’s father was in bed most of the time with one imaginary illness after another. Adrian and Caro are attracted to each other. Caro had no plans of marriage or children. I basically enjoyed this story for the most part, it just didn’t WOW me in any way.So I did have mixed feelings about it. It dragged some but not enough to make me want to stop reading. I liked Adrian’s character a lot but wasn’t crazy about Caro who to me was very self centered and selfish. Then all of a sudden she falls in love with Adrian even though they can’t publicly be together but will change herself completely for the man just didn’t sit right with me not realistic as far as I am concerned. This had a pretty good plot. I liked the ins and outs of the story but still had mixed feelings. I would have liked to rate this a 3.5.
Ah, one of my favorite tropes - a young lady and her stable boy. Except, in this case, it was an estate agent. But that just doesn't have the same ring to it. Nonetheless, I sincerely enjoyed the forbidden romance, as unlikely as it appeared to be, even in the end. Both the hero and heroine were fun and courageous, unwilling to let love pass them by.
Lady Caroline Wilde prefers riding astride with the men over sitting in a parlor sipping tea with the ladies. She is bound and determined to prove herself to be as capable as a man, but she is thwarted at every turn. When the new estate agent arrives, she finds an unexpected friend and protector. Adrian Crosby is bastard-born, with a poor mother and an unknown father. His station is beneath Lady Caro's, but there is something about her spirit that calls to him. Despite knowing they could never be together, they begin to fall for each other. Soon a decision must be made between duty and desire.
Caro was such a handful! I loved her spunky character, and her kindness towards other people. Though she was often impulsive and spoke without thinking, she also acknowledged when she was wrong. Adrian was a sweetheart, caring too much in many cases, but his big heart and strong arms made for a warm haven for Caro, who has experienced the rejection of society too often. I loved their romance, though I do find it mostly unrealistic, considering how the story wrapped up. It's very sweet and romantic, but I felt it was a bit beyond the realm of possibility.
This was my first book by this author and surely won't be my last! Highly enjoyable and well written, a pleasure to read.
**I received a free copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
This was a very exciting and thrilling read for all fans. The author has out done herself with a tale of humorous and witty dialog of the characters. I just love these kind of stories where opposites attract. You have one handsome, proper Adrian Crosby who wants to be employed by the Duke of Sherrington. He grew up on the estate of Lord Wyvern who in turn educated him to see to management of the land. His mother being a tenant raised him and of course he is illegitimate. Then one day while riding to his interview he saves two young boys from a drainage ditch because it's raining cats and dogs. One is a boy but the other one is a young woman who is dressed in britches. Adrian is shocked to see this and helps to take the injured lad to the very estate he's suppose to be at. When he gets there he is overcome with fascination that this woman is Lady Caroline Wilde who is the daughter of Lord Sherrington. She is an outspoken hoyden who prefers horses to people. Caro is very strong in her opinions for women and doing things equal to men. She is not afraid of getting her hands dirty in her endeavors. Adrian is very attracted to her and she to him. He knows that nothing can come of their association because of their social stations. But then something wonderful happens. They fall in love anyway. Oh, such a great read and the happy ever after is their destiny. I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.
I love a Regency Romance that isn’t just about the haut ton, relationship dramas, the latest styles, or the properties surrounding the 1800’s. To Take a Wild Lady is a book with a different twist. The Lady Caroline is beautiful, spunky, and knows what she wants. In other words a typical heroine. However, she is also more than that, she is strong, independent and caring. Her ability to admit when she is wrong is so refreshing. Lady Caroline’s main objective is to find a way to be invited to the hunt, and to that end, there isn’t much she wouldn’t do, However, after a while, her single-mindedness got a little tiring, and I did wish she would accept a situation she was unable to change. The hero, Adrian Crosby, was just what I want in a hero. He is extremely honorable, intelligent, and of course, gorgeous. After just being hired as the estate agent for Lady Caroline's household, he is always near by and this makes it easy for our H/h to become better acquainted. Adrian was always there for Caroline, sometimes strong and silent, and other times vocal in his protection of her. I enjoyed watching them cross over the class boundaries and find in each other their soul mate.
Lady Caroline Wilde, known as Caro, was a woman who didn't like to follow rules, starting with her own clothes. Known as a rebellious daughter, in a good way, she and the new land manager of her father, Adrian Crosby, didn't get along at first, but soon Adrian learns to deal with her, mainly because he has the support of her father , The Duke of Sherrington, to face her when she was too stubborn about business matters. The duke's eldest daughter, Lizzy, married, was the one who handled finances.
Adrian was an excellent administrator, having learned everything he knew while working in the lands of the Marquess of Wyvern, but for private matters, which Adrian did not want to tell the duke, he had to leave his former job.
Now Adrian would have to deal with Snowley Wilde, heir to the duchy; Dysart, Lizzy's husband and Caro herself.
When certain secrets of Adrian's past come to light, and when Caro is stubborn to take part in a horse race allowed only to gentlemen, the two didn't imagine that more than problems, they would have a strong attraction to deal with ... and to accept it.

ARC sent by NetGalley in exchange of an honest review
This is book two in Ashlyn Macnamara's Duke-Defying Daughters Trilogy. Lady Caroline Wilde and Adrian Crosby's first meeting was less than sterling to say the least. She is mucking around in the mud, trying to gather up her unconscious nephew, Gus. He is on his way to an interview as estate manager. He aids her in her time of need, getting her and Gus back to the manor. As they spent time together, they learn to appreciate the good attributes each other has, but their stages don't allow anything more than a basic friendship and really not even that much. However, things moved quicky, a bit too quickly to be totally believable. They went from knowing nothing could come of their feelings, basically ignoring each other to planning a tryst in the gamekeeper's cottage. What does the future hold for them? I did enjoy this book, though I liked the previous one better. I do look forward to reading book three, I assume will be Pippa's story. It would be very interesting, can't wait to see who see finds for her. I received this eBook from NetGalley for an honest review
A definite buy buy book! I love the way this author writes. She takes the out of the norm route for her writing and I truly enjoy it! Taking everyday people among the nobility and writing in a manner that brings all worlds together. I will say her characters are engaging. In this particular book the only problem I have is really the heroine and horses talk. I would of like to have seen a heroine that was a little more mature in her fight to have a place in a mans world. The book is not lacking in romance or passion! You will enjoy it. It is an engaging story. I look forward to more from this author in the future. I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom
Lady Caroline takes the lead, as the Wilde sister to be tamed! She's used to riding horses astride, wearing pants and wants to join the hunt. She's independent and doesn't wish to marry and conform to a husband's dictates; but her father wishes her to marry a peer! Adrian arrives to apply for the estate agent position He hasn't title nor money, but he's the first man to affect Lady Caroline! Entertaining, laugh aloud romantic historical! Enjoyed revisiting Sherrington Manor and all it's quirky cast. Romance, mysteries, secrets and well written characters equals an enjoyable read! I voluntarily read an ARC of this book thru Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.
Caro has been allowed to run a bit wild. She is an excellent horsewoman who wants to ride with the men in a hunt. Marriage would mean an end to that. Adrian comes into her life, shows tenderness to a boy he does not know, and tries to help manage the family money. Curiosity and lust pulls Caro to Adrian, and she loses her heart. There are some ups and downs, misunderstandings and good intentions throughout, enough to keep me reading. When Caro took the chance of giving up everything she cared for, I rooted for her to be right. I recommend this story and the series.
I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.
Caroline and Adrian are the perfect match....unfortunately society has a different idea of a perfect couple. I loved the wildness of the story, the bucking against an unfair system that puts people into their different classes and never allows for a crossing of the classes without the threat of banishment from their graces. Caroline may have been born a Duke's daughter but she never let that stop her. I loved her determination and her strong mind that refused to accept her place, refused to be put into her place and smile graciously. She's such a strong character and needed an equally strong partner to bring all the brilliance out and Adrian was up to the challenge.
I loved that Caroline was not you typical society miss! She wore britches and wanted to hunt with the men, but she still had a very feminine side to her. Adrian was a bastard and knew that nothing could ever come of his attraction with Caroline, but when her feeling are just as strong as his, there is no denying themselves.
Another of the duke's daughter falls in love with an inappropriate man, but you can't help who you fall in love with. This was a great addition to the Duke-Defying Daughters series! I excited for the last book in the series!!
So I'm not a huge fan of equestrian stories. I don't know why, they're just not my thing. Daughters of Dukes who fall for men below their station? Totally into it. Daughters of Dukes who fall for men below their station but also talk about how much they love to ride horses? Eh.
Caro and Adrian are steamy, their chemistry is good, their story is engaging. I'll certainly read more from Ashlyn Macnamara in the future. Just as long as it's not about horses.
I was grateful to receive a free copy of To Tame A Wild Lady. I always enjoy a good historical romance. This book was a little on the slow side for me. Adrian and was a great stand up guy, but I couldn't see what his drawl to Lady Caroline was. Some of the character development with Lady Caroline;s family was also lacing in development. Even with these few shortcomings, I still enjoyed reading this book, and would recommend to friends and family.
I got to 43'/. but just couldn't stand the heroine another page. In spite of riding her horse all around the estate she seems not to recognize her own tenants. Worse, when the hero hires a tenant woman to save her from being beaten and threatened with sexual assault, when she's met the woman and seen that she has TWO black eyes, she accuses the hero of having ulterior motives and the victim of having designs on the hero. Right. Seems likely....
