This story is graphic, disturbing and nauseating but on the other hand if you can stomach this conclusion, it’s all very well done. However, I must stress that this was a very unpleasant experience for me. These two authors stretched my boundaries of dark reads and though I kept reading to see how this final book of the series ends, I’m still shaking off residual shutters.

”The Red Market isn’t for those with soft hearts or good souls.”

description

The story is told in several POVS some I can’t mention as it would be deemed a spoiler. The Red Market layout is the most humane part of this story and that is the crazy part to me. The Red Market is an underground organ business of taking body parts from those on the streets and giving them to the highest bidder. The men who run this business in book one had somewhat tried to hide their crazy flags, however in this conclusion they give into every single one of their dark urges.

”When there is no one to tell you something is wrong you can finally see just how right it is.”

description

There is a reveal or two, a new character enters the mix and our heroine is mutilated further while solely seeking some form of love in her short existence. I loved the heroine and just wanted some semblance of happiness for her at the end of tunnel.

”My skin was born thick. My heart was born broken, and my body was created to be mutilated.”

description

The story does end with a conclusion for all characters. If you handled the first book then you know what you’re getting into with this sequel. The levels of depravity are raised further and I’m pretty positive in saying that the alluringly sick dispositions of these characters had me returning back and looking for any shred of humanity. Be prepared to face levels of depravity that only the Goodbye Man and his staff can deliver!

”I wanted to fix her, he wanted to save her and fix me, I don’t think we are worth saving anymore.”

I'm a chicken shit. I've tried and I just can't do it. Don't get me wrong - the writing is terrific, and the story is very unique - but the level of depravity found between the pages of this story is too much for me.

This book is very long with things to impact your mind and the authors accomplished this role.
I was bored to death about the repetition of characters’ feelings but I liked a lot about the taboo theme.

I can't deal with the writing style. The first person POVs are not done well. I find Mateo hilarious. He's an emotionally-stunted necrophiliac. I was laughing at the very first line in this book, when Mateo said: lol at the 4 e's in me. It makes him seem like a 4 year old having a temper-tantrum.

Before reading this series I had never even thought of necrophilia in fiction. It's one of those topics that is so disgusting I don't even think about it. If I'm going to read a book with necrophilia I want to be horrified by it, and not find the necrophiliac comical. I've heard Cormac McCarthy wrote about necrophilia artfully in Child of God, I may give that a try sometime.

There are too many POVs here again, and Svetlana's POV was dreadfully boring. Her inner monologue went on for ages. I also chuckled at Ceaser's POV. It was weird. He would do something violent and then say to himself. "Why did she speak? I just wanted to love her." The violence juxtaposed with the childlike "Why? I just wanted to love" thought was odd. He did this in the last book too and I also found it strange then.

I like fiction that pushes boundaries and makes me feel uncomfortable, but I need more than lines that are written for shock value. I want more than spectacle. I like there to be layers and some depth. I didn't get that from this series. I could tell the authors were trying to add depth to the characters but the writing style and plot detracted from that goal.

I think this series just doesn't align with my tastes. I prefer subtlety and understated language. I find that more powerful, and in horror books sometimes more frightening. Nothing is understated in this series. It's all OTT and melodramatic. This series is basically a soap-opera about an involved in the family business of organ harvesting. It's unintentionally hilarious. Props to the authors for the unique premise. I should qualify nothing is funny about the depraved acts. It's just written in such an outlandish way the characters come across as unreal and cartoonish.

I read the last few chapters and I really dislike the ending. It was contrived and cliched.

After reading some of the reviews and hearing them mention Caesar, I was intrigued. If you've read book 1, you'll know why... I had to find out how the author pulled that off.

Goodbye Girl is just as dark as the first book the Red Market series, incorporating pretty much every taboo I can think of. It's a gritty (and sometimes nasty) read, but it's also littered with plot holes.

I skimmed The Goodbye Man just to remind myself of everything right before I read this. Some of the details are lost from book one to book two--the detective has gold teeth when they used to be silver, for instance. I realize this is nitpicky, but it's still annoying.

However, there were a lot in just book 2 as well, and that I'm less inclined to overlook.

If Mateo turns to lock the door and puts a metal chair under the handle for good measure so nobody can enter, the door should not be wide open in the very next scene.

If Mateo kills a doctor, brutally I might add, and that doctor is described as bleeding out on the floor, how is the very same doctor running around the corner in the next scene?

If Mateo is locked inside a room, how is he sitting inside a different office in the next scene?

And then there were things that just made no logical sense whatsoever... There's a scene in which a cab driver is described as fearing for his life. Sure, he's given cash to stay put, but he's so very scared. Why would he stay put instead of just driving away? No, he sits there behind the wheel, witnessing Mateo's crazy behavior. Mateo walks around a bit, talks crazy to him, grabs him by the throat, and still, the cab driver just sits there behind the wheel until Mateo drags him out. Smh...

I HAVE FOUND MY LIMIT!

" The dirty princess was birthed from the tainted king, and soon they would fall in love, and their empire would come crumbling down. “

This is the follow up to The Goodbye Man (TGM) .
When I first read TGM I was blown away because it was the darkest book that I ever read. I have never read anything quite like it and it honestly pushed me past my comfort zone.
With that being said, reading this fucking book was the most uncomfortable experience I ever had in my life!
IT IS Graphic, Disturbing and fucking Nauseating!!!

I have to stress how disturbing this book was for me to read! This book stretched my boundaries to the breaking point and then Desecrated them. In my review for TGM I said that this is where darkness goes to sleep well this book is where darkness was birthed, where it lives and where it dies!

This story continues where TGM left off with Caesar, Mateo and Svetlana!
In TGB I loved Mateo so much but after reading this I am left fucking speechless! He is the most vile and disgusting character that I have ever read about. Yet still his character was so brilliantly written I was still able to sympathize with him.
Caesar is a monster but I loved him, this is so fucked because he’s a evil man but I was still able to look past his faults and their unique circumstance and still root for his and Svetlana’s HEA.
Svetlana is the Strongest character that I have ever read about and the most deserving of a HEA! This 17 yr old girl has lived in fucking hell all her life and my heart broke for her.

" The only hunger that I have is for dead cunts. “

These books are so well written and the storyline is so unique I couldn’t find it in me to not finish. I spent the better part of an hour trying to decide if I should even review this book because I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
Yes you read it correctly, it is a 5 star read for me but I will NEVER recommend this book to anyone. I can’t stress enough how disturbing this book was for me, It left me questioning If I know the difference between right and wrong.
After speaking with Ashleigh she said that....
( We wrote it with that intention - we wanted to leave the reader questioning their moral compass and what if everything we got taught about right and wrong - is in fact wrong. )
And you know what Mission Fucking Accomplished!!

" Dance to your daddy, My little baby Dance to your daddy My little lamb “

I’m feeling like this series left a stain on my hand that I can never wash off. Please listen to me when I say that this series is not for EVERYONE! Think of the darkest most disturbing thing you can think of and then multiply it by 10 and then you might get an idea of what’s in between the pages of this book.
Hats off to Ashleigh & Mary because I never knew I had a limit until this book. You ladies are amazing and your ability to deliver a story like this blew me away.

" When you were made to walk around with your bleeding pussy staining your pants, did you feel like this, my little Lettie Doll?” he breathes, stroking his hard cock. “

Make sure you read The Goodbye Man before you read this book as its a continuation of the story and what a story it is.

I'm not going to say much about the storyline in case you haven't read book one. What I will say is I tried to read this in the sunshine yesterday and ended up reading something else instead. I then remembered I did the same with book one. These are in no way a sunshine kinda book. It's so dark you will be wondering what your reading and why your reading it. Having said that I absolutely loved it(yep I'm warped lol)

These characters stayed with me from when I read book one and they will be staying with me for quite a while. As a blogger I don't get time to re read books but I'll certainly be re reading these.

Great praise to these two authors who can write such a dark book that has your head a mess afterwards.

If you want to try out a dark read skip these and read something tamer. If your like me and think the darker the better then why haven't you read these two books yet.

Five awesomely dark stars.

Bold & Captivating! A story that hasn't been told.

Read the warnings. Extreme taboo situations that could make you very uncomfortable.

I'm not going to write a long review, there's too big of a chance I could spoil for you. If you've read The Goodbye Man, then you know these authors don't hold back, they have no lines, there isn't a cage that could hold their words back. The Goodbye Girl will make you question everything you ever thought to be wrong. Is Love defined by society? Are we captive to rules and regulations, side stares, and finger pointing? Or does the heart choose it's destiny?

Mary & Ashleigh drove a car right through my heart. They blurred the lines. They held up their middle finger and chose to do what no author ever has.

Read it if you're brave enough. Do you like to see what others don't talk about? Do you enjoy being uncomfortable, while battling conflicted thoughts. Can you think outside of the box? I dare you.

“Madness. It is all that has completed me since as long as I can remember. I never tried to figure out why I am the way that I am until Lettie. The chaos of the truth sets my brain on fire, making me want to destroy everything.”

5 deeply disturbing stars! Mary and A. never disappoint with their dark and dirty books!!

Book two picks up where book one ends and let me tell you it’s insane!!! If you know Mary and A., you know what you are getting into. This book is deeply disturbing, dark, gritty, and twisted! I was sucked in the minute I started reading and I couldn’t put it down until the end!! Ugh Mateo, Mateo, Mateo…..I love to hate that man. I fell for him in the first book and I’ve fallen even hard for him in book two (not sure what that says about me). If you like dark books, then this is the book for you, but be warned it’s creepy, depraved and well perfect!!!

Okay, this review was written a few months ago and I hesitated on posting it because the books had been removed.

From everywhere!

And I felt bad about teasing you without you being able to read it.
BUT!!!!!
Good news!!

They have decided to redo it, add some extra stuffs, and put it all in one book!! (there was The Goodbye Man Book 1, and The Goodbye Girl, Book 2) and it’s available FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!!

***BE FUCKIN’ WARNED, IT’S PITCH-BLACK***

I mean, yes, it was pitch black and soul-destroying.

Yes, it made me choke on sobs and gasps…

Yes, I questioned my morals while reading it.

But hey! That’s just another Tuesday for me, right?
Lol!

Proceed with caution, bitches, this one is intense!

SVETLANA
This young 17-year-old’s story is one of the saddest and most painful I have ever felt.
She lost her mother when she was just 4 years old and has since been raised (and I use that term very loosely) by her father Pavel.

He was also her mother's pimp.
And is now hers.

He started putting her on the streets as a hooker when she was just 12 years old!

Guys...I can’t even. Even now, days after I finished reading this book, I get all...sad and my chest is tight when I think about her life.

I have never before felt that I wanted a character to give up on life as much as I did this poor girl.
On a daily basis, she is raped, beaten, starved, humiliated, degraded...the list goes on.

“Blood and gore for my little whore.”He shoves my knees apart and sticks four fingers inside of me. I gasp out loud as a tear sears through me. I am dry, but that doesn’t slow him down. The friction only causes him to grin more at me while he shoves four fingers higher inside of me. Overwhelming discomfort rips through me and I can’t remember ever being violated this badly. I pray for death as he jabs his four fingers in and out, in and out, in and out over and over again until my blood covers his hand. When he is satisfied with his damage to my sex, he releases himself and I want to huddle into nothingness and cry. I can’t remember the last time I wanted to sob like this, but right now I want to. This man has cracked me open and now I understand that maybe I never want to be put back together again.

Her story continues and where she went... I had no clue as to what was going to happen.

CEASAR
This man is complicated.
He procures organs and sells them on.

He takes the people that no one will miss.
The people that need an escape.

But it’s more than that.
He finds the people that have given up on life and would rather die.

He gives them a quiet peaceful death.

He also has a severe case of Misophonia.
Certain sounds trigger him in an extreme manner.
She starts to sniff a little from the cold air; the heating is somewhat hit and miss in the building and today, it’s missing again. I don’t care. The sniff sets off something I have no control over, the sound is like a vice grip on my cock and my mind turns to the craziness. My misophonia takes over and I want nothing more than to rape and hurt her. Not me, my disease; my disease makes me do things.

His story is a dark and intense one too and I was sooo not prepared for what happens with him.
Yes, that’s all I’m gonny say about him, lol.

MATEO
Oh...my...god…
None of you, I repeat NONE OF YOU, are ready for this guy.

He is Caesar's nephew and works in the building where organs are taken and then shipped from.

He doesn’t like the outside world much and for the rest of the population, that is a very good thing.
Because Mateo has an unusual and rather fucked up taste in partners.

Necrophilia.
Yeah...I know.

If the bodies aren’t quite dead yet, then that’s still okay because they are comatose and ‘dead’ to the world.
I’ve never had a woman touch me before. I’m thirty-years-old and a woman has never fucking touched me before. I love their almost dead bodies or I kill them, love them, and admire them through see-through jars.

SICKEST SCENES
It’s important to me that before you read this book you get an idea of what you’ll be dealing with. So the following scene is a small taste.

*****TRIGGER WARNING IN THE EXTREME*****

I feel a kick between my legs from another unknown man that sends pain into my womb. My head is spinning out of control. I’m trying to hold onto reality, but it is getting harder and harder with each passing second. Another jab lands on my side into my ribs. Crack. “Prime pussy, eh? Seems a little dirty, Pavel. Guess we better show her what a dirty bitch deserves,” a voice shouts in the distance. Pavel laughs in response. He doesn’t care as long as he gets his fifty dollars and a vein full of crack. Kick. My sex is writhing in pain, throbbing and bleeding as I feel myself falling apart down a tunnel of darkness. I’m trying to let go, pleading with my heart and my brain to die, but I remain stuck on this piece of shit floor being tormented like I deserve. Punch. Punch. Punch. My eyes grow swollen from the repetitive punches to my face. I can’t see what is happening before me anymore. Now, I can only feel. Feeling is horrible. I ache everywhere and I wish that I would die. If there is a God, why won’t He let me give up? You will burn! Burn in the fire, girl. The woman’s voice from before plays like a broken record over and over again. Fuck heaven. I will take hell over this. Throw me into the pits of doom and set me on fire. Surely that is better than this. I am lifted up like a ragdoll. Every ounce of energy that I had is depleted to nothing. “Wakey, wakey, pussycat,” one man says to me in a condescending tone. I try to open my eyes, but they are nothing more than swollen slits. I can only feel. I am straddled on top of one man as I feel another sit behind me. His arms encircle my chest, massaging my bleeding nipples. I feel more, making me understand that I’m alive. I’m rammed down onto the men, one claiming my ass and the other claiming my sex. Both sear through me and I scream out loud. Tears form in my eyes, but they can’t escape. Even still, my body won’t allow it because they are swollen. I haven’t wanted to cry before, but now that I do, my body won’t let me. Thrust after thrust, I’m taken as the steady stream of blood currents from my ass and my sex. The men grunt as they fuck me, grasping onto every part of my broken body. I melt into them, letting them have me like they wish. After all, that is what I was made for.

FINAL THOUGHTS on THE GOODBYE MAN by Ashleigh Giannoccaro & Mary E. Palmerin
If someone asked me what the darkest, most disturbing, and best-written books I had ever read was, then this would be in the top three.
Seriously fucked up but amazing.

Love is love - unbiased by caste, class, colour, race, country, gender.........and relationship !!!!!!,
When there is no one to tell you something is wrong you can finally see just how right it is !!
The book makes you question your morality as a reader and as a human being.
Who judges what is wrong and what is right ?
except the Creator himself.
BUT God doesn't exist in Mateo and Svetlana's world, or everything would be perfectly normal . Mateo would meet a pretty girl and marry her.
svetlana would go to prom and meet the boy she'd spend the rest of her life with !
The story is a continuation of the tumultuous The Goodbye Man. Lettie is the most unfortunate of characters to be etched in fiction writing. She is a creature put on this Earth to be stabbed and cut by bad guys. Her life is a constant reminder that Hell On Earth does exist !!
Her skin was born thick, her heart was born broken and her body was created to be mutilated !!
Her tenacity to live is incomprehensible. I cannot fathom how she breathes , let alone stand up and fight to live. I longed for her to just die so she could have a shred of peace. I cried for her to just succumb to her demons so she could sleep peacefully. I wished the monsters in her mind would blow her mind apart so her soul could just rest and float on a cloud of peace.
But her misfortune and her cruel destiny is far stronger. She continues to suffer.
Mateo is going insane slowly. He has been impregnated with a demon worm in his brain that is growing by the day like an alien predator inside him. Eating him from inside out. His mind is totally overrun by that alien and his sanity is just on the brink of mayhem.
This story is as volcanic as TGM.....and much, much more !
No holds are barred.
No prisoners taken.
No boundries respected.
I have puked more times than ever , I have cursed louder than ever , I have sobbed harder than ever.
I'm dehydrated of my tears and asphyxiated by the intensity of this story.
I have condemned both Mary and Ashleigh to Hell many times during....
Yet Who am I to deny love when it heals more than it destroys ?
The story will cut you, heal you, break you, leave you gasping for more. Some may love the writers , some may curse them to hell, but none of you will be unaffected.
That ...I guarantee !

The Goodbye Girl started where The Goodbye Man ended with Caesar gone, Mateo and Hugo in Mexico City, and Svetlana kidnapped. Mateo continued to find refuge in his cold lifeless dolls. Mateo and Hugo worked together in the red market harvesting organs in Mexico City. The red market was a macabre underground world where organs were harvested from living bodies.

The Goodbye Girl was a dark psychological game of mutilation that empowered your mind with dysfunctional monsters who had unhealthy sexual cravings. This story expressed graphic sexual scenes of rape, violence, torture, and defilement. The male characters tended to be in an aroused state of rage from their sickened minds. The Goodbye Girl offered answers to the long awaited questions as to how these characters became dark monsters.

The authors reached deep into the darkest parts of ones psyche to create such insane characters. They showed cause and effect. Mateo was in a constant state of confusion. Svetlana was the curse between the men fighting for her love. The authors took you back to the beginning on how the disease infected minds were created and regulated. Mateo, Caesar, and Svetlana were misguided souls taught and punished under the rule of one person.

These characters loved with unconventional ideals that only like minded people could relate to. The love they knew was a sick love for disease minded people. These characters had inexcusable qualities. These Characters were conditioned and trained to become dysfunctional. The characters were unstable and they only new to understood a dysfunctional love. The characters had disease infested minds. The characters were referred to as crazy, diseased, infected, dysfunctional, mental, psychotic, sick, defective, and cursed.

The story dealt with a necrophiliac, an incestuous savage and a misophoniac. The story was about a tainted and infectious love triangle. This story showed love could be found in a macabre world of disease minded characters.

The further I read I began to understand how these monstrous characters were created and why they behaved they way they did. It was a forbidden taboo love like none I have ever experienced.

"God doesn’t exist in our world, if he did we would all be perfectly normal." Quite from the story.

I always think that I've reached my limitations when it comes to Dark Romance genre since I love reading twisted and grisly romances, however, I was wrong because after reading this I have this sudden realization of what the fuck did I just read! This book in my opinion is the darkest of all the books out there. Red Market have it all, so for those intentions, it wasn't for everyone particularly if you do have triggers and sensitive in dark subjects.

I went in blind reading this and I have no guilt. I will say that the beginning of the book was very intense and dreadful , resulting of me puking my guts out (not a joke) and not wanting to go on with the story.

Authors disclaimer per se, this is not a romance instead this is emotional distress and manipulation and I conceded.

While I'm reading this I just wished for it to be done. because I felt like I am in a roller coaster ride, everything was so chaotic and emotional, I just want to end my suffering, it's too much.

Overall I give these a 3-3.5 rating. The characters and storyline are fucked up and maddening. What an unforgettable reading episode.

Side Note: ALL of the said above is being described in a graphic & explicit form.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION

Sick and Twisted. Just the way I like it

First off, this is a Dark read. It has disturbing situations and is not for everyone. On the other hand if you love Dark and Disturbing then sit down, buckle up and hang on for its about to get gruesome.

The Goodbye Girl is the second book in the Red Market Series so if you have not read The Goodbye Man then download it and read it first.
I have spent a day mulling over this review and there is not much to say without giving spoilers and that is something I will not be doing.

Mary and Ashleigh have delved deeper into the minds of Mateo and Lettie and we are taken deeper down into the rabbit hole of the mentally impaired. Its a sick and twisted ride where abuse, rape, death and a few unspeakable acts happen. I have still not found my hard limit but they are getting mighty close to it.

The fight for power rears is ugly head and only the strong will survive. Will Mateo rule supreme and will Lettie find her happiness or is she doomed to die at a young age?
We are introduced to Ramira and Hugo and I find my self wanting to peel away the layers and find out what makes these people tick and what happened to them to make them the way they are.

Mary and Ashleigh have out done themselves once again and I love that they take a chance, push the boundaries of taboo subjects.

All I'm going to say is 'GOODBYE GIRL'!!!!!!!!!!!

ARC received from authors for exchange with my honest review.

First make sure you've read the warning from the author before deciding to read this book. Twice!!! Even It has been seven months from the first book and I still couldn't move on from nightmares and tension created by Mary and Ashleigh. So, what will you get from this second book that will surely challenge your limits?

- Multiple POV. This book will give you much more than the first book. The shifting between POV was smooth, continuous and didn't contain scene repetition from the previous.

- Strong character, memorable and complicated. The power from this both author is how they give a breath for imperfect character who use their own skin for hiding. Hide from their darkest mind. There were some mysterious characters from book #1 made appearance.

- Dramatic plot and full of surprises. This book give a roller coaster ride with non-stop twist for angst lover.

- Mixed feeling. This dark duo will play with your nightmares, force to think, and face your fears which you wouldn't find it with other books.

- Beautiful happy ending, yet still controversial.

My Rating :

I have no idea what to say except to say- THIS IS THE BEST DARK BOOK ever ! Both authors have managed to push my thinking, my boundaries to a very different level, to a new thinking. I was introduced to lots f stuffs I haven't read before. I was scared of how will I like it but I did like it. My heart went out for Svetlana who have faced so much yet her spirit, her love to life makes her fight. I really liked her. I related to her. After so much hardships, I knew it will not be easy to have a easy life and I understood that.

God, there are many things I could say it was wrong. But you just can't help but connect to them. There are lots of stuffs happen which is going to more stretching your brain. All the dark lovers with no limits will love this book.

This book left me feeling soiled and grubby and not in a fun way – and yet, and yet? I couldn’t put it down and bought the sequel before I had even finished the first book.
It is DARK. More than Dark, this book is twisted and warped and you definitely need to read the disclaimers before you read.

Following on from the first book The Goodbye Man, The Goodbye Girl continues to be focused on Svetlana although it is still told from multiple points of view. Like the first, this book draws you in, making you want so much to hate these people who live in a world on the same planet, yet so far removed from our own. And Yet. Although you cannot like or love these people (who feel more like people than characters in a book) you become invested in them and HAVE to know what happened.

Very Dark

I'm not sure what I just read but this book went from a dark read to a gross read. I love dark books and was interested in this very different story but this was just gross. I'm irritated because the writers are good but the story really just became so ridiculous that skimmed most of the 2 book. I had to know how it ended and wish I had stopped at the 1st chapter in the 1st book.

I loved the Goodbye Man, however this was too much over the top. The writing was superb, however just how much can a girl go through? The resurrection? I don't buy that, the introduction of the evil mother? I felt this was too much. Lost its magnificence

Not as dark.

The Goodbye Girl is getting four stars because there were many errors that shouldn’t have made it beyond the editing stage.
That being said, TGBG is not as dark and twisty as The Goodbye Man, Which is slightly disappointing but the book is still wonderful.
This is again, a very dark and twisted world and not recommended for probably most of the population. But if you’re into the ultra dark and twisty, this is a good duet to embark on.

The Goodbye Girl (Red Market #2) by Mary E Palmerin & A Giannoccaro
4 stars!!!

“Torture. Pain. Insanity. They all meet again, and the lamb eats herself, birthing a wolf set to kill.”

Never has a series tested every boundary I never knew I had…until this duet. This book has everything you read about in newspapers but never truly believed existed. It is far from glamourous, far from normal and totally depraved, disgusting and horrific, but I have to admit became an addictive read that I couldn’t put down and desperately wanted to finish. I felt sick, I felt disgusted, I cringed but I achieved something…I finished it.

“I realise that all I long for is hello at the end of the day, a person. A someone who will be there when the goodbyes are over.”

This duet primarily centres on the “Red Market” organ trafficking, where the streets are rid of unwanted’s and their live bodies are taken to The Goodbye Man to be put to sleep and their organs harvested and sold on the black market. As you can imagine, to do something like this in the first instance needs certain individuals, individuals without scruples and most certainly certifiably insane and more or less every character in this story desperately needed an asylum. This book contains incest, necrophilia and rape and while you would think that the organ harvesting would be hard enough nothing prepares you for the dark, depravity that some characters unleash in this book that they tried desperately to control in The Goodbye Man.

“Ugly people’s hearts are the same as beautiful ones, they still beat.”

If you have read The Goodbye Man you know what you are letting yourself in for in some regards. The writing once again is on point and while I found it a little slow going in the middle it really picked up after and for once I could see light at the end of the tunnel. I have to say that how these two authors came up with these characters makes me question their sanity because they seriously must have hacked into the darkest recesses of their brains to ever bring these characters to life. While these characters stretch your imagination to the very limit, these authors gave their character’s heart, they may be black but every character had redeeming qualities and issues that truly were the roots to their evil. I can’t condone what they do or have done but the authors do hammer home that they were not born evil, evil happened to them to make them this way.

“Some boys have a special bond with their mothers, a tether that ties them to the womb from whence they came. I would cut my mother’s heart out in an instant.”

Svetlana, this girl seriously never catches a break and after the end of The Goodbye Man you knew it wasn’t going to get any better in the first instance. This girl is the strongest woman I have read about. What she has endured and what she continues to endure are testament to her inner strength and her resilience and any other person would have capitulated by now and seriously given up the ghost. While Svetlana has her inner and outer scars, deep inside she is still a little girl that wanted to be loved. Loved as in a mother loves a daughter, not the horrific and depraved “love” she has been shown so far, but it seems the sick and twisted has left her permanently scarred. Svetlana needs to find her new normal and while it is far from perfect, it was perfect for her.

“Torn apart by the nasty that surrounded me, siphoned from any decency, I clung onto a sliver of hope as the man with dark eyes and hair haunted my dreams. Little did I realize back then, he would be my salvation both physically and mentally, and I would be the same for him.”

I am purposely not going to mention the male characters this time as I don’t want to spill any spoilers but the series is perfectly wrapped up for everybody in more ways than one. Somethings I saw coming, some I didn’t but I did feel that one person in particular got the only redemption he would ever need. While sometimes it hurt to read, knowing the characters, knowing their inner torment and turmoil some things need to be said and done and most got what they deserved.

“We all have a little darkness in us. I have my own monsters that I wrestle each day, but my monsters will leave with them. I will finally be free to find all that I have lost.”

I very much doubt I will ever find another book like this, yes it is unique, yes it pushes boundaries, definitely don’t eat while reading but appreciate that these authors tested your limits, pushed your boundaries all while delivering an addictive story that while you should have detested it and put it aside you can’t help but read and see the good amongst the evil.

This book was so draining! Caesar, Mateo, and Svetlana went through SO much! I don't even know what to think...this was more effed up than book 1. Caesar's mother? What a piece of work. I found myself drawn to Hugo; I can't say he was a good guy but he was the best of the bad guys.

Enthralling. A hard read. So many unconventional and uncomfortable subjects. Liked the characters - their flaws. Sad that some couldn’t be saved. A bit appalled but fascinated at the same time. Kept waiting for Mateo to come around but in the end I think all the pieces fit together-such as it was.
