Patterson welcomes Michael White into the elusive (but growing) group charged with the creation of BookShots, a 'take no prisoners' form of short story writing that puts the reader in the middle of quick tales about a plethora of subjects. On a Tuesday evening in Bradford, in Northern England, a terror cell is hashing out the final aspects of a plot to wreak havoc on Europe's busiest airport, Churchill London International (presumably a dressed-up version of Heathrow). However, while headed towards the English metropolis, authorities are tipped-off and a few base members are taken into custody. After some 'creative talking maneuvers' over a few days, a vague version of the plan is revealed, but there will not be enough time if everyone waits for official channel approval. On the Friday morning, at Churchill, former SAS Matt Bates and ex Delta Force Chaz Shoeman are prepared to meet for their annual vacation, a few weeks basking on the Greek Islands. As they rush to the Departures area, they trip upon the beginnings of the terror plot with its first unsuspecting victim. Remaining as calm as possible, and using the training for which they were so well known in their respective militaries, Bates and Shoeman hustle away and try to make contact with the outside world. In another part of the terminal, Hubab Essa has taken over for her husband as the cell's leader (perhaps somewhat odd given that these are Muslim extremists), promising casualties like never before. A chemical weapon is hidden in the airport and all those guarding the hostages are ready to die for Allah. As Bates and Shoeman try not only to save those passengers whose lives hang in the balance but also communicate with British Special Forces, they must come to terms with the fact that the world is watching their every move. Time is of the essence, leaving no room for error. The type of story that BookShots was meant to convey, Patterson and White hold the reader enthralled until the very last page-turn.

Another successful BookShot, where the reader is never sure what they will get. Patterson and White infuse the right amount of dramatic effect and story into a piece that gives just the right amount of character backstory to keep the reader caring. With a setting that is sure to draw attention and a plot that has been done so may times, the reader receives little notice as to how easy it is to fall into the trap known as a good short story. I felt as though the Bates-Shoeman pairing could have come from a past novel, they work so well together and seem to complement one another well (without offering too many unmanly compliments, haha). If I could make mention of one thing that nagged at me as I read, it would have to be that the underlying theme is overdone to the point of being charbroiled. I have been reading thrillers for many years and since September 2001, it seems that Muslim terrorists is the flavour du jour, which has become old quite quickly. It is overplayed that duping the authorities seems almost impossible, what with racial profiling so high in airports and amongst police forces. On behalf of (I'm sure) a number of us who enjoy a good thriller, find a new angle. Fanatical Scandinavians, quiet but deadly Canadians, even ultra-feminists. The Muslim terrorist seeking to kill the infidel has had its time in the sun. Please, put the idea to rest and leave readers wondering if and how the next terror cell will ever be discovered and captured.

Kudos, Messrs. Patterson and White for another wonderfully crafted piece. While you have worked together on a full-length novel, this goes to show you have great abilities when developing a shorter story together as well.

When retired SAS Captain Matt Bates met up with his best mate, ex Delta Force officer Chaz Shoeman at London Churchill International Airport in preparation for their flight to their holiday destination, he had no idea they would find themselves in the middle of a violent terrorist plot that threatened to kill hundreds if not thousands of innocent people.

The terrorist cell had planned long and well; they would deliver. They had nothing to lose and the woman who was in charge was cold, hard and calculating. As Matt and Chaz stood silently amid the terrified passengers in the departure lounge, they were using their knowledge from their military days to plan – but would anything be possible amid the amount of fire power in front of them?

Airport Code Red by James Patterson is another in the BookShots novellas, and this one was extremely fast paced from the first page till the last! Intense, violent and blood thirsty, there was also a smattering of humour amid the serious plot. I thoroughly enjoyed Airport Code Red and recommend it to lovers of the genre without hesitation.

One of the worst books I've ever read. If this had been my first book by James Patterson, I would have skipped that author altogether. It seems that Michael White is the lead writer of this one. I can't believe James Patterson enabled this book to be published with his name on it. Shame!

James Patterson - Gefahr am Airport
eBook - 108 Seiten

A great BookShot to read and would recommend to fans of either Andy McNab or Chris Ryan.

A terrorist attack in one of the busiest airports in the country, a scary though but its being executed by a group of very determined terrorists. they will stop at nothing to see their play carried out. Not only are they using a chemical bomb, they also have an arsenal of weapons, and are also packing suicide bomb vests as well.

This is one group of terrorists that are going to be hard to stop. However, two ex vets are working on the inside to help the authorities on the outside to bring this nightmare to an end, but will they pull it off? Two guys against a small army of terrorists, surely its not possible!!

I bought this on a whim in a supermarket because of the strap line: 'Stories at the speed of life'. I don't get as much time as I would like to read because work and life get in the way, so short stories have always appealed.

This story is fast paced due to its shortness, and it was interesting but personally, I don't particularly enjoy reading about terrorism driven by radical religious views. Also, the situation and relationship between the British and American special forces soldiers was too similar to the first two episodes of the second series of Strike Back. I'm afraid that I liked the characters from Strike Back and the story more. 3 stars.

Non-stop action, but not as good as John Ling. Excellent writing, probably the best writing of anything James Patterson. John Ling's writing in the same genre, jihad/non-stop action but superior calibre. Not my thing really, like every type of gun and weapon described. Lots of violence and bloody scenes. I enjoy the descriptive writing

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up.

Given that this is a novella, 144 pages, the action is very fast-paced. A group of terrorists attempt to blow up a Middle East delegation to the United Kingdom.

An enjoyable and quick read.

I feel sad to give James patterson a 2 star but I really am not a fan of this work.

I think Michael White was the lead author on this as I don't think the writing style was similar to my usual reads. And to his credit the writing of the book was well done. If anybody is interested in this subgenre I'd urge you to read the book as it is very well written. It just isn't for me.

The story itself was not my cup of tea, I am not a fan of books around the armed forces, military, SAS, etc. I'm unsure as to why it's just a subgenre that has never peaked my interest. I didn't know the story was about this when I picked it up.

I don't think I enjoyed the storyline as it felt too much like right place, right time which is a bit of a trope that I'm not a fan of.
I didn't care for the characters in particular. I have the book 2 stars as I don't think it was badly written, just not my cup of tea so deserved higher than a 1 star

This is my first James Patterson Book Shots book; it will likely be my last. Full disclosure; other than the Alec Cross series I feel his books have really gone downhill in quality over the past couple of years. Airport Code Red was a “filler” book while I waited for the library to reopen from holiday break. Story line was very lacking, and often far-fetched. Frankly, this is the same ole same, ole typical terrorist attack story. Another disappointment by Patterson who we all know can do better.

Rattles through at the speed of a TV show, and with about as much depth. But that's fine given the series - I wasn't expecting anything deeper. Not sure why they had to rename Heathrow airport to "Churchill" - it was obvious it couldn't be anywhere but Heathrow! Still, it didn't spoil the story.

I bought this book at a book store. I enjoyed reading it. It had a good story to it. What I liked about it that some parts of it seemed realistic for a fiction book. It had a good variety of characters in it.

Not my jam. I found it the usual - bunch of terrorists try to blow things up, couple of ‘right place/time’ military trained peeps get shit done. Even the random civilians and side trips were just annoying to me.

This 2016 novella by authors James Patterson and Michael White is a pretty fair read. I think the authors were out of sync in the tone of parts of the book. The sections describing the terrorists and the British services to break the captured terrorists before the bomb went off was serious and gritty. The segments of the two ex-Special Forces pals trapped in the airport was more buddy camaraderie and tech proficiency - they were able to break into the airport security system, defeat the encryption, and pipe the signal of the terrorists and hostages to the British attacking force, all in a few minutes. Not bad for a Lethal Weapon type short but don't take it seriously.

hen retired SAS Captain Matt Bates met up with his best mate, ex Delta Force officer Chaz Shoeman at London Churchill International Airport in preparation for their flight to their holiday destination, he had no idea they would find themselves in the middle of a violent terrorist plot that threatened to kill hundreds if not thousands of innocent people. This is the third Patterson "Bookshot" that I've read over the last week or so &, like the others, it's action packed & all go. Normally I would've found the action a bit OTT but the fact that it's partly set in Bradford, just down the road from me, brought a realism to the tale. I know there's a mosque on Thornbury Road, though I haven't heard of Glimmer Street, & the fact that I'm travelling through airports at the moment made this storyline all the more worryingly plausible & a bit too close for comfort.

Matt Bates & Chaz Shoeman are a good pairing (Do they appear in other books? Note to self to check...) Finally, the "Silent Two" ending is both kinda cute & kinda cheesy.

Patterson is one of my Favorite Authors with the short chapters and high pace style.
Bookshots totally compliment this and they are compact for an on the go read such as commuting.

Airport code red sees two ex military buddies in the right place at the right time to throw a spanner in the works of a terrorist attack at a major international airport. Baring a couple of chapters of backstory and a chapter of post event followup the whole thing covers about an hour and doesn't take an awful lot more than that to read.

I picked it as a re-read to fit into a busy Sunday while deciding what novel to settle into next and it filled the hole perfectly.

James Patterson’s Airport - Code Red is a fast-paced, cosy little thriller with enough tension and action. With elements reminiscent of Die Hard 2, the story keeps you engaged as retired SAS captain Matt Bates and ex-Delta Force officer Chaz Shoeman step up to prevent a catastrophic terrorist attack on London Churchill International Airport.

The compact length, part of Patterson’s BookShots series, makes it an easy, satisfying read for a single sitting. While the plot doesn’t reinvent the wheel, the familiar action-thriller formula works well, offering suspense, high stakes, and just enough twists to keep the pages turning.

This is an enjoyable read for action-packed, airport-based thrillers fans, earning a solid 4 out of 5 from me. It’s perfect for a quick adrenaline-fueled escape!

This is like an 80's B-grade action movie set to paper. Reminds me of a cheap DIE HARD knock-off, but with a little THE DELTA FORCE thrown in for good measure. All the usual cliches abound, and the action comes from a very right-wing perspective, much like LONDON HAS FALLEN or RAMBO: LAST BLOOD. Patterson's usual insistence on writing first-person from the main character's POV really hurts this one, but for what it is, it ain't terrible.

A fast-based action filled story following the a terrorist attack at an airport.

This was a fun read that provided a quick action packed story. Of course with these bookshots they lack a bit of depth owing to the size of the books and this book requires you to switch your brain off a little and enjoy the ride. With a few instances when the plot didn't really make sense. But as a quick fun read this book delivered what was expected.

Standard James Patterson fare featuring a fictional London airport overrun with terrorists and a hero and his mate having to save the day.
Said hero, Matt Bates doesn't appear until page 31(!) so the first section of the book features the antagonists and armed forces. I wondered for a while whether this would pan out in the usual format (which ultimately it did).
