It's a good short story summarizing what Harriet Tubman did and how early she had to work. I learned a few things about her that I didn't know before so that was interesting. Illustrations are alright. They help illustrate the story.
I think this book is informative for young children who are learning about slavery. It is short enough for children but it points out the most important events. It really shows the danger she faced to help save everyone.
This was a story about Harriet Tubman's life and many of the difficult experiences she dealt with such as getting whipped for making mistakes and living her life in a single room house. She was very influential in the underground railroad.
While this text, part of the 'Young...' series, is a decent introduction to the life of Harriet Tubman, one of America's (and thereby the world's) most important freedom fighters, it seems to be lacking in terms of details (e.g. dates, names, places) especially concerning her adult life.
The story recounts Tubman's childhood as a slave and eventual escape when whe is around 29 years old (she was born around 1820 and escaped in 1849). This takes us to page 26 of a book with 32 total pages. But although she lived until 93, the last 64 years of her life are compressed into 6 pages that offer far too little information, in my opinion.
This short and simple biography centers on the life of Harriet Tubman and her fight for freedom. I would use this book in my classroom to talk about her life, slavery, and the underground railroad.
