The Secret by Rhonda Byrne is a tricky book to rate. It can influence your life positively or negatively depending on how you perceive the information in it. In this book, which is a follow-up to The Secret, the author tells us about the real-life stories of where the book changed their lives.

How the Secret Changed My Life adds nothing new to the Secret franchise, but it's still fun to read if you enjoy hearing success stories about people who utilized the Law of Attraction. The criticisms of it have been voiced elsewhere and more eloquently: that it is predominantly focused on material things and that it stresses being happy at any cost. That being said, I liked the stories. I liked hearing about how people hit rock bottom and then changed their lives for the better. I really liked hearing that you can do or have or be anything that you want. Who wouldn't?

Here's Rhonda in the introduction: "I want you to know how easily you can change your life, and it's not by running around trying to force it into the shape you want. You change your life in the only way you can ever change it: change your mind, and then your life will change." loc 47, ebook. All true change comes from within, I do believe that. Until I typed this out, I didn't realize just how many times she used the word "change" in those two sentences. Counting back I see... five times? That's a lot of change, people.

I feel like this book warns the reader away from negative emotions, but they serve a purpose too. It gives you a starting point- if you know what you don't want, then you know what you do. I'm not suggesting that you wallow in negative emotion, but feeling it, acknowledging it, then moving on isn't as bad as this book makes it out to be. In this passage, Rhonda is suggesting the use of "Secret Shifters" to control your mood: "The Secret Shifters... are things you can focus on whenever you find yourself feeling angry, frustrated, or any other negative emotion, in order to change those negative feelings in an instant. They might be beautiful memories, future events, funny moments, nature, a person you love, or your favorite music." loc 409, ebook. I say: feel whatever you're feeling and trust that your emotions will eventually rise again like a cork in water. Helping yourself along with "Secret Shifters" or gratitude lists or whatever is fine, but for goodness sake, don't force it. "What you resist, persists."

I really agreed with this next passage: "Most of us have the wrong idea about happiness. We believe that if we get everything we want, and if life continually goes our way, we will be happy. And from that belief, we create all the excuses in the world for why we can't be happy right now. ... It's those very excuses that are preventing you from being happy now." loc 457, ebook. I used to do that- looking forward to circumstances or events and ignoring where I was. The journey really is the point, so why not be happy now? Rhonda Byrne nailed that one.

Recommended for readers who are looking for a quick, uplifting read about the Law of Attraction or for those who are interested in getting started but don't necessarily believe or know how it works. The latter, in particular, may find a great deal of worth in these pages. As I said, I liked it, but I'd also recommend reading Abraham Hick's books too: to learn the value of negative emotion, not be afraid of feeling your full emotions, and to learn not to practice affirmations unless you're feeling "in the zone" so to speak. Additional reading: The Vortex: Where the Law of Attraction Assembles All Cooperative Relationships and Co-creating at Its Best: A Conversation Between Master Teachers.

How The Secret Changed My Life is an inspiring collection of stories of people who changed their lives using methods from The Secret. It’s repetitive since it still uses The Secret Daily Teachings and has the same words of wisdom from The Secret, but I still think this book is motivating, because anything positive that gives us a little momentum to change for the better is worth repeating.

We all get stuck in a rut and old ways of thinking that doesn’t serve us, but these thoughts are so ingrained in us that we think we’ve been right all along. Our pride gets in the way and we don’t admit that we’ve been wrong or entertain the thought that someone like Rhonda Byrne just might be right. Personally, I don’t need to be right all of the time. If somebody has a better idea to help me reach my goals, then I’m all ears.

This isn’t magic. The biggest misconception about the law of attraction is that simply thinking about a goal will make it happen. It doesn’t work that way. You still have to do the work. Changing your attitude and beliefs about achieving your goals makes it happen quicker and it allows you to achieve goals that you didn’t think were possible. We limit ourselves because that’s what we’ve been taught, but we're not limited. We can achieve a lot more in life. Look at highly successful people. They’re not superheroes. They’re just like you and me, except they didn’t take no for an answer. They believed they’d achieve their goals and they did everything that they could until they achieved it. They kept moving forward and making changes in their steps along the way if one method didn’t get them there, but they never lost faith in themselves.

Achieving any goal starts with having unshakable faith that you’ve already achieved your goal. You have to be 100% sure, not 99.9% because that 0.1% doubt will always get in your way. Once you state your goals in present tense, get to work. Keep your eyes open for any opportunity that’s in tune with your goal. You’ll be surprised how much more you’ll notice when you’re actively looking for these things.

If you’re unsure about the concepts in this book, ask for something small like people in the book have. One person asked for a shiny penny, heads-up, with the year 1996. Another person asked for a red thimble. Both of these people acquired these things, but it happens on its own schedule, not yours; however, many people in this book achieved their goals by the dates that they set.

Go into this as a fun experiment so that you can either prove or disprove this theory. Don’t ask how a goal will happen. Just do everything that you can possibly do and let the universe take care of the rest. Reaching any goal first starts with the right belief system. Once you have the right beliefs, you automatically start changing your behaviors, habits, and actions that mirror your new belief system. New actions gives you new results. Doing the same things and expecting new results is called insanity.

I’ve already decided that this concept will work for me. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of all of the pessimists telling me everything that I can’t do in life. If they don’t believe they can achieve something, then fine. They can stay stuck in their crappy lives, but don’t drag me down with you. Rhonda Byrne says not to entertain negative thoughts. This book has already helped me and I just finished it. I’ve already started my gratitude journal and wrote my goals down in present tense. I stopped a negative thought in mid-sentence which is huge for me. Maintaining a positive attitude is a challenge, but after a while, it’ll become a new habit.

I suggest that you swallow your pride and go into this open-minded. You don’t have to follow this blindly. Just remember, like attracts like. We all know that’s a fact. We learned that in science class. The least that will happen is that you’ll feel better about yourself and your life. In my opinion, that’s still success, because you’ll be surprised by how many people still haven’t achieved this.

I borrowed this from my library, but it’s a book that I want to review later on when I need a little boost, so I’ll probably add it to my home library. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels stuck, who feels ready for change, and needs some inspiration. Contact me and let me know how you’re progressing. We can motivate each other and share our success stories.

ARC for Netgalley

I first know about Law of Attraction from The Secret DVD and since then I started to do what the mentors said. Basically to have positive thinking and attitude, not to let things happen to me but making things happen to me by having a conscious mind, etc.

This books is the continuity of The Secret. Like the title said it's about the experiences people have about LOA. And I love those. I feel empowered. It makes me believe that I deserve all the good things in the world. If they can do it then I too can do it!

A special thank you to Atria and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

From the author, Rhonda Byrne, who brought us the life-transforming book, The Secret, which changed our way of thinking over a decade ago, with a follow-up HOW THE SECRET CHANGED MY LIFE. Real People. Real Stories.

We all recall the wisdom and teachings of The Secret from money, wealth, relationships, health, career, and the secrets to changing lives. The power held within each of us to make changes in all aspects of our life.

The author follows with a collection of real stories from readers around the world who followed the principals of The Secret. Readers who used the principals to attract what they wanted.

From remarkable changes in lives, relationships, finances, and health. Powerful messages which reiterate the power we all possess when using the principals--from different cultures and geographical areas. From all walks of life. Powerful!

Transformations, uplifting and inspiring real life stories. Readers will want to quickly refer back to The Secret to re-read the original book, —to create the life you want and desire. A reminder of the simple things you can do to have an abundant life filled with everything you desire.

"Change your mind and then your life will change." Whatever you are thinking about, you will attract in your life. You are attracting into your life the experiences and circumstances that are “like” the thoughts and images you hold in your mind.

“There are two kinds of people: Those who say, “I will believe it when I see it.” And those who say, “To see it, I know I must believe it.” - The Secret Daily Teachings

Your current thoughts are creating your future life, and so by changing your thoughts now, you can change your life. The creative process is made up of three simple steps: Ask, believe, receive.

Ah, I so recall listening to The Secret audio version daily, back when it came out. I told everyone about this incredible book. Someone happened to keep my copy, and when reading these wonderful stories, was reminded to attain another copy, and re-read. Apply the principals. Very thought-provoking.

For those who read The Secret, will enjoy reading the collection of fascinating and life-changing stories. The visuals, the addictions, the courage of those, to make critical changes. You do not have to depend on others to create your happiness. We control our own reactions and how we respond. We can control our future by what we attract through our thoughts and emotions, good and bad. Gratitude. Apply. It begins inside of us.

I also enjoyed the Keys to Changing Your Life as a refresher. A reminder to radiate the feelings of happiness and joy, and transmit them into the Universe. It’s not what happens to you, but how you respond to what happens in your life!

**I received a free copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

I remember when I first watched The Secret, my dad had just gotten it and he was really excited about the whole family seeing the film. I had no idea what it was about and, when it was starting, I didn't understand what all those people were talking about, I had never heard of the law of attraction before, but after that moment, I started to understand so many things that had happened in my life that just felt like huge coincidences. I loved it.

Sadly, I didn't do a proper research about it after seeing the movie, like I usually do with pretty much everything in life, and wasn't completely sure about how to work with it. And I just moved on with my life.

I recently moved to another country and, naturally, was in need of a new job. I really enjoyed the previous job I had, but I had to quit in order to move to Spain, which is why I knew I had to get a job I could love, because I had it in the past, so I could have it again.

This book came to me at the perfect time. While job hunting I suddenly remembered The Secret and thought about seeing it again, or read the book, but one day, while going through the books on Netgalley, I found this!

Reading the book has really made me realize how lucky I am to have the life I have and all the things I own, it's made me more grateful. And it also helped with my anxiety about finding a great long-lasting job I could love and that paid well, because I was pretty close to losing my mind for a minute there.

How The Secret Changed My Life teaches you how to use the law of attraction (Ask, Believe, Receive), while also providing stories about how it's worked for other people, and these stories are separated by different categories, like health and money. I obviously went straight to the career one, and read it a second time when I went back to read the whole book.

I really recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about the law of attraction, especially if you're looking for some great examples about people using it and getting results. Or even to people who don't necessarily believe in it, but consider themselves to be big optimists :)

It is always inspiring to hear stories from "real" people.
Most of these collected letters were motivating and encouraging, reinforcing the steps promoted by the book and video The Secret and it's successors.
I found one particular letter near the end to be disturbing and over the top.

While reading this book I kept comparing it to the Chicken Soup phenomenon.
People appreciate being able to reach out to authors who help them feel better.
They also like being to share their progress and success with others.

I liked the way this book was organized and the illustrated (verbally) successes related back to the principle. The original book tended to be controversial, many saying it was too simple.
I enjoyed hearing about people who chose to believe and act on their goals.

I was allowed to read this book for review through Netgalley.
It motivates me to pull out my original copy of The Secret and reread it.

This was incredible. It’s packed with so many stories and it just has the glow that can immediately uplift your mood. I’d usually read it before going to bed at night, and there are some famously known people in the book as well. What I really like is how you can actually track these people down on the secret website and that makes it authentic. I wish there were more books like these, about real people and real stories. If you do know any please recommend some!

I love reading any book that talks about the secret because it always puts me in a good mood. If I feel sad or upset I start reading the secret and right away I feel so much better. I am not an expert in using the secret, but I can tell you that when I use the law of attraction properly my wish comes true ( my problem is that I am a very negative person so I have to fight with that, so if it works for me it will for sure work for you).
It is not a book to read in one sitting, it is something to you every time you need a boost of happiness

At last, buku ini berhasil membuat saya "gatal" ingin mempraktikkan cara berpikir The Secret lagi.

Semangat! *pasang senyum 5 senti*, :D

NB: 5 dari 5 bintang untuk buku ini. Yeap, it was amazing.

My Second Review

Saya pernah mencoba mempraktikkan The Secret tapi tidak betul-betul mempercayainya. Jika berhasil pun saya menganggapnya hanya kebetulan semata.

Let's smile

*Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book for free, in exchange for an honest review*

I would give this book 2.5 stars. Let's start with the bad and move to the good. Many of the stories seemed repetetive and there were a few times where I doubted a story. What I did like about this book is the organization of it. The book is organized by topics ex.health, relationships, and each story is followed by a short explanation about how the person followed the rules of 'The secret' to achieve success. Verdict: I'm still not completely sold on all aspects of this ideology but this book did bring up some very good ideas that anyone can learn from.

I loved this book because of the joy it brought me while reading it. Is it hard to imagine that all of these wonderful things happened to these people? Sometimes. But believing that it did made me smile on days that I really needed it. If you're a fan of The Secret (book or film) and want some extra tips on how to use the Law of Attraction while also enjoying personal accounts of how it works for people all over the world, read this.

Reading How The Secret Changed My Life felt like sitting down with hundreds of people from all over the world and hearing them say, “Hey, I made it through—and so can you.”

This book is not just theory. It’s proof. Real stories from real people who turned their lives around using the Law of Attraction shared in The Secret. And that’s what made this book hit different. It’s not about one guru telling you what to do—it’s a choir of voices, all reminding you that your thoughts have power and that change is possible no matter where you start.

I remember reading the first few stories and instantly feeling chills. People had overcome debt, disease, heartbreak, low self-worth, and more. And they all started the same way: shifting their mindset, choosing gratitude, visualizing success, and trusting in the power of positivity.

I started trying it in small ways—imagining good news before opening emails, being grateful before bed, writing down goals like they’d already happened. And slowly, I saw changes: unexpected opportunities, better mood, and a deep sense that life was starting to work with me, not against me.

Review of How The Secret Changed My Life by Rhonda Byrne
By Grace Shonhiwa

This book came into my life at the perfect time. How The Secret Changed My Life reminded me of the power of faith, gratitude, and the Law of Attraction.

The simple steps: Ask. Believe. Receive. are life-changing. Each chapter offers real-life stories that deeply resonated with me and inspired me to start shifting my mindset.

🌟 Happiness is an inside job. Letting go of what no longer serves you opens space for joy and growth.
💫 Abundance begins with gratitude. I’ve learned to speak life over my finances, be thankful for the little I have, and give with a joyful heart.
🧠 Change your mind, change your life. From health to career, your thoughts create your reality. Visualization, belief, and daily gratitude are powerful tools.

This book taught me that everything starts within. From pain comes power. From the ashes, new life.

Thank you, Rhonda Byrne, and to all those who shared their stories. I’m truly grateful and ready to change my life for the better.

I have been listening to this as an audiobook. At first it seemed like a simple refresher to THE SECRET. Lots of inspiring stories from people who have used the LOA (Law of Attraction) principles they learned from reading THE SECRET to manifest their dreams/desires. About half way through, I became very bored. I get it... people used the LOA and it worked for them. Great... now on to something else, we already know: ASK/BELIEVE/RECEIVE.
If you are still struggling with manifesting your desires and need a refresher and inspiration to keep working THE SECRET in your life, then this is the book for you. If you are already are familiar with LOA principles and have seen them work first-hand, then skip this one.

I like this one better than many of the others, due to its concrete advice.

I continue to be alarmed (as someone with some serious health issues, that are caused by injuries inflicted upon me by a not-benevolent person) about The Secret franchise's lack of focus on modern medicine or the justice system.

Rhonda does cut in and mention that LOA needs to be *combined* with modern medicine once, but given the legs toxic positivity has in the US (that's on our culture, not on Rhonda) I felt like it needed to be said earlier and more often. Also just once I'd like to hear an LOA book acknowledge that those who do evil, need to meet legal consequences for their actions.

That aside, I love this series!

Review: I've been a massive fan of The Secret for some years and have loosely used its teachings over the years. This book is full of REAL amazing and inspiring stories from REAL people from all over the world which is hugely uplifting to know that no matter where you are in the world or what your circumstances are you can use the teachings of The Secret to change your life. The book is not only full of stories but also inspiration quotes and key points in every section which you can refer back to at any time! I just love how the author makes the book personal to YOU the reader, as if the book has been solely written for you.
It gave me great hope that I too can make small or big beautiful changes to my life one step at a time.

Recommend: To anyone who is looking for a sign, this is it...

First book I read regarding law of attraction.
I always want to give it to others to read, but sadly I have only one copy of it.

Loved it. I read it always in the morning, so it really helped me to set a postive intention from the start. And whenever I felt not in my best mood, it’s the book which helped me because I can open any page and change the way I feel. It helped me see any kind of situation from a more positive light and also find a way for improvement a lot easier.

In short - INSPIRING.

Read fully twice. From time to time - open random pages for inspiration.

Wow and just wow. This book is amazing and very inspirational. For the first time in my life I feel like and I know that I’m invincible. It funny how a book 📚 can change my whole perspective on life. It’s only been 3 days since I’ve decided to follow the Secret’s advice but gosh I can already say that it put me into a “feel-good” energetic vibration. The people’s testimonies motivate me to do better and to not be afraid to take risks. From now on, I’ll be grateful for every single thing I have in my life and always see the good in everything. 👌🏾👌🏾

Rhonda Byrne's book How The Secret Changed My Life is an uplifting compilation of true accounts from individuals who used The Secret's tenets to change their lives. It highlights how effective visualization, thankfulness, and positive thinking are at reaching objectives and conquering obstacles. The book is a great read for anyone looking to empower themselves and improve personally because it is inspirational and provides useful insights into the law of attraction. Although some may believe it oversimplifies complicated subjects, many people find it to be encouraging.

For Law of Attraction people, this was a very nice book that showed real-life examples of manifesting. All the stories were fairly short which made them pretty digestible, but all of the stories (even the ones with some grit involved) always end with a positive outcome (I don't think that's really a spoiler - you could probably guess without ever having read it how they would turn out) which left me with a little happy buzz, which is kind of the point. Nice to hear stories about application!
