*A paranormal romance retelling of Beauty and the Beast*
Blossom Frane is only weeks away from her transformation. On her eighteenth birthday, she’ll find out her future branch of society and her totem, the animal form she’ll be able to take at will for the rest of her life. Like her brothers, she’s expected to be a brown bear of the religious branch known as Terra.
In the Alderwood forests, Blossom’s bear blood is a valuable asset. Any day now, a rival clan leader will step forward and offer her father a hefty bounty in exchange for her hand in marriage. Blossom can do nothing more than sit back and wait to be traded to the highest bidder.
Determined to spend her last weeks exploring the Alderwood, Blossom sneaks away and manages to find Kaide Landel, a rising political star of the Pyro branch. Known for his violence and disregard for the religious teachings of the Terra branch, he’s all wrong for the bear clan’s prized daughter. But when the politician uses his wealth and influence to secure her hand, Blossom has no choice but to leave her family and marry him—if she lives that long.

The tale of Beauty and the Beast, we read the book, saw the movie and still hum the tunes, so sweet, so sad and so romantic. Prepare for a fabulous re-telling, all updated and a little twisted around, but still as sweet and romantic as the original. With Blossom and the Beast, R.S. McCoy has a warm and fuzzy hit as one young woman and one young man try to find love and acceptance amidst the politics of arranged marriages, political enemies and magical machinations, but will their love last? Is it true? Will someone bring down the curtain on a hard won relationship for their own gain?
The last thing Blossom wanted was to be sold off to the highest bidder in marriage, she hasn’t even discovered her totem, the animal she will shift into upon her eighteenth birthday. Blossom is far too strong-willed for an ordinary man, but when she discovers she is to become the bride of a high ranking political figure from another clan, the evil reputation that precedes him turns her blood to a flaming inferno of anger.
Kaide Landel is a force to be reckoned with under his stern glare and long cape. His totem is a secret, but Blossom can feel the leashed fury he holds back. Determined to find her way home, she does her best, or worst to be as disagreeable as she can until she sees Kaide’s façade fall, quite by accident and the true man shines through. Is this man truly the monster she has heard about? Why won’t he show her his totem?
With the patience of a saint, Kaide endures the wrath of a woman who is determined to thwart his attempts to get to know her, yet it is that fiery spirit, that hard-headed determination that has stolen his heart. But how can she love the beast within him?
This could be one of the best re-tellings of this classic tale in a long while. Feel the romance, the tension and follow along as Blossom discovers the beauty of the man and his beast. Will her love come too late to let him know?
R.S. McCoy has built the kind of world that feels like falling into a dream of castles, gallant heroes and independent heroines who often need saving from themselves! A touching tale that will be continued until we get the happy ever after our romantic sides demand!

Blossom and the Beast turned out to be an amazing read! Generally, I try to stay away from retellings because I have read some before and was left disappointed. Blossom and the Beast beyond impressed me! I stayed up all night reading it in one sitting.
The story follows a teenage girl named Blossom who is part of the Terra Pack in the Alderwood forest. Her three brothers can shift into bears and as her transformation draws near on her eighteenth birthday, it is expected that she too will be able to shift into a bear. The tradition that is held among the different clans is that women are traded between them depending on the offer they receive. Eventually a man requests her hand in marriage and Blossom’s father immediately says yes because of what the man offered. However, the stranger is the Vice Syndicate to the Pyro Branch which is the most dangerous and volatile of the existing branches in their realm.
Here’s what I liked:
Blossom- Blossom yearns for freedom and independence like most teenagers. But she knows that when she is claimed, she will lose it all. I absolutely loved Blossom and I felt like she a lot of readers could connect with her. She has a headstrong and carefree personality.
The world building- The world building is creative and truly remarkable. I absolutely loved it! I loved the idea of four dominating branches that each have their own strength and type of transformations. The world building was done in an excellent manner.
Blossom & Kaide’s relationship- Their relationship is amazing. I loved the passion that bloomed between them. Based on their personalities, it is as clear as day that they were made for each other! There were some steamy moments between them, but overall they were clean.
Pacing- The book was fast paced and will keep you on your toes! I was gladly unable to put the book down.
Writing- This is my first novel I’ve read by RS McCoy and it certainly won’t be my last! The writing was suspenseful, powerful, and overall beautifully written. RS McCoy is a talented writer and I will definitely be reading more of her books!
What I didn’t like as much:
Repetition- There was a little bit of repetition with some of the phrases. It seemed like they always kept repeating certain things and how they feel about each other. When there was an event, each time it seemed as though Kaide enjoyed something in the moment, but then regretted it later.
The ending- Okay, the ending was a big twist and I really hope it gets solved soon because it broke my heart. This was a HUGE cliffhanger! I like cliffhangers when all of the books in a series are out because then I don’t have to wait for what seems like forever to get answers. This cliffhanger is killing me and I need the sequel right away!
Overall, this was a 4.5 read for me! I loved every aspect of it and it is my favorite retelling. It is fast-paced, different(in a good way), and mesmerizing. Once you pick up the book, you won’t be able to put it down. Blossom and the Beast is a must-read! It is intoxicating, and full of suspense. I promise you will not be disappointed when reading this book.
*This review can also be found on The Reader and the Chef. Huge thanks to the author for the review copy in exchange of my honest opinion.*
I AM IN LOVE AND IN PAIN. Blossom and the Beast turned out to be one AMAZING read. To be honest, my expectations weren't as high despite its interesting premise and the promise of a great paranormal Beauty and the Beast retelling, yet I am beyond impressed by it. Actually, this book is the reason I stayed up til' 4 am because I just could not stop reading!
The story follows a young woman from a Terra pack in the Alderwood forest lead by her father. Her 3 brothers can shape-shift into Bears (called Totems) and as her transformation draws near on her 18th birthday, it is expected her totem will take a bear shape as well. As tradition follows, women are traded into different clans depending on their offers, much to Blossom's dismay. She yearns for freedom and independence, something she knows she will not get after her hand is claimed. A day following her first offer, a tall stranger she comes across in the forest offers for her hand in marriage and strikes a hard to pass deal with her father that he accepts on the spot. The thing is, this stranger is the Vice Syndicate to the Pyro branch, the most dangerous and volatile of the four existing branches in their realm.
Ah, I don't want to tell you much of the story because it's just so fascinating to learn on your own, but you can expect lots of great things from this book. The world building is amazing and really creative, I loved the idea of four dominating branches (sort of religious, but not quite) with their particular strengths and type of totem transformations - Pyro, Terra, Hydra and Aero. We mostly get to learn about the Terra and Pyro branch in this installment, but I know that in the sequel we'll get more from the Hydra and Aero.
Blossom and the Beast is a based on Beauty and the Beast, but there's more to it than just dealing with a beast and a curse. The Beast in this book is quite a dashing young man whose totem is wild and unpredictable, the perfect counter-match to Blossom's headstrong and carefree personality. This two were made for each other and I just loved the passion that blooms between them.(Note: This is NA with some steamy moments but clean, a HUGE plus for me!) Still, SO GOOD. Ahhhh!
THE ENDING THOUGH. I refuse to accept this new twist in their story. It broke my heart but I seriously hope it solves out soon. I NEED IT TO SOLVE ITSELF. *Takes deep breath*
Blossom and the Beast has taken root in my heart and I'm highly anticipating the sequel that will be based on Goldilocks and the Three Bears! BE STILL MY HEART. It will follow another great character found in the first installment, and though I am sad it won't be fully focused on Blossom and Kaide (he's the beast), I'm still glad they will be part of the series and their story will keep moving alongside the sequel.
This was an amazing book. I absolutely tore through it, reading this book and the other four in the series in a matter of days. R.S. McCoy has a gift for writing bewitching characters and forbidden romance.
First of all, this ends in a mid-scene cliffhanger. I wasn't expecting that. From the blurb of book two, I assumed this series would follow different characters. At about 50%, I was figuring that it was going to be a continuation. There was too much world building in its early stages for it to completely wrap up. However, I didn't expect it to just end with a cliffhanger of that magnitude. This might not bother many people, but I went in with different expectations and was slightly put out by it.
I have some conflicting emotions about this book. When I began reading, I was immediately intrigued. The world building was great. It was a unique take and very interesting. I was excited to have found something so different and well written. However, I became slightly frustrated with parts of it after the halfway point.
Humans are split into four different branches and at age 18, everyone undergoes transformation to receive their Totem or their animal shape. Somewhat similar to the idea of shifters. Here, marriages are arranged through the clan leader for trade. It brings to mind the old fashioned concept of marriage dowry except in this world the potential husband brings money and/or goods to the potential bride's clan leader. The more coveted the Totem animal of the bride, the more attractive the trade. Our free spirited heroine was not at all happy about this prospect. So when she was eventually traded, she responded with extreme rebellion and aggression towards her future husband which for me, was completely understandable. However, the H was nothing but accommodating and her tantrums became a bit tiresome after a time.
I also found there to be a lot of focus on tedious details, but then some of the more important issues, such as relationship building and plot progression, felt too abrupt. I would have liked to have seen their relationship unfold in a more natural fashion rather than going from hate to insta-love almost overnight.
Lastly, I thought the intimate scenes were terribly lacking. There wasn't enough there to feel any chemistry or passion between the characters. I'm not opposed to conservative on page intimacy. I enjoy a well written love scene that fades to black, but there was no fade to this one. It went from kissing to instant blackness. I didn't even realize anything had happened between the main characters their first night together until they woke up next to each other without their clothes. I was so confused. Passion, chemistry and fire between characters is possible even without anything graphic. Passion was missing for me which was disappointing because I enjoyed both characters quite a lot.
All in all, I still really enjoyed this book and will continue the series, but with a few changes, it could be truly awesome.
Weird political system causes a problem and some confusion. Not much build up to the romantic feels; one second, she's a prisoner, next she's being rescued. Kinda reminiscent of Disney's version. Ends in a cliffhanger. Overall, just okay; I probably won't read the rest of the series, though.
I am so happy to be working with R. S. McCoy to bring her book out into the world. Blossom and the Beast has officially been released today! As a lover of all things fairytale (especially Beauty and the Beast) I was thrilled when McCoy contacted me and asked if I'd be interested in reading and reviewing her paranormal retelling of Beauty and the Beast. This book is a very unique retelling and I feel like it has a little something in it for every reader out there.
The main character, Blossom, is a free spirited girl who wants nothing more than freedom. She is everything you want in a main character. Fierce, determined, and a big heart that is loyal to her family and friends. I loved Blossoms attitude. When Kaide comes along dragging her into marriage and a new life she takes it in stride. She continues to be an inquisitive pest. Seriously. The Alderwood is completely different from Pyro. Everything from clothes, to totems. But Blossom could care less. She's determined to make the best out of every situation.
I loved the idea of the totems and world in this story! That the animal they are represents their strongest character traits. Finding out Kaides totem was something I was so excited for. And Blossoms totem? Yeah WOW. The different parts of their world and their strong suits was something I enjoyed seeing throughout the story. The portals and the mix of the natural world with the new ways of their wold was crazy to see.
Kaide and Blosom made my heart stutter. THEY ARE SO PERFECT!! Kaide was a quiet, strong type and Blossom is an inquisitive, vibrant girl. Though you would think she would't fit at all with Kaide's world she surprises everyone by thriving in it. Their relationship was so well developed. I was expecting a quick romance with instant love but it wasn't. Blossom isn't the type to give away her heart lightly and Kaide is patient enough to wait for her.
My only problem with this story is how it slowed in the middle. We had a lot of tension in the beginning and the end was very fast paced but the middle it was like we were waiting for something. I would have preferred if we had gotten a bit more at the end. A little more of an explanation but it was like we just hit it and it was over. It didn't hinder my love for the story though.
Speaking of the end can I just say wow. The ending was nothing like I was expecting. I thought I had the whole story figured out but at the last minute I was swept off my feet by a whirlwind of new plot twists and anxiety. Yeah lots of anxiety. And anger. And tears. I need the second book NOW. Please and thank you.
I usually end with a 'who I recommend this book to' but at the beginning I said it had something for every reader. And it does in fact have everything. This retelling of Beauty and the Beast is like none I've ever read. Go grab your copy and enjoy falling into a unique, paranormal world full of bears and peaches (odd but true:)
Okay, so this book is a Fairy Tale Retelling of Beauty and the Beast. With that in mind, I thought I had a fairly good idea of what to expect. Boy, was I wrong!
In Blossom and the Beast, Blossom is the youngest daughter of a clan chief. Her father has a fox for a totem animal, her three brothers are bears(!), and it is suspected that Blossom will be the same. She has a very inquisitive mind and struggles against the rules and traditions that bind her under the canopy. On a trip out of camp (when she shouldn't have been) she is spotted by Kaide. He immediately wants her in his life and does whatever it takes to ensure it. He is determined to win her over though, so he treats her with every respect.
With political manoeuvrings galore, plus a sweet and sensual romance, this book is more than just a Fairy Tale Retelling! This is an amazing book in its own right, and should definitely be recognised as such. Amazing story, with well-rounded and believable characters, this story will entice and enthral.
I will say one thing about the ending without giving out any spoilers - BE CAREFUL!!! When I finished the ending, my Kindle nearly went for a burton! It was so close to hitting the wall as I stomped around my home in disbelief. Without giving too many details, I sort of knew how it was going to end, without knowing the specific details. When those details came to life, I screeched as I couldn't believe it. It was a train wreck that I could see happening, without any means of stopping it! I was actually complaining to Blossom (my Kindle) about her actions and what she should have done instead - much to the amusement of my husband may I just add!
With no editing or grammatical errors that I found, this story certainly deserves its 5-star rating. Absolutely fantastic and I really, REALLY, can't wait for the second book to see where it will go.

Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! May 31, 2016
I gave this book 3.75 stars! This is the first of R. S. McCoy's works that I've read and I have to say I really enjoyed it. My favorite part of it all: the relationships! She had me crying tears within the first 50 pages alone because she wrote such amazing familial relationships in this book. I loved Blossom's relationships with her three brothers (especially Hale) and her father. I could already see a great girl-girl friendship blooming. And of course, I'm all for the Blossom-Kaide ship, they are TOO CUTE! The main focus is really on Blossom; how she integrates herself into the Pyro lifestyle as well as how she adjusts to Kaide. I thought Kaide was a bit confusing at first, but as I kept getting to know him throughout the book, his actions and emotions began to make more sense. Blossom however, I like her, but I can't decide how much, it's teetering. As a retelling, it's very close to Beauty and the Beast with a political and almost Native American kind of twist. There is some political intrigue intertwined, but not a monarchy, more of an oligarchy. There is an underlying plot that is driven by Kaide and his political plans, but it's all very mysterious. This specific part of the book is still kinda murky to me in all honesty, making me a bit lost on where this series could be going. That is not a bad thing though! I do like that there's still more to learn. The "magic" system was really interesting, too! It's slightly complex, but not info-dumpy!
I know it took me a long time to read this book, but that is no reflection on how much I enjoyed this book! I'm super excited to continue with this series!
I loved this book! Beauty and the Beast has long been my favorite old school Disney movie and this book has some serious undertones with Beauty and the Beast references. Sometimes this doesn't work so well, but here the references are perfectly placed and pulled at my heart strings. Especially the end scene with Kaide. I won't pretend I wasn't frustrated with Blossom for a while because of her attitude. At the same time, there were so many factors playing into it that I could understand why the attitude from her and the way he is. Kaide is way out of his element when it comes to the beautiful woman he bartered for as his future wife. She is wild and untameable; a trait he admires in her because he recognizes a kindred spirit. The ending was just emotionally wracking. Like stitches being torn out of a raw wound. It is a serious cliffhanger. But I cannot wait to see more from this series!!
Blossom is the daughter of famous bear clan in Alderwood, but the vice syndicate Kaide, smells in love with her from afar, and trades for hand in marriage. They quickly grow to know one another, and plots fall into place to destroy a political career and a happy ever after.
Here's what I didn't like: Actually.... let me just say that the first 30 to 40% of this book had real potential and I actually kept reading it even when I should've gone to bed. But the more I read, the more I saw problems cropping up. There's something in the world that I don't understand, and it's how it came to be as it is. At first. I just thought it was an alternate universe of shape shifters with its own rich history. Then there were small little slips here, about the time pre-war. What was this time? I don't know! But having artifacts from that place is a crime, but what happened to cause the war? It must be important as it's certainly a plot device, but I can't tell you how it came to be, but I definitely know how it'll be used. I think the world building, from afar looks great, but the more you read, the less solid the world building becomes. That was a big disappointment. Kaide doesn't have flaws. His POVs serve to show us how much he cares for Blossom. He has no flaws except his totem, but even then... is it really a flaw? The further we read, the more he says one thing, then does another. The spring festival. While I get the plot devices that went on, it felt wholly unbelievable. Kaide is smart and politically savvy, and I just can't see how he'd allow his own mistakes to happen. It also felt like Blossom was destined to reach the wrong conclusion on everything, and then it'd take chapters to clear it up. She's very much a snowflake and I didn't quite like her half the time. Blossom was stabbed in the shoulder, and that wound was completely forgotten about once it happened. By the author. I think more time passed than the 12 days. On the whole, time felt inconsistent. But mostly, I didn't care for the last 30% of the book. Blossom was an idiot for most of the book.
Here's what I liked: I liked the hints to the world pre-war (but it's barely a hint, keep in mind.) I liked the idea around totems, and branches of the tree. I liked Hale's coin, and it was a light read.
Overall, the pacing was good for the most part, but sometimes it dragged and those parts were easily skipped over without impacting the story. This is a decent retelling of beauty and the beast, but with the caveat of so long as you don't look past the surface.
I love retellings but somehow, I didn't get the "promised" beauty-and-the-beast-vibe from this book. Which does not make it a bad book, it just didn't follow up on my expectations. Before anyone shouts at me - I see the story aligning in the same way, but it just didn't give me the same feeling/mood. On the same note, it does give of fairy tale vibes, so I kind of got what I wanted.. somewhat. I am ranting.
Nonetheless, I really liked this book. I love the whole totem-setup (for those who have not read the book or anything about it, when you turn 18 you get an animal-form "assigned" to you. It's hereditary which animal you get, with few exceptions). I love the characters, their development and their chemistry together.
Sometimes I felt like characters (especially Blossom) were reacting/making choices like complete idiots. It is kind of reasonable with their background, but at the same time, people making decisions/conclusions/choices that are clearly bad and should be obvious even for the most clueless person do annoy me.
This was a fantastic book. Set in some sort of post apocalyptic world, where society has already stabilized, Blossom gets sold to Kaide to be his wife. He seems very willing to let her make her own decisions for someone who bought another person. The characters were riveting, the plot unfolded nicely. I wish I had known going in that it wasn't a stand alone book. I defiantly need to read the next one to see what happens, even though it seems like the next has a new cast of main characters.
Or at least for the past year since it's been published.
What a thoroughly lovely and enjoyable book! This was so much fun to read, although the bear on the cover did make me think that the beast might be a bear. :P It's almost impossible to describe how cute this book was, how much it made me hold my breath, and how much I wanted to read even more as the hours passed and I realized that I wasn't going to be putting this book down any time soon.
**SPOILER ALERT** I was loving this story. The depth and creation of this world and its character is breathtaking. The interaction between the main characters draws you into the story. The ending left me cold and angry. I know there is another book in this series, but it's supposed to be about the niece. Continuing Blossom's and Beast's story in Raene's book seems like it will take away from Raene's story, so I am greatly disappointed for I am a fan that a book should stand on its own, even it is part of a series. This book would have been a 5 star masterpiece if not for the ending.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. In this retelling of Beauty and the Beast, I was happy to meet Blossom and Kaide as well as the other characters in the story. It was beautifully well written. This was my first story that I've read by this author. I'm sorry to say I hadn't read her work sooner. My favorite character is of course Blossom, and I can wait to see where her story takes her.
Blossom is only weeks from her transformation and is looking forward to finding out what animal for she will be able to take. She expects it to be a brown bear like her brothers. While exploring Alderwood she runs into Kaide, a political star from another branch, known for his violence. What will happen when Blossom becomes his bride. Fast-paced read with loads of drama and suspense. I liked the characters as well as the story. Looking forward to more.
I’ve had this book sitting in my e-reader since it came out and I admit, it was a mistake to have waited this long to read it! Once I started, I could not put it down! It just sank its hooks in me from the beginning. You definitely see the parallels to the original fairy tale, but the author takes a whole new approach and I love it! That ending though!!!
I found Blossom annoying and in my opinion, the things that made beauty and the beast cute/more believable, were all the things this books skipped so this was just annoying YA. That’s what I get for reading a YA book I bought years ago.
I also remember when I bought this that the seller told me it was separate stories but this clearly ended in a cliff hanger. So that pmo.
End twist was killer. Loved the details, the emotions, most characters. Pfffbt on calling her beauty, I liked her name as was. I am looking forward to the second one!!!
Such an amazing read. It's like a post apocalyptic twist on the original Beauty and the Beast story. It's a slow go at first but the ending leaves you begging for more!
Blossom & the Beast by RS McCoy is the story of Blossom Frane, the youngest daughter of the head of a Bear Clan who is just weeks away from her transformation when she meets Kaide Landel who takes an instant fancy to her and whisks her away as his prospective bride. Blossom is feeling like Beauty from Beauty and the Beast, whisked to an unknown land against her wishes by a brooding Beast. But is Kaide really the Beast she thinks him to be?
This is the first book by RS McCoy that I have read and when I heard about it the first time from the author, I got intrigued by the whole Beauty and the Beast reimagining that she hinted at!
The cover is okay, nothing very spectacular about it. It is the title and the blurb that are interesting and will attract the attention of readers, especially paranormal romance lovers.
The plot is well conceived and executed and the author had me intrigued right from the start. Her world building is meticulous and while she started slow, she soon picked up pace and had me visualizing the world as she sketched it in the book. The book is set in a future time with the world divided in four groups representing fire, water, air and earth where each human has a totem (animal transformation) which he or she gains at a certain age. Blossom is just weeks away from gaining her totem which she hopes is a bear just like her mother and brothers.
I empathized with Blossom right from the start. She is overly protected to the point of being a prisoner with no choice of her own in even the simple matters like going anywhere at will! She also knows that one day she will be traded to her future husband in exchange for food, fabric and other goods that support her clan. This is the way of life in her world and she knows it but doesn't necessarily like it. Then when Kaide, a fire clan high ranking official, a Vice Syndicate, trades her from her father, she is left with no choice but to accompany him but is still hell bent at being difficult at every turn. I enjoyed her altercations with Kaide right from the start.
Both Kaide and Blossom are feisty, headstrong and stubborn characters and it was entertaining watching them butt heads. Kaide is a strong, alpha character and I loved him right from the start. He is brooding and dangerous but nevertheless a good man and a big softy. I loved how he fumbled in his efforts to win Blossom's affections and his shyness also had me falling more in love with him. A complex man with a past, his character is developed with expertise by the author and she unravels the layers to his character all through the book that not only took the story forward but also kept up the interest in it.
I was also intrigued by Blossom's three brothers and Kaide's niece and am eager to read their own story. Hope the author tells us their story soon!
The story is fast paced and apart from Blossom and Kaide's romance, there is plenty of suspense, political manipulation and intrigue in Kaide's career as a politician that will affect and change his and Blossom's lives forever! All this and more is handled with ease by RS McCoy and I loved her writing style and know that I will be checking out her other books too while I wait for the next book in this series.
The story ends in a cliffhanger and while I don't like books with cliffhangers, I didn't feel very angry at being left hanging here because the story gradually paced to it and didn't abruptly end. I got to see Blossom and Kaide's romance come to a everlasting love before the ending so this did pacify me a little. Still the reader is left to wait for the next installment which hopefully will take Blossom and Kaide's story forward so this did make me feel a bit dissatisfied but apart from this, Blossom & the Beast by RS McCoy is an entertaining and different story that had me engaged throughout and has left me wanting to read the next book.
4 out of 5 to Blossom & the Beast by RS McCoy and recommended to all lovers of paranormal romance.
I received an ARC from the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced. This review is also available on Njkinny's World of Books & Stuff
You will love this book for the wonderful characters!!
What a wonderfully new story! Blossom is such a strong character you fall in love with her. The plot of this series is so full and all the characters are rich and stand out as their own persona. Alice is a strong man in his own. With a lot to loss bits and help wanting blossom . This author gives an excellent description of the views of scenery and the different sites that blossom sees.
This is another re-telling. This time it's a different take on Beauty and the Beast. I love re-tellings. I think this review is just timely since a new version of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson is coming out in theaters this March 2017.
Blossom and the Beast is an absolutely endearing tale of two people of different backgrounds falling in love with each other more as each day passes. It will make you swoon and fall in love with Blossom and Kaide.
Kaide is my kind of guy. The serious and brooding on the outside but really sweet and thoughtful. One whose decisions are well-thought out and well-meaning.
I love Blossom. She's a no muss, no fuss kind of girl which I would like to think I am also. One who is not concerned with pretty dresses and parties. Free-spirited and loves to discover the world on her own. Stubborn as a bull but also kind and smart. I think Blossom and I have a lot in common. She could well be my alter-ego.
I love Argeron Frane or more fondly called as DA. He is the embodiment of a great father and clan leader. If I were one of the citizens of Alder, I would like to be a Terra and be part of Da's clan. He is fair and wise. His actions and decisions are also very reasonable.
Having read two of R.S. McCoy's works, I should at least be little familiar with her writing style. Those burst of surprises within the story and on the last chapters. Those things should not surprise me anymore but I was caught with my jaw open. It was shameful but I admit it was very exciting as well. To be surprised over and over is the best thing every reader could hope. I was stunned and had to remind myself that I have book two ready to continue my journey. And that is one of the best things about R.S. McCoy, aside from spinning astounding tales, she is also generous. When she sends you an ARC, if there is a book that came before it, she will always include it. I bear witness to this generosity twice.
I give the book a hundred beautiful blossoms. I relished every word in this book. I was transported to the forest in Alderwood and to the bustling city of Pyrona. An amalgamation of both the crude and the advanced. Where the lifestyles of the inhabitants are polar opposites. Where people are of varied temperaments and priorities. But is not a far cry from reality. I think it may even be an accurate mirror of what real events are.
I think it's time I include R.S. McCoy to my favorite authors' list. She deserves it. She has continued to astonish me with her writing prowess. Her ability to create characters that are not far from real people. Not larger-than-life personas but relatable ones. Her stories are so engrossing that I sometimes forget they are not real because I want to live in them. Thank you for the great stories. You rock!
I'm also going because I want to know what it is. I want to know what parts of me are the strongest. I know that might not happen, but I have to take that chance. - R.S. McCoy, Blossom and the Beast -
This is my third time going deep into Rachel's book as I have had the opportunity to read and review the first book of The Luminary Chronicles as well as both books of The Extractions Files. If you have not read them, well I can but only highly recommend them especially The Extractions Files that are a huge favorite of mine and some wonderful Sci-Fi.
So when Rachel offered the possibility to review this new series, I could not say no. I just finished reading this baby all in one sitting and again I am blown away. Don't get me wrong, based on previous experience I knew it will be good but this pretty much great.
The Extractions Files is more Sci-Fi, The Luminary Chronicles I would say is more Mythology and here we have a mix of Fantasy and Fairy Tales all in an explosive mix. I never though too much of Fantasy and Fairy Tales to be honest and if I actually think about it now, I would say that for me (and no I did not look up some wiki page for a proper definition) Fantasy is our contemporary way of defining Fairy Tales and making them geared towards adults and not kids.
The debate isn't there anyways...
Now lets talk about Blossom and the Beast. I don't know what to say other than I just LOVED IT!!! I am trying very hard to go give too many spoilers away but that ending...
OMG!!!!!
OMG!!!!!
OMG!!!!!
Never saw it coming!!!!
Which makes IMHO the whole book out of this world brilliant! Any one who reads my blog knows that I always fall head over heals in love with those books that really manage to surprise me.
We have another winner here my friends!
Ok, so gushing aside... let us talk about Blossom and Kaide. There is a lot to love about our power couple in the book. Blossom is fiercely independent and Kaide well overprotective. Makes for an explosive match but there lies the fun.
I really liked both of them a lot and here again as usual I admit to really liking Kaide just a pinch more than Blossom because out of the 2 of them, he is more the "tortured" one. Blossom is so strong and stubborn and it was fun seeing her fall in love with Kaide...
Ok guys, this isn't much of a spoiler... it's all in the title.
But yes it was much watching her falling for him, cause that boy was a goner from the moment he met her.
I knew it!
It was obvious, wasn't it?
Outside of the romance, we have intrigue, scheming, plotting and whole bunch of really bad people. That is always fun and here it was used in such a smart way to add dimension and extra spice and plot twists to our story.
Honestly, it was great and I cannot wait to read book 2. Now I have to pray that book 2 is the last bit cause my heart will not be able to wait for a book 3 to come out. Thanks for the ARC Rachel, you have as usual managed to outdo yourself and I enjoyed every page of this book!
If you haven't read any of Rachel's other books well you guys are missing out and this is a great one to start or go crazy with any of her other books, they are all amazing!!
