Short, sassy, and SEXY.

It's all about butt plugs, phonebooks, rose petals, and two men getting creative while they're apart.

Ryan and Scott are able to talk honestly about Ryan's too frequent business trips. There's so much trust in this relationship, it's awe inspiring.

Throw in a little humor, a bit of awkward, a few dirty-sounding last names, and you got yourself a game of Who Knew Phone Sex Could Be This Much Fun?

Short, sweet, and also sexy. Amy Lane’s fluffy reads are the perfect pick-me-ups.
description

On yet another business trip, Ryan is feeling bored and frustrated. His boyfriend Scott tries to cheer him up, but he can’t help but be a bit bummed over spending his birthday away from home. Fortunately, Scott knows just what to do to distract both of them up. Phone sex.

I was grinning from the first page. This short is meant to make readers smile, and it achieves that. Even the sex is funny, which I wasn’t so sure about at first, but it worked well. That’s not to say that the phone sex isn’t hot, because it is. We’ve got a usual top getting his inner bottom on with a butt plug while his boyfriend talks dirty to him. Of course it’s hot.

Despite being very short and consisting mostly of a telephone sex scene, I wouldn’t categorize ‘Phonebook’ as PWP. The couple in this book are still fairly new, and are working out some issues. Ryan is at a crossroads, having to choose between his career and his relationship. However it’s angst-free, as Ryan and Scott hash out the problem and come to an agreement pretty quickly.

‘Phonebook’ is the follow up to a short story written by Amy Lane in an anthology that is no longer in print. However, this short story works fine as a stand alone. Though if you do want to wait for it, Amy Lane posted on her blog that the first story will be re-released sometime in May.

I do have to note that I read this short story twice, and liked it more so the second time. When I first read this story, I gave it three stars. I liked it well enough, but it was missing something. After reading the sequel, Puppy, Car, and Snow, I decided to re-read ‘Phonebook’ and enjoyed it much more the second time around. The extra context and emotional connection makes ‘Phonebook’ a much better read. So I’d highly recommend reading the sequel before backtracking.

Overall, ‘Phonebook’ is a cute, sexy, and quick read. If you’re looking for a filler read, this freebie is a good bet.

Note: This book was provided to me by the publisher through Hearts on Fire Reviews in exchange for an impartial review.

Sweet! Compellingly romantic and interesting, this is a story about Ryan and Scott, who apparently appeared in a short story a few years ago called The Shirt. Though I never read that one, I now want to read it because this couple is perfect together and this story was so much fun.

Not a typical phone sex story, in this one the couple finds themselves separated on the eve of Ryan’s 30th birthday, and both are upset that he can’t get back home in time. Ryan is a lawyer, trying to work his way up the ladder to partner, and he’s been going out of town a few times a month to take clients’ depositions. But now that he’s with Scott, the shine is off the ladder he’s been climbing, and all he wants is to be with his boyfriend. Sweet and shy and self-conscious, phone sex never works for him. Not so for Scotty who has no qualms about beating off while he’s talking to Ryan on the phone.

When Scott gets commanding and points Ryan toward the side pocket of his suitcase, instead of finding the bottle of lube he suspects Scotty hid, he finds lube, a cock ring and a butt plug. It’s evident Scotty plans to talk him through using them, one way or another. Who would have thought that Scott’s sexy commanding voice reading the phone book could be so much fun? These two are destined for more happiness than just phone sex though, but you have to pick up this short story to find out what else happens.

This can certainly be read as a standalone and can be devoured quickly. If you need to find your happy place, by all means pick up this book. It’s light and uplifting and simply fun to read. Finding a happy place is guaranteed!

We've all heard the phrase, "He could read me the phonebook......" and know exactly what it means. Lane takes a spin of this and incorporates it in this rerelease of a 2010 novella. Ryan and Scott are in an established relationship, and Ryan has to travel......again......on his birthday. Scott isn't so enthusiastic about the amount of travel time Ryan has been racking up, and he makes his displeasure known.

This was a short, 412 Kindle locations short, novella. But it was very cute and snarky and funny and sweet. Ryan and Scott take advantage of their time away from each other by getting inventive with phone sex, toys, and.... you guessed it!......even a phonebook.

What I loved the most is that they could make fun of each other about the "awkwardness" that can insert itself into phone sex. Dirty talk gone wrong, jokes when the other MC is just getting worked up, etc. I always enjoy how RL invades Lane's stories, even these shorter ones. Recommended for Lane lovers.

This is a sequel of a story called "Shirt" in Curious?: A Woman's Introduction to Gay Romance. I must take a note for that story, by the way, it WAS AMAZINGLY HOT!!! Probably HOTTER than anything of Amy Lane I have read before.

Somehow, I miss this one. And since I realized that Puppy, Car, and Snow is the 3rd in the Ryan & Scott stories, I backtracked this one first before I am catching up with that one. This story is still HOT. It involves a not-really phone sex, and well, some creative reading of phonebook names to induce orgasm (tricky, but it seems doable for these guys *lol*). I do like "Shirt" better though, because that one is hotter.

Now I'm ready for story #3. I guess I can still up for a holiday story

I kind of like these guys; hoping I remember to check for more of them when I have access to a computer. Also need to check duplicates as I pretty sure I shelved a version of this book with a mostly nekkid guy on the cover...

What's a man to do when phone sex just doesn't work...

'Puppy, Car and Snow' was the first story I read that featured Ryan & Scott and ironically the third story that Ms Lane wrote about this couple. I enjoyed it so much that when I stumbled across this one I just had to read it. 'Phonebook' is the second story about them and for most of the story they're not even in the same city and yet somehow this turned out to be a very sweet and sexy little interlude.

Ryan is out of town on business and these men are missing each other something fierce. So what's a man to do? Why have phonebook sex...of course and if you want to know what that is you'll need to read the story. It's fun and steamy times for these men as they discover that if phone sex isn't your thing there's always the phonebook.

'Phonebook' was a short, sweet, sexy break for me that I thoroughly enjoyed and now I find myself wondering if I should track down the Ms Lane's first story about these two men. I usually read a series from start to finish but in this case I'm willing to make an exception and read from finish to start.

Scotty is a clingy boyfriend. I usually hate this kind of person, in books and in a real life.
But the clingy side of Scott to Ryan is adorable.
I don't think Ryan annoyed by it. He, actually, loved that part of Scott.
And while Scott planned his 'revenge' for not being 'home' on Ryan's birthday, Ryan gave him a chilling surprised for him.

I mean chilling, really chilling. And Scotty have to make it a little bit... *ehem*...warm.
I adore this couple so much!

So we met Ryan and Scott in the Shirt… Ryan is the more conservative of the two lovers and he’s stuck on a business trip for his birthday. They try some phone sex – but both feel too awkward with the “smutty talk” so they abort – until… Scott is a resourceful guy and he ends up “gifting” Ryan with something that helps the process along…

The big issue, however, is Ryan’s job… the two have a heart to heart about their future and Ryan returns Scott’s surprise with one of his own.

**

This is a super cute series that I’m glad to see is being re-issued. Amy has said all three parts will be available for free eventually from Dreamspinner. For now… enjoy book two even if you missed book one. It’s sweet and sexy and fun.

This story is a continuation of Ryan and Scott's story The Shirt in the Curious Anthology but it can be read on it's own no problem. This story is as beautifully crafted as all of Amy Lane's stories and it's scorching hot as well. It should not be missed.

Honey, it's not you .... it's me. I mean, you're great and we've had fun times together, but I'm just not feelin' it. My bad.

Yeah, maybe I wasn't in the mood for this story, but I felt pretty much "meh" through the entire time. Sorry.

I won this book free from Amy Lane through Chris’ giveaway – so thank you to both of them for that! I entered the contest because of the author, who I’ve so far loved everything she’s written. So it was a pleasant surprise to realize this is story is a sequel to the really great story Shirt from the Curious Anthology. You don’t need to read the previous story – this stands alone just fine – but you can if you’re curious how Ryan and Scott met. It’s a great revisit to characters that are fun, adorable, and slightly geeky in the best ways.

The set up is really easy and involves Ryan away on a business trip. Travel is a huge part of Ryan’s job and he has reasons, both practical and financial, that play into so much travel but neither Scott or Ryan are happy about the absence. While away one night Scott tries to spice things up on the phone but the results are.. well unexpected.

This is just a quick story (30 pages with the DSP exaggerated font) so the characters have two brief sex scenes with a lot of snappy dialogue. As expected, the author delivers a cute and fun story that manages to be geek chic. Ryan is seriously cute when he gets shy about phone sex and Scott’s creative way of using the phonebook is both hot and adorable. The characters aren’t perfect, Scott is beyond vain, but it’s nice to see how these two create a solid, happy life together without the cliché perfection stereotypes. They feel honest in the best, most endearing ways.

I’d give this one a 3.5 just because I think I liked Shirt better, but that’s just my preference.

I really adore this couple. This is one series i've read out of order and everything still made sense.
I first met Ryan and Scott in Puppy, Car, and Snow, which is the third book that was absolutely awesome. Insta-love has never been my thing, but you try telling Scotty you don't believe in it.

Also read Curious?: A Woman's Introduction to Gay Romance, which has the first short on how Ryan & Scott met.

This one has Ryan on a business trip a day before his birthday and they're both feeling the strain of the separation. What i love about all three books is how they're happy and light but at the same time can blow your mind with the hot sex and the sneaky emotions.

Recommendation enough?

Poor Ryan travels regularly with his job, and misses his beloved Scott when he’s gone. Ryan has no ability to get steamy over the phone, but Scott has no such problems! He finds intriguing new ways to get things heated and help them have a together experience while apart.

This is a continuation of a story, and though I’ve not read the first part, I had no problem following along here. It’s a standalone in the best sense. A cute, very short story that will make you smile. Three stars of fun!

On a business trip, Scotty and Ryan have tried doin the phone sex thing, but it never really worked out, so... they thought they'd try something different.... way different lol, I didn't get it but it worked for them. It was cute, and I like how it ended..
Just a short, cute read about two incredibly cute guys who try to keep things interesting while missing each other when their apart.

I really do like these two MC. Even though these are short short stories we have just enough characters to get to know them a little more each time. And they are just sweet, caring, fun characters. Scott keep Ryan light and Ryan helps keep Scott grounded, yet doesn't push him into 'growing up'.

Sadly I must leave the series here. I can't justify to myself paying 3$ for an 80 page book.

2021: I remembered as little of this as I did the first short story, contrary to the (undated) original review below, but I agree with past me. Plus, this one is straight-up adorable, and ends precisely where it should. And, aha, #3, Puppy, Car, and Snow, is in my library. How convenient!
