I thought this series was a solid 4 star one. I fell in love with the characters, their unique individuality, their strengths and weaknesses. I was fascinated by their differences and how fate and life brought them together.

The author showed a lot of inventiveness with this book. Each character well developed and blending in naturally with the rest of the story as well as cast. The story flowing so easily from one event to the other. And the wide variety of supernatural things occurring along the way.

What made me drop the rating to a three star on the closing book was the rather blend ending. I guess it just didn't quite match my expectations. For the supernatural feel of the world created in these pages, I wasn't prepared for the normal closure approached. Or rather yet, I would have wanted it to be left unsaid, something for the distant, unforeseeable future. Or I just didn't want to have my heroes face one challenge they couldn't overcome.

I finished the final book in the Partnership in Blood series and it was as amazing as all the others, even more so as it is the culmination of a great story. I started from the first book loving Orlando and Alain and at the end I loved them even more. When you cry at the end you know the author got to you. The intricate story, the way you switch from one set of people to another so it never gets boring, was superb. It's like a movie where you see how the big picture relates to all the different characters, see their reactions, and move to the next. I particularly enjoyed seeing Raymond and Jean's reactions and their growth together and as leaders. If you are looking to become completely lost in another world, this series is a must-have.

This book was a tough one to handle. Many things falling apart and some coming back together. New alliances growing stronger and one almost gone before it really got off the ground.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

Where to start with this one! This is the fourth long book in this series which in fact only covers a time span of about 6 weeks. Apart from the war waging on the main basis for the story is the strange and new alliance formed between wizards and vampires.

As this alliance started out no one knew or could expect all the ramifications associated with the blood bond that these pairs formed. For the most part all the partnerships worked with one very obvious exception being Jude who was possible the most obnoxious person/vampire I have ever read about!

In Reparation Alain is at his very worst as the wizards and vampires try to find Serrier’s hideout in order to rescue Orlando. Their bond is unique which means the rescue attempt only has a certain time frame before Orlando ends up in serious trouble as he can no longer feed from anyone except Alain.

It will take the oldest and most reclusive vampire in Paris to eventually find him but even as Alain has him back in his arms he fears it is too late to save his beloved. Along with Orlando’s freedom comes the end of the war as most of the black wizards are rounded up and Serrier finally meets his end.

This book, before the epilogue, wound up to a natural conclusion and I had worked out who the spy was and was glad to see he finally got a bit of happiness. The other partnerships seemed to be solid as the Milice was wound down and everyone made plans to return to their lives pre-war.

For me personally the rest of the book faded to black when I got to the epilogue. I was left a tearful mess and felt absolutely slayed. My advice to everyone, if like me you fell in love with the wizards and vampires of the Partnership in Blood series, would be to read it with a stiff drink and a box of tissues!

The Partnership in Blood series had a lot of cheese, a ton of clichés, and quite a few lengthy sex scenes among all of the many characters and their respective partners (across all sexual preferences: m/m, m/f, and f/f), but surprisingly I somewhat enjoyed it all (which was why I bothered to read all four books). I did come to appreciate the many characters and their respective flaws and good characteristics, and a part of me wanted to look past the eyerolls and problem-solving coincidences to see more of them.

The four books in this series are really more like four parts to a very long novel as there isn’t really any significant plot ending points until the end of the fourth book. It just keeps on going and going and going like the Energizer bunny. In fact, the Energizer bunny is a good metaphor for this series as I prefer using Energizer batteries, but my eyes twitch in the presence of pink bunnies (eugh). So I just tend to look past the icon and trudge on.

There are characters where I want to shove a cactus up their annoying bums and characters that are only there to be a plot device and therefore do not have an iota of substance. Though I do like many of the characters who were actually fleshed out a little in the Partnership in Blood series, I think they also were detrimental as well. With all those characters to take care of, the plot sort of got washed away and the story went to the predictable cliché box.

Overall I give the entire series 3 stars. I liked it, but it just didn’t fully do it for me.

A very long, angsty ending to the Partnership in Blood saga. I enjoyed the story. However, I really wished I would have stopped reading at the final chapter. The epilogue almost ruined it for me. Unfortunately, I can't explain why without giving away the ending.

While it was a satisfactory conclusion with all the ends tied up, the epilogue was bittersweet. It dragged on in spots but I enjoyed it overall. I’m not sure if I will continue with the spin-off books or book 5 which is set 130 years in the future as I read all four of these back to back and am a little glutted with the characters.

Recensione in Anteprima: "RISARCIMENTO DI SANGUE" di Ariel Tachna.
http://insaziabililetture.blogspot.it...
Fermi, fermi tutti.

To be continued

4.5 star review by Vicki

This book is all about the war. It’s really the finale of the four book series, yes there are more books, but this is the end of the wizard war.

So we have the same characters continuing in this book from the previous ones, the same romances and the same issues. Most are doing well, the relationships have had time to stabilize, and a balance has been established for all but Adel and Jude. Jude is still a douche! But the others are all doing well. I’m finding myself drawn toward Jean and Raymond this time I’m reading them, I still dearly love Orlando and Alain, but Raymond and Jean are sneaking their way in to my heart! Lots of sex happens, between boys and boys, girls and girls, and boys and girls. I do like seeing the different pairings!

The plot is centered around two things, the frantic search for the missing Orlando, and the ramping up of the war efforts. It’s all coming to a head with this book and the war ends very dramatically with all hands on deck. Can you tell I’m trying not to give anything away? You’ll just have to read it to see who does what! But it is great. There has been this big build up over the last three books, introducing characters, setting everything up, the drama, now we get the payoff in the big epic battle scene. Excellent!

Once the war is over there is a bit of a letdown, everyone relaxes, recovers and decides what to do next. What couples will continue, which will end, who takes over what leadership roles, and settling the vampires citizenship issues. And a couple of trials…. It’s all very calm and satisfying.

Now we need to talk about the epilogue. So this is a reread for me, obviously, and I remember the pain of the epilogue quite well from my first read FIVE years ago. Yes, it is painful. I’ve chatted with Ariel about it, she said she didn’t like it either but had to do it. She saw the meeting of Orlando and Alain, the rescue of Orlando, and the final scene of the book and had to do it, even though it sucks. And it does. But it’s so beautiful. So be prepared, that’s all I’ll say.

I can’t decide which is my favorite of the first four books, I love the newness of the first one, the first meetings, the flush of new love and relationships, but I love the drama and excitement of this one. It all builds up to this book, these moments. It’s fast and exciting, dramatic and scary. I loved it! Then the resolutions to the various parts are all exactly as you’d want. Just perfect!

Please note: I originally read this series in November 2011. I'm updating the formatting and adding the disclosure that the author provided me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My Synopsis: With Orlando still in the hands of the dark wizards, Alain desperately searches for his partner. The rest of the Milice wizards are fighting off the dark wizards,w ho have set themselves to wreaking havoc all over Paris and the surrounding areas. Meanwhile, two dark wizards – Eric, who switched sides two years ago, and his friend Vincent – are finally fed up with the machinations of the leader of the dark wizards, and come up with a desperate plot to try to not only save Orlando, but to themselves reach the Milice and switch sides. Will Alain find Orlando in time? How will the Milice defeat the dark wizards – or will they even be able to?

My Thoughts: This is a wonderful ending to the series. I noticed that one of the lists this book can be found on is “Best tearjerkers with a happy ending” and that really does describe it quite well, overall. One thing I sort of enjoyed – unlike many books of this nature, the war itself is actually finished a bit over half-way through the book, and the rest of it deals with the repercussions and reactions of the various people involved. Speaking of the series overall, it’s a great bit of world-building, and a the plot develops wonderfully, as do the characters. I can highly recommend the Partnership in Blood series. There are two spin-off books available in the series currently: A Perilous Partnership and Reluctant Partners, which I’ll be reviewing next weekend. Watch for it!

In Reparations in Blood, the author is finally able to cull through the extraneous crap that plagued the earlier books in this series, and focus on the key characters. There is no doubt that the key characters in this series of novels are Alain (a wizard) and Orlando (a vampire). In the background of a magical war, we learn of the love affair between these two characters. For one thousand pages over the course of four novels, the author develops this relationship -- the entire focus of the relationship for the first 996 pages of the novels is a two year period of time the culminates in the climactic ending of the wizard war.

That would have been a great place to end the story -- the reader would be left to wonder about the future life of the main characters and wanting to know more about them, even though their written stories are concluded. But NOOOOO, this author has to bang any independent thought out of our heads and write a four page epilogue -- a total cop out of an ending. Here's the epilogue -- fast forward 94 years, and the lovers are dead. It was an horrendous way to end a story that this Author had apparently nurtured for years and years and leaves this reader more annoyed than anything.

My earlier reviews of this author's work have raised to be a questions concerning her ability to write M/M romance -- questioning whether she understands the inner emotional workings of the commitment between two men. This novel does not particularly change my thoughts concerning the author's failings, however, she has been able to eliminate many of the criticisms that plagued her earlier novels.

On the goodreads scale, this book scores 2.5 stars for me.

This is the finale (sort of) to the Partnership in Blood series. Really, it’s the end of the war, there is still some relationship stuff to be dealt with in 3 more books that follow.
Essentially, we see the various couples moving through their relationships some more. Some more sex. Some more angst. Some more drama.

Orlando goes missing. This is a huge hurdle in this book. It takes a lot of cooperation to get him back.

After the war dies down, the focus is on the couples and what will happen next.

If I could I would tell you to NOT READ THE EPILOGUE. Personally, it really didn’t need to be there and just made me cry and cry. I got kinda mad in fact… I can’t understand why it was necessary, unless it was just one more bit of proof of the devotion between these two characters…

Anyhow, I was glad to see the war finally end and know that in the upcoming books we get to see more of these wonderful characters that Ariel Tachna has done such an amazing job of creating.

If I had to give an overall summary for the series it would be this: If you enjoy very detailed stories, with an abundance of central characters, if you don’t mind f/f and m/f storylines and you don’t mind a good cry, you’ll find this series highly satisfying.

I had to round this book down to 3.5 of 5 stars for the Epilogue alone. Personal preference. I guess I just enjoy living in ignorance sometimes…

The final book in Ms. Tachna's Partnership in Blood series, Reparation in Blood, concludes the Parisian saga that pitted good wizard against black magic wizard, that gave birth to the vampire/wizard partnership, that threw unsuspecting lovers together - some fighting it all the way, but mostly it taught us enough French that we too can walk the streets of Paris and ride the Metro with confidence.

Aside from the issues that I've had with the hetero and lesbian sex in the series, I think that Ms. Tachna wrote a very tight story that accomplished everything that the plot promised. The series is very cohesive and each book flows into the next.

However, the ending...

I give Reparation in Blood four stars.

What can I say?

I loved the first 3 books in this series. Well written, fabulous and complex story, characters with depth that continue to grow from book to book. This one is the best of the bunch.

While the focus of the book is still on Alain and Orlando - the author fleshes out several of the other duos. As in real life, the good guys aren't all good, and the bad guys aren't always all bad. She handles the sexual interactions between M/M, F/F, and M/F very well. Most of the partners are M/M, but it is refreshing when she gives us a glimpse of the other couples as well.

The writing is elegant, but not stuffy or stilted. Since each pairing includes a wizard and a vampire, there is plenty of biting going on. The war between the dark wizards and the Alliance is coming to an end - one way or another. I won't spoil anything here.

The ending - WOW! That is actually what I said when I finished this book. Very well done.

I usually do not write a review but I just finished this series and want to let you know what a wonderful story line Ariel has done with the Partnership of Blood books. For those of you who have not read this series I suggest you give it a whirl! I fell in love with Orlando and Alain as well as all the other pairs that came together. This is an amazing love story all the way, make sure you have tissues with you for the ending, absolutely beautiful!

Not a huge surprise I loved this book. Ariel always yanks me right in and refuses to let me go until I get to the end. This has only whetted my appetite for the next book in the series.

She's done a superb job of wrapping up the war and it's aftermath in Reparation. I had a hard time putting this book down. I was especially struck by the way she dealt with the immortality of her vamps and the inevitable pain caused by falling in love with a mortal. Nicely done.

Although i only read the last chapter of this book (i kinda lost interest in the series but still wanted to know how it ended), just reading that chapter was totally worth it. I wished the ending could have been different, but somehow i expected it would be like this since Merlin's vampire was mentioned, but it didn't stop me from shedding a lot of tears.

This is truly one story divided into four books so I'll review the series. It's lengthy, rally lengthy, but I read them over a weekend I was so lost in the story. The many characters held my attention and so did the action. The ending of book four was beautifully done and made the series. I feel satisfied which is rare at the end of a series, but what happened with Adele?

Lots of action. Not quite as many m/f and f/f scenes as the previous books (though there were some). Excellent ending to the series. And the epilogue was perfect! I can't say nything else without giving it all away, but I think it was the perfect ending.

With the war ended and few ddark wizards remaining, the partners find themselves reluctant to break the blood bond between them. Most partners find themselves in love with the partner that they were reluctant to bond with. The series was a fun, light read.
