Every time I open a book by MaryLu Tyndall (which sadly hasn’t been as often as I would like), I am swept away from word one. Caught up in the story and unable – not to mention, unwilling – to tear myself from it. Charity’s Cross held true to this reader-kidnapping, freezing me in place with the very first sentence: “Charity killed her husband.” From there, I rode the waves of emotion, adventure, romance – even the beauty of grace – with this vivid cast of characters, brought to life under Tyndall’s talented pen.
Elias. *fans face* Oh, how can you not fall for Elias? The gallant pirate turned preacher. Heroic rescuer of lives. Faithful servant of the One who rescues hearts and souls. Dashing. Handsome. Sweet. Still a hint of the rogue behind his twinkling eyes. Whew. I need my fan again. Plus, he descends from characters that Tyndall’s fans will recognize from her LEGACY OF THE KING’S PIRATES series. Lots of nods to that series as this particular story progressed, which always delights me as a reader.
Charity. My heart broke for her and at the same time soared with admiration for her. She is strength and fragility all wrapped up in one wounded, frightened, brave woman. Her struggles to trust both Elias and God took Charity’s Cross from a mere romance (albeit, a breath-stealing one) to something far deeper. A story of honest questions, of difficult answers, of small steps toward healing. I applaud MaryLu Tyndall for addressing topics like horrific domestic abuse and miscarriage without offering trite answers. The last few chapters are powerful and redemptive and are not to be missed!
Bottom Line: Charity’s Cross is full of adventure, love, and faith – in all the best possible ways! Flawed but deep characters sail across the pages and into your heart, and the tender glimpse into God’s presence with the broken is sure to resonate in your soul. Longtime readers of MaryLu Tyndall’s books will also enjoy this fourth installment in the CHARLES TOWNE BELLES series thanks to the mention of characters from several of her previous books, including a glimpse of the other three Westcott sisters. But I highly recommend Charity’s Cross, even if you’ve never read another book by this author. Tyndall’s skilled way with words is always a treat to read!

Classic MaryLu!
I am so in love with MaryLu Tyndall's books, especially her pirate series, and I've yet to be disappointed by her writing. She has taken me on adventure after adventure, causing me to sigh, cry, grimace and Praise God.
I love it when books touch my soul....books that take me back to a time, place and characters that I have loved and missed. If you have read MaryLu's books, namely her pirate series, this is going to please you to no end. If you are a first time reader of her books, once you read Charity's Cross, you will want to grab MaryLu's Charles Towne Belle and Legacy of the King's Pirates series, to read about all of the adventures that you have missed out on.
Charity's Cross is about the 4th sister, Charity, from the Charles Towne Belle series....she's rarely mentioned, but mentioned enough to want to know her story. And FINALLY, MaryLu has penned Charity's story. And let me tell you.....NO, I won't go into any details, for I truly hate spoilers in reviews. I will say, however, that this story tells of God's forgiveness and reminds us that we need to always put God's will ahead of our own. Ignoring His voice can have some serious repercussions in our lives....as Charity drastically discovers. Do you ever find yourself blaming someone else or yourself for bad things that happen in your life? Do you blame God? While enjoying this wonderful tale, you will be reminded of the truth that no matter where you find yourself in life, no matter how desperate things seems....God will use your suffering for good. It will all work out in the end.....just trust in Him.
Along with a wonderful message of trust, Charity's Cross will provide...Adventure on the high seas! Danger! Love! Oh, and PIRATES!
I highly recommend this book, especially to those who have waited.....and waited.....for Charity's story to be told.

Non-stop action. Epic setting. Dynamic characters. This book reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean, but with a spiritual thread and a damaged main character. The abuse Charity endured at the hands of her husband completely demolishes her faith and trust in men. Elias demonstrates over and over his kindness and goodness, and it was frustrating how blind she was to his character. I loved that his protectiveness took priority over everything, including his attraction to her. She has a strength and tenacity, even in her desperation, that draws him to her despite her repeated rejection. I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure of this book... even with Charity's overuse of the exclamation "Vapors!" ;)

Once again, author MaryLu Tyndall takes the reader off on a turbulent, exhilarating seafaring journey—from the perils of frothy, turquoise waters filled with swashbuckling pirates and a dangerous jungle replete with exotic birds, foliage, and uncivilized natives—to the beauties of the Caribbean with its warm breezes, swaying palms, sugar cane, and tropical fruits of the West Indies.

And ooh, the romantic tension is sure to cause your heart to skip a beat or two! The author compassionately deals with the heartbreaking subject of spousal abuse and conveys a strong message of salvation and redemption without being "preachy." Full of surprises and as many twists and turns as a treasure map, best get yer sea legs on, mateys—ye are about to embark upon a journey ye won't soon forget!

What a beautiful well written novel MaryLu Tyndall has written, “Charity’s Cross”! I do not know where to begin describing how detailed or what events took place. Throughout the whole novel I was always wondering what was going to happen to Charity Westcott, whether her husband’s brother was going to capture her all the way to if she would ever find a way back home to Charles Towne with getting help from Elias Dutton. I really enjoyed where Charity and Elias go throughout their journey where telling the truth and trusting in God plays out. Will Charity ever tell the truth to Elias? Will Charity ever trust and believe in God for what He has planned for her? On a last note, I really enjoyed how MaryLu Tyndall pulled characters and background history from “Legacy of the King’s Pirate” series into “Charity’s Cross”! A wonderful historical inspirational romance novel to read, makes me want to read all over again.

This book is the conclusion to the Charles Towne Belles series and it wraps it up with a bang. We finally meet the eldest sister Charity, and from the first page you get to experience the horror that is her life. This book really dives into the idea of "how can God let bad things happen to innocent people, including his children"
I think this book is a good look at the horrors of physical and emotional abuse.
Of the three books, I think this one is my second favorite.

Charity Cross kills her abusive husband on page one of this novel. She spends the rest of the novel running away from the law. She hates God and she hates men. Thank goodness the preacher/pirate is a gorgeous hunk who restores her faith in both.

This was the first time I had read this author of Christian Fiction. I liked it, but felt Charity took forever to believe in her protector. He went way out of the way to keep saving her from bad judgements, and personal risk. It did wrap up nicely though, and the more the story unfolded, one could see why she felt God had stopped listening to her. It dealt with spousal abuse, in the worst way. It is awful to go through this today. But in Charity's day, wives were just property, and very few listened to their plight, or interfered, even the local clergy. Her husband being titled would have even given him more power. Clean love story.

Excellent? Outstanding? Captivating? I simply can’t find one word to describe what I felt when I finished reading MaryLu Tyndall’s latest book, Charity’s Cross. I knew I would love it because it was set on the seas of the Caribbean and told the story of an ex-pirate turned preacher and a lady who was accused of, well, who actually did, commit murder. How would MaryLu handle such an interesting situation? You’ll have to read the book to find out, but I want to go ahead and tell you what I loved most about Charity’s Cross!
The first thing that caught my attention when beginning this book was how it continued the story of so many of MaryLu’s other characters. It could easily be the fourth book in Tyndall’s “Charles Towne Belle” series and even a spin off from her “Legacy of the King’s Pirate” series as well. How? In “Charles Towne Belle” there was a fourth sister who stayed back in England, married to an abusive husband. That young lady, Charity Westcott Gregson or Lady Villemont, is our heroine in Charity’s Cross. If you read “The Reckoning” when it was released in 2015, you will meet Morgan and Rowan Dutton’s son, Elias, in this tale as well. That connection puts Charity’s Cross in a unique position – it bridges two series together in a way I will never forget. In fact, it fits both series’ so well it could be the fourth book in “Charles Towne Belle” and the sixth book in “Legacy of the King’s Pirates.” If you, like me, moan when your favorite series ends and you don’t know what will happen to the characters you fell in love with…well, one could keep themselves pretty happy if they read all nine of these books together. ;-)
The second thing I loved about this book was how the characters were so different from MaryLu’s other stories. The author is not one to repeat themes and situations in her books, but Charity’s story was so “fresh!” The plot of a pregnant murderess, a brother-in-law bent on seeing her hang and a preacher determined to protect (and maybe marry) her had me hooked from the first page. I was never bored and the ending had me sighing in satisfaction. It’s funny when, just a few chapters before the close you can be mentally screaming one thing and then completely change your mind when you see how the author ends the story. Ah!
This brings me to the next topic, when Tyndall writes a book, the love and redemption of God shines from every page. Elias’s ship – The Restoration – hints at the spiritual theme hidden within the pages. Both Charity and Elias had problems they had to deal with in their life in order for them to be completely restored to the Lord. Elias had to forgive himself for the past (you’ll just have to read the book to find out what that means!) and Charity had to realize she was blaming God for decisions she made, even when He tried to rescue her from them later on. I think that both of those things are struggles many people deal with today on a daily basis; the solution given in this book is Biblical council that can be trusted and applied to anyone’s life. Yet, don’t think that the text is “preachy” or boring – trust me, it isn’t! MaryLu had me laughing and giggling with every chapter. Her humor is great, and most importantly, clean!
Charity’s Cross has everything you want in a Historical Romance Novel – wit, a strong spiritual theme, dangerous plot, love and situations you’ll be staying up extra late to see how the character’s get out of. If you want something exciting, entertaining, but points you to the Lord in the end – read this book!

Boarding Elias' ship, Charity is promised transportation home, however, Elias must first stop off in Barbados to help his sister who is in danger. Storms, a shipwreck, deceitful plots, and pirates complicate their journey - yet the secrets Charity and Elias each hold create the most danger of all to each of them.
The realism of the characters, adventure, and suspense in "Charity's Cross" held me in it's grip, the romance was beautiful, the spiritual theme inspiring. An exquisite story of hope, forgiveness, and redemption from MaryLu Tyndall, and one I feel is her best yet!!

MaryLu Tyndall continues to amaze me with every book she writes. I always wonder how she’ll top the last book, and yet, somehow, she manages to do it every time. “Charity’s Cross” is no exception.
The fourth book in the “Charles Towne Belles” series, this is the story of Charity Wescott, the eldest of the Wescott sisters. If there’s one thing that Charity has learned, it’s that men can’t be trusted. Especially the handsome Elias Dutton. When Elias continuously tries to keep her safe, she realizes she can’t trust her traitorous heart either. Only she doesn’t want to be beholden to any man, including Elias.
“Charity’s Cross” comes packed with a redemptive message and is filled with danger, adventure, and of course romance. Ms. Tyndall also tucked a little surprise in the story which was sheer delight for this reader. Definitely another winner!

Once again Marylu Tyndall has delivered a story full of adventure, romance, and most importantly God's truths. I loved Charity and Elias and that ending was just perfect! <3
If you have read her Legacy of the King's Pirates then you will probably enjoy the tie-ins in this story. I have not read them, but I'm looking forward to checking them out very soon!

Ever a fan of Tyndall’s. This book could have used some proofreading but the ending ties the series together in a satisfying way.

I had not read the other books in this series when I got my copy of Charity’s Cross, but the story grabbed my attention from the beginning and wouldn’t let me go until I arrived safely at the end. Charity is not your typical woman and finds herself in a precarious situation of shooting her abusive husband and then running for her life afterwards. I never once thought she was guilty, but I also knew she couldn’t run forever. Would her past catch up with her or would she be exonerated?
Charity’s lady’s maid, Sophie, follows her on the run and does what she can to help. Really loved her character in this story, true loyalty and friendship in that one.
Charity does manage to escape, but eventually finds herself in the care of Elias Dutton. Despite making the decision to loathe him on sight, she continues to rely on him rescuing her several times as she TRIES to figure out how to get back to her family in Charles Towne. Charity DOES NOT allow the story to slow down as she gets herself into trouble more than once and even lands in jail! She has decided to hate all men, hate God, and distrust everyone around her……there’s only ONE thing that keeps her going and it gives her the courage to do crazy escapes.
There were a few times I wish Charity had been less obstinate and more cooperative, but then again she has been through a horrific ordeal and everything she felt was authentic (the nightmares were so well written and well done). Also, the courage and determination she shows on pirate ships is really impressive. And just when you think she has truly hardened herself after the abuse she has endured, she does something amazing for someone else showing a remarkably beautiful heart.
Elias Dutton is not what he seems either, he really is a hero and a gentleman. However, just like Charity, he has secrets as well. He did NOT expect to cross paths with Charity and no matter how angrily she treats him, he can’t leave her alone.
There are three miracles that occur in this story that stunned me and only made me love the story more, truly amazing!
My other favorite part of this story is the family relations of Elias Dutton that are characters from other stories I have enjoyed from previous Tyndall books. So well done and a fine enhancement to this already beloved story.
Charity not only escapes the alleged murder of her husband, but every part of her dangerous adventure brings her closer to redemption and realizing her need for Christ. This story is FILLED with pirates, battles, survival, treachery, learning to let go, healing, romance, forgiveness and friendship (both for Charity AND for Elias). Despite the harshness Charity goes through from her husband, there is such sweetness she experiences with Elias under stressful situations and I truly admired the courage shown from both characters.
Charity’s Cross can be considered a standalone if you haven’t read the previous books like me, is impossible to put down once started, and despite lots of crazy situations is utterly enjoyable and touching throughout with some GREAT dialogue between Charity and Elias. I really loved this book from beginning to end, DEFINITELY a winner from master storyteller Tyndall!!

I had this book "Charity's Cross" by MaryLu Tyndall to read and I started looking at the description and thought "Oh great, a book about pirates, how can it be a Christian book and besides that I know I am not going to like it but because I committed myself to read and review this book I will have to read it. First, through I had to read the other three books in this series (Charles Towne Belles) because I just have to read books that are in a series in order,(these books don't have to be read in order as they can be standalones and you don't have to read the other three at all in order to enjoy and understand "Charity's Cross.) but my preferences being what they are I brought the other three books in the series and I have to say I am really glad I did. Here are some of my facebook post about the first books in this series. "The Red Siren" by MaryLu Tyndall was GREAT. NEVER THOUGH I WILL BE SAYING THAT ABOUT A BOOK ABOUT PIRATES. YES, GOD MESSAGE WAS SHOWN IN THE STORYLINE. All I can say is become a reviewer and you just might find yourself liking genres you thought you wouldn't. "The Red Siren" is probably my favorite of the series.Just goes to show you are never too old to change and broaden your horizons.
So, I have read all four books in this series and I have even sent a message to MaryLu Tyndall asking if there were going to be anymore stories about these four sisters and their pirates. In "The Red Siren" one of the sisters was a pirate herself. I really think "Charity's Cross" has more of an impact of spiritual matters than the other three. "Charity"s Cross" is a great book but it has scenes that are tear jerking!"

As long as you are His child and sincere in your prayer, He hears and answers.” “Then I must not be His child.” “If you’ve received the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, on your behalf, then you are His child. He adopted you in His family.”
“God? What had He to do with any of it?” he said softly. “’ Twas completely a consequence of my own actions that led to the disaster. Why are people always so quick to blame God for every mishap?” “Because He has the power to protect us and to change things if He wants. Isn’t that what your precious Bible says?” “Indeed, God is all powerful, but He gave us free will to make our own choices, good or bad. Suffering the repercussions of our bad decisions is simply part of that.”
This book has scenes that deal with spousal abuse and guns. I know some readers do not like to read about these things and I read to escape reality but at the same time I want my reading to feel somewhat real and not always in a fantasy world, though sometimes I want that but these books take you into an adventure and show the reader that no matter what our circumstances are God hasn't let us down.
If you want to experience Sorrow, Joy and disbelief and faith in a new way, I urge you to read "Charity"s Cross" by MaryLu Tyndall. I can honestly say I am glad I was introduce to these "Charles Towne Belles".
Oh, I just have to say the title fits the story well.

Charity's Cross by MaryLu Tyndall is book number four in the Charles Towne Belles series but can be read as a stand-alone as I had not previously read anything by MaryLu Tyndall. It is a Christian historical romantic adventure full of swash buckling pirates and preachers and maidens in need of rescuing.
One of the main themes is that of trusting God. Charity used to trust God but life to her, seemed to show that God was untrustworthy. "She had assumed God had abandoned her years ago." Charity feels alone and trusts no-one. She feels that she can only rely on herself, but she is wrong. God is the One she needs to lean on, she just needs to open her eyes and realise that, as she is told "All you can do is follow God the best you can an' trust He loves you." Will these words ever impact Charity?
Tied in to trust, is that of prayer. Charity has prayed to God but He seems silent. She doesn't recognise His hand in her life. Now she doesn't pray. "'We will pray for him'... 'I don't pray.' 'It doesn't matter.'" God always answers prayers, just not always in the way we expect Him too. I am sure we can all empathise with Charity. God hears all our prayers, even the prayers we utter but don't believe in ourselves.
The blame game is another theme within the novel. "Wasn't it human nature to want to blame some-one for life's tragedies?" We all want some-one to blame when life is tough. We blame each other. We blame God. We blame ourselves. The blame game solves nothing but can ruin lives as we look backwards into the past with the potential to become bitter and twisted.
God can use our lives to help others if we only let Him. Preacher Elias says "the world is my church." God can take us and use us right where we are. The church is so much more than just a building.
Charity's Cross shows the very clear difference between the man who has religion and the one who knows God. Going to church, quoting scripture and saying elaborate prayers does not make one a Christian. This reminds the reader of the Pharisees who liked to make a big show of their religious practices. The man who really knows God, lives a life for God which is evident for all to see.
The novel demonstrates how the sins of the fathers can continue to the next generation. MaryLu Tyndall sensitively deals with the topic of abuse, both physically and mentally. "He'd denied her nothing, save love, happiness and safety." It can make for hard reading at times. Particularly poignant was the portrayal of how one escapes in one's mind while the abuse is happening.
God is in the business of restoration. The novel shows numerous accounts of lives transformed. "God is in the business of not only forgiveness but restoration." Anyone can have a new start with God.
Overall the novel is a good old fashioned adventure with a dashing hero, a helpless maiden and a good dose of God. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my first novel by MaryLu Tyndall but now I want to read more, including the first three in the series.

Ahoy! When you think of pirates? Who comes to mind? Maybe Captain Hook from Peter Pan, or is it Once Upon a Time TV series, or Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise? Whoever it is, I can assure you, they are no where near swoon-worthy or simply worthy enough to be the hero in MaryLu Tyndall's Charity's Cross as Elias Dutton, pirate turned preacher is.
Elias bears his own guilt from his past, and how it affected his family. As he journeys back to Barbados to help one of his sisters, he rescues Charity Westcott, a woman with a tough exterior and spark that rivals any pirate. Yet, beyond that tough facade, Elias sees a certain frailty and pain that only our Almighty Father can heal, if only she lets Him.
"Thank God, He is in the business of not only forgiveness but restoration." (84)
Charity's experience and lack of judgement with men in the past have caused her not only her independence, but a life that is most dear to her. This is my first MaryLu novel, and it won't be my last. With fast-paced action, unforgettable romance, and the bond of comrades, as well as redemption of past mistakes, readers are in for a ride as Charity and Elias travels the seas to reach not only Barbados, but towards each other's hearts. MaryLu tackled not only the issues of the heart romantically, but emotional and spiritual turmoil as well. Alcoholism, domestic abuse, the end of pregnancies and greed were all touched upon with honesty and grace as redemption made its presence. A great story on discerning and accepting God's will and be the tool to further His plans had me from the start, "Charity killed her husband." How will God use that? You'll just have to read and see.

After enduring a horribly abusive marriage, Lady Charity Villemont nee Westcott is now being pursued across the Atlantic by her brother-in-law as her husband’s murderer. After several close calls, she ends up jumping into the sea at a port to avoid capture, and her struggles in the water draw the attention of preacher-sailor Elias Dutton.
Unable to resist rescuing a maiden in distress, Elias dives into the water and swims Charity to safety, which only begins an ongoing struggle between the two as she seeks to be independent and lands herself into trouble, and he jumps in to saver her, only to be rebuffed as she tries to keep him at a distance.
Elias’ primary concern, though, is to reach his sister whose plantation is in danger. When he learns Charity also longs to be reunited with her family, he finds his attraction to her grow. Charity on the other hand is not willing to put herself into another dangerous situation with a man, so she battles her own feelings for him even as he tries to help her home.
As the pair begin to let down their guard, lies, secrets, dangers, and Charity’s brother-in-law threaten to separate them forever. Soon their only hope is faith in God and acceptance of and repentance for their past sins. Still, change can be difficult, and Elias clings to his own guilt even as Charity rails at God for her suffering. In the end, will they be able to lay the blame where it belongs and accept God’s forgiveness and his will?
Note: This story is technically a continuation of the Charles Towne Belle series because it tells the story of the fourth Westcott sister, and there are also strong connections to the Legacy of the Pirates series as well. However, this does not detract from this novel’s ability to be read and enjoyed on its own. Still, you might find yourself wanting to read the others! And for those readers who have read MaryLu Tyndall’s other books, the connections are very fun to read, and there is one pleasurable scene full of familiar faces ;)

I have read all MaryLu Tyndall's books and loved them. She always includes such a strong dose of spirituality and sometimes spiritual warfare, which I love and applaud her for doing so.
She writes a mean pirate tale, too. This one is an addition to her Charlestowne Belles series, introducing us to the eldest Wescott daughter, Charity. Charity has married a man despite strong warnings from all her family. She soon learns that everyone was right. Now she must pay the consequences.
We then meet Elias Dutton, son of pirate Rowan Dutton and Juliana, whom we met in The Ransom. Elias is also a preacher when he's not out pirating and privateering.
Oh, but it is good to be back on the open seas with Tyndall. She writes so convincingly that I swear I could feel the salt spray of the sea in my face! Her verbiage is spot on and exciting, too! I was just overcome with joy to be reading another one of her wonderful books!!! Glorious! There is always much excitement in a MaryLu Tyndall book and the reader has a hard time putting the book down. I read it in a day!
There is always a wonderful spiritual theme throughout her books also. We learn here that God has a purpose for our lives and not all the bad things that happen to us are His fault. In fact, none of them are. We would have a much better time of things if we put all decisions in our lives to be a matter of prayer. However, God does indeed redeem our bad decisions and gives us more chances. What a wonderful God we serve! I loved this book so much and really hated for it to end. Now I must wait for another!

Charity's Cross, Volume 4 in the Charles Towne Belles series by MaryLu Tyndall, is another great historical fiction novel that I enjoyed reading. Charity Westcott longs to be free from a husband who beats her, rapes her and makes her feel unwanted. She finally is free when her husband is accidentally shot while they were arguing. Charity, along with her maid, flees out of Portsmouth, England heading to the colonies, only when she arrives her brother-in-law is waiting. She sends her maid off and decides to jump ship.
Elias Dutton, pirate turned preacher is on his way to Barbados to help his sister when he sees a lady dangling from a ship and fall into the ocean. Elias jumps in and helps her only for her to be ungrateful. Elias is smitten with Charity's beauty and only wants to help her. Once Charity is on land she has to figure out a way to escape from her brother-in-law so she sees Elias and pretends he is her husband and so she can escape to Barbados.
Will Elias find out why Charity is trying to get away? Will he be able to forgive her? Will they fall in love?
Charity's Cross is an excellent book, I loved the character's, the suspense, and the story line so much that I couldn't put it down until I was finished. MaryLu has done it again! You will definitely not be disappointed in Charity's Cross. Even though this is book 4 in the series, it can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading the first three books in The Charles Towne Belles series as they are about all the Westcott sisters.

A riveting historical romance!
Even though this book in the fourth one in a series, you don’t have to read the others to thoroughly enjoy this one.
I loved finding out Charity Westcott’s story. She is a wonderfully well-developed character who has faced horrible hardship and tragedy during her marriage to Lord Villemont. Her experience with organized clergy has left her blaming God for all that has befallen her.
Elias Dutton is an incredible character also. He blames himself for another’s accident. He loves the Lord and is focused on helping others and teaching them about God and His love for them.
The action in this story is fantastic. There is an incredible description of a sea battle with pirates. This is one of the signature aspects of MaryLu’s books and I always enjoy reading them.
Both Charity and Elias have a lot that they needed to learn and grow in. It was great to read through their journey as they face up to the fact that there isn’t always a neat and tidy box to check off and say, “this person, or God, is to blame” for this tragedy.
They also had to learn more about trusting God with the difficult things. He is the one that can bring good out of bad. As they were being directed to God by strong, trustworthy friends, I was being reminded of the same things that they were.

Acclaimed author MaryLu Tyndall has once again written a captivating and thrilling page-turning story that readers will not want to put down. Charity’s Cross, book four in the Charles Towne Belle collection, has everything a reader will desire, filled with deceit, terrors, adventure, intrigue, betrayal, storms, pirates, and even romance. Charity Wescott flees her home after being accused of murdering her abusive husband. Now she is on the run from her husband’s brother that wants her to hang for the deed. During her escape, Charity runs into and is assisted by Elias Dutton, a missionary and son of previous and famous pirate Rowan Dutton. Now Elias wants to protect Charity, as well as bet to Barbados and protect his sister. But all is not as it seems. Read this wonderfully written story to find out what happens. Not only has MaryLu written a fascinating story, but readers will fall in love with her fantastic characters. Elias Dutton is a near perfect hero whom you can’t help falling in love with. A preacher/privateer—the son of a reformed pirate—he sails the Caribbean helping anyone he can and sharing God’s love. And yet, he has a few surprising secrets of his own.
Something else I loved about this book is that we got a glimpse of Charity’s sisters, the three heroines in the Charlestown Belles series. Relatives of the hero from some of Tyndall’s other books were also mentioned. It was interesting to see how the families and stories tied together.
Lastly, many readers will relate to the faith messages in Charity’s Cross—that we try to control our own destiny instead of yielding to the incredible plan God’s for us.

I'm reviewing the audio book version of this story (although I did switch back and forth between it and the kindle version occasionally). The narration was wonderful and was beautifully read!
Charity's Cross was quite the action packed adventure! I really felt for poor Charity and all of the abuse she endured. I also was pretty frustrated with her for the first half of the book. Because of the abuse she suffered, both physically and emotionally, she did not trust any men and had no faith in God, whatsoever. I felt for her in that, however, she made some silly choices that put her in danger I began listening to this story last year, yet I had to set the book aside for a long while before I was ready to pick it up again.
However, once I began listening to Charity and Elias' story a few days ago, I coudn't get enough! I guess I just needed to jump back into it at the right time. Elias was a great hero! And the two of them together had such chemistry.
This really is a beautiful story. Charity learns and grows so much by the end and her faith is solid and sure. It was beautiful to read about how she was able to finally see God's hand protecting her and helping her in certain situations.

Wow! MaryLu Tyndall has done it again. She has created characters that you love to love and certainly those you love to hate. The choices one makes in their life can affect many things or even everything. Such is where we find our heroine, Charity. Afraid of being left a spinster, she marries the wrong man. Probably not her first bad choice, but certainly one that affects the rest of her life. After repeated abuse, she finds herself in the unfortunate position of being suspected of murdering this husband. Her second choice lead her to ship and the rest of the story. The author is known for her love of the sea and all things pirate. This book does not disappoint. Her attention to detail is obvious and allows you, the reader, to feel the rocking of the ship and the terror of a gale. Charity's last choice in the story leads to redemption for herself and for those around her. Don't miss this story that is hard to put down until finished!

Charity’s Cross is book four in the Charles Towne Belles series and it’s just as fabulous as the others! MaryLu is absolutely one of my favorite authors. Her books were some of the first I started reading in the Christian Fiction genre. Her stories are always fun stories full of pirates, passion and faith.
The book starts out saying, “Charity killed her husband.” and so began an adventurous story. As she is on the run after killing her husband in self defense, she meets a preacher named Elias. They travel together, under a set of strange circumstances, causing love to bloom. When he learns of her past, what will he do?
Always full of hard issues, deep faith and heart-stopping action. I love this author and her love for God. It spills over into her books in such a special way!! I highly recommend you picking up a copy!

A broken woman with a troubled past
A preacher who is not who seems
and adventures that might just draw these unlikely two together
Charity's Cross is a well written book like all of the Christian romance greats we love.MaryLu Tyndall has out done herself again with her new book Charity's Cross which crosses two of her greatest book series in my opinion the Legacy of the Kings Pirates and the Charles Towne Belles series.Charity's Cross can be read as stand alone you just might not get some of the references in the book.Over all it was a fantastic read I definitely would recommend it to anyone who loves Christian romance,adventure and historical fiction.
