After Reece, Ryder, and Blaise rescued me from the channels, I thought my imprisoned fate had changed. But during our journey back to the station, we’re captured by the Forsaken.

The Forsaken are known for killing their prisoners, but a fate much worse than death is waiting for us at their camp. If we want to survive, we’ll have to find a way to escape.

But the leader of the Forsaken won’t let me out of her sight. She’s convinced I’m a hybrid and is determined to prove it by forcing me to take a test. A test I’m not sure I can pass.

Once again, Jessica Sorensen surprised me in such a good way. She never fails to deliver unputdownable stories. 'Forsaken' is the second installment in her 'Broken City' series and picks up right where the first installment ended, so it must be read after 'Nameless'. This second book in the series is as intriguing as the first, well written and once again Jessica portrayed the whole dystopian world in a very vivid way, keeping me at the edge of my seat from start to finish.

In the first installment in the series we were introduced to Allura, the heroine of this series and the three boys who rescued her from the channels. Allura had been free for almost a week now, discovering more about herself and about the ‘new world’ than she ever thought was possible.

“Allura, a voice purrs, I may not be able to get to you, but I know someone who can.”

Everything is good for our heroine, until she’s captured by the Forsaken. The Forsaken are different to say the least than the other people Allura met so far. Their leader realizes Allura is a Nameless and also that she is somehow different from anyone out there.

Allura and also Reece, Ryder and Blaise are in danger and now they have to find out a way to stay alive and also to escape. Our heroine still remembers a different world and different people. Unfortunately for all of them her memories aren’t helping at all. She finds our more about this new world, about who Deorum are and also about Hybrids.

“I’m not just a Nameless. I have evil blood inside me, pumping my heart, keeping me alive.”

Like I mentioned above, this second installment was as exciting as the first. I have to say the concept of the story is fascinating as hell. The pace of the story was perfect for this kind of read IMO and the story-line was interesting to say the least. The plot was well developed and like the previous installment are a couple of turns and revelations and also some action and suspense that kept me glued to the pages.

The terrific, well developed characters were all intriguing in their own way. Allura was again a likeable heroine in this second book. She’s stronger, braver and well portrayed from start to finish and the three boys are fantastic here. They were so sweet and caring with Allura and their protectiveness was so endearing. Again, the romantic aspect was not as developed as I would have liked. Maybe in the next installment? I can only hope.

Overall, this was a great addition to the series and I’m looking forward to read the next book!

”I don’t want to be a monster.”

description

This book does with a cliffhanger. I’m still waiting on information as an approximate release date for the next book in the series Oblivion (Broken City, #3). What I did find out so far is that there is approximately going to be five books in this series but more if story deems.

This book directly follows book one of the series as Allura is on her way to the Broken City with the guidance of her rescue hottie team, Reece, Blaise and Ryder.

”You go against everything I know about the Nameless. The way you act, the way you interact, how well you adapt. You’re an anomaly.”

The story is just as exciting and the world building spot on as they face the danger that the title shares with us by being taken by the Forsaken. The Forsaken quickly realize that Allura isn’t a typical Nameless and the group finds themselves in trouble. While Allura’s memories of things and days past doesn’t seem to help her figure out what she is or where she has come from…

”How many times is this going to happen? How many things do I remember that no longer exist? Will ever revelation be disappointing?”

The story is simply fascinating. The trio all seem to be romantically interested in her and there is even one kiss shared. Bonds are formed to each of these three men one who is still in the lead to me for the heroine’s heart. A lot of important information is given in this book while we learn more about: the Deorum, Forsaken, Humans, Wardens, Hybrids and Grim. Just where does Allura fall in these groupings or does?

”The last thing this world needs is another strange, unknown creature wandering around. It’s what started this whole mess. A single creature that selfishly dropped from the sky and brought an army of Grim with them. Just one creature started the destruction of mankind.”

Jessica Sorensen doesn’t let readers down with this second installment in the series as she keeps the pace, the excitement, and interesting world building all going at once. My only complaint if any would be the length of the story. However, the content remains completely addicting and places out like a movie leaving me always wanting more!

RATING: 3.5 Hearts! :)

Forsaken is a thrilling second installment in the Broken City series, giving us a once broken and now determined to live heroine and three heroes with varying personalities who easily win over our hearts.

Picking up right where book one left off, we’re thrown back into the dangerous journey to Leviter Station alongside Allura, Blaise, Reece and Ryder with the addition of a bump in the road—the Forsaken. Allura is even more driven to find out what her memories mean and who she is after the Forsaken discover her to be more than a mere Nameless. Despite her confusion and insecurities, she learns to hold her own and not rely on the guys to solve her every problem, whether in her head or in the physical world. The highlight of this story is the way Ms. Sorenson develops the bond each of the men have with Allura. Although the romance remains on the periphery, the slow burn is enough to keep us waiting with bated breath to see the reigning champion of her heart.

“You go against everything I know about the Nameless. The way you act, the way you interact, how well you adapt. You’re an anomaly.”

The only problem with this story arises in the final few chapters, new information about the Grim and Wardens divulged, but not utilized leaving us with another abrupt and frustrating cliffhanger. That being said however, the frustration is minor compared to the anticipation of what else is in store for our outstanding characters in the next book.

Overall, Forsaken is a quick and enormously fun read, the riveting action scenes and mystery surrounding Allura ensuring we can’t turn the pages fast enough, while the pinch of angst that comes with three potential love interests incites an immediate desire to pick up the next book.

Before I go any further I still wanna read the next book in this series and Oblivion needs to hurry up and release. (No clue on expected release date)

However, what often happens in a trilogy is the middle book is a "filler" book and that's just what this is. I didn't really find out a whole lot of new information in this one and it was quite short. It seems to be quite a bit of vagueness on answering many questions.

There was a lot of Allura asking them to tell me and one of the guys always hesitating to answer her question.

Allura is scared and Reece, Ryder, and Blaise are hell-bent on protecting her. This book involved quite a bit of Allura getting reassured by the three who all are somehow infatuated with her.

I'm still trying to figure out which one she will wind up with. Maybe she's like Snow White and Reece and Ryder are her two dwarves and Blaise is her prince charming?

Anyways, it still has potential and I still want to know what happens!

Normally, I'm one of the one's who moan and groan about shorts but I'm trying this new out look... and that is... I'm trying to think that the author is trying to give us a glimpse of the story as it unfolds during the writing process. Which helps the first five minutes after reading. Then I realize that I still have to wait for the next installment. However, I'm loving this new side to Sorensen. She is doing a fabulous job keeping me interested. Can't wait for book three to drop!!!

I enjoyed the next installment of this series. I like the storyline, love the characters, and it was written well. Just like the first book, this one also played out like a movie. I could envision all of it. I was left with more questions than answers by the end and I cannot wait to get ahold of the next in this series! I'm itching to see how this all ends.

What can I say??? Jessica continues to suck us deeper and deeper into this awesome world!

Forsaken is a continuation of Nameless and the flow is perfect. Allura is still being guided to the Broken City by her handsome trio.

"I'm coming back for you. Just you wait. One day, you'll belong to me and me only."

However - there are more things given to us in this book. We aren't exactly given any answers to our questions (if anything, we have more) but Jessica has added even more interesting tidbits into the whole plot. We learn about the Forsaken, the Deorum, Hybrids, Grim and how everything sort of intertwines or came about. It's quite fascinating.

”The last thing this world needs is another strange, unknown creature wandering around. It’s what started this whole mess. A single creature that selfishly dropped from the sky and brought an army of Grim with them. Just one creature started the destruction of mankind.”

But we are still left with the BIG question - who and what is Allura. No one seems to know and her memories aren't helping her at all. We even see how the guys who are guiding her are starting to feel more for her in different ways. I am still holding out hope for one of them!!

”You go against everything I know about the Nameless. The way you act, the way you interact, how well you adapt. You’re an anomaly.”

Jessica continues to build this extremely unique world and keeping the pace. There is no drop in excitement or thrills. I can't wait for the next installment!

It is not often that I find a book that begs me to sit down and review it, however, this book deserves it. I know that this book is aimed somewhat at the YA readers, but I promise you that this is a book for every age-group. I am so beyond hooked on the Broken City series and I LOVE that we keep getting them earlier than expected! These characters are impossible not to fall in love with. It's a little hard to connect with them because you still do not know much about them all, yet you desperately want that connection. I cannot even pick a favorite character because they are all so incredibly in different ways!
Full disclosure, I almost always find two characters I want to end up together instantly....well, not with this book and if it wasn't a YA book, I would be cheering for ALL of them to end up together. Oops.

First, you have Allura, who has been put in the worst situations and still a total badass! She shows vulnerabilities often, while still being a character that is so strong...I love how much she cares about not only the boys, but everyone around her. She is selfless in a way that only makes her stronger. My heart broke for her reliving her memories, my face hurt from smiling at her interacting with the boys, and I cried for the girl that is so worried about hurting other people.
"I don't want to be a monster."
Blaise, where do I even begin? I was rooting for him from the second he was introduced.. I love how he obviously cares for Allura, yet still has his own vulnerabilities. He's so serious and always thinking, it makes me giggle sometimes. His strength and determination to protect the boys and even Allura, it's very swoon-worthy.
"A slow breath eases from his lips. Then he threads his fingers through mine and pulls me to his side. I have a feeling the gesture means more than I can even comprehend."
Ryder is a giant goofball and I love how caring he is to Allura. I may have let out a cheer for him while I was reading a very specific part of the story that I'm not going to mention specifically, but I thought it was completely adorable how he handled the situation. I am so hooked on his story line and how brave he is.
"Why?" Blaise cocks a brow at him as he slips the strap of the bag onto his shoulder. "What are you going to do? Take your pants off and give them to her?"
Ryder shrugs, amusement playing on the corner of his lips. "Maybe."
And of course, my little Reece....I NEED more of him. He is so quiet and sweet! Can I tell you guys a secret? I think I'm somehow rooting for him to end up with Allura the most.
"He seems thrown off by what I'm doing, so I decide to pull away, worried touching him is inappropriate. But he captures my hand, brings my palm back to his brow, and moves my finger over his prominent scar."
To sum up this review, I never want this series to end.

The first book in this series really had me wanting more so I was eager to jump into this one. Sadly I was disappointed. Very little of any relevance occurred in this book. It almost seems as if you could read book 1, skip 2, and jump into book 3 without missing much of anything. This book was short and very uneventful. Here's my breakdown:

The pros:
* Offered as a kindleunlimited

The cons:
* Allura, the heroine, seemed really weak in this book - She seemed consumed with self-doubt and insecurities. I get that to an extent considering her history, but it felt like she was having a constant pity party in this read. She was constantly "scared" and the 3 men seemed to have to continually reassure her of everything.
* I'm not digging the whole love triangle thing going on - While nothing sexual or overly romantic has happened, the heroine has 3 men completely devoted and obviously attracted to her - She holds hands with them all, sits in their laps etc. I just want more in the sense of boundaries. Are they all potential love interests? If not, I want those friendship roles established already. I don’t like the idea of her leading on all 3 of them.
* The dialogue and characters felt very juvenile and immature in this read.
* Once again the book just ends during a random moment - So far I am not a fan of the lack of closure when each book ends. It wasn’t even a brutal cliffhanger, you are just reading along and out of nowhere it ends and you get advisement for book 3. That just annoys me more than anything.

I can see this series have potential overall, but this book was lacking in all aspects. Basically all that occurred was the heroine being in constant fear, lots of questions about "what she is" and the 3 men trying to win her affections. Then it just ends. If book 3 were already available I might consider reading it just to see how things play out, but since its not even released yet I doubt I will. It won't be a book I'm eagerly awaiting.

2nd instalment, feels a little like waiting for a new series of your favourite TV Show to start annoying and frustrating, but yet so worth the wait.

The book kicks of right where it left off as we Follow Allura, Blaise, Reece and Ryder on the trail to the Broken City and the Station. I am so intrigued with the characters in this book.

Allura, thinking she's a monster, but as far as I can see she is anything but, always thinking of others before herself and trying to hide who she thinks she is. She is adorable but yet strong and you fall right in to routing for her.
Blaise - strong, blunt and serious, he's a great character and love how he protects both Allura and the other boys. You learn a little more about him this episode.
Ryder, he reminds me of the cocky Jock, but in a good way he's funny and sweet with it. Him and Blaise almost puff their chest out when fighting to protect Allura. There's scenes where you think he's really good for her.
Reece, the quiet and serious almost shy guy around Allura, this episode you see how he feels a little towards her.

We follow them on their journey, we meet the Forsaken, hmmmm they are not great humans at all and dreamland smoke is evil. I am enjoying this and series immensely and wish each episode was a little longer, but love the fact the Jessica keeps surprising us by releasing early. Her writing style as always does not disappoint and looking forward to the 3rd book

Again with the I-I, You-you. Right off the bat, same as the first book.

I am convinced that Allura cannot help doing stupid things because she is stupid. Maybe airhead is a better term for it. For example:

“It’s not your fault,” Blaise says as we near the bottom. “You’re afraid of heights. I’m not.”

How did he know what I was thinking? Can he read minds?

Because that right there is the logical conclusion any of us would have come up with. He must have figured out that she is afraid of heights because he can read minds. Not the fact that she is clinging to the side of the cliff, shaking, with her eyes squeezed shut, unable to move despite the safety ropes. Nope, it’s gotta be the mind reading.

And so on and on it goes. The heroine, impossible as it might seem, sounds even dumber than she did in the first book. Everyone else remained about the same as they were, and still, to my dismay, no one has reached Leviter Station.

On a positive note, there were some interesting things that happened in this book plot-wise, and the funny thing is, I will probably read the next one because I really must know what Leviter Station is like.

Well, not much happened.

To be honest, a lot happened in this book, but it felt like nothing. We got some cool information about Blaise, so that was alright I guess.
I feel like book one and two should have been combined. That way it would feel like a much more rounded story.

What's going on with this love square? Does everyone have the hots for Allura? Does no one think that their actions (like asking her to sit on their lap a week after her escape) might be a smidge inappropriate?

Not super great, but I'll be waiting for the next book.

Allura is kidnapped again, but this time so are the three guys who have been helping take care of her. The Forsaken have been proven to kill people for no reason, and now they have taken her and think she's a hybrid. The will force her to take a test that she's not sure she will pass.

This book was okay. I was a little annoyed with the things that went on, but it was interesting to pass the time with. And, I really liked Allura and the guys' relationship.

Quick read, very much a guilty pleasure. I shouldn’t enjoy this as much as I do. The protagonist has no personality. But the love interests - *sigh* they’re very protective of her and kind and gentle. Very one-dimensional, but still. I enjoy this.

I’m also curious to see how the author is going to tie everything together and explain things like how Allura is possibly immortal (?) I think there’s a reason the fourth book has been delayed.
