Shifters, Gods, Shaman and paranormal creatures reside amongst the living in Whisper Hollow. Kerris Fellwater carries the mark, and is the spirit shaman. Her job is to drive the dead back to their graves. She is aided by her protector Bryan and assisted by Ellia who plays the song of the dead. While there is an overall arc concerning the scorned gods and the balance against evil, each book seems to deal with a particular threat or two.

Galenorn quickly pulled me back into this world as events take place a few months after those in book one, Autumn Thorns. Peggin, Kerris’s best friend is cursed by the Lady of the Lake and all hell breaks loose as the unliving try to pull her into the lake's murky depths. The case was interesting with plenty of action. I enjoyed how the author weaved town history into this story and then linked it to a mysterious object.

While Peggin’s curse was the central theme, we were treated to additional threads that held my interest. The Hounds of Cu’ Chulainn, the silencing of the screaming tree and Magda and her witch bottles. I loved all the spells and rituals combined with lures and supernatural creatures. This tale screams fall and Galenorn brought Whisper Hollow and the surrounding forest to life.

Secondary characters from those belonging to the secret society to Deev, Peggin’s steampunk boyfriend grab the reader and will have you demanding more details. Deev is unique, and has a strange gift. We learn more about him but these details had me screaming for more. I love Peggin and her retro pin-up girl wardrobe. The Crow Man continues to delight me with his tongue twisters and the story of the Unliving Queen Veronica was creeptastic and sorrowful. This scene truly highlights this author’s vivid imagination and gave me goosebumps. She adds a sense of realness to these twisted lores and for this reader it’s addictive.

The romance between Bryan and Kerris continues to grow and felt genuine. We gained a little more knowledge about Bryan and his family’s role. I would like to see him take a more centered role in addition to being her protector.

I was really happy with Shadow Silence. I felt that Galenorn finally served up a lot of development in the areas she was lacking the first time around but so far both books in the Whisper Hollow series have been absolutely fantastic.

I must admit though that Shadow Silence has easily become my favorite this time around because Galenorn gives us so much more this time around in every way from relationships, development, background, excitement, romance, the whole package is delivered.

Whisper Hollow and all its craziness has pulled me in and I can't get enough. I am so happy that Galenorn took the time to give readers so much more in detail because it gives you more to love, more to want.

I have to admit I was concerned that Galenorn wouldn't be able to top herself in the first book but I am happy to say that she did.

I can't wait for the next book in the Whisper Hollow series to come out. Things are only getting more exciting and I can't wait to uncover more mysteries and secrets.

I highly recommend the Whisper Hollow series if you haven't read it.

Whisper Hollow:
Where spirits walk among the living,
and the lake never gives up her dead.

This series is only getting better! Shadow Silence was nail-bitting good from the first page until the last one!

So what to expect? I can you give you an idea.

As we know (if you read Autumn Thorns) the town of Whisper Hollow is full of people with abilities and ghosts. If the town wants you, you suddenly found yourself there. If you want to leave it and the town still wants you, you can't get away. You also must remember these rules:

1.If you hear someone call your name from the forest, don’t answer.
2.Never interrupt Ellia when she’s playing to the dead.
3.If you see the Girl in the Window, set your affairs in order.
4.Try not to end up in the hospital.
5.If the Crow Man summons you, follow him.
6.Remember: Sometimes the foul are actually fair.
7.And most important: Don’t drive down by the lake at night.

Kerris Fellwater is a Spirit Shaman. Her job is to make sure the dead remain dead. Although, lately she is learning that her job description is even bigger than she thought.

Kerris has to deal with multiple things happening at the same time. Her best friend Peggin almost becoming the Lady's next victim. But, Peggin is not out of the woods since the Lady has marked her and there is a race to find a way to protect her before the Lady comes calling again. Also, someone has tried to quiet the tree that alerts the town when something evil is coming. The Hounds are still causing trouble. Kerris will need to establish a communication with Veronica. Last but not least she will have to deal with her feelings for Bryan, her protector and lover.

I was excited to read Shadow Silence since I had liked Autumn Thorns. I was intrigued by this new world Yasmine Galenorn had created. There were rules to follow or the Lady of the lake was going to take you.

This second installment has a lot more character development. We get more insight into the world of the dead and Veronica "Queen of the Unliving, Fallen Daughter of the Dark Mother, Watcher from the Land of the Dead". Also, more info in regards to the abilities of the matriarchs and Kerris powers as well.

The romance is also there. Both sets of couples are moving along with their relationships. At some point, I felt some of it was moving too fast but since they live in Whisper Hollow were people don't seem to live long, I gave them a break. Besides, both couples were just perfect together.

I was amazed at the world-building. The attention to detail was fantastic. I was flipping the pages as fast as I could read them and by the end, I was not disappointed. If anything, I really can't wait to read the next one in this series.

This is by far my favorite series by this author.

Cliffhanger: No

Favorite Quote: “We are the children of the gods.”

Welcome to the town of Whisper Hollow. If you’re here, then you were meant to be. My name is Kerris Fellwater. I left Whisper Hollows fifteen years ago but was called back when my grandmother, the town’s spirit shaman passed away. I’m the new spirit shaman and it’s my job to guide the dead to their graves and keep them there.

When my best friend Peggin finds herself cursed, I and the town matriarchs work hard to break the curse while trying to uncover a mystery from the turn of the century. A mystery that our enemies, the Hounds of Cu’ Chulainn, will do anything to keep buried.

But secrets, like the dead, never stay buried for long in Whisper Hollow.

Shadow Silence is the second book in Galenorn’s spooky Whisper Hollows series. This dark urban fantasy series is drenched in magic, mythology, suspense, mystery, and romance. Set in the fictional town of Whisper Falls, Washington, Galenorn picks up where book one-Autumn Thorns- left off. Galenorn builds an intriguing storyline, deepening the characterization of the residents and entities that protect and terrorize the town. A multi-layered mystery is used to further expand the world, connecting it all back to our heroine and her growing powers.

Kerris Fallwater returned home to claim her destiny after running away fifteen years ago. As the town’s new spirit shaman and worshiper of the Goddess Mórrígan, Kerris helps to lay the dead to rest and protect the town from its enemies. She is settling into her grandparent’s home nicely, slowly claiming it as her own as she submerges herself deeper into the town and it’s needs. Her relationship with her guardian/boyfriend, a shape shifter named Brian, is developing at a comfortable if not slightly rapid speed, giving Kerris the love support, and unconditional acceptance she has searched for all her life.

Kerris has a lot on her plate in this installment. While the main focus of the story is on Peggin (Kerris’s best friend) and her fight to free herself from the clutches Lady of Crescent Lake, Kerris is also pulled into a battle with Magna (a powerful worshiper of Cu’ Chulainn) while uncovering some interesting facts concerning the town’s history. The pacing is fast and steady with some action and suspense as Kerris finds herself a mystical go between in the fight to save the town. Various plot threads are created, giving us hints towards future story lines. I like that Galenorn reminds us that no one in this town is exactly as they seem on the surface and slowly skews the information we already know about them into something new to be explored.

While I enjoyed the main plot of the story and the various story lines it births, I found the dry narrative at times overwhelming as Galenorn seeks to open Kerris up more to readers. There is an inordinate amount of time spent on day to day actions that become repetitious as the story progresses. We are repeatedly told in great detail about Kerris’s insecurity towards her breasts, her eating/drinking habits, her bathing routines, and exactly what and how often she feeds her cats. These details became overwhelming and took away from the overall atmosphere of the story, creating times when I felt I was wading through filler to get to the meat of the story. I was also a little out out by the plotline concerning Peggin’s boyfriend Divine and how Galenorn uses it to resolve a minor issue. It felt like a round piece being shoved into a square peg.

The ending is a series of climatic events that firmly resolve the conflicts while allowing plenty of room for the arc to continue to expand. While book one was a bit heavy on world building, this installment lasers it’s focus on the characters and further solidifying their places in the story.

Fans of Yasmine Galenorn and urban fantasy that maintains a steady romantic element while offering readers action, suspense, and mystery on a strong mythological base are sure to enjoy her latest series.

I was so excited to get back to Whisper Hollow after finishing the last book, Autumn Thorns, which was the first installment in the Whisper Hollow Series. It's set in a little sleepy town in the Pacific Northwest, which couldn't be more perfect!

In the first book Kerris Fellwater returns to her hometown of Whisper Hollow to take her place as spirit shaman after being gone for 15 years. She can see the spirits that walk the earth and helps them cross over. In this book, Shadow Silence, there are so many more things that seem to be coming to light in this mysterious town, for one she is learning so much more about her powers as a spirit shaman, she's learning more about the Lady of Crescent Lake, all while trying to figure out how to deal with other possible threats that might come their way.

Through all of that Kerris and Bryan seem to be able to make some time for romance. I love how open and honest Bryan is with Kerris about his feelings and intentions with her. He leaves no room for guessing. At. All! He is exactly the type of guardian and lover she needs! He is soooo perfect! Leather duster and all!

We are getting to know each character so much more. We are seeing their kinks and eccentricities because there are plenty! Not only that, but some characters have transformed and are getting more comfortable in their own skin.

Shadow Silence is fantastically written and I cannot wait to get more of this town, with all of its magical elements, intriguing residents, and scary as hell creatures!

Yasmine Galenorn continues to surprise me with each book of hers I read! I thought the previous book in this series, Autumn Thorns , was great, but Shadow Silence was even better! The world Yasmine has created in this series is so captivating. Each time I learned something new, it only made me want to know more about the world. The fantasy aspect was very intriguing and it was easy to see that Yasmine put a lot of time and effort into fleshing out the fantasy elements, and I loved it.

The characters were as awesome as ever in this book. The main characters grew a lot throughout the story and it was great to see their development. All of the characters are becoming more and more interesting as the books go on. One of my favorite things about the characters is their friendships with each other. Kerris has a great group of friends and I love reading about Kerris working with them to kick butt!

Bryan was so sexy in this book! I always loved it whenever Bryan was in a scene. His romantic relationship with Kerris was great. I think they are so perfect for each other and they make a freaking awesome dynamic duo.

All of the romances in this book were adorable, even if they were a little fast paced at times. I appreciate the fact that the romances were there, but they never took away from the main story arcs. The romance just added to the plot, and I thought that was really refreshing!

I am so excited to get my hands on book three, because I know it will knock my socks off! I would recommend this series to anyone who likes urban fantasy mixed with romance.

This is where the WH Series really gets moving. I was very clear that book one, to me, felt like an introduction to Whisper Hollow more than a book. For those of you who felt the same, this book gets the story moving.

This time around, the plot doesn't rise up and smack you 2/3 of the way into the book - it's present from the start. Deev is a character we can only hope to see more of, and this time, we get to meet a few of the characters who were only hinted at before.

The meta-plot of WH, Hounds versus CMS, continues to advance, though it's not clear if that plot will come to the fore front or if it's just being set up for later.

The good news (and bad news) is that this book is more of the same in the series - no radical shifts. If you liked book one, you're going to like book two. If you didn't like book one because you wanted something to happen, book two may be more your style. If you didn't like book one because you don't really dig the series...probably not your speed.

The disappointing part is the wait for book three.

Shadow Silence is the second book in the 'Whisper Hollow' series by Yasmine Galenorn. I haven't read the first book in the series, but I think I would have understood this book a little more if I had had all the background information from reading it.

This story is about a group of people living in Whisper Hollow. Kerris Fellwater, is a Spirit Shaman, her job is to make sure that the dead stay in their graves, keeping humans safe from them. She found out about her destiny in the first book, and in this book she has to pretty much learn as she goes about what powers she has and how to use them.
Bryan is her boyfriend and a shape-shifter. He is also her guardian and protector.

Peggin is Kerris' best friend and in this book she finds herself losing her rental home. The only way she could afford a new place was to take one of the old houses very close to the lake. Nobody lives there any more. Everybody is too scared because of the Lady in the Lake whose siren call has taken many lives. Peggin is sure she can stay safe, especially with the help of her supernatural friends who can help ward the place.

Unfortunately, before she even had chance to move in properly, the Lady of the Lake called, and while her friends were helping with moving her things in and unpacking, Peggin ends up being dragged into the lake. Thankfully Kerris is alerted to what is happening and she and the others dive into the lake and drag her from the Lady's clutches.

It doesn't end there though, because Peggin has been marked by the Lady. Which means that she is targeted, and through any body of water, she can kill her, even in a bath. Kerris, Bryan, and the members of the Morrigan including Lila, Ivy, and Oriel, have to find a way to remove the Hex.

That in itself is a big enough problem, but at the same time other big problems arise. The evil Hounds of Cu' Chulainn who have feuded with the Morrigan for all time, have something to hide, something linked to Peggin and her new house by the lake. When she moved in and the friends started to investigate the house, the Hounds had to take action.

Add to that, there are other evils, ones who are sending shadow men after humans, men that thanks to a spell of evil are getting too close to the town. Kerris and her team have to find a way to break the spell and keep the town safe.

There is so much going on in this story, there is never a dull moment. There are twists and turns, danger, and the supernatural aspect of the story is absolutely amazing. The authors descriptions of the scenes really put you in the picture so that you could almost see yourself there amongst the group. At times I have to say that a little less description might have been OK too, such as when we were told just who was eating what, and how much of it, or who was wearing what. I little less of that and the book would have been pretty much perfect. Perhaps a little bit more romance would have been good too. But with Kellis, Bryan, Peggin and Dr D already being paired up, I guess a full on romantic story wouldn't have been possible. That said, the book was so full on with various good verses evil plots that something had to take a back seat.

The book started out slow for me, and if I am honest, I nearly gave up reading it. But I persevered and am very glad that I did because the second half of the book really ramped up the exciting action and I couldn't read it quickly enough to find out how it ended.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Shadow Silence features Kerris and the inhabitants of Whisper Hollow. Whisper Hollow is not only the home of magical, mythical characters, but the town itself has a life of it's own.

Kerris's best friend has decided to buy a house perilously close to the lake. This is a dangerous place to live as the Lady of the Lake has been known to take those who venture too close. A lot of scary things happen even before Peggin can get fully moved in. The Lady is hungry and the last place that Peggin should be in near the lake.

Along with solving the problem of Peggin's place to live, there is an evil, historic plague hovering over the city that Kerris and the Crescent Moon Society must settle.

For most of the book I found that there were two different stories going on. The part of Peggin's house and the mysterious happenings (which involved even more than the Lady) gave us a surprise. The Hounds of Cú Chulainn have brought about a cloud of trouble that is threatening to take over the city. I think even Kerris was surprised about the magic the Crescent Moon Society was able to pull together to conquer Magda's threat.

There was a little romance in the book, besides the Kerris and Bryan relationship, which had already been built. We have a new character that Peggin has met, Deev, and he is such an interesting character! He is an artist but he puts quite the touch into his creations. The pair are so cute together. Their characters need some nudging. It kind of reminded me of high school.

There was some good magic with some fast paced action. I didn't feel like there were too many dull moments. They did take time to have their own special holiday celebrations, but they stayed on the case pretty consistently. I did have some surprises, and there were times I was concerned on how some situations were going to work out. One thing that stuck out to me was their eating. Those characters know how to throw back some food! Definitely one of their favorite past times!

Shadow Silence is a book where you definitely need to concentrate to keep track of the characters with their magic and their roles. As with the first book, Autumn Thorns, I found things moved quickly. Focusing on the story sometimes made me lose track of who was who. Especially when it came to who was a member of which group. I enjoyed the ride that Shadow Silence put me on. There were a lot of aspects and characters I will probably need another book to get straight, but it was a lot of fun! This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

**ARC Received from NetGalley for an honest review**

Yasmine Galenorn has been one of the most descriptive writers I’ve ever read. Her magical worlds fall off the page and create such beautiful imagery that I always want to jump right into the story.

For the second book in the Whisper Hollow Series, Shadow Silence, we come back to Kerris Fellwater as a cold winter begins to settle into the town. Everyone knows the towns rules regarding the Lady of the Lake and the victims she claims. But when her best friend, Peggin, is in her clutches, Kerris must do whatever it takes to save her.

Peggin falls under the spell of the Lady and nearly dies multiple times. Kerris is so incredibly intelligent when it comes to putting the puzzle pieces together. A dream that leads to an accident, which then leads to a long dead secret hidden away beneath ANOTHER secret. Peggin was brave in her withstanding to survive the Lady’s curse. And sneaking in the background are the mangy Hounds with whom we may have a major player coming to visit Whisper Hollow soon. CAN’T WAIT!

I absolutely love Kerris Fellwater. I have managed to fall for each character Galenorn has created but Kerris has become my all time favorite. She’s so solidly strong and supportive in her beliefs and values that I find myself wishing to be more like her. The continuing romance between her and her guarding, Bryan was perfectly laid out. How the two discover that they’ve fallen for one another is just beautifully told.

On par with Galenorn and her magnificently terrifying companion: we finally meet Veronica, Queen of the Dead. In what has to be one of THE best sounding introductions EVER. 3 words: THRONE OF BONES. I tend to be wary of these creatures Galenorn’s main characters must partner with and yes Veronica is deadly but I want to see her in all her glory! Hoping there’s more to come with her in the series.

Love love loved getting the chance to review Shadow Silence and can’t wait for more from Yasmine Galenorn in the Whisper Hollow Series!

Until next review…Happy Bingeing Beauties!

Disclaimer: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of Shadow Silence. I did not receive any other compensation for my review.

Shadow Silence is book 2 of the Whisper Hollow series, with a release date of September 27, 2016.

I am a huge fan of this series of Whisper Hollow and the main character, Kerris Fellwater. I enjoyed this book so much, I had to go back and read it a second time. This novel is based in Whisper Hollow, Washington, where the Lady of Lake Crescent pulls people down into the lake to their watery grave, where many spirits roam the streets, and where we find Kerris Fellwater, a beautiful young woman who has taken her birthright as spirit shaman of her town.

In Shadow Silence, we learn more about Kerris' good friends Peggin and Dr. Divine. Kerris finally stirs up enough courage to meet Veronica, Queen of the Unliving. We learn very important secrets about the main characters in this book, so keep a close eye out to detail. Things happen for a reason, isn't that what everyone says? The Lady of Lake Crescent is hungry and Peggin might be the next victim. Can Kerris, Bryan, and Dr. Divine save her from this fate? There are many twists and surprises in this novel, but I must say this is the best one yet. I love the character development and reading Shadow Silence makes me wish, once again, that I lived in Whisper Hollow.

If you loved Autumn Thorns, I highly recommend pre-ordering Shadow Silence and most definitely putting it on your to-read list.

I had the utmost pleasure reading this book first hand as an ARC. As with all my coming reviews, I won't put any major spoilers in. So if that is what you are looking for...it's not here. In the second installment of the Whisper Hollow books, Kerris Fellwater, a Spirit Shaman, is beginning to learn the ropes. A legacy she was born with. This time, there is more danger to her friends, especially Peggin. We finally get to see Veronica in this book and she is one scary thing. Secrets are starting to unravel, but Ms. Galenorn only gives a few pieces away. She seriously has this stick and carrot thing down to an art!

There is more back story on some of the characters and sometimes, what you learn, you wish you hadn't. This new series is wonderful to read and I can't wait for the next one, because there are more questions yet again. If you love her work, this is TOTALLY worth it! Oh and one more thing...you know that type of girl in high school? You know the type, the "Mean Girl"? And you despised her or wasn't part of her clique because you weren't good enough? Yeah, well, sometimes, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Remember that as you voraciously consume this book. You'll fall in love with it, so much.....you'll hear wedding bells. Yasmine Galenorn never fails to create a spectacular world for her readers, with lush backgrounds and multidimensional characters paving the way to a page-turning experience. And this book, Shadow Silence, was complex, heartfelt, and even had a bit of holiday charm mixed in.

I’ve become a true fan of Galenorn’s writing style, especially with how she can build worldscapes that are so intricate that they feel real. And I would expect that’s a challenging feat when writing a fantasy series. I think I was equally impressed with the lively offbeat characters and with the small town of Whisper Hollow itself. This was my first foray into this series as I somehow skipped over book one. But I found it fairly easy to figure out the logistics, although admittedly there were a lot of characters to keep tabs on.

I haven't read book one yet (although I definitely will be doing so) but I could follow along fairly easily with this second installment in the Whisper Hollow series. I think fans of fantasy who enjoy offbeat characters, intricate plots, and lots of magical beasties and rituals will adore Shadow Silence. Full review to come.

Every once in awhile you get lucky and find an author that is amazing. I have been a Galenorn fan for YEARS. Way back when. I never thought i would love a series more than i did the SotM. This series resonates with me. I just get it. These books are not for the faint of heart. When you read these, uou are transported to the town of Whisper Hollow. You can feel the chill in the air, the fog as it envelopes you, you can smell the water from the lake. The town itself is a major character. If it doesn't like you, then it gets rid of you. Best learn the rules as well.

This is the second book in the series and it is just simply amazing. I loved getting to know Kerris better and to see her getting comfortable. I love Peggin and was so happy to get some insight on her and don't get me started on Divine. Omg. I am dying for more info on Deev!!! (I need it now). The relationships between all characters are just simply magical. You seriously need to stop what you are doing and go buy all her books. Like now. Stop. Go buy them. I promise you its worth it.

4.5 stars.

I miss Whisper Hollow already! In this one, Kerris learns a lot about the past of Whisper Hollow, as well as some more of what it means to be a spirit shaman. There were lots of interesting things in this story, including a dagger I can't wait to learn more about. The relationships Kerris has with her guardian and boyfriend Bryan, her best friend Peggin, and all her other newfound friends and family are perfect. The fact that this book revolved around keeping Peggin away from the Lady of the Lake and trying to undo the curse the Lady had put upon her just made these relationships come more to the forefront.

I just love the atmosphere of these books. I was surprised and pleased when I realized this story took place in December, and the holiday season was really nice. My only gripe with the book is that it did drag in places, but these characters feel so much like friends that I could read about them doing nothing all day and be happy. So now I need to read more Yasmine Galenorn. I totally get the love!

I just finished this Arc, that again, I was lucky enough to win. And let me tell you.. OH.. MY... GODS... This book had me on the edge of my seat, I HAD to read the next chapter. And every book introduces a new character. I love Kerris. And believe me, u will too. As she discovers herself, and her abilities. Coming into being the spirit shaman of whisper hollow will never be easy. But she's got quite the band of... I won't say misfits, because whisper hollow seems to be the place where all the lost become found. Shifters in plain sight. A town with a heart... Literally. So many ghosts and I swear... The bestie.. Peggin, I would be her. :) this book absolutely gets 5 stars for me. And I have to wait forever for book 3! And as always, please check out this authors page as well as her blog. She is incredibly talented and her books don't stop at fiction. Have a look. Show some love. And broaden your horizons and feed your imagination with any of her series.

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley for an honest review.

Shadow Silence (Whisper Hollow) is a Masterpiece!! This is the second book in the Whisper Hollow series and it does not dissapoint. Kerris is not happy that her friend Peggin is moving to a house close to the lake. She has had a dream that the Lady of the Lake has claimed her friend when she drowns her in the lake. When Kerris and the rest of the gang help Peggin move, they find Peggin being taken by the Lady. Kerris jumps in and saves her friend. Now, they have a really bug problem on thier hands, because she did save Peggin. The Lady has marked her as her own and will not stop in trying to claim her. Kerris and the rest of the gang now have to find a way to remove

4.5 stars. Really fun though not quite as awesome as book one. More about the creepy lady of the lake but I wasn't super drawn in to how the mystery was presented. I can't get over Peggin's lover being called Dr. Divine but the hints about him at the end are intriguing. Hope there is another book!

Glad that Kerris is adjusting to Whisper Hollow again. Congratulations to her and Bryan for getting engaged. Hope Peggin is okay. Good to learn more about Dr. Divine and wondering what Starlight's powers are.

Can't wait to read more Whisper Hollow novels!!!!

Yasmine kept me up past my bedtime. Again.
Whisper Hollow is a horribly creepy place, in the same ballpark as Silent Hill. It also has a habit of keeping the people it wants within city limits.
Some high points this time around included meeting Veronica, the tragic and sinister queen of the unliving; Peggin's extremely stupid insistence on moving to a subdivision right next to Crescent lake and the ravenous Lady; more background on the Shadow Men and a possible way to halt their attacks; Deev's bizarre secret; some Crescent Society drama and some angry ghost antics.
We also get to learn a little about the Lady's possible history and nature, while Kerris and the crew uncover even more secrets about Whisper Hollow's horrific past. Seriously, doesn't anything good ever make the local news headlines?

More like 2.5 stars.
The world is still interesting but the pace dropped off and all of a sudden, rather than conversing like she is in her 30s Kerris has started talking like she is in her late teens, not making her relatable at all. I put it down to the dialogue and repetition of thoughts. I just didn't find Kerris or Peggin all that likeable this time around. Deev's mysterious revelation brings the ending back nicely though.

Shadow Silence
Whisper Hollow, Book #2
By Yasmine Galenorn

Author Website: Galenorn.com
Brought to you by OBS Reviewer Daniele

Synopsis:

New York Times bestselling author Yasmine Galenorn invites readers to Whisper Hollow, where spirits walk among the living and the lake never gives up her dead…

Fifteen years ago, I ran away from Whisper Hollow, Washington, a small town on Crescent Lake in the Olympic Peninsula. But truth is, if you were born here, you can never really leave. I’m Kerris Fellwater, and I’m a spirit shaman. It’s my responsibility to drive the dead back to their graves, because around Whisper Hollow, people—and secrets—don’t always stay buried.

My best friend Peggin finds herself under a curse after she is almost taken by the Lady of the Lake, and the Unliving are determined to drag her back to the hungry waters. As Bryan—my guardian and mate—and I work to break the hex, we uncover a dark and violent mystery from the past. One the Hounds of Cú Chulainn will do anything to guard—even if they must summon a legion of the dead to destroy Whisper Hollow. (Goodreads)

Review:

I really enjoyed Shadow Silence, the second book in the Whisper Hallow paranormal series.

Shadow Silence takes place in the small town of Whisper Hallow, Washington, where people are drawn and, if they do leave, they will definitely come back home. Such is the case with Kerris Fellwater, a spirit shaman by birth right. Her grandmother dies before Kerris was able to learn all she needed to know to fulfill her legacy, but her paternal grandmother and the other matriarchs of the town are guiding her way. Spirits of the dead are everywhere in Whisper Hollow, the Lady of the Lake claims far too many lives, and there are opposing forces trying to keep Kerris in the dark. Evil is coming. In this installment, Kerris must do her best to keep the Lady of the Lake from taking her best friend Peggin to a watery grave. Much more is going on, though, and it all seems to be connected to the house Peggin has recently moved into. Kerris and her friends must work together to uncover the mystery held within the house even as things become more and more dangerous for all involved. Not everyone is as they seem, and Kerris learns the hard way that not everyone can be trusted.

There are MAJOR spoilers for Autumn Thorns in Shadow Silence. I cannot emphasize this enough. If you haven’t read the series from the beginning, proceed with caution (no spoilers in my review).

I like this book so much more than the first book in the series, Autumn Thorns, mostly because there is no exceptionally graphic sex here. Kerris and Bryan’s relationship, though they are meant to be together, was more about lust in Autumn, and it has mellowed into a sweet, yet passionate, love in this book. Kerris is learning more about her role as spirit shaman and her abilities. She is a strong, loyal character. Bryan is, as expected, sexy and little too good to be true, but I love him anyway. Peggin annoys me a bit, but she is still likable. And can we talk about Peggin’s love interest Dr. Divine “Deev” for a minute? I won’t spoil anything here, but I want to know everything about him. Hopefully, readers will learn more in the next installment. Perhaps my favorite characters, though, are Ellia and Kerris’s grandparents.

This series is rich in Celtic folklore, and Galenorn does a fantastic job of making all of the lore fresh for the twenty-first century story, providing plenty of insight without a boring information dump or too much all at one time. Knowledge about the The Gray Man, the Shadow People, the Screaming Tree, and Magda and the Hounds comes bit by bit, but there are plenty of secrets still to be revealed. I look forward to seeing what comes next for Kerris.

Shadow Silence provides hours of spine tingling entertainment. I recommend the Whisper Hollow series to fans of Ms. Galenorn and readers who enjoy ghosts and things that go bump in the night.

Kerris Fellwater left Whisper Hollow fifteen years before she was drawn back to the town after her grandmother, the spirit shaman, died. Now taking over her duties as the spirit shaman of the town, Kerris finds that she is needed more than ever when her best friend Peggin finds herself under the curse of the Lady of the Lake. Now with her guardian and mate, Bryan, as well as a host of allies helping her, Kerris finds a deadly mystery while trying to figure out how to break the hex on Peggin. One that if the Hounds of Cu Chulainn had their way would stay buried forever by whatever cost necessary. Now Kerris needs to fight not just the Lady of the Lake but the dead in order to save Peggin and Whisper Hollow.

SHADOW SILENCE is the second book in a wild and wonderful new series by author Yasmine Galenorn. We met Kerris, Bryan and the rest of the residents of Whisper Hollow in the first book, Autumn Thorns, and I fell in love with this magnificent world the author has given her readers. This is a town where the dead roam; magic is fact of life and the strange and wonderful place that is Whisper Hollow. I got to admit I get chills reading these first two books. It has mystery, romance, paranormal aspects and more that just pushed all my love buttons at once. The characters are diverse mix of paranormal and human and the mystery that is Whisper Hollow is fascinating to learn piece by piece as the author delivers it to the readers with in SHADOW SILENCE. What really hooked me were the characters. I fell in love with Kerris and the gang right from the start and devoured Autumn Thorns then Shadow Silence. They are unique and well written, quite multi-dimensional to the point where I wanted to go see if I could find Whisper Hollow myself, just to see if the town would welcome me. The author does a fabulous job in capturing the personalities of all the characters-main and secondary ones-and keep them growing in the second book. With the deft hand, she creates a world we can not help but imagine, one we want to run to and live among the characters she has created.

SHADOW SILENCE picks up where the first book left off and it doesn’t slow down at all. Filled with mystery, steamy romance and character growth that draw the reader in, the story weaves a spell around you even as you are drawn more and more into the world that is Whisper Hollow. I am so in awe of this author and how she can create such complex worlds that just draw a reader in. Since the first time I picked up this author’s book, Witchling, I fell in love with their writing and SHADOW SILENCE was no exception. This is truly a master storyteller who knows how to weave a spell around their readers’ right from the start and give them something that they fall in love with.

If you haven’t read Autumn Thorns, I highly recommend you read that one before diving into SHADOW SILENCE as it gives much background of Kerris, the town and more. I found it helps make the second book a bit clearer as it mentions past events from that first book a few times. Even though this was the final book with this author’s publisher, the author assures her readers that the series will continue and has announced the next two books in the series. All I know is I want more from Whisper Hollow and this author and am hoping we are not waiting too long for the next book in a series that will knock your socks off.
If you enjoy paranormal suspense, romance and a different sort of paranormal world to explore, then try the Whisper Hollow series and you will find yourself transported by the end of chapter one. I am eager to see where she leads next in this amazing series and what else the author has in store for the readers to devour.

I really like this series and I'm glad that I have found Yasmine Galenorn. I really loved Kerris and Bryan and Deev. I had a little more trouble getting into Peggin this time since most of the book was all her fault. I'm sorry, but you live there all your life and your best friend is the spirit shaman and you believe in all the mystical things going on and you still ignore all the warnings, then this is on you. I know that it had to happen to find the McGuffin, but seriously, it was a little hard to deal with all her upheavals. That being said, I loved Peggin in the first book and I love Deev and want to learn more about him, so I can't wait for the next in the series. I wish we had seen a little more with the Hounds and Magda, but it was really interesting learning about Veronica.

This was the last book I read for the year and it was amazing. We get to see Veronica the Queen of the Unliving and we learned a lot about her. Some of it was kind of predicatble her being a spirit shaman but the reason why she was punished that surprised me. I knew she must have done something bad. The plot was great and we learned a lot of backstory about the characters I found interesting. The romance was ok it did not take away from the action so that was good. The way this book ended makes me exciting for next year. I cannot wait to read the third and fourth book in this series.
