N. D. Iverson is a young author trying to find her niche in the world. She has a business degree - to which she is still trying to find a practical application for. She has bounced from half-baked ideas of becoming a forensic pathologist (cut short when the option for attending an autopsy came up and she rather quickly decided maybe that wasn't for her), a member of a rock band (sadly, neither she nor her friends could play instruments or sing, not that it's a requirement these days...), and many more.

This Would Be Paradise is her first completed novel, which has started a chain reaction of one-too-many book ideas dancing around in her head. She plans on wrangling in these ideas and turning them into something readable. So keep an eye out for more to come!

SOLID 4 STAR RATING..

My obsession with this genre is getting out of hand and no drug will cure me…other than buying more zombie books of course 🤣..

Being that this is this author's first novel, she surprisingly did a really good job.

Bailey and Zoe were partying it up at the Mardi Gras whilst blowing the last of their student loans before life became serious. But life threw a curveball at them when the virus hit. If that's not daunting enough the fact that they are not on their hometown turf and not knowing anyone was a double whammy. Hitting the hospital when the guy Zoe hooked up with gets bitten and shit starts to hit the fan they know they need to get to a safe zone, along the way going in the same direction is a guy named Darren.

They go to a local school surrounded by police and emergency response teams, here they meet Ethan and his younger sister Chloe. They were there seeing how bad the situation was before they headed towards their families sustainable cabin up in the mountains. So when the school is overrun by zombies Ethan knows they need guns and ammunition to defend themselves and knows of the perfect store off the beaten track towards his cabin.

At the gun shop they meet John and his son Taylor who join ranks with the rest.

Life at the cabin went along as one would expect for a few months in their safe haven, until one of their own is bitten, the cabin gets overrun and they are all separated neither knowing if the others got out or not. Bailey is now stuck with looking after Chloe, with no plans in mind or where to head to Chloe recalls a message she heard playing over the radio mentioning a safe zone..

This was fast paced, in some cases too fast paced, when it got to some of the more nail biting scenes, they were over before I could blink, and then onto the next scene of the book, parts of me wanted to stay in that adrenaline pumping scene a wee bit longer, but that’s my only niggle with this book, the pace can make or break a book, luckily it still allows for a connection with the characters and storyline.

I’m definitely keen enough to start the next book in this series.

So the question remains, team Bailey or Zoe, (besties) me I liked Bailey, she kind of reminded me of myself in some circumstances especially the laughing at inappropriate times, or her inner dialogue when shit was hitting the fan. And she’d proven herself capable when it mattered, from going to never handling a gun to becoming a pretty good shot.

LOTS OF CHARACTER DEATHS😭I discovered this on wattpad and was pretty happy with the first few chapters but I committed the mistake of opening the comment box and I’m so glad I did cause it was filled with RIP’s for majority of the characters. My heart couldn’t handle this. IT’S A ME NOT THE BOOK situation.

Well, this was an unexpected gem.

I began reading this book out of curiosity so i didn't have high expectations but it was surprisingly good! The plot and character development just kept improving with each chapter, the narrative progressed at a steady pace and the writing was engaging, entertaining and full of action and knuckle biting tension. This Would Be Paradise was an effortless read and I can't wait for the sequel.

Zombies have become a very popular subject in recent fiction. So a decent zombie story is rare and I'm grateful to have found one. Bailey is the protagonist in this novel who must adapt and find a way survive while the world tumbles into chaos. Zoe is her best friend and she quickly meets more people who form a family who can count on each other. There was some very graphic and violent scenes throughout the book. When zombies are trying to kill you, you have to make some tough choices. Despite the desperate situations Bailey and company find themselves in, there were some light-hearted moments too. The humor and relatable writing made the seriousness of the situation apart of the story instead of being the focus of it.

"If I had to listen to one more word about My Little Pony, I was going to shoot someone. Literally. I had a gun now."

I felt emotionally connected to the characters and was drawn in by the different ways they relate to each other. Bailey deals with her situation realistically, and acts how most readers would. The author used some flashbacks to give more context to who the characters are. I wished the book was a bit longer so that the characters were more fully fleshed out. The suspense was palpable and I found myself nervous about what was next while reading. The plot moved along well and I became fully invested in how the characters would get out of bad situations.

This was a great read, that I gave a chance despite being weary of the zombie subject matter. Being unsure of what's next but determined to make it to what that next is, is something everyone can relate to. I'm looking forward to reading on in the series, and didn't mind the cliff hanger ending. I would recommend this to readers looking for a zombie story, with good humor, tense moments and memorable characters.

"I felt the way you did when you came to the end of a particularly good book and now didn't know what to feel. Lost. Heartbroken. empty."

I received this ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The INFECTED have risen, wait why not just call em ZOMBIES,

what a great zombie apocalypse book, if zombies start to rise just find yourself a nice country boy with a cabin deep in the woods and go with him, just make sure you take plenty of condoms as you don't want to get a few months down the line and have to be rejected because you wasn't sure if you might need em,

I just love bailey, she's the sort of lass u would be, laughing in the face of awkwardness and everyone thinking you going insane, and thinking of jokes in the most weirdest places, thinking of a power walking zombie club, or even the fat zombie trying to get up off the floor, if that was me, well let's just say I would be bitten all over has I wouldn't be able to stop laughing, let's just hope her and chloe survive and find the rest of their gang, just so I can see if bailey and ethan get it on.
well just got to wait for the next book now, hope I get it before the real zombie apocalypse.

Zombies! You know I'm all about this, right? So when this book came along, I was thinking "Oh hell yeah!" New Orleans, Mardi Gras, and zombies. What's the worst that could happen? ND Iverson has written an exciting book, and I really loved getting her take on the apocalypse.

Bailey and Zoe are in town celebrating all the way from the north, so they are definitely out of their element. When the infection starts, there is a lot of confusion around. It's something that kind of came out of no where and is catching the area by surprise. To the reader, it's obvious right from the start what is happening, but to those in the thick of it, it's not as obvious. They know there is an infection, and it's turning people into these rabid type of maniacs. But no one is actively saying the word "zombie" right away. It's exciting to witness the bit of confusion. Whenever I read a zombie horror novel, I always ask myself if I would handle it the same as the characters - and I totally love that no matter how many zombie novels I read, they are all so different.

Bailey is a bit stronger than Zoe, physically and mentally. Where Zoe backs down from a fight, Bailey faces it head on. That's definitely a quality I like to see in my heroines. Bailey and Zoe meet up with a couple people along the way in the very beginning. As for our heroine, she is a bit weary of some of the people, which I suppose she would have to be. But it kind of bothered me, because I didn't see these people acting in a way they shouldn't. In one instance, a zombie gets their head stomped. Graphic, yes. But also needed in that instance. When you are faced with life and death, you choose life, and however you need to be able to keep choosing life, you take that direction. But Bailey is young, and maybe not quite as jaded as I am, and she views this action as something she may need to keep a closer eye on. All in all, caution is not a bad thing. But when the going gets tough, I want the person who will survive no matter the cost on my team.

A bright spot in all of this badness comes in the form of a nine year old girl named Chloe. She's a smart girl, and she calls the infection out as what it is right away: Zombies. This child is bright and energetic, and I felt like she really puts a happy spin on the whole situation. Children might be a liability, but the girl is smart. When it comes down to it, I really feel she is more asset than liability.

This is only book one, and a lot happens. The group grows in numbers, and finds refuge. But it's not paradise, and they'd do well to not get too comfortable in their bubble. People die in this book, and some of them are people who I didn't necessarily want to see go. I really got the feeling that no one is safe, and that's what I want to see in a zombie horror novel. ND Iverson's writing is smooth and fast paced. I was drawn into this world she created, and quickly found myself attached to the characters, sharing their wins and losses right along with them. If you are looking for zombies, I'd definitely say check this book out!

So, I am definitely in a zombie book mood, and I decided to start reading this one. It has been gathering dust on my kindle for some months now. :P

The book starts off calm, but that is just a facade, a zombie apocalypse is starting, and Bailey quickly finds herself running for her life. I loved that this. Not the running for dear life, but that the story doesn't waste time getting to the action, to the confusion, to the end of everything. I have read enough zombie books that just started with everything before the zombies. Of course in those books it is quite clear that something is not right, there are news reports flying about, people are sick, and much more, but it doesn't happen often that we just dive headfirst in an apocalypse. I do wonder much our girls had to drink that they didn't notice anything was wrong until they went outside.

And from that point on we see the standard confusion, someone is bitten, is he or she OK? I can tell you now, if I ever hear about a strange strain of flu, and I see someone who has been bitten, I won't be making friends with them, if anything I will just walk around them. Far far around them. Really, it is such a cliche that in almost every zombie book these people just walk up to someone who is clearly not right, and then getting their faces bitten off afterwards. :P You can just imagine me shouting at the book each and every time it happens.
I did like the fact that Bailey was scratched. Not that I am into that thing, or that I feel like she deserved it, but it added something. Plus it brought a returning theme throughout the book. She has to keep it hidden, not everyone may be so kind about it, plus there is the added stress if she is immune or if she will still turn in the end. I am still curious about the immune part. Quite often in books about zombies scratches will turn you.

Bailey was a terrific character. She was quite authentic, and I could really relate with her and her actions. I think I would also be a Bailey in an apocalypse. Not knowing how to handle a gun (sorry guys, but where I live guns aren't allowed for everyone and you can't just find them at your local grocery store), even after practising she still had her problems (which is logical), but also feeling the guilt of having to murder/kill another human being, even if that person is a zombie. And later even the feeling of having to defend herself at something worse than zombies, and those that read zombie books know what I mean. Plus add to that the worry that you might be a liability to the group.
But Bailey is not giving up. She is fighting hard to earn her place, she is fighting hard to survive, she is doing everything she can to become better. To figure out how to get supplies, how to fight zombies. In the later parts she even takes care of Chloe, and while yes, she made mistakes, she still did all she could, and I just wanted to hug her and tell her that she is doing a great job. That she did nothing wrong, especially not when that happened.

Of course we also have other characters. From best to worst: Ethan, Zoe, John, Taylor, Darren, Chloe.
Ethan was such a sweetheart, and I was definitely shipping these two together. Yes, not all that appropriate considering the situation at hand, but they fitted together perfectly.

Zoe was a sweet girl, though we don't see a lot of her, especially not when the group gets together. I did think this was a shame, I wouldn't have minded seeing more Zoe. She isn't really that strong (we never really see her fight, and she generally stays inside), but she was interesting and she certainly had snark.

John, and also Taylor. It took some time to get me to like them. They really didn't make a good first impression.

Darren, I am still not sure what to think of the guy. At times he did do some awesome things, and he showed he knew how to handle the situation, but at other times I was just waiting for him to do something bad.

Chloe. Parts good, but mostly bad. I was at first quite delighted that this tiny girl knew how to handle her guns, and the fact she had snark. But then as the story progressed I only saw a girl who is a liability. Yes, I know this is harsh, but she did several things that would have brought down zombies on everyone. Add to that that even though she is supposedly so strong and dependent she always needs someone to kill the things in front of her. The thing that happened to her (don't worry, nothing too major) made me just dislike her more. I get that it hurts, I get that you want to hate someone, but really, this is not what you should do. Plus all the screaming? Do you want to get all the zombies to the house?

Of course there are also enough cliches in the book that one also finds in every other zombie book.

Then there are still the questions I have. Like what happened during that time when Bailey got back at the cabin? How did the flu spread? Is there a cure coming? Where is the military? Are there more survivors next to that group of douchebags? Didn't anyone see this coming? Will Bailey ever see her family again? How far spread is this disease/epidemic? Is it really international as was mentioned on that last message on the radio, or was that just a lie? And then there are a few other questions that I just hope will get answered in the next books.

The book is fast-paced, the zombies are creepy, there isn't that much gore (thankfully), there is never a dull moment.

I really liked the bonus chapter that was added at the end. It tied up neatly with the first chapter, plus we see Darren there too.

There was just one other thing, next to Chloe, that I didn't entirely like. And that thing was the fact that the book moves a few months in the future at one point, just like that from one chapter to another, and it was really jarring, and also slightly confusing. I had to re-read that page, and the previous one to make sure I was reading it right.

What more? Mm, I think I mentioned everything. Without a question I would recommend this book to everyone looking for a fast-paced zombie book.

Am I too much of a snob to think this book was beyond boring. Where is the adventure, the chaos, heck I'd even settle for a little bit of action. There was nothing, just a detailed description of Day to day life, hiding from zombies in the middle of nowhere.
I'll leave it at that, I was disappointed.

A much better story than the first book

4.75 out of 5 stars

After getting out of New Orleans, Baily realizes that she is going to have to do a lot more to keep her and Chloe alive. She must trust certain people while not trusting others. It's all about survival and Bailey is getting good at surviving.

The narration for This Would Be Paradise Book 2 was done by Carly Robins, who perfectly portrays Bailey. She has that perfect voice that helps you really get into the story.

I'm sure that book 1 was "atmosphere" and character building, but it felt like I wasn't supposed to like the main character. Which makes a book hard to read. But, This Would Be Paradise Book 2 really took a nice turn. Iverson did an almost 180 in the characters. Bailey was so much more likable in this book, and she is thrown into bad situation after bad situation but now you are rooting for her.

A tip I would give any author: please name your books differently. I don't mind if you call this book two in the This Would Be Paradise series, but having book 1 and 2 have the exact same name drives me bonkers! It's so hard to reference it other than the full title or "book 2."

The addition of new characters, especially the cook in the first half of the book, really helped take this book to the next level. I love unique and caring people and this time Iverson sprinkled them in from time to time.

Overall, This Would Be Paradise Book 2 was a much faster and more enjoyable book than the first book in the series. There was a lot more character development and a much better grasp on which direction the story was going to take.

Bailey is just waking up with the worst hangover ever. Mardi Gras will do that to a person. But after nearly being eaten by a person down in the hotel lobby, Bailey is starting to wonder if maybe she had more than just drinks last night. What in the world is going on? As her and Zoe manage to seek out answers and get out of New Orleans, they realize it will be a fight for their lives. A fight they may not win. Or survive.

I tried to like the main character, Bailey, but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I could never figure out how her and Zoe were friends when she treated Zoe like crap. Bailey tried to come off like she is this sarcastic person. But there are funny sarcastic people...then there are the rude as crap sarcastic people. And Bailey was the latter. The kind of person no one likes to be around. I just didn't like her and I didn't connect with her.

Other than my feels (or lack thereof) for Bailey, I did enjoy the story. It's zombies after all. But I felt the characters had it a bit too easy at times finding supplies and getting around. I just don't think in an apocalyptic world things will be that easy. But I still enjoyed the author's telling of what she thinks will happen in a zom apoc.

In the end, it was a good story and had me hooked pretty much the entire book. It had me wanting more when I was away from the book and it gave me a hard time when I had to set it down. I look forward to seeing what will happen in the next one and hope everything works out for everyone. At the moment it is not looking very. 4 Stars!

This tale....shakes my head. Real people do real things. I was a bit skeptical about this storytelling from the point of a 22 year old who is clearly old enough to get drunk and regularly bar hop, travel across the country from her homeland of Canada to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and have a slutty ass friend but not old enough to drive (/have her licence) or properly read a map....well...those should have been the warning signs right? The story wasn't too bad UNTIL the one adult in this group thought it would be a good idea to head in to a town in the midst of an apocalypse with vehicles over loaded with supplies for a radio. Because you so clearly need to find out what's going on that you would risk your haul and the lives of the children who were under your care. I was surprised they didn't get jumped on the road. MADNESS. I mean....authors have creative license, but that was just beyond stupid. As a man with military training (albeit retired), that was beyond disappointing. By then...it was too far to stop reading (listening), I just kept on reading to see if men got killed or the girl raped...Alas...there was a totally PG ending to that mess. I did find solace in the fact that the son died due to his stupidity. So I was happy with that closed loop of Karma.

This is seriously one of the best zombie books I have read in a long time. I know it's a zombie book (I'm not crazy!) but the writing was intense, and just seemed so realistic. I loved the main character Bailey- she didn't start off as some sort of guns blazing hero, but she adjusted and developed into an ass kicking zombie survivalist. I found the storyline really unique and gripping, and I just found the overall writing style and description to be really engaging and pulled me in. The gore level was creepy and perfect, and I liked the way the zombies developed slowly, and that the main characters were still walking around amid the chaos going to hospitals and trying to find an emergency shelter amid the infected people tackling regular people on the street. I could pretty much see this entire book in my head playing like a movie. This author is really imaginative, and that shows and shines through in this book. If you are a fan of zombie fiction, then this is the perfect novel. I can't wait to finish reading the second book in this series on Wattpad.

DNF. Narrator, Carly Robins, is HORRIBLE. The rise and fall of her pitch makes ZERO sense given whatever situation occurring. Forced to turn volume up and then rush to turn down when out of nowhere she shouts to let the listener know how very dangerous tying one's shoes can be. Also, very much a YA story. Not for mature adults.
Started reading early Jan 2024. While the story was rather lackluster and immature for my taste, I was willing to try to finish (hell, it's free); however, after nearly seven hours of the narrator's absurd vocal interpretation, I was fed up and hating the world.
24 Feb 2024, tried a 2nd time to finish the book and gave up once again (this time after only 25 min). No three strikes for me. Immature writing and horrible narration - two strikes. I'm out. Peace.

Let’s not sugarcoat it. For a book about the collapse of civilisation and the rise of the undead, “This Would Be Paradise” is about as thrilling as a beige spreadsheet and twice as repetitive. It doesn’t grab you. It doesn’t shake you. It just slumps in your lap like a dying houseplant and expects you to care.

The zombie apocalypse should be chaotic. It should be horrifying. It should, at a bare minimum, be interesting. Instead, we get tepid mediocrity disguised as narrative, a story that somehow manages to make the end of the world feel like a quiet weekend of mild inconvenience. A few zombies show up, very occasionally, like badly animated extras who’ve wandered in from a more exciting novel. But mostly, it’s just long passages of nothing. Just people hiding out and having the kind of bland interpersonal conflicts that wouldn’t even hold water in a low-budget reality show.

This isn’t even bad in a fun way. It’s not gloriously unhinged or so-bad-it’s-good. It’s the literary equivalent of wet cardboard. And not even freshly wet. Soggy-from-last-week, smells-a-bit-off cardboard. The prose is clunky, the characters are wafer-thin, and the plot unfolds with all the suspense of watching someone complete a moderately difficult sudoku.

“Confuses ‘young adult’ with ‘shoddily written’” doesn’t even begin to cover it. The character work is so undercooked it’s still clucking. The emotional beats are paint-by-numbers. The relationships feel like someone tried to simulate human interaction after studying it exclusively through Hallmark trailers and outdated Tumblr posts. And the dialogue? Jesus wept. It reads like everyone’s permanently concussed. Not one line crackles. Not one exchange lands. It’s all just limp exchanges and moody sighs like some Year 10 drama script rejected for being too tedious.

Then there’s the kid. The shrieking, tantrum-prone, apocalypse-ruining kid. In a world where silence equals survival, this child is a walking liability. And yet everyone just tolerates it, like, “Oh, she’s only yelling at the top of her lungs again during a literal zombie siege. Isn’t she adorable?” No. No, she is not. She is the worst. I don’t often barrack for the undead, but even they deserved better.

The “big twist”? Laughable. The pacing? Non-existent. The setting? Generic to the point of insult. It’s as if the author skimmed three other zombie books, watched The Walking Dead with the sound off, and then decided, “Yes, but what if we removed all the excitement?”

One and a half stars. One for the effort of typing. Half for the concept, which could have worked in the hands of someone with either a pulse or a clue. This is not a paradise. It’s not even a functioning limbo. It’s a lifeless shuffle through genre tropes that deserved to stay buried. Just like the characters. Just like this book.

I’d give this 3.5, leaning on 4 so I’m rounding up. It’s nothing groundbreaking in terms of the zompoc genre. The characters were kind of flat, I didn’t really connect with any besides Bailey and sometimes she was just a little annoying going from naive and dumb to the smartest one in the room. I did find the father’s reaction pretty spot on but wished more had been explored instead of a timeskip. I wish there had been more substance between the characters when time skips happened instead of just getting to the next section of action. We got one brief flashback of all the characters hanging out. Hoping for more in the next book! Overall, I enjoyed it. Just some things I think the author could do better with is fleshing out the side characters and relationships more with story instead of being told who they were and how it was felt about them after their death

I listened to this book so here is my take on the narrator. I agree with other reviews, the narrator had too much inflection and didn’t always match the mood of the words. Her cadence was also a little hard to follow along with as she’d pause and then go on but it wouldn’t match how she had been previously been speaking. The male voices sounded the same and was hard to configure who was who until a dialogue tag was said. Definitely has potential and not the worst I’ve ever listened to

Ehh, I just didn't find myself really invested in this one. I listed to it via Audible and found my mind wandering quite a bit. I am not sure if it is because I didn't really care for the characters, or if it was the narrator that I didn't like (who's country twang was exasperatingly overdone), but either way I just didn't care all too much. Actually, I do think it was more about the mesh of characters - nothing was really going on between them other than they all lived in the same house. There was no fights, tension, romance, etc. It just seemed like they were all just people staying at the same B&B. They were just people that interacted with each other because they had to but were still separate from each other. If I actually cared about the group, then I'm sure the storyline would have drawn me in a little further because I would have actually cared about what happened to them, but I didn't...so, it didn't. I am continuing on to the next book because I love this genre, and am hoping that the introduction of new characters (stated in the blurb) grabs my attention more than the first group.

This was an old childhood obsession revisited. The nostalgia this book gave me was nothing short of surreal. You see, i used to have an INTENSE zombie obsession in middle school (thank you, rick grimes), and i stumbled upon this book at the perfect time. For so many years, i couldn’t remember the (rather memorable, at least amongst apocalypse novels) name of that one zombie series i used to be so obsessed with!

Well, i finally found it. Getting to remember the love i had for Bailey, chloe, ethan (who for some reason i remembered as being named Sawyer LMAO), Zoe, Taylor, John, and the gang was great. I read the OG draft on wattpad, so it was a little rough here and there, but underneath was a very solid story that was very near and dear. I wouldnt reccomend this book to just anyone, because i know my tastes are not the same as some others’. However; if u are into zombie shit and group/solo survival shenanigans; go for it. Devour this book whole.

It was an ok read for me.
Nothing spectacular and nothing new.
The author couldn’t hook me enough to have me keep on reading. The main reason for that was that I didn’t care much for the main character.
Though that is my personal taste.
It also may be because I didn’t get to know the characters really. The main character was so occupied with herself and the brief real time interactions didn’t say much about them, besides the obvious superficial attributes.
And mostly we only get to know the characters by what the main protagonist tells us about them and that is very superficial and little.
It is a common plot and the tools used as well. So the strong focus should have been on interesting characters, but that fell short for me.

I was searching through Wattpad for zombie stories when I found this book. Normally, I don't find much that is good on Wattpad (no offense to those who write on there, I am also an author on Wattpad.) But I was surprised at how well done the first couple of chapters were when I started reading, compared to what else I had found. It's safe to say, I finished the book and enjoyed it. Though, there were some boring parts here and there, I found myself getting inspired to read more zombie books. I am now reading book two, and am enjoying it thus far and how the character development is going well on the way.

Standard zombie outbeak novel

Ok entry in the genre. Plot moves at a good clip. Characterization is a bit uneven and naively unrealistic. The libertine gal pals of our protagonist makes no moves on men in the group even though months elapse, for example. Done dubious word choices and phrasing.

I love these books so much! I am a sucker fo apocalyptic fiction and this is my favorite book of that genre! The character development and plot was so good. I was hooked and I found it hard to put down. I loved the humor and romance incorporated into it too, it really put the finishing touches on a great story. I will totally read it again.

I read it on Wattpad, and I've heard there was a few changes to the completed copy but i still count that i have read it. This book is absolutely amazing, i love it with my soul. I do however dislike the characters literal dumbness. Ofc the problems were always resolved and i didnt mind that, but the characters, mainly the MC really got on my nerves lol. Anyways loved this book.

Read this on Wattpad and its probably one of my favourite zombie books! I loved the characters (even though so many died...) and their reaction to their situation felt so realistic to how real people would respond. I liked how the story went into depth about how scared the main character was to kill the zombies, and she didn't magically just turn into a good fighter like in other zombie stories.

This book is beautiful, it's incredibly fast-paced which is perfect if you don't like waiting for the book to get interesting, the characters are loveable you get to feel a great connection to the little group. This book has a bit of romance in it for all the hopeless romantics out there but it's not too much romance to the point it's the entire plot.
