The Stolen Empire series is a decedent look at one of history's most scandalous queens, Catherine the Great of Russia. Beginning with her humble origins and culminating with her coronation, this series offers a fanciful glimpse inside the life of the dynamic, strong young woman who won the hand of a king, the heart of a nation, and, ultimately, sacrificed her own innocence on the throne of an empire. The trials and tribulations of court life left their scars on young Sophie—the girl who would be Catherine, but she faced down every obstacle with the courage and grace of a queen.
Sherry is the author of over a dozen novels for teens and young adults including the best selling Stolen Empire series. She can often be found browsing her local bookstore with a large white hot chocolate in one hand and a towering stack of books in the other. That is, unless she's on deadline at which time she, like the Loch Ness monster, is only seen in blurry photographs. Sherry also writes contemporary romance under the pen name SJ Noble. You can find her at her official website, www.sherryficklin.com, or stalk her on her Facebook page www.facebook.com/sherry.ficklin.
I really enjoyed the story. I loved the characters. I know it was fiction, but she based it on real characters. I deducted stars because she didn’t follow historical events as closely as she could have. But still a good read.
So....the ending left me feeling---not good. I hate that. I put up with quite a bit that upset me throughout the story because the pages just flew by. Props to the author on that. In fact, that's why I'm giving 3 stars when in fact I don't recommend it at all. ALL the people in this story are depraved, twisted, selfish jerks. There is not a single person I could like or respect. Yes, I know it's historical. That makes it worse. Plus, that terrible ending......no. Just no.
This trilogy was wonderfully written with insight, detail and wit seldom seen in today’s authors. I would Highly recommend buying these books also in hardcover format to enjoy re-reading and sharing over and over again.
The main character it's fully thawed out all three novels in this box that integrate well together. The three novels are very long weed but filled with good character definition. I highly recommend the read.
I highly recommend this entire series. If you are a fan of Reign or The Tudors this i have the series to read. A fictional story of the rise of Catheine the Great wow!!
I’ve only read a few chapters but this book is written extremely well. Vivid descriptions. Lots of action. It is holding my interest and I want to read more.
I am a #BookHoarder - so even though I had each of these books in separate ebook form I needed them as a boxed set as well! I felt like the author did such an amazing job with this series that I needed to support her doubly - This is one of my favorite series of this year and the only reason I waited so long to read them is because I knew that I would need the next book right away and I wasn't willing to wait for each one - The reviews for this series were so amazing and so exciting that I was just waiting for them all!! I highly recommend that you read this series - it is an emotional one that will have you laughing, crying, yelling, screaming and at times cursing the author - but it is one that will stick with you for a long time - it is one that you will want to re-read over and over because you know that you have missed something the first time....grab this series and get started, but set aside some time because once you start you won't want to stop until you have reached the end!!
Any review for this book needs to be prefaced with one fact: this book is far more fiction than fact. While based on people who actually lived, the story itself is not based entirely on true events. Ficklin herself says it the best in her Author’s Note at the end of book two, Queen of Tomorrow, that these books are “not meant to be a historically accurate representation, but a fanciful tale of one of the greatest rulers who ever lived. Any mistakes, errors, or inconsistencies are mine alone, and are probably on purpose…I have included a great deal of historical fact, only to then meddle with it greatly.” Read the full review here
I came across this series by chance.....boy am I Vlad I did! I literally COULD NOT put it down! Sherry Ficklin....where have you been all my life? Her writing is AMAZING! The Stolen Empire chronicles the life, in a fictional tale, of the rise of Catherine the great of Russia. The story follows Sophie, from humble beginnings, to becoming a powerful empress. You can feel her love, her pain, her strength. A few words were misplaced, but I was completely intrigued. Do yourself a favor and read this series. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I was quickly invested. I look forward to reading more by this author.
