Recenzie – “Montezuma și Furia Zeilor” de Fabian Lenk
Este al treisprezecilea volum din seria “Detectivii Timpului” și este un roman polițist din Imperiul Aztec. Fabian Lenk ne introduce prin această serie de romane într-o călătorie prin diverse perioade istorice alături de Julian, Kim, Leon și pisica lor, Kija.
Destinația din acest volum este Tenochtitlan – anul 1510 după Hristos unde vom face cunoștință cu unul dintre cei mai renumiți conducători ai aztecilor și anume, Montezuma al II-lea. Cu fiecare pagină citită, cititorii vor afla despre cultura, tradițiile, obiceiurile, nivelul de trai, legislația și multe altele despre perioada menționată anterior. Aici se mai adaugă geografie, arhitectură, arme, bani și vestimentații.
Cazul pe care trebuie să-l rezolve cei trei detectivi ne amintesc de romanele polițiste cu întorsătură de situație. Alături de ei vom învăța că lucrurile nu sunt ceea ce par și că iertarea este uneori soluția pentru o viață liniștită alături de ceilalți. Orbiți de ură și de setea de putere, putem să facem lucruri pe care mai târziu ajungem să le regretăm.
Prin istețime, autocontrol și curaj putem să vedem detalii care le scapă multora și să scoatem adevărul la suprafață fără să ne lăsăm intimidați de alții sau de împrejurimi. Câteva dintre temele discutate sunt invidia, nesiguranța, încrederea, empatia, vitejia, minciuna, trădarea, perseverența, hărnicia etc.
Romanul în sine are câteva asemănări cu „Templul Soarelui” din seria „Aventurile lui Tintin” de Hergé întrucât în ambele cărți, acțiunea se desfășoară în perioada a două imperii puternice, Imperiul Aztec și Imperiul Inca în cea de-a doua carte, iar personajele principale trebuie să se bazeze pe inteligență și bagajul de cunoștințe îmbogățit de-a lungul poveștii pentru a supraviețui. Poate fi considerat de asemenea o filă ruptă dintr-o carte de istorie.
Domnul Lenk este printre primii scriitori care ne demonstrează că putem să-i învățăm pe cititori istorie și să-i introducem în bucuria lecturii în același timp folosindu-și cunoștințele, documentarea și imaginația pentru a crea o operă de artă educativă și captivantă.
Felul Kijei de a se comporta se aseamănă cu Watson, pisica Agathei din seria „Agatha Mistery” de Sir Steve Stevenson, care îi ajută pe eroi să rezolve diverse cazuri. Există momente când aceasta ne dă impresia că nu este o pisică obișnuită după felul cum acționează în diferite situații. Deși nu sunt înrudiți, eroii romanelor din seria “Detectivii Timpului” sunt exemplul muncii în echipă. Curajoși, isteți și pregătiți pentru o nouă aventură, cei trei copii sunt gata să rezolve un caz nou.
Recomand acest roman cititorilor începând cu nouă ani.
Review of „Montezuma and the Wrath of the Gods ” by Fabian Lenk
It’s the thirteenth book from “The Time Detectives” series and it’s a detective story from the Aztec Empire. Through this series, Fabian Lenk introduces us in a journey through different historical settings and time periods along with Julian, Leon, Kim and their cat, Kija.
The destination here is Tenochtitlan in the year 1510, where we will meet with one of the most famous leaders of the Aztecs namely, Montezuma II. With every page read, the readers will find out about the culture, traditions, customs, standard of living, legislation and many other things in the period mentioned earlier. We may add geography, architecture, weapons, money and clothing.
The case that the three detectives have to solve reminds us of the detective stories with a plot twist. Together with them, we will learn that things aren’t what they seem and that forgiveness is sometimes the solution to a pleasant life with others. Blinded by hate and thirst for power, we do things that we will later regret.
Through cleverness, self-control and courage we can see the details that are missed by others and uncover the truth without being intimidated by others or our surroundings. Envy, insecurity, trust, empathy, bravery, lie, treason, perseverance and diligence are some of the themes discussed throughout this book.
The novel itself has a few similarities to “Prisoners of the Sun” from “The Adventures of Tintin” series by Hergé since in both books; the action takes place during the era of two mighty empires namely the Aztec Empire and the Inca Empire in the latter, and the main characters have to rely on their intelligence and baggage of knowledge they extended throughout the story to survive. It can also be considered a page ripped from a history book.
Mr. Lenk is one of the first writers, who proved that one can both teach the readers history and make them discover the joy of reading by using one’s knowledge, documentation and imagination to create an educational and captivating work of art.
Kija’s behavior is similar to Watson’s, Agatha’s cat from the “Agatha: Girl of Mystery” series by Sir Steve Stevenson because both cats act like police dogs and help the heroes with their cases. There are moments when she gives us the impression that she’s not a normal cat due to the way she acts in different situations. Although they’re not related, the heroes from “The Time Detectives” series set a good example of teamwork. Brave, clever and ready for a new adventure, the trio is ready to solve a new case.
I recommend this book to readers 9+.

Irgendwie hat sich der Fall falsch angefühlt. Schon das Diener und Sklave teils als Synonym verwendet wurden, hat mich gestört. Die Kapitelbilchen der Katze waren wieder putzig und das Infokapitel auch interessant. Das war es aber auch.
