This book (more like a long article) allowed me to start this website, so it’s only fair that I include it.
Before I read it, I thought self-hosting on WordPress was out of reach for me. I tried to get an SSL certificate for another website I own, and was completely adrift. Every “help” page was written in a language that I almost understood, but not quite. I didn’t know what I didn’t know, and couldn’t seem to bridge the gap. How could I therefore install WordPress on my own? Gabrielle made the process very easy to follow, and I was able to transfer this site from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org site without much trouble.
Ironically, the one issue I did run into was getting an SSL certificate. My hosting provider offered one for free, which I didn’t know. Before you buy any hosting package, I recommend checking to see if your host offers some kind of SSL certificate before you sign up. It’ll save you a headache.
If you already know how to set up a self-hosted WordPress site, then there’s no reason to buy this book. If you want to use one of the many free articles and videos on this topic to get started, then I wouldn’t get this, since it gives you information you can find for free on the web. This book is only a dollar, though, so if you’re looking for one book to get you started, instead of toggling through a million articles online, I would recommend reading this book.
This book only shows you how to set up your website, plus some tips for choosing a theme. If you’re looking for a more comprehensive guide, look elsewhere.

So you’ve decided to start your own blog. You want to join in the craze popularity of this informational, conversational World Wide Web means of communicating thoughts and ideas. Why not? You have a great idea for a blog theme: cooking, recipes, book reviews, movie reviews, political views, environmental issues, the list of possibilities is endless, really. It’s all out there, but there’s always room for more. You have your ideas, you know how to write, now all you need is the know-how to get this blog up and running. The only thing holding you back is your knowledge of computers, the internet and basically anything involving technology. Do you really have to be a computer geek to understand the process? The answer is ‘No’.
There are sites on the internet to help any non-techie get started, but Gundi Gabrielle’s little guide, “Starting a Successful Blog when you have NO CLUE! 7 Steps to WordPress Bliss.... (Beginner Internet Marketing Series Book 1)” is a concise process that leads even the most resistant non-techie through the in’s and out’s of setting up a blog. And all in seven, well organized and easily presented steps. The guide leads the would-be blogger from the first very basic steps of host sites, through the techniques of registering and setting up the blog and, most important, publishing the first post. That’s the easy part, apparently. Now comes the real work, setting up plugins, establishing a mailing list, marketing and basically making the blog really work for the blogger. With screen views with arrows to point to important icons and instructions on what to click, this is a very useful tool for the would-be blogger.
I wasn’t expecting much just a bunch of fluff but I was pleasantly surprised! I like that the instructions were followed by actual screenshots of the dashboard area so I know I’m clicking on the right tab. I also like that there are suggestions on which Web Hosting works best for beginners and the cost as well. The only thing is I would have like to know what the regular price will be after the discount price period has expired. The information wasn’t too overwhelming and I learned a lot. And don’t worry there isn’t any fluff just straightforward instructions and if you want to get more details she has links to more details on specific topics that help make blogging a success.
I downloaded Starting a Successful Blog when you have no CLUE! as a free book from Amazon. This book definitely steers the reader to specific vendors, which is alright if they live up to the hype, but the book does offer some really good advice and breaks down terminology for the new blogger, and newbie web developer. I've tried some of her suggestions and I'm using the guide to create my own website, blog... we'll soon see if it translates to real life.
Gundi has a very down to earth, easy to follow writing style that clearly explains the goals of her book and then she provides a blueprint for the reader to follow in order to be successful in the bloggersphere. If all of this sounds great she also provides an online video course with step by step visual instructions. A must read for anyone looking for the freedom to be their own boss and enjoy life without geographical dependence.
This is a good starting point for blogging if you know nothing about blogging. However, I was really put off by all the self promotion and advertisements throughout the book. I also didn't appreciate the author referred to information that was in one of the links included, almost assuming we had clicked the link and read it. If information is important to include, you should include it in the book and not via a link.
If you really do have no clue, then it's a great start.
But, if you've got the basics set up, (i.e. a name, a platform, a topic, a goal) then please don't bother.
She makes it very obvious (along with her other books), that she's literally done this for the money - she doesn't really care if it actually helps you or brings value to anyone. It's a waste of a book, and really could be done with one blog post.
How to set up or start a blog? How to make it popular and profitable?its a basic guide about lending pages, email marketing, domain registration, etc. This book focuses on every aspect of blogging. It contains pictorial presentations. But many links are not working.
I hated this « wanna be book » I really don’t like that all the book can be a nice 10 minutes long video in YouTube and that there’s absolutely no content in this book anything. Don’t waste your money and we have only affiliate links which I really hate because not specified and absolutely not cool to just write a long article for putting your affiliate links.
I didn't finish the book because the author seemed to have some sort of relationship with a vendor. There was a frequently mentioned discount offered for a certain product, and it read more like an 'infomercial' than a reference book.
This book only offers the bare minimum on starting a blog. There are other books who go into debt on marketing, niche, topics, monetizing your blog. This book is not it
Very informative, with several links to other articles. What I like the m oil at about the book is that I didn't feel overwhelmed. I like to start slowly. Then you have the web to go more into depth a bout specific subjects.
This little ebook can help you to set up the blog. Everything seems clear and that’s most important when you take your first steps in any field - that someone can show you how it can be done in a simple way!
If this was a crash course for 10 yr olds, the instructions do suit them. But the 70% of test of the book is full of pampering self-affirmations, self-admiration and promise of greatness as nothing to the subject of the book.
Stay away from this one. It has not substance but bunch of (affiliated) links to other resources. This book fits bait and switch method. Hugely disappointing to see this book even being offered as prime reading.
The Sassy Zen Girl is a great easy to follow guide for starting a blog and breaking down what is important. Will definitely be reading more of her books!
This was a quick read packed with useful information. I am looking for to the rest of the series. Thanks for taking the time to create something wonderful.
Book about how to setup WordPress blog, which plugins are recommend to use, which hosting services, where to get domain for your blog... And all the basics of how to start your blog using WordPress
This a an ok book, but had led content than I expected, she mostly points you in the direction on where to find information than actually giving you the information.
