I didn’t hate it but it wasn’t “okay” either :(

Meh, this had a lot of my pet peeves that normally would have made me rage about it but honestly the characters were so bland that not even having huge triggers for me, got me emotionally invested. I just didn’t care for Lora or Chase.

The blurb promises shifters, danger, angst and a steamy love story. What I read was a very immature and weak willed heroine who lets her horniness decide her every decision and a “Hero” who rejects her at every turn. *eye roll* But of course the sex is awesome so he can’t really stay away. Pathetic.

A few things that struck me as odd:
#1. It’s mentioned that in this world of shifters aka metamorphs, their not reproducing as much so they protect their kind at all costs. In this society and with this mentality, does the best friend’s little sister off-limits nonsense still apply? Because I would think that everyone, the brother included would be happy these two were lucky enough to find their true mates since their species is dwindling. Just my thoughts.

And #2. The second reason Chase rejects Lora is because he doesn’t want to be like his dad. He watched his father waste away when his mother died (they were mated) and we’re told that when you lose a mate, it’s like you lost your other half and you can’t go on. But in the next chapter we’re told that Lora’s father died 5 years ago but her mother is still a functioning loving mother. A mother that Chase is close to because when he lost his parents, this family took him and his brother in. I would get it if he had only been exposed to his parents sad story but he grew up with a family that was able to move on after losing a mate/father so I didn’t’ really get why he was so sure mating was bad. He literally got to see both sides and I guess was just being stubborn about remaining a bachelor?

3. I’m still totally confused about the mating bond in this world. Chase bites (aka mates) with Lora in the beginning of the book, to save her life. Although Lora knows that he is her mate and Chase later admits to knowing it too, anyone can bite you and mate you. It doesn’t have to be your one true mate or anything. When you mate, the bite releases some essence that makes you super aroused called the mating heat. Again anyone bitten can experience this. Mating is supposed to be forever but it turns out that isn’t true. Lora gets bitten twice (once by Chase and later by the villain) and the second bite severs her “forever” mating bond with Chase? See, so confused here! What really bugged me about the whole biting/mating thing was that both times it was done against the h’s will. It all seemed so anticlimactic.

Also it was never explained why Lora so easily agreed with OM that she felt their “connection” too. Which to me, just proves that the “forever” mating thing isn’t all that special. If Lora, who claims to have known Chase was her mate since she was a kid, can admit she feels a special connection to another guy too, how is that different or special from what she feels for the Hero? Or can you have more than one true mate in this world???

And lastly, #4. Where was the angst?! After finding out what traumatized Lora so much that she had to sever her connection to her lion was a really good reason. But although she says she feels remorse and pain I never really bought it. She promises her sister that she isn’t going to let Chase back into her life but one kiss and she’s a panting driven-by-her-baser-instincts woman who forgets everything and everyone for some hot sweaty sex. This had so much potential but it died a quick death with such a spineless heroine.

Over all this one just isn’t what I’m looking for in my PRN reads. Mating bonds and one true mates are a huge draw for me but they have to literally be forever. This interchangeable concept was not what I was expecting and didn’t really embrace the idea. Trevor, the H’s younger brother is next and although his story sounds interesting, I’m checking out early. This series is just not for me.

In the shifter culture that strives to live under the radar of the human world, the Therian agents are the supernatural answer to human law enforcement. Lion shifter, Chase Payne is one of the best, pure alpha, and since she was a child, Lora Oliver has known he was her true mate. It didn’t matter that he was her older brother’s best friend, at least not to her; she was an adult now and knew who she wanted.

When Lora becomes a trainee under Chase to be a Therian agent, one bad decision l almost killed her and unburied a long held promise she made to herself. If Chase hadn’t acted so quickly, compromising his own life and freedom to save her, she wouldn’t be alive to know he would never want her and she had ruined his life. When a fascinating case hits too close to home, once again, Lora becomes a pawn in the world of shifters, power and dangerous liaisons. Love often reveals itself under dire circumstances. Is it possible that Chase, has found his match?

Chasing Payne Chantel Seabrook’s story is full of tension, a heroine who, while not equipped to be an agent, is no shrinking violet! The perfect embodiment of an alpha male, Chase is trapped between what his lion wants, discovering what he wants and loyalty to his best friend. When push came to shove, he did what any alpha would do! You have to love great writing, a twisted plot, great dialogue and one VERY alpha male! From start to finish, Chantel Seabrook has created heat, her own special world to visualize, romantic intrigue and danger, deadly danger. If you've never heard a lion's inner growl, you are going to hear it now!

I received this copy from Chantel Seabrook in exchange for my honest review.

Chase is a lion shifter, a part of the Therian agents, their job is to protect their own kind from the human world. All alpha, all male, he is one hot dominating force. Since being just a girl, Lorna has loved his best friends brother, Chase. When she joins begins to train under Chase, she makes a bad move that almost reveals a secret she has hidden. Chase is quick to put his life in danger to save her. But it won’t be the last time, she is put into a dire situation and soon Chase finds himself thinking more about the woman, then the girl he had known for so long. Is there a chance that love can transpire from the two?

My thoughts? I am not a reader who enjoys shifter stories, they are sometimes written so cheesy and unrealistic, I find myself doing more of a *eye roll*, than getting into the story. I read Cara’s Twelve by Chantel Seabrook and really enjoyed her writing so much I decided to give this book a chance and just didn’t disappoint.

Chantel crafts some amazing characters that draw you deep into the story and she gives just enough of the fantasy world to relax in without overdoing it. But it’s her writing that is amazing, it has the bit of regency in it, that captivates you. Excellent book.

I like a good shifter story, but I think this was lacking a little depth. I liked Chase okay though
lora was pretty unlikable to me, unfortunately. I found her pretty immature and just a hot mess.
Jenna...I don't know...i get it, but she sucked.
I liked jacob
and turner, he was actually a pretty interesting character-i liked him best. overall not bad, but perhaps a little frustrating.

Hot ... that's what this book is. Everything from the characterization of Chase to the inner growls of their lions to the action sequences was written to thrill.

Lora is a were with two big secrets. The first of which has her in complete turmoil because of something that happened years ago. She hurt someone close to her and that memory has ruled her actions for too long. This problem doesn't come to a head until she takes a job with the agency in charge of weres.

There she is assigned to the supervision of the object of her other secret. She has been in love with Chase since she was a young girl. It was a love that wasn't returned until now. As much as he fights it, he is suddenly drawn to a girl he has known most of his life. It's something he won't acknowledge until he faces losing it forever. It turns his entire world upside down.

I could tear my eyes from this book. The writing is easy to get into and stay in the story and the romance is free of cliches. But it isn't just a romance. The agency is like a paranormal police force and their case is exciting. Ms. Seabrook seems to know exactly what the reader wants and gives it to us in full. This is a book that leaves the reader feeling satiated - nothing is missing. I could not find a single thing wrong with it and everything right.

For the record - I'm team Turner all the way and can't wait to see his story in book 2!

This story had me hooked from page one, which rarely happens to me. Once I started reading, I didn’t want to stop. It’s been a long time since I’ve found a paranormal romance that hooked me the way this book has. It drew me in and wouldn’t let go.

I loved the push and pull between Lora and Chase. Each wanted the other, but had their own reasons for pulling away. Lora has been in love with Chase for years, though he never knew. Chase swore off taking a mate because he doesn’t want to end up broken like his father.

As luck would have it, the two are mates. But Lora has a secret. Without giving anything away, she has decided that she can’t be with Chase because of an incident that occurred years ago. But neither can deny the pull to the other. When Lora’s life hangs in the balance, Chase must make a last minute decision to save her life, but the consequences are life changing for the both of them.

What I liked most about this story was that even though it’s a paranormal shifter romance, it’s not over the top. The situations are believable. The characters are well fleshed out. There’s a perfect amount of drama, action, and sexual tension between the hero and heroine. The author kept me on edge with plenty of conflict throughout, wondering if the two will actually end up together.

This is an author whose work I will continue to follow!

When lion shifter Lora Oliver is assigned to work as a Therian agent on Chase Payne’s team, chaos ensues. She’s keeping a secret that could threaten her and her colleagues’ safety. She’s also been in love with Chase since she was a teenager and is desperate to keep her runaway emotions hidden.

The sexual tension between the two was intense and there was plenty of action and excitement to keep me turning pages. Chasing Payne ends with a satisfying HEA and one loose plot thread that I assume will come together in book two. Great read. I can’t wait to dive into the next installment.

This was my first ever book read with shifters. I have to say it was a great read and I will be looking into more of them. I absolutely loved Chase's character. The poor guy falls for his best friends sister and has to hide it for the last how many years lol Seabrook did a fantastic job of integrating shifters without overpowering the storyline with them. The leading female role follows a woman who is at odds with herself. We get to see her struggle trying to push down who she really is and hide her abilities from even herself. However, with the love and confidence of another, she is able to become who she is supposed to.

Most of this book and the characters were a solid 4 stars for me, but there is no way after reading this that I believe that Lora is supposed to be an agent for any type of LEO agency. Either that is not the job for her or they need a better training program.

Even though I liked Chase and Lora overall, I find myself more curious about Turner more than anyone else in this story. Luckily, his book is next in the series.

Wow

This book was exciting. I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book. We meet Chase and Lora who are both fighting something. She is fighting who she is. He is fighting his feelings for her. Can they finally come togther before they loose what most important.

So much stupid

I could have liked this book if the plot didn't require the characters to be so redonkulously stupid. Yet somehow they realize the stupid (mostly), without any specific additional prompting and everything resolves at the end. It just boggles the mind.

I must say, this book is unlike any other I've read!!! It doesn't fit a certain mold--it's got fantasy, action, adventure, love, sex...you name it, this book has it!!!
Lora Oliver is a lion shifter who is madly in love with a werelion who stubbornly fights back his mutual feelings for her. There is a lot of sexual tension in this book and I loved the way the author built up my suspense one plot turn at a time. There's a lot of action in the book, but I kept coming back to Lora and Chase...
The characters are well-developed, the scenes are painted well, and the story itself is just so good. I wasn't ready for it to end and I'm pretty sure there's another book coming!!!
Watch out because the opening will suck you in and the ending will leave you pacing around wanting more!!!
A great read and my first by this author. Now I'm excited to read all of her books!

Chase Payne, Lora oliver's love infatuation since childhood is her new boss.

Her draw to him has always been strong, causing her to shift into lioness form when she doesn't want to, making her unable to control her inner animal.

He knows she's off limits- she's his best friend's little sister. But when her life is in danger, he can no longer hide his feelings, doing anything and everything he can to save her.

For a novella, it's impressive how three-dimensional the characters are. It was easy to understand why they were the way that they were, and they all had depth.

The plot was entertaining, albeit a little predictable, but that didn't detract from the story.

I'm hoping to see some future books set in the same world - i really want to see Chase's brother's story.

This standalone series opener is well written and engaging. Chase Payne, a lion shifter, works for the Therian Affairs, an organization that helps protect the secrecy of shifters from the human population. Lora Oliver is also a lion shifter, a new Therian agent and his boss/
best friend's little sister. She has been assigned to his team and for the first couple of weeks he manages to give her office duty. But then he is compelled to assign her to a squad tasked to breach a facility they've determined is involved in humans spontaneously shifting. In the course of the raid, Lora is gravely injured and Chase is forced to make a decision that will either bind them together forever or cause her to hate him the rest of her life.

I thought this story was really good because it showed how the demons of the past can seriously impact the way you live your today. It depends on whether you face those demons head on or run & hide from them. The mc's were both strong in their own ways and really interacted in interesting ways with the other characters, supporting characters were great. There was a great mystery, lots of action, a scorching romance, and interesting family dynamics. There was also a sneak peek to the next book and I can't wait, it looks to be as good as this was. This author was new to me and I was impressed.

Interesting twist on the shifter lore with Metamorphs.

Chase Payne's best friend Jacob has a little sister he's always told himself was off limits. Werelion Lora Oliver is all grown up now and has joined the Therian Agent team. Lucky or unlucky for Lora, Chase is assigned as her supervisor. Things change drastically from "love you like a sister to love you" pretty quickly, especially after Lora surprises him with a kiss her first day on the job. Lora has been a love-struck teenager for Chase, and now she's a love-struck twenty-two year old in heat. But there may be a hitch in her plan to finally win Chase over when "Agent Sexy Brown Eyes," aka Austin McCaffrey, a Werejaguar shows interest in her.

Little does Lora know, that kiss has rocked Chase's world, and now Chase wants more, and it is all he can think about and the fact that Lora is his mate. Unbeknownst to Lora that she is Chase's mate, she accepts Austin's offer to attend a social event. That's when things get interesting when Lora and Austin run into Chase and his date. The green-eyed monster arrives and stays. After a horrible night, Lora finds herself mated to Chase who has never wanted a mate and certainly doesn't love her but promises her he will make it work. After recovering from her injury and steamy sex with Chase, Lora hopes things work out between them.

Meanwhile, spontaneous morphing is occurring among humans along with experimentation. Chase's younger brother Turner, believes it is the work of his nemesis, Richard Boyd, although he's supposedly dead. Turner thinks Boyd may still be alive or someone is copying his work. Turner's a bit of a loose cannon since the death of their parents so Chase is reluctant to agree with him that it could be Boyd. In the midst of the spontaneous morphing, Chase learns the team has a leak, and the primary goal is to out all shifters to the humans.

My first read by this author, and I found it enjoyable. However, it's a bit predictable there are some grammatical errors. Chase and Lora both need to mature, but not a bad tale. On my Were Scale of Hotness, 3.25 stars.

Chasing Payne (Therian Agents, #1) by Chantel Seabrook Chasing Payne (Therian Agents Book 1) By: Chantel Seabrook
Great Series Beginning...
He's been HERS for almost as long as she can remember, but because of a betrayal she's locked her feelings & her inner animal away, refusing to shift for years... Now, she can't & it's causing problems!
He's unaware of feelings, her problem, & the fact she's his MATE, until it smacks him RIGHT upside his head...
Now, things are changing all around them & they're struggling to keep up... Will they come together before danger Rips their Happiness away...
I already owned Chantel Seabrook's "Chasing Payne (Therian Agents Book 1)," but I'm reviewing on Booksprout for her; I found this book remarkably enjoyable. I'm gladly recommending it based upon its own merits. I'll definitely be looking forward to more opportunities to read Chantel's work in the future, especially this series. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given.
Until next time... Happy Reading!

Great Story

Chase Payne has his work cut out for him in this story. His best friend Jacob is his boss but his younger brother Taylor works as one of his agents along with Jacob's little sister Lora . Lora has secrets of her own such as she has lived Chase since 8 years old when he had rescued her (he was about 19 then)... She knew then he was her mate which is something she should not have been able to know at that age. This turned out to cost her and her sister a lot over the years as they kept it all secret so no one knew she needed help. Things blow up after humans start turning into animals and can't change or be changed back. The Therian Council and agents search for the cause and whoever is causing it to happen. Chase marks Lora to save her life when she is hurt on the job and is so close to death that only the mating bond has any chance to save her. One of their agents is not on their side and they don't find out till Lora has been taken. In all these crazy mix ups you still find a wonderful love story. A child finds her mate but everyone thinks she just has a crush on big adult brother's best friend. A young man doesn't believe a man can take a mate and remain strong till he is forced to face it. Each with their own fears.

Lora has known that Chase Payne was her mate since she was 9 years old. Chase only saw her as his best friend;s younger sister (11 yrs younger). Then Lora is 22 yrs old and has gotten a job with the Therian Agency. Chase is asked by her his best friend to be her supervisor.. He tries to intimidate her when she is shown into his office but she turns the table on him and after kissing him, things start to really go down hill at least to Chase. He realizes that Lora is his mate but he fights it tooth and nail because he refuses to make himself a slave to the mating instinct. Then Lora is injured on her first case and to save her Chase has to mark her and make her his mate and that is when he realizes what she is to him. Unfortunately Lora is a bit upset feeling like she is just a responsibility to him. Life begins to get very complicated.
Fantastic story and book. You;ll want to just whap Chase up alongside his head with a cast iron skillet.

A great werelion read

This was a great read. I couldn't put the book down. It was 2 am and I was fighting to stay awake to keep reading. The connection the the characters and events was strong. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Overview. Lora was teen when she found out that her mate was her brothers best friend Chase. Chase and his brother Turner lived with the family for a while when his parents died. Chase and her brother Jacob worked for the were police. She was now old enough to join the force and Chase was now her trainer. But Lora was having a hard time with his rules and kissed him. Instant heat hormones flooded Chases and he freaked. She was his mate and he couldn't accept it or deny it. He promised himself that he would never mate. But now Chase is fighting his control. But when Lora was sick, he made a choice to mate her vs die. But how will they accept it as well as her family. She refuses to be his pity mate vs real love. Will Chase see the real Lora as his mate or will he see her as a pest?

This is another case of the basics were all there and they were good but we needed more depth and detail. I don't understand the trend at the moment to come up with really original ideas but not flesh them out. I mean not all paranormal romance readers want books under 200 pages.

The concept of this book is great. LION SHIFTERS yes please, this isn't centered around your standard werewolf love triangle. The Therian agents are a group of secret shifter police and based only on this book are mostly lions (although we do meet one werejaguar) They work at keeping the shifters secret and under the radar. Problems start cropping up when humans randomly turn into shifters but are stuck in the animal form.

Lora is starting her first day at the agency and her big brother - worried about her puts her under the supervision of his best friend Chase, but Lora has been in love with Chase since forever and this soon creates its own problems.

There was nothing missing or wrong with the story and if it had been fleshed out and detailed could easily have made 5 stars.
