Harper Hall finally has everything she ever wanted. Thriving paranormal PI business? Check. At least some control over her psychic ability? Check. Smokin’ hot ex-slayer fiancé? Check.

But Harper’s plans to grab the first ordained Elvis impersonator she can find and marry Noah Riddick on the Vegas strip—sans drama—are shot to hell when her old business partner shows up and makes her an offer she can’t refuse. And if she tries? Well, let’s just say she might not live long enough to regret it.

In the course of their elopement from hell, Harper and Riddick find themselves entangled with the paranormal mafia, dodging creepy vampire ménage action, and participating in the supernatural equivalent of Fight Club. First rule of paranormal Fight Club? There are no rules. And, oh yeah, don’t die.

Seriously, what’s a girl gotta do to get her happily ever after?

Semi-Human can be read as a standalone, but works best if read as part of the Harper Hall Investigations series (Book 1: Semi-Charmed). This book is intended for mature audiences. This book is not intended for anyone who doesn’t enjoy smart, snarky heroines and dark, brooding heroes, and who doesn’t appreciate a plethora of nerdy pop culture references. For the rest of you: happy reading!

The normal:

Isabel Jordan writes because it’s the only profession that allows her to express her natural sarcasm and not be fired. She is a paranormal and contemporary romance author. Isabel lives in the US with her husband, her son son, a neurotic Shepherd mix and a ginormous Great Dane mix named Jerkface. (Don't feel bad for Jerkface. He really is a jerk.)

The weird:

Now that the normal stuff is out of the way, here’s some weird-but-true facts that would never come up in polite conversation. Isabel Jordan:

1. Is terrified of butterflies (don’t judge…it’s a real phobia called lepidopterophobia)
2. Is a lover of all things ironic (hence the butterfly on the first edition cover of Semi-Charmed)
3. Is obsessed with Supernatural, Game of Thrones, and Dog Whisperer.
4. Hates coffee. Drinks a Diet Mountain Dew every morning.
5. Will argue to the death that Pretty in Pink ended all wrong. (Seriously, she ends up with the guy who was embarrassed to be seen with her and not the nice guy who loved her all along? That would never fly in the world of romance novels.)
6. Would eat Mexican food every day, if given the choice.
7. Reads two books a week in varied genres.
8. Refers to her Kindle as “the precious”.
9. Thinks puppy breath is one of the best smells in the world.
10. Is a social media idgit. (Her husband had to explain to her last week what the point of Twitter was. She’s still a little fuzzy on what Instagram and Pinterest do.)
11. Kicks ass at Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
12. Stole her tagline idea from her son. Her tagline idea was, “Never wrong, not quite right.” She liked her son’s idea better.
13. Breaks one vacuum cleaner a year because she ignores standard maintenance procedures (Really, you’re supposed to empty the canister every time you vacuum? Does that seem excessive to anyone else?)
14. Is still mad at the WB network for cancelling Angel in 2004.
15. Can’t find her way from her bed to her bathroom without her glasses, but refused eye surgery, even when someone else offered to pay. (They lost her at “eye flap”. Seriously, look it up. Scary stuff.)

Let's start by saying that if Noah Riddick looks like the guy on the cover of this book, I now understand why Harper is so pathetically gaga over him.

This is the second book in the series and I liked it a lot more than the first. It didn't have as much lag-time where things went too slowly. Things moved very fast in this one. Again, there wasn't groundbreaking stuff, but it was fun.

Noah and Harper go to Vegas to get married and things go so downhill that they both are almost dead by the time they hit the altar. They just needed to go through kidnappings, death threats, underground fight club, and being poisoned to get there. Although, really, if you think about it, no trip to Vegas that doesn't include at least a couple of iffy moments is even worth the airfare.

A fun and sexy, sweet and exciting story about a smart, witty and kick-ass heroine, a swoony, intense and equally badass hero, their whirlwind engagement and a motley crew of loveable secondary characters that help them defeat the paranormal mafia in order to get their happy ever after.
”Who knew that eloping to Vegas would be even more dramatic than one of her family’s traditional weddings?”

Harper Hall’s version of normal is slightly different than everyone else’s. On any given day, she and her ex-slayer fiancé could find themselves following and taking down vampires in a strip club before lunch and then having dinner with her peculiar and unpredictable family. But she wouldn’t have it any other way. And now it’s only getting better because she’s eloping to Vegas with Noah. Who would have thought that a reappearance by her ex-business partner would thrust them into deadly paranormal mafia affairs?
“Her eyes promised hellfire and retribution. God, she was magnificent.”

Noah Riddick had been merely surviving until he met Harper. He’d never known love until her. Fearing he was too dangerous to be around normal humans he had alienated himself from every one. Although he’s never felt he deserved her, for Harper he would do anything. He would protect her until his last breath and control his inner demons. But will the extreme conditions and no rules fights Riddick is forced into snap his control? Will he push her away before it comes to that?

Semi-Human made me smile right from the start and straight until the very last page. Ok, maybe there were a couple of icky body dismemberment parts, but that’s par for the course when you’re reading about an awesome dynamic duo that take down paranormal baddies for a living.
“They’d kissed thousands of times, but still, every touch of his lips, his tongue, to hers was stunning in its heat and intensity.”

Harper is snarky and amusing. It’s impossible for me not to get behind a heroine that’s strong, independent and can take care of herself. Who quotes Yoda, defends Iron Man against Batman, who’s willing to dress up as a Klingon for a friend and files tax paperwork “f” for “f*ckers.”
Harper scoffed. “Well that’s just stupid… It’s totally obvious that Iron Man would win. He’s Tony Stark, for God’s sake. He’s a genius and a billionaire, and all Bruce Wayne really has going for him is a death wish and a kick-ass R&D department.”

Noah Riddick is a little less surly but so much more openly passionate and swoony than before. I felt so much for him, his struggle for control of himself, his constant dread that he wouldn’t be able to protect Harper, terror that he’d lose her. But it was beautiful how he loved her.
“Harper Hall had blown into his world like a gale-force wind, a perfect storm of life and color and heat, showing him what living was supposed to be like.”

I loved how together they were. Not just for the sexy times but through all the action and excitement throwing punches and kicking ass side by side.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever be good enough to be considered your equal, but no one will ever try harder to earn his place at your side.”

I also got my wish about getting more of Mischa and Hunter. Their relationship continues to develop while helping Harper out to get the bad guy, I reveled in every moment of it and the next book in the series can’t come fast enough for me, as it will feature them.
“Reason number eighteen,” Mischa said with all the confidence she could muster, given the stupidity of what she was about to say, “is that you’re way too tall for me. I’d get a kink in my neck every time we kissed”

I hope this series is long lived and with each new book there are more pop culture references, more of the great friendship between Mischa and Harper and that we get to know more about the other characters like Lucas who are equally appealing but a bit of mystery.
“It’s like Ocean’s Eleven, dude.”
“We’re taking down the paranormal mafia, not robbing a casino. How is that at all like Ocean’s Eleven?”
“It’s an epic caper, man, you know.”

Isabel Jordan’s fresh and snarky voice shines through. Harper and Riddick are as adorable and sexy as ever. Semi-Human is a great weekend read, perfect Halloween.

Semi-Human is book #2 in the Harper Hall Investigations series by Isabel Jordan. Told from multiple points of views with a happy ending. It includes everything you need to know in order to read it as a standalone but it’s better if you read the previous book, Semi-Charmed for full enjoyment.

Love this series! The growing group of friends is amazing.
I love how the author wrote the storyline with secondary characters becoming kind of secondary main characters who then get their own book, and so on.
Reading the series feels like reading one long book with a big group of amazing characters.

So, book one was great because it kinda had a Buffy The Vampire feel on steroids with more comedy and gore thing going for it. I really liked it, now I figured there would be a book two to this story, and here it is! I actually really liked it, I thought it was even better than the first, which was surprising because second in the series can be shaky usually. I'm not sure how Ms. Jordan did it, but I laughed even harder while reading this book. Like, it was snort inducing laughs at certain points of the story.

I love, love, love Harper because shes a smartass, and just hilarious. She just cracks me up because the things she says, I often find myself saying similar on a day to day basis. Have I found my book twin? It's a possibility, who knows. Anyway, there's a lil bit of character development for Harper but not much because shes already standing on solid ground. She doesn't need to change, she's hit her comfy spot. She's more of a manipulator and has some tough girl moments that make you proud.

As for Riddick, well that dude just has issues. Im just gonna say it, he's that really hot guy, ya know the one who's crazy that you should inch away from, but instead you give your number. Yep, that one. Now, that's not a bad thing because when you're living the lifestyle of hunting down monsters, well, you need to be scarier. Common sense there. Overall, I enjoy him as a character and really got into seeing more of his perspective in this book. It really rounded out the story well, and just gave you that dose of seriousness that Harper lacks.

The story itself is neat, it's very underground evil fight club mixed with some "oh my god" moments. You've got a strong plot, vampires, monsters, bad guys and of course some loooove. It's definitely worth a read for any urban fantasy or light PNR fan.

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Boom baby. Isabel Jordan is here to stay in book world.

If you didn’t read Semi-Charmed her debut novel, then I just feel sorry for you. Because that book is awesome and this one, the next one, a good one, a great one, Semi-Human is just as good, awesome, fantastic, hilarious, perfect Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance as the first one.

Harper Hall is baaaack and so is Riddick, thank you thank you thank you!!! *jazz hands and happy book dance where I look like a weirdo 'cuz I'm all alone doing a happy book dance!*

What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas the way the saying oh so haughtily claims and Semi-Human proves it and does it with verve, humor and awesome writing.

Harper is her awesome, funny, witty, head strong and well. . .charmed self. I love this heroine, she is so fantastically written that it makes me want to meet Isabel Jordan because there is no way a dull person could create such a fantastic character. I also want to come up with some magical way to make book characters real because I want to be friends with Harper. Seriously. She's awesome.

The snark, the humor, the sarcasm, the love. This is a well rounded, well written novel and an awesome progression for the series. Oh, and did I mention Fight Club? Because there is underground supernatural fight club happening in this book in which Riddick gets to kick some serious ass and meet up with his past. *waggles eyebrows like a muppet with hair* His past is some crazysauce of crazy.

Ah! I’m incoherent and this review is a crazy mess. . .

It’s because I’m fangirling and I’m fangirling hard.

I love Riddick. I love his crazy darkness. I love how he loves Harper. I love how Harper loves him. I love how they meet each other in his darkness and Harper just plows right through ignoring his muttering bringining sass and light and love into his life. And I love that Riddick in turn, well. . .Harper is a bad ass in her own way and even though he’s protective of her I never feel like he is stifiling her so, yeah, girl power.

Okay, I’ve rambled and it’s a mess of a review. . .just go read this book. As the synopsis says you can read it as a standalone, but I really hope you don’t, I hope you go and read Semi-Charmed and then definitely come back and read Semi-Human. I guarantee you’ll get why I’m a floundering book blogger right now, and you’ll love these characters and the writing as much as I do.

An enjoyable second instalment where we see kickass PI Harper and her ferocious boyfriend Noah Riddick (referred to as Riddick). I really like these two together, and Riddick (sigh) – l adore how he sees, treats and thinks of Harper.

The start of this book was very entertaining and had me amused, and the action had me engaged – both Harper and Riddick can more than take are of themselves and each other. When the two decide to elope to Vegas well things don’t exactly go to plan. Romeo, Harper’s terrible ex-business partner, causes more than a little trouble for the two, when he decides to drop them in the middle of his mess.

Add to that Riddick’s makes more than a passing appearance in this book – and it’s not a welcome one, luckily Harper has Riddick’s back. Fortunately, none of the craziness (like kidnappings, underground fight club, the mafia etc) stop Harper and Riddick from and Riddick finally gets to know what Harper’s original name was.

I did lose interest in the middle for a short while but then events had me keenly reading again.

I’m looking forward to getting around to Mischa (Harper’s best-friend) and Hunter’s book. Although I do hope Hunter stops with the Princess Bride line (I don’t know why but that movie and that line sets my teeth on edge).

Five Fantastic Stars!

I loved the first book in the series and this one was even better! Harper is smart-mouthed and kick-ass, with beauty, brains and a heart of gold. And Noah is gorgeous, lethal and so romantic. Hunter & Mischa are great too. I loved every page of this book - it was laugh-out-loud funny, with heart-warming romance, edge-of-your-seat action and absolute delight to read.

Merged review:

This is a re-read for me and just as thrilling as the first read. Love, love, love the characters - Riddick, Harper, Mischa & Hunter. So much humour, action and a great story to boot. It was fascinating to learn about Riddick's past and his family. And Harper is so much more than a pretty face - she is also sweet, intelligent and kick-ass. And what a heart-stopping ending! Now on to the next book - Mischa & Hunter's story.

I really loved this book. I giggled, I cried and yelled at my kindle!
I was hooked by the first sentence:
"Harper Hall never thought she would receive a marriage proposal while straddling a vampire stripper on the floor of the Kitty Kat Palace."
Like all sequels I was concerned that the relationship between the heroine and the hero would be boring now that they were together (not a spoiler if you have read book 1)
but it wasn't! The chemistry between all the key players in the book was spot on.
AND OMG....that elevator scene!
wow!
If you are fan of urban fantasy and paranormal genre read this book. But start with book 1 so that you can enjoy the full impact of the awesome characters!
Bravo Ms Jordan! Bravo!

I had the honor of getting an ARC of Semi Human and I have to say I loved it just as much, if not more, than Semi Charmed! Semi Human continues the story of Riddick and Harper (I love her..lol), as they find themselves coerced into "helping" Harper's ex-partner. Their lives on the line, and Riddick has to release his inner demons to save them. Problem is- He likes it.

I love the writing in these books. Ms. Jordan's use of humor never fails to make me giggle, I wish her heroine was my friend, and her hero's are HOT.

Also, we hear quite a bit more about Mischa and Hunter. I have two words- Elevator scene.*sigh* And that's all I'm saying.

Bravo!

Actually liked this book 2 in the series more than book one. More action. More depth to Riddick. The romance was hot, and I was shipping hard for them to make it to the altar as it was way obvious these two completed each other. More laughs. Liked the switch to a Vegas setting, which got even better when all the secondary characters caught up to our MC's.
Loads of zinging dialogue. Fun set-ups. Excellent characters and supporting cast. Tension. Nice pay off at the end of the book on the HEA front.

I like it when you can tell an author loves their own characters- and clearly IJ loves Harper - she's funny, layered, flawed and relatable. She's also determined and kick ass. Just what I like in my heroines.

Excellent follow up in this series. Harper, our h, remains the true star of this read, but we get more of Riddick's thoughts/fears/hopes in book 2, which added depth and layers to their romance.
The action shifts to Vegas, and Harper's posse eventually catches up to play back up. I enjoyed the secondary tale of Mischa and Hunter hooking up.
Action, romance and a great h, in Harper, who is funny, tenacious and refuses to let Riddick get away with all his angsty bullcrap - and he is clearly a better man with her in his life. Light and fun, exactly what I needed.

2.5 stars.

Engaging writing, frustrating premise. Had I known the inciting incident of this book, I would have stuck to the blurb and skipped this one. Having said that, the plot was mostly well developed, the multiple povs were nice, and I'm finding myself looking forward to what else this author will write. I'm not sure, however, if I will continue with this series. I don't particularly like the MCs of the next book all that much, but we'll see.

Another great story

Harper Hall is an awesome heroine. She is smart ,sassy and kicks butt. She's also not afraid to ask for help. This book was a great continuation of Harper and Riddick's story. I can't wait to find out what happens in future stories.

Start with the first book in the series,"Semi-charmed". You will not be disappointed!

This series is just fun so far. I enjoy the humor that's built into it. Harper is kickass as a heroine which I truly appreciate. She's always going to take care of herself even when she's got a badass like Noah Riddick as her partner. This time they're running off to Vegas to get married when obviously everything goes to hell quickly. Harper's ex business partner is kind of a dick. He's in trouble and his solution is to kidnap Harper and force her and Riddick into fixing it for him.

This was pretty action packed from the beginning. There's still a bit of angst amidst the humor as Harper and Riddick are still learning how to be a couple when dangers in the area. Noah's super protective and Harper's always going to be in a little bit of danger. I appreciated though how this story moved their relationship along and we learned a lot more about Noah's background, a bunch of things that even he didn't know.

This was a fun story and I'll definitely keep reading the series.

Book two is as good as book one

I liked this book although I don’t get why Romeo got a free pass. Harper and Noah are going to get married in Vegas but there is a small hiccup that grows larger with time. Romeo has got some ‘splaining and apologizing to do. Hunter and Mischa’s story was inevitable and predictable but I still liked this. I’m ready for the next book in the series.

Eh, an okay read. **SPOILERS"

Two things things bug me about this story. Unbelievable. Harper gets "poisoned" and blackmailed into using Riddick, yet quickly forgives Romeo for it. I have an easier time believing in vampires than that. The other thing that bugs me is Harper puts a listening device on Riddick during a conversation he asked her not to go to. She lets Romeo hear it and then proceeds to tell everyone else his business. The whole "Harper knows best" vibe was just too much for me. Not enough to keep me from reading the next book, just really annoying. But I'm picky about female leads that know everything and ignore those around her.

Second time around I noticed how much of a butthead Mischa was more and now that there is the next book I'm sort of on the fence on whether or not I will read it. I really enjoyed the other parts of the story though. I really love the partnership between Harper and Riddick.
***3/27/17

Allot of the time I will set a sleep timer for my phone while I'm listening to a book that usually goes off after 30 mins and turns everything off for me. (Nothing more irritating than falling asleep while listening to a book, waking up and finding out that the book you were 23% done with is now 100% and you have to find out where you left off. Well I made the mistake of picking this book to listen to before bed ... I gave up and stopped resetting my sleep timer after the 4th time and stayed up all night finishing the book instead.

Ahhh such an entertaining read. The characters aren't perfect yet, (Mischa thoughts about herself and Hunter made me want to smack her.) but this is only the 2nd book so far and as it is now I really like all of the characters. Harper, well, she just makes me laugh most of the time. I also find her picture of the dhampir pretty interesting, I won’t say much about it since I think it would be a spoiler. Let’s just say the end of the book is pretty dang interesting with its revelations and outcomes. I look forward to book three to see how things evolve regarding Hunter and Mischa (hopefully her insecurities and stubbornness don’t last too long since the next book sounds to be about her and Hunter.)
I sometimes get the idea that things are familiar in a way, but they are in a comfortable way, (for now if that makes any sense) and I’m enjoying Ms. Jordan’s sense of humor and spin on some well-known tropes. So far both of the books in the series have been quick and entertaining reads.

Everything I loved about the first book is present in this one. I love Harper - she is so darn likable, and funny, and I like how she is sort of kind and perky then if you make her mad she kind of snaps and attacks. I love the relationship between brooding slayer Noah and upbeat, cheery Harper. These books are light, silly fun and I love them because they make me laugh. I am less certain about the next book which will be Hunter & Mischa's story because while i like Mischa fine as a secondary character I don't like her enough (especially because of how she is jerking Hunter around) to want her to be the focus of the book, especially when we could have

I am so happy I decided to read this series. I couldn't stop reading till the end. I am so sad that their story has ended. I really enjoyed reading about Harper and Riddick. They might just be my favorite paranormal couple. Harper is hilarious! I love how witty and sarcastic she is. She is such a great heroine. And where do I start with Riddick, he was such a protective sexy alpha male. I really liked and enjoyed Isabel Jordan's paranormal world. I liked how vampires and shifters were portrayed. I can not wait to see what Mrs. Jordan will bring for us next especially if it involves Mischa and Hunter.

She's done it again

I loved this author's first book and this one was just as good. The characters are so likable and well developed. I love Harpers sense of humor while kicking butt and taking names. It's also nice to not have the hero and heroine be at odds. They are devoted to each other and that doesn't take away from the story. The plot was compelling and I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next one!

Ah Harper you see just too funny

I find Harper's sense of humor funny and witty. Her and Riddick make a great couple. This book good through many changes for the characters. I really enjoy the collection of characters find in this novel. I wish the author would make a love interest for Lucas. I really like him and want him to be happy. I am looking forward to the next book and Mischa's and Hunter's relationship.

Funny, romantic and adventurous!

I loved the first book in this duo and I think this one was even better! Harper and Riddick are back and making the ultimate commitment but decide to go to Vegas. While there, Harper's old partner shows up and the rest is chaos! Harper's wit and the sarcastic dialogue will keep you smiling the whole time. The ending was great and I can't wait for hunter and Misha's book.

Excellent Read

Harper is one of my heroines! She's sassy, saucy, creative and all with a side of sarcasm that sends bad guys running for the hills and some of the good ones too. She's literally neck deep when her ex-partner shows up and puts her and Riddick in the middle of an underground fighting ring. Mob bosses, crazy scientists and a world of hurt are awaiting. Fantastic read.

I really enjoyed this book!!

Great characters and great storyline. Although I understand Mischa's and Hunter's story is next; it is going to have to be a fantastic one because I'm really not liking Mischa right now. She seems to be going out of her way to sabotage their relationship and doesn't seem to recognize it. That is one point that I am looking to see how that happens in the next story. If she doesn't; then the book won't work for me.

Love it

I have a totally obsessive love of paranormal-romantic- thriller- mystery-adventures. Semi-Human, the second book in the series, does a fabulous job of continuing the stories of Harper and Riddick, a psychic and "other", respectively, as well as the rest of their misfit squad. This book is perfect escapism: well-written without glaring grammatical errors that drive me crazy, a non-formula type plot to keep things interesting, and characters with depth.

If you’re looking for pure escapist fun that doesn’t take itself too seriously with a cool heroine and a hot hero, then don’t bother finishing this review. Just buy the book. But don’t read it in public because there are parts that are snort-laugh inducing (and no one looks hot while snort-laughing).
