Eliza Montrose lives an unorthodox life. backpacking through Europe with a string bass, Audrey, on her back. She plays her doghouse bass in jazz clubs in every port in her wanderings, she doesn't need anyone but herself and her Audry.
On the last leg of her journey, she finds herself in London to try to get a chance to play in the last two venues on her list before going back to the lonesome life she left behind in Seattle all those years ago.
She resorts to some creative financing whenever funds get low. She never would have believed how her life would change when she accidentally pickpockets the wrong person... June Harris-West.
In her attempt to get back something taken from her by the elusive Scratch, Eliza finds herself falling for the last person she would have believed. A person that was so contrary and frustratingly annoying to her, the person she dubs the gatekeeper, who keeps her away from her goal.

There is something in the way of Erik's storytelling that captivates me every time. The characters are charming, lovable and special in their own way. Loved this newest tale and am anxiously awaiting the story of Zil. As always keep them coming and good job.
Like this one's Jazz influence. Is it just me or is the fret-less bass disappearing in our lives? As usual, Erik pulls the heart apart a bit and puts it back together and makes it all better.
Humpth - not sure how a tea-leaf can be a heroine & I didn't really buy the character & as for the ending = WTF?? Just creeps in at 4 stars.... disappointing.
"Sometimes I feel like a passenger in my own life. Or a mushroom. Kept in the dark and fed a lot of shit. It was almost like there was a game afoot and I didn't know all the players or rules."
Doghouse felt a little weaker compared to the rest of the series. I didn't really feel connected to Liza, her character seemed plain and dull. This didn't have that certain something to make it stand-out to the rest of the series. Amy, was cute and nice and her connection with Liza was sweet and cute but there wasn't a spark, the same spark I found in the majority of the author's novels that made my knees weak. The conflict was also shallow and my head could've fallen off from being shaken too much.
It probably says something when my favorite scenes were those centered around or have the apperances of the rest of the gang. I am starting to like June/Nessie more and will definitely want to read more from them and Small Fry's "boo"? Sold.
I guess this was a cute story, one that wouldn't make you think too much and just chill. It’s not a terrible book but definitely not as remarkable as the rest of Erik's writings and I really his books but so far this is my least favourite read from him.
I gone and made quite a huge leap from "Music of the Soul" to "London Harmony: Doghouse". There are multiple names that were lost on me. I didn't recognize quite a lot of the characters in here. It just make me want to go back and read the rest. In fact, this book is my first one that I read in the "London Harmony" section. I didn't even finished "Music of the Soul" series yet. I have a habit of not follow any orderly fashion. I simply read whichever book with an interesting description. This one is one of them. One thing I particularly noticed about the author's work is that all of the main characters and their love interests somehow related to one another. It makes me think "What a small world this is". As it is harder to turn it into a standalone the more references there are.
I particularly love it when the epilogue switches the character's perspective. It's great to see two different POVs when there is a romance between two people.
I love everything Erik Schubach has ever written. I love meeting new characters while catching glimpses of familiar names from previous books. Please get more of your books on audio. Truck drivers all over the world appreciate listening to your books while we drive.
I find each book in this series to just make me happy. I suggest for readers to start in the beginning and get to know all of these great characters! Happy reading!
As soon as I discovered the Audible release of Doghouse, I snached it up. I have been waiting for the next installment of the London Harmony to come out on Audible. *Spoiler Alert: It takes five chapters for the platypus to make it's monotremeness known. I did have a little problem with the characters in this story. When the misunderstanding happens, the reactions were a bit extreme. I felt that Eliza was treated rather badly when she had done nothing wrong. I understand the protectiveness of friends but even after the explanation was out, Eliza still had to earn trust that she had not even broken. her only real crime was the pick pocket and that was not even a real issue between her and the cowboy obsessed gatekeeper. Other than that a sweet story with a nice ending.
I hope the rest of the original Music of the Souls series is slated to come out on Audible soon...
