Nocturne Falls #4

The Professor Woos the Witch

Rate this book
Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.

Pandora Williams is Nocturne Falls’ most successful real estate agent. And least successful witch. Her magic never has the intended outcome, but she’s learned to live with that. Mostly. Yes, it sucks, but what can she do? Then a hot new neighbor shows up and suddenly her magic works. Very cool, but very suspect. Especially since he’s a total non-believer.

Cole Van Zant likes practicality and absolutes. Things he can see and touch. So not magic. But when his teenage daughter insists she’s a witch—and they’re now living in a town that celebrates Halloween every day—he needs help. Of the witchy variety. Thankfully, his sexy neighbor buys into all that hocus pocus.

Enlisting her help seems like a great idea until spending time together reveals a supernatural surprise about who Cole really is. A secret even he didn’t know. Could Pandora and Cole really be meant for one another or is their attraction too much to believe?

The Professor Woos The Witch is the fourth in the Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter. This is a sweet and fun series. I love the concept of a town celebrating Halloween 365 days a year where it’s paranormal creatures can be themselves.

This is a slow burn romance. I like that it’s not insta-love like the previous installments. Cole and Pandora have an intense attraction, but they have an uncertainty on whether to pursue it. I liked how their relationship came about.

Cole is the sexy smart college professor with a teenage daughter. He’s been having issues with his daughter; because she believes she’s a witch and he doesn’t believe in anything paranormal. He’s a muggle!! ^_^ Oh boy does he get a surprise when he moves to Nocturne Falls. He also finds out some family secrets and so, his life is about to get complicated and confusing.

Pandora is a witch with broken wonky magics. She’s also the local real estate agent. She wasn’t expecting to fall in love with the Van Zant’s family, but she did. She’s sweet, kind, and takes on educate Cole on the paranormal element for himself and his daughter. I really love the William’s family. Pandora’s mother and sisters are too much fun. They brought another element to the story that added to my enjoyment.

Now it’s not all happiness. Cole’s ex-wife shows up and adds some drama and issues to the equation. She’s defiantly a problem.

The Professor Woos The Witch is my favorite so, far in the series. I liked the sweet slow burn romance and heartfelt moments.

Once again, a good addition to the Noturne Falls series!

This book had more of a slow burn romance then the first three. There wasn’t instalove but more of an intense attraction and uncertainty on whether to pursue it. I really enjoyed how the relationship between Pandora and Cole came about.

Cole Van Zant, a smart, college math professor inherits a house in Nocturne Falls, moves there to remodel and then sell. He’s having issues with his daughter because she believes she’s a witch and he doesn’t believe in anything paranormal. Cole’s a freaking muggle! He's going to be super surprised when he gets to know this Halloween town. He also will find out about the secret family history on the house and his ancestry. His life is about to get really complicated and confusing.

Pandora Williams is a real estate agent that’s also a witch. Her magic is wonky so she’s not the best witch out there but damn is she a great real estate agent and wonderful person. Her Mom and sisters were a nice touch to the book. I really enjoyed the family dynamics of the Williams' witches.

I really liked the characters and Cole’s ex-wife was a good character to despise. She's definitely going to cause some problems. Read more to find out!

This was a very sweet, heartwarming and fun romance to add to the series!

I love reading this book right before I go to sleep. It knocks me right out – not because it’s boring – but because it’s innocent and cheesy (so, so verrry cheesy) and makes me feel comforted. I’m also a sucker for Halloween-themed books.

Admittedly, my childish heart would love to live in a Halloween-themed town like this one. It’s incredibly silly and innocent and cute – I can’t resist.

I like how this book shows a male character who's "normal" (at first glance anyway) and he becomes accustomed to this quirky town and the magical creatures in it. I also love that there's a sweet father/daughter relationship. There are some touching moments there.

I adore the protagonist, Pandora. She's very straight-forward and she’s not afraid to argue and say what she wants. I also like that when there is a problem or confusion, she goes straight to the source. She’s overall super cool and understanding.

This book is not my favorite of the series, but I’m giving 4 stars for good, comforting vibes and being a fun break from crazy, angsty books. If you’re looking to take a break from all of your other angsty, complex books: Here is a simple, cheese-filled, cutesie-paranormal series for you~~

One of the disadvantages of a romance book is that it is a character driven genre (also one of the advantages), since you kind of need to like the main characters to be able to enjoy the book. And, quite frankly, for many reasons I did not like Cole. He came off as a judgmental, pushy, asshole too much of the time.

I realize there was magic in the air, so to speak (literal or otherwise) but his inability to take no, his pushiness towards Pandora was frankly creepy. Every once in a while he'd suddenly be all 'oh, I have a daughter, she's my number one priority, I must think of her first when thinking of romantic relationships' (the impact on her and the like) - most of the time, though, he wouldn't stop touching, kissing, and being too close to Pandora - regardless of whether his daughter was in the room or not. If he wasn't exactly Pandora's type, if she didn't lust over him - his actions would be highlighted even more obviously as creepy.

I mean, the guy literally kept just turning up on her porch - even when he knew she wanted space. 'It's not creepy at all that I'm just hanging out on your porch while you're not around.' And/or just turning up with food without first checking to see if turning up with food would be okay or creepy. Heck, that's even mentioned by him and others as one of the 'creepy' signs that his ex-wife was evil.

Right - didn't like Cole. Made reading the book super hard. The end.

If I had to round up what I felt reading this: Happy-fussy would be the word.
This is entertaining, well written and absolutely feel-good PNR.

While I was reading two things struck me:
First: I adore the world of Nocturne Falls. Somehow Painter manages to create an awesome world, even though this feel light on the world building side. Each book in the series added new details- awesome little insights to different things- but each book would actually work as a stand alone. And each book has good world building. But put them together and the entire thing becomes amazing. Seriously, it's brilliant.

The second: Painter is a master of slow burn romance. While it becomes very clear that the love match is going to go for the HEA pretty fast- I mean hello? this is a lighthearted fun feel- good romance after all - they sorta decided to take it slow. And the chemistry is just off the charts. It reminded me of the romance in Cresent City. Not because there are any similarities in the plot mind you, but simply because the chemistry is written beyond well.

The plot is to a huge part what I expected. And then, Painter threw in a little twist, which really surprised me. I did expect some parts- but the others not at all. The story line is well paced and really entertaining.

The writing is great. I mean I expected that. But again, I am in total awe of Painters knowledge of her craft. It's wonderful to see where she shines best- which in my opinion is character building and world building. I love that this is a really light hearted cute series. Which stand in total contrast to Cresent City, which was heavier and deliciously gritty and dark.

This just like all the other books in the series is definitely character driven. And I absolutely love the character building. Each and every time I read one of these it's like visiting friends. It's amazing to see Stanhill, as example from Pandora's POV.
Pandora and Cole were probably the most realistic couple- well when it comes to their approach to each other. Take the paranormal bits away and they would make a great real life couple. It might be the least conventional romance of the series, but it is in my opinion one of the sweetest and dearest to my heart.
A side note- I adore Pumpkin! Painter even does awesome character building for pet!

Another good PNR! And all I could think when I finished? When is the next one coming out? Will there be a book for Sebastian? (And basically every other character that appears in the series and hasn't been matched yet! )
The good news is there will be another book: The Vampire’s Fake Fiancée
The bad news: Expected publication date is February 2016

Until then though one could always read about Stanhill and Corette in The Spell Of The Ball - a short story to tie us over until then I guess ;)

Pandora gets her own cute little story.

I was really excited to finally read about Pandora’s story. I enjoyed her quick glimpse in Book One of the series and so I had high expectations for this one. Were my expectations met – sort of but I just didn’t feel like Cole was a good fit for Pandora.

The story heads down a very predictable path with the love story and the villain but I admit Kristen Painter throws in a little twist with the villain’s actions that was good. I like the story mainly because Pandora is awesome with everyone. Her relationships with her family, Kaley, Ivan and the rest of the Nocturne Falls citizens really made me smile in this book. I was so glad that this book took place only in Nocturne Falls – you can’t beat this location when it comes to these books.

My biggest issue was that Cole was an ass who basically flipped a switch overnight to no longer being an ass – it was a little jarring and didn’t quite ring true to his initial introduction. My biggest highlight was actually Cole’s daughter Kaley who is an integral part of the story but is hardly mentioned in the book synopsis. I was worried she was going to be the standard rude, disrespectful and angry teenager I read about in a lot of books but she isn’t. Her growth and relationships in the story are very well done.

BJ Harrison can do no wrong with this series. I love him as a narrator.

So far, this has been the weakest story of the Nocturne Falls series, which does not mean it was not entertaining or relaxing.

The usual and -so far it seems- successful ingredients were there:
- likeable MCs (though I did not take a great shine to the hero in this one)
- quirky Halloween-town for supernaturals
- the delightful bunch of secondary supernatural characters from werewolves to faes
- good romance with some interesting background.

The usual insta-love trope is also there, but I am over that by now.

Also, Kristen Painter and the narrator, B.J. Harrison, has really been doing a great job with all 4 books so far. I very much enjoy his style.

The Professor Woos the Witch by Kristen Painter

Nocturne Falls is a town where Halloween is celebrated year round. For the tourists. In reality, the non human population use the premise of Halloween so they can hide in plain sight.
What fun to know there are vampires, witches, werewolves, gargoyles and others walking around casually on the street! Doesn't it make you wonder if maybe???

This book is the 4th in the fun series. I'm having a blast reading them. This one includes a witch whose powers aren't all that great and a human familiar. Creative. And I love that family is so important to everyone in the town. They care. That's so nice.
Read this book for a funny, romping non Halloween.

Cole Van Zant has inherited a house in Nocturne Falls that needs quite a bit of fixing up. His daughter, Kalay, thinks she is a witch, so is happy to find that witches are not uncommon here. Pandora Williams is glad to have the potential sale of the mansion as her commission but can't quite believe how much of a muggle Cole is.

Two short excerpts that show the humor of the writing, and life twists that can happen when love enters your life.

“[the dragon shifter had] become almost like an older brother to her, which was fine, because he certainly wasn’t her type romantically.
Sadly, Cole was. The giant poophead.”
Excerpt From: Painter, Kristen. “The Professor Woos The Witch"

“Never in his life had the impending visit of a woman given Cole the kind of jittery buzz he was currently experiencing. He’d been to the front door twice to look for Pandora’s car. Actually, three times considering this recent trip. But the driveway remained empty.
“Dad, what are you doing?”
Cole jerked back. “Nothing.”
Kaley grinned. “You’re looking for Miss Williams.”
“So?”
“Good comeback.”
Excerpt From: Painter, Kristen. “The Professor Woos The Witch"

I am not sure how to start this review. It is obvious that Kristen Painter has hit a sweet spot with her readers with this popular series. My problems is trying to not let my bias of wanting violence, revenge and lusty babes (well maybe there is a touch of lusty babes) show or influence my review.

This 4th book in the series had a bit different feel for me than the last couple and while it was entertaining it did not have the bit of serious edge they did, this was more of a light romance a side of interpersonal relationship with a dash of humor. Pandora and Cole were a good match but the hot and cold nature of the relationship wore thin a bit but it kinda had to be that way since there was a 13 year old daughter hanging around most of the time. No instalove here but it does move kinda fast after a rocky start.

This is basically a PG rated series that might slide over towards R at times but for the most part is it a "feel good" series of good stories with great endings. The covers give them an air of being a lot less serious than they are but they are fun and enjoyable. The fact you get to see the characters from the other books from time to time in these books is an added benefit IMHO. They don't just get a HEA and wander off into the sunset like I have seen other romantic based series do at times.

So with this one you get good witch, evil witch, disbelieving professor hero and his daughter plus good witch's family who all work together to make this a really good story to read before bed and while not quite as much "can't put it down" as books 2 & 3 it was far from forgettable or boring.

Bottom Line: Great entertainment, likable characters, interesting storyline and an easy 4 Star rating. Almost every book has an evildoer than deserves a much harsher punishment but I am a confirmed "revenge junkie" so I have a very biased opinion on payback :) Highly recommended and almost a guarantee of enjoyment.

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review, I was in no way compensated for this review.

So when Kristen Painter dropped me an email and asked if I wanted a review copy of The Professor Woos the Witch, I pretty much abandoned my reading queue schedule and dove into this book as soon as I finished my current read, because yeah...still can't stop in the middle of a book yet! LOL! And what a read it was! I adore returning to Nocturne Falls! It's seriously one of my favorite literary worlds to visit, like right up there with Hogwarts! I enjoy it THAT much! I seriously want my own supernatural boyfriend and live happily ever after in this town! Ah...living the dream!

Anyways...The Professor Woos the Witch is the story that focuses on Pandora, the witch/real estate agent. Except the only successful magic she is able to reign is in selling houses. Her soon to be love of her life (not a spoiler since this is a paranormal romance!) is Cole Van Zant, a total nonbeliever in all things paranormal. Why move to Nocturne Falls, you ask? Well, he inherits a huge mansion that belonged to a distant relative, and being a college professor, he has summers off. So he takes a sabbatical to Nocturne Falls to fix the house up, because he also knows a thing or two about construction jobs. Accompanying him is his 13-year-old daughter who believes she's a witch. And Nocturne Falls is basically, calling to her!

Cole, as I said, is a nonbeliever, but when Pandora spins into his life, he starts to accept that maybe there is some truth to the magical claims. Especially when they tie into his life more than he initially thought, what with having a daughter believes she's a witch.

While trying to fight their growing attraction to one another, Cole and Pandora work out a deal of sorts. Pandora can list the house and help out with the renovations to be made, if she helps Cole's daughter out with her burgeoning powers. Naturally, sparks start to fly between the two. And there's a definite magic in the air (hee hee. Sorry, couldn't resist! And it fits too!)!

But like with all calm, pleasant moments in the story, there's a storm to come. And it comes in the form of Cole's ex-wife and mother of his daughter.

This was yet another can't put it down for anything kind of read! It's fast paced and quirky. I seriously love this town of Nocturne Falls! All the characters are so wonderful and personable. We're always seeing past main characters from the previous books and I loved that! Still can't wait to hopefully see Hugh's brothers get a turn with a happy ending! One brother is a recluse who's been burned before, the other is sort of a playboy. So seeing them find the right woman is going to be a delightful story!!

Besides having a swoony romance, that while is a little bit insta love, it still has a slow burn to it! The two have the insta-attraction down pat, but it's nowhere near a closed case of happily ever after, after that! There's still hurdles these two will have to overcome! And really, who doesn't want to see that?! There's plenty of intense moments too, I mean, his ex-wife who pretty much disappeared from his life after the divorce walks back into his life at the drop of a hat...so something's up there! And the mystery that builds from that was quite surprising!

Nocturne Falls is seriously one of the best paranormal romance series I've ever read! It's a fun little town where Halloween is celebrated every day! And the characters are just so remarkable! They all seem to have this really tight bond with one another...and it's just awesome! We see some new names popping up in this installment, so keep a weather eye out on them, for they might be seen again sooner than you think!

And as always, I just wanted to mention again the incredibleness of this series! It's truly amazing and undeniably fun! You also don't "need" to read the books in order, as each one will standalone, but if you happen to read out of order, you will be slightly spoiled with the past couple's outcomes. But again, we pretty much know with paranormal romances that everyone lives happily ever after! Especially in a standalone. But you still get to have the enjoyment of reading how they get there, and believe me, you will not want to miss out on any of these stories!!

3.5 Stars. I am binging this series after completing the Jayne Frost series by this author. Part way into that series, I discovered that it was a spin off of this series and since it is the same town and many of the characters overlap in each of the books, I decided that I needed to read each of their stories as well. I am absolutely loving this series, but because I loved the prior books so much, even though I really liked this book, I am only rating as 3-3.5 stars. That is nothing against this book, I am just rating the books in the series against each other at this point.

The Professor Woos the Witch is book 4 of the Nocture Falls series. In this book, Pandora, a witch with broken magic, meets Cole and his 13 year old daughter Kaley. Kaley knows she is a witch and just coming into her powers but her father believes himself and her fully human and doesn't believe in the supernatural. Kaley and Pandora make fast friends because they bond over being witches. But then something is discovered with Cole and it seems like he and Pandora have a connection. Of course, no Nocturne Falls book would be complete without some sort of trouble.

The narration is really good. It is the same narrator for the entire series so luckily I like his voices. I'm thankful that the narrator reads both male and female voices equally well.

I'm starting the in between novella, book 4.5, now.

Math professor Cole Van Zant has been raised to not believe in the supernatural, so when his daughter tells him she's a witch (so says her mother, his ex-wife), he doesn't believe her. Unfortunately, they've just inherited a house in Nocturne Falls, Georgia, where most of the residents are supernaturals, including his witchy realtor neighbor, Pandora Williams. But Cole's family has been keeping big secrets from him, and that puts him, Kaley, and Pandora in danger.

Yes, Kristin Painter has a lot of books with evil exes (though honestly, this book has the worst one of all). The rest of the book is great. I love Kaley, and Cole's great-aunt's ghost in the attic. The characters are what makes this series to good, and this book has wonderful characters.

It's been a while since I listened to the first three books in this series but I have Audible escape once again and this audiobook is the first one I wanted to read. Turns out, I still enjoy these books. However, I feel like I loved the first three books a bit more. Maybe because I don't love the trope used in this . The ghost and the fat cat were probably the best part in this book ahah.

Overall not a new favorite but a quick enjoyable love story in an interesting world. I'll read the next book for sure.

What do you get when a normie moves into town to rehab his uncle's mansion and meets up with a witch who just happens to be that town's best real estate agent?

A sweet little love story.

This is the 4th book in the Nocturne Falls series and Painter continues to deliver with her slightly-to-the-left-of-center cast of characters. None of these books will be the next great American novel, but they are definitely fun to read.

Nocturne Falls is a town that celebrates Halloween year-round inviting tourists that revel in the thrills and pageantry of the ongoing celebration. Only the residents know that everyone in town isn't wearing a costume and that the town is populated by true ghouls and scaries!

When I need a light-hearted, often funny romance with just a touch a drama and thrills, this series fits the bill. Plus, it's perfect for the season. Happy Hallo-reading!

The Professor Woos the Witch is about resident real estate agent, Pandora and new resident, Cole. Their first meeting doesn’t go well, neither does the next couple. Butting heads at every turn, it is frustrating for both of them when they can’t seem to forget about the other. Add in a teenage daughter who falls in love with Pandora and newly discovered paranormal abilities, and this one was sweet, funny and another fantastic story. I loved seeing these two people succumb to their feelings and fall in love. A must read for fans of this series.

2019 bk. 334. Witches abound in this book, along with a new type of paranormal (well, new to my awareness), the human familiar. Turns out human familiar's are quite rare, and some not so good witches desire them and wish to enslave them, including the Professor's former wife. There is a little convoluted backstory, a well written 13 year old, and house remodeling involved. It all makes for an enjoyable read on a cold day.

Fourth in the Nocturne Falls magical realism fantasy series and revolving around a small town in Georgia that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year, the better for everyone to blend in. The couple focus is on Pandora Williams and Professor Col Van Zant...and his daughter.

My Take
In previous stories in the Nocturne Falls series, we've mingled with more of the townspeople, whereas in The Professor Woos the Witch, the focus is on the witches. It makes sense since this is a story about witches . . . and the people who don't believe. You could say it's a tale about characters with some action.

Poor Cole. He's all about logic, practicality, absolute truths — essentials in math and construction. Witchcraft? No, just no. That's a no to those visions of his as well.

It doesn't take long before Pandora climbs down Cole's throat, lol. Even as she makes a deal with him: She gets the listing for the house, and she'll help him with his kid. A good thing since Pandora is a witch and typical of the townsfolk. What makes it more fun is the use of third person dual protagonist point-of-view from Pandora's and Cole's perspectives.

Turns out Pandora's character arc is revealed in The Professor Woos the Witch. Yeah, I know, Painter has been teasing us with dribs and drabs since the start, but this is where she expands on it and tidies it up. It's something of a sad commentary about people. Fortunately, the series is more typical of most families and their interactions, just cozier and friendlier.

I do like Pandora's comment that Dad should let Kaley be a kid! Poor Dad, it's Kaley needing a mentor that finds him at the Williamses' Saturday night family dinner where he discovers the joys of a large family.

I do have to reveal that I absolute adore renovating houses, so I'm probably, ahem, prejudiced toward loving this story. Okay, my prejudice extends to warm and cozy towns where the neighbors are friendly and supportive. I'd like to put a vote in for the Ellinghams too. They're interested in Nocturne Falls being a refuge where people are happy and employed. Don'tcha wish we could have a government like that?

That Aunt Gerty, lol! She's a free-wheelin' spirit who would love to be reunited with Ulysses. Her total opposite is that Lila. Oy, what a witch . . . and I mean that in the pejorative sense! My disgust for her is reinforced by Jack's story.

There are wee bits of drama and tension in here with one major niggle — Cole accepts magic a little too easily — but it's most a cozy and humorous story that I enjoyed.

The Story
Cole Van Zant knows there is no such thing as witches, and his daughter's insistence that she's a witch is driving them both 'round the bend. When he finds out that his new neighbor thinks she's a witch…oy!

The arguing that ensues results in a bargain between Cole and Pandora. One which could work out well between the real estate agent, the young "witch", and the heir.

Just know that truth is good, but it sure can hurt.

The Characters
Pandora Williams is the House Witch of Nocturne Falls because she sells almost 100% of the property in town. Too bad her magic is so wonky. Pumpkin is her oversized cat. Corette Williams is Pandora's mother who runs the bridal shop, Ever After, in town and is dating Stanhill. Pandora's sisters include Charisma, a life coach, and Marigold, the youngest, who owns the flower shop, Enchanted Garden, and has an eight-year-old daughter, Saffron, a.k.a. Saffie.

Professor Cole Van Zant has just inherited a Victorian house, Pilcher Manor, in Nocturne Falls on Shadows Drive from his maternal great-uncle Ulysses Pilcher. He normally teaches higher math at East State during the school year and works construction in the summer. Thirteen-year-old Kaley, a.k.a. Starla or Kaley-did, is his adopted daughter who believes she's a witch — and he has full custody. Kaley lies a lot too. She'll be attending Nocturne Falls High. Great-aunt Gertrude "Gerty" Pilcher, Ulysses' wife and a legendary witch, died ten years before him. Jack Van Zant is Cole's secretive father who works as a warehouse foreman at Greenway in Wilmington, North Carolina. Cole's mother, Maxine, died.

The lying, cheating Lila Aquinos is Cole's flighty ex-wife and Kaley's real mother, just not legally.

Nocturne Falls is...
...a Disney-like town that attracts tourists by the busload. Most of the town is owned by the Ellinghams, a local vampire family. Bartholomew Stanhill is Hugh's rook, think Batman's Alfred. The grumpy Sebastian Ellingham is the oldest son who handles the family finances. Hugh Ellingham is the second son, and he married Delaney who runs a sweets shop, Delaney’s Delectables ( The Vampire's Mail Order Bride , 1).

Hank Merrow is the werewolf sheriff in town, and he's married to Ivy ( The Werewolf Meets His Match , 2). Charlie is their son . . . and Saffie is in love with him. Hank's nosy aunt, Birdie Caruthers, is the police receptionist. Hank's deputies include Alex Cruz, a panther shifter.

Bridget Merrow, Hank's sister and a werewolf, owns Howler's, a popular local dive bar. Willa Iscove is a fae jeweler who owns Illusions. She married Nick Hardwin, a gargoyle, in The Gargoyle Gets His Girl , 3. Ivan "Van" Tsvetkov, a.k.a. The Hammer, is a dragonshifter and MMA fighter. Mummy's is a great diner for breakfasts.

Alice Bishop is the head of the local coven; she's also Elenora's companion. Dominique is a third-degree witch and a councilwoman for Nocturne Falls. More members of the coven include Nella Davis and Martha Trevors.

Harmswood Academy is the private school in Nocturne Falls for supernaturals. Roxy St James is a paranormal romance author and a friend of Delaney's who lives in New York. Gary Melworth owns Melworth's Kitchens and More, which is a high-end cabinet shop. The cauldron.com is an online forum for (wannabe) witches. Ren was a boyfriend in high school who didn't believe. Zarina had been an evil witch censured by the American Council of Witches (ACW). Hildie Martin is a potential house seller. Professor Agnes Houston teaches drama at East State University in North Carolina.

The Cover and Title
The cover is a predominance of green with horizontal teardrops of greens in a starry green sky, a clutch of green trees behind Pilcher Manor (in green) with windows lit up with yellow light. More green is the grass beneath their feet. Yep, their. Cole is in blue jeans, a green T-shirt, and a lighter navy jacket, glasses firmly in place. One hand clutches a bouquet of pink and red roses while the other hand is gripping the folding ladder. It's a red-haired Pandora wearing a pointed witch's hat, black boots, and a short sexy dress who's up on that pale brown ladder. She's celebrating by shooting off those stars from her own hands. That wrought iron fence gives another nod to the witchy with its cobwebbed pickets. The orange jack-o-lantern with its lit-up face is perched atop a spiked cap and is framed by two ravens. Beneath it is a wooden sign with the series information in a pale yellow. The title is at the top (leaning right) in a simplified gothic font in white with a thick black outline. The author's name is in a serif font with the same coloring. Below that is an info blurb in white with a thick black background.

The title isn't quite accurate, for even as The Professor Woos the Witch, she's wooing him right back.

This is the forth book in the Nocturne Falls series. I loved it!

Pandora Williams is a fantastic character. I liked her when I first met her in The Gargoyle Gets His Girl. She is a witch with misfiring magic who works as an estate agent and is known as The House Witch. When she finds a young girl hiding in her shed, and the girl's father arrives on her doorstep to collect her, her magic is affected by his very presence and begins to work properly. Intrigued and attracted to the sexy maths professor, Pandora finds herself facing a difficult decision.

Cole Van Zant is a wonderful character. I liked him a lot. He is a maths professor, but when he finds out he has inherited a house in Nocturne Falls from a distant relative, he takes a sabbatical and brings his daughter, Kaley, with him. He doesn't believe in magic or supernatural beings, but when he meets Pandora he is instantly attracted to her. As a family secret is revealed, Cole's life is completely upended. Will he be able to make a future with Pandora, or will his ex-wife throw a spanner in the works?

I came across this series through the recommendations from Amazon due to my reading/browsing history. I loved the first book and couldn't wait to read this one. Luckily, my sister and I share the same taste in books and, since we also share our Kindle libraries, I was able to read this from her account.

I started to read and didn't put it down until I had finished it. In fact, it felt like I'd only just started it when I finished. I flew through the story I was that absorbed. I enjoyed meeting the various residents of Nocturne Falls and getting to know them better.

The story is told through the eyes of both Pandora and Cole and took me on an emotional roller coaster ride from beginning to end. The reader is also introduced to several characters including Pandora's mother, Corette, and two sisters, Marigold and Charisma. Corette owns and runs the only bridal shop in Nocturne Falls. Marigold owns and runs a florist shop and Charisma is a psychologist. Marigold also has a daughter called Saffron, who is eight years old. Then there is Kaley, Cole's thirteen year old daughter. She is a typical angst ridden teen, though I liked her a lot too. It can't be easy living with a father who doesn't believe in witches and magic. The only character I took an instant dislike to was Kaley's mother, Lila. I cannot understand how a parent can abandon their own child in the way she did. I found her to be incredibly selfish. There are also a few other interesting characters, but none more so than Aunt Gertrude, who is now a ghost living in the attic. She's incredibly eccentric and a bit of a dirty old lady. She made me laugh.

I have really enjoyed reading this series and watching the characters grow. In this book, there is a lot more character development for not only Pandora, but for Kaley and Cole too. They each take an amazing journey of discovery about themselves that some of the previous characters in the other books didn't do. There is a little more action in this storyline too, with danger in the form of an ex determined to tap into Cole's ability as a human familiar. I really enjoyed the showdown between Pandora and Lila, though slightly disappointed with the ending of that fight. I won't say why because of spoilers. Having said that, I loved the interview scene at the school between Cole and Hugh and Sebastian Ellingham. It made me giggle. Sebastian is becoming more intriguing by the minute.

As I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm not a huge fan of insta-love. I like characters to have time to get to know each other better. This story is more in line with this compared to the first two books in the series. The story is a romance and I enjoyed watching Cole's and Pandora's relationship grow. I reached the end of the book and was left with a warm fuzzy feeling as I enjoy a happy ending. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series, The Vampire's Fake Fiancée, as soon as I can.

Kristen Painter has written a wonderful paranormal romance. I enjoyed her writing style, which is fast paced and entertaining. The flow was wonderful too. I would definitely read more of this author's books in the future.

There are no scenes of an explicit sexual nature (the scenes fade or are implied and not shown), nor is there any bad language. Therefore, I recommend this book to older teens and highly recommend this book to readers who love paranormal, supernatural or urban fantasy romances. - Lynn Worton

Y'all. I think I've found my new favorite book in the series! I literally could not put this book down. I kept telling myself... just one more chapter... just one more chapter... until it was almost 1am and I had finished the book. I'm now running on about 3 hours of sleep but, we all know, sleep is overrated.. 😉

Cole and his daughter, Kaley, moved to Nocturne Falls after he inherited his great-uncle's house. His plan is to renovate it and then sell it. And this needs to happen fast. Kaley is talking about being a witch, coming into her powers, and when Cole doesn't believe her, she runs away and ends up at Pandora's house.

Pandora's magic has been "broken" her entire life. It never fails to go awry whenever she uses it. It isn't until she meets Cole and Kaley that it starts acting the way it should. Trying to figure out why that is, is going to be a bit difficult seeing as she can't stand the man.

Add in a crazy ex, a meddling ghost, overprotective family members, and a man who has zero clue what he is, and you've got the makings of the perfect break from reality.

Y'all. This book is fantastic! I adored Pandora and Cole. Watching them go from extreme dislike to like to love had this girl letting out all the little dreamy sighs. Unlike the other books I've read so far in this series, these two don't jump right in bed together. They focus more on getting to know each other and seeing if they're compatible because if they're wrong, there will be consequences to pay.

I'm still really enjoying this series. Nocturne Falls is my new favorite destination. I loved seeing some old friends and learning about new ones. I can't wait to see who's story is up next!

I really don't know why it took me so long to give Ms. Painter a try, but I'm glad I finally did. It's been nice not having to scroll through my kindle or search Amazon for new books and/or authors. Makes my life so much easier.. 😉

And of course we can't forget my casting. I think these two are pretty perfect.

“The Professor Woos The Witch,” is the forth book in the Nocturne Falls series. This series is not a continuation of one story but of other people’s point of view and personal stories intertwined into one enjoyable series. This series has common themes/genres: mystery, suspense and romance. The way the author goes from one couple to the next couple is almost like a whole new story. But the stories makes reference to things that happened in the previous books as well as old characters appearing in new books.
Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.

The tourists think it’s all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky.

This is a fun entertaining series, but this book has been my least favorite so far. It pales in comparison to the three previous books. This couple doesn’t seem to have the right chemistry that the couples in the previous books had and there were a few things between Pandora and Cole that didn’t seem believable. There were some slow parts, but it didn’t make it unbearable to finish the book. I think the plot was there and it wasn’t a bad read, but I felt as though this book was not on par with the first three book in the series. I hope the next book “The Vampire’s Fake Fiancée” is better.

*The book has been provided by the author/publisher for an honest review.

What do you do when one of your favorite paranormal authors writes another great story just in time for Halloween? Swoon!!! That’s what you do! Kristen Painter never ceases to amaze me. She must have a team of “brain people” in her head like that show, Herman’s Head just-a-fighting with each other to get their chance to shine!

And as a bright as a diamond, “The Professor Woos The Witch” shines bright! The cover (as beautiful as it is) does not hold a candle to the funny and witty tale that it holds inside!!

In the 4th book in the series (I do recommend you reading it in order because the side characters intermingle and are from other books). Pandora the town's successful real estate agent meets her Cole. Do sparks fly? Does he believe in the “spunk and charm” of Nocturne Falls? Doesn’t matter because his daughter does. In fact she thinks she is a witch herself!! Kalay does nothing to deter their leaving and Cole needs help!! So of course who else does he ask to help! Pandora, a “troubled witch” because of her missed firing powers!!

All makes for a wonderful tale and one that any new fan of Kristen Painters will enjoy! All of us old fans flock to her like a hoard of Jerry Garcia Fans at a Grateful Dead Concert! Be one of us!! #JoinMyJourney Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all. AND U SO WANT TO LIVE THERE!!

I TIP MY WITCH’S HAT TO YOU KRISTEN and will circle the moon and back for your stories!! *This review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official

Series: Nocturne Falls #4
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Pandora Williams is Nocturne Falls most successful real estate agent, but also their least successful witch. Her magic never has the intended outcome and she has learned to live with it. When a teenage witch and her sexy father enter Pandora’s life her quiet life with her cat quickly changes. Now she just has to convince Cole Van Zant that witches are real.

I really enjoyed Pandora and Cole’s story. They had a slow building romance that was a nice break from the previous instalove stories. Cole is a very straight-laced, regimented man who doesn’t believe in anything magical. So he struggles to deal with his teenage daughter and Pandora stating they are witches. It takes a major event to make him realize paranormals are real. Cole’s skepticism and doubts were very believable and actually made him a better character in my opinion. I get tired of characters always accepting paranormals instantly so Cole was a nice change of pace.

Pandora was a very sweet and kind woman. The Van Zant family unexpectedly burst into her life but she quickly fell for both of them. She was great with Cole’s daughter Kelsey and very supportive of her feelings. The William’s family were great additions to the story. I loved the family bond between them all and how supportive they were. I really hope we see more of the William’s in future books.

This might be my favorite of the series so far. I loved the slow building romance, the family bonding, and the dangerous magic that they deal with.

I Debated on DNFing this one a couple times. I DID NOT LIKE PANDORA. Thought she was a faithless, judgmental, shallow, self pitying fool. I seem to be the odd one out on that.
Cole was awesome and I still feel bad he ends up with her. In fact he bends over backwards to get her to love him. And she makes him jump through hoop after hoop. sad sad sad.
I was expecting the story to be driven by his refusal to believe in magic, but that didn't last long.

Cole moves to the town with his 13 year old daughter who thinks she's a witch because her estranged mother said so in a flippant letter. Cole doesn't believe in magic because he's a math professor but mostly because that's how his parents raised him... little did he know that they were lying to him.
He meets Pandora and right off the bat Pandora believes the worst of him.
In fact... every chance she gets she is prepared to believe the worst of him.
At 50%, she's known him for less than a week and is prepared to write him off in a very stuck up 'you muggle' way. She had a sad incident in high school that I suppose is to excuse her poor behavior in the beginning...
And don't get me started on his dad and ex wife. I can understand his daughter being an asshat, 'cause she's 13... need I say more? I actually liked his teenage daughter's character quite a bit.
So who is going to stand up for Cole????
I loved Cole's character and the story had so many elements I love in a paranormal story but was ruined by Pandora's shallow character.
Just not feeling the love in this one....

***I received a copy from author/publisher in return for a honest review**

Gosh, Kristen really outdid herself this time! Every book I read of hers, I think that was my favorite one. Until I pick up the next one. I don't know how she does it but she is simply amazing. This is her true calling in life. All these books can be read as a stand alone. And they would be great for teens! If you have any special teens in your life, this would make a great Christmas gift or even Halloween. After all, the town the stories are all set in celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. I loved the chemistry between Cole and Pandora. He is so skeptical and set in his hard headed ways. But she can hold her own. He doesn't believe in witches because he approaches life like he does his math professor job, everything is black and white. Unfortunately, his daughter, Kaley, is a witch and needs a mentor pronto. Pandora is trying to help the girl find one but how is she to prove to the dad that witches do exist when her own magic is faulty at the best of times? There are some really funny moments so be prepared to laugh. I loved how the characters from the previous books made appearances. I feel more and more like I live in this world. Thank you Kristen for taking me away from

4.5 stars for that very very cozy supernatural romance!

I love to read something cozy from time to time.. I'm not really into romance and not at all into supernatural, but this serie is really good. It's so simple it could be read by a child (well, except for sex maybe!) but it'also refreshing and very comforting.

What I liked:
- Its coziness. Being sure from the beginning that all will be good in the end
- no tension whatsoever, even when the "bad ones" are doing their best you can still feel relaxed
- no stupid situations, absurd incomprehensions, misunderstandings... If A loves B, B loves A, they trust each others, they are together trying to protect themselves and their love from C. And nothing can put them against one another.
- and the reader's voice.. I'm listening to that serie, every book is read by the same actor.. I could fall in love with that voice, it's so calm and reassuring and also sexy while being comforting and relaxing...

Not a full five stars only because there isn't much intensity or excitement near the end. Other books in the serie were moving, this one was only sweet, which is still good!

A perfect read when life is a bit hard and your books need to be easy..for a change..

You know a book is good when the first thing you do on finishing it is buy the next one! This is such a fun series to read and listen to and this book was no exception. Math teacher, Cole van Zant has just moved to Nocturne Falls with his daughter Kaley, who believes she is a witch. Cole doesn't believe in witches or the supernatural i general until he meets local realtor Pandora Williams, and also a witch and find out he may not be as human as he thought he was.

What i like about this book is the fun story line and the light tone even in the thickest of action. I also like the fact that we get to be introduced to some new and different supernatural pairing but still get to visit with characters from the books previous so its a nice blend of old and new. I warmed to both pandora and Cole right away and felt like they had chemistry as a pairing which definitely helped remove the instalove sting just a little. With a likeable and engaging characters, a warm fuzzy romance and some action to seal the deal, this book doesn't try to be more that what it is - a fun and entertaining read.
