Things get complicated fast. In no time at all, Molly has four “men of interest” and the memories of a lost love to send her overanalytic, befuddled mind into serious overdrive. Determined not to let her “helpful” girlfriends help her right out of another relationship, Molly tries to keep mum on the state of her love life. Her BFF male coworker, Randy, becomes her closest confidant as he stumbles over romantic issues with his new Mr. Right, Kyle.

Meanwhile, Molly’s BFF gal pals aren’t too happy about being left out of the loop. Tweaking Molly’s last nerve is the town’s most visible socialite, Naomi Hall-Benchley. For self-serving reasons, Naomi is hell-bent on setting up “Picky Molly Hacker” and she doesn’t care who she has to manipulate or hurt to do it. Just how far will she go? Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! takes the reader on a yearlong romp through Molly’s mind and a joyride through her life. Her dating life, town secrets, a group of quirky, crazy characters, and Naomi’s machinations collide head-on at a holiday gala that will change the social landscape of Swansea forever.

As the New Year rolls in, Molly gets earth-shattering news. Can she go on? Will life ever return to abnormal again?

Molly Hacker is Too Appealing!

As a single woman in a couples world, I was drawn to this novel. But it wasn't until I cyber-met the lovely Lisette Brodey when she interviewed me at her Author Chateau that I bumped this story to the top of my list. And what a funny, clever story it is.

Molly Hacker is a 32-year-old newspaper reporter whose single status seems to be of great concern to her friends and family. "Just settle down with a husband!" they say. "Stop being too picky!"

But Molly doesn't want just anyone to be her partner for life. (Smart woman!) She's looking for a guy who's cute, interesting, and funny. A guy just like her ex, Leo. Their breakup broke her heart and her trust, and now her mantra is "I must, I must, I must begin to trust."

I REALLY relate to Molly. She is an independent writer, won't settle for just any guy, likes Coldplay and Maroon 5, has a hilarious gay BFF and a misbehaving cat, and even wishes she could've been a psychologist (my career). However, she's more neurotic than I am (I hope). And I'm so thankful people don't get on my case about being single. Poor Molly has to endure meddling friends and family.

When my aunt Pauline asked me why a pretty girl like me couldn't have brought a man to the wedding who wasn't attached to someone else, I asked the thrice-divorced sister of my mother to explain to me how settling for three Mr. Wrongs had enhanced her life.

She's certainly not a shrinking violet! Molly is a lot funnier than me, too. Her insights crack me up, like:

I was feeling like the rock star's girlfriend. I liked that, but then my lips started forming the word "groupie", and I didn't want to be considered one or to fend off their overzealous affection for my man. My man? I needed to regroup. Or did I need to regroupie?

"What does 'cute as a button' mean, anyway?" I asked. "I mean, how did buttons ever become the poster children for cuteness?"

But her coworker friend Randy steals the show with his cleverness:

I just stared at Randy, noticing his face had a strange orange glow to it. "And your face is orange because … ?"
"Okay. Self-tanner. Put on too much for too long. Tried to impress. What a mess. I confess. Now I digress. What's up with you, or should I guess?"
"Give it a rest, I chimed in."…
"I hate men," I said, glaring at him. "ALL of them."
"Molly Rose, how irrational. What has gotten into you? Why so blue?"
"If you can be orange, I can be blue!" I said.
"Such colorful banter," he said.

Ha ha! Then, when invasive socialite Naomi shows up unannounced at Molly's office, Randy has some fun:

To complicate my ever-complicated life, nothing ever got past Randy, who had taken from his desk drawer a Scream mask (derived from the famous Edvard Munch painting), put it on his face, and proceeded to stand three feet away from the threshold of my office door, mocking every move Naomi made behind her back.

Molly encounters quite a few suitors throughout the story, including a rock star painter, her high school crush (who's now getting a divorce), an older man who's wealthy and suave, and an awkward yet endearing man. If she decides to choose one of these men, which one will it be? This mystery match-making element kept me turning the pages.

It's clear that Molly Hacker is well-deserving of a wonderful man who matches her wit and style.

I received this book from the goodreads giveaway. I'm so happy that I did. I loved it so much. This book is so well written, it is a amazing experience. I would have to say the best book I've read of 2012 so far. I found the book full of real life situations as Molly looks for love, however the author has given her a humors twist on life. This book does exactly what I love most about books, it makes you feel like your there with Molly. I have to admit I did have a tissue moment at the end. Awesome book. Highly recommended.

Reporter Molly Hacker prefers to write obituaries rather than report on the overwhelming minutiae of high society weddings. It's only a temporary project she takes on in conjunction with her usual reporting assignments, but it facilitates the beginning of relationships that could have a permanent effect on her love life and future. Could it finally mean wedding bells? Will she have to set aside her "pickiness" in order to take the trip down the aisle? Does one have to sacrifice their standards at the very altar at which they're married?

Beneath the refreshing humor and amusing situations that take place in this romantic comedy is a story of the human heart, the connection it desires, and the fear of taking that first step to achieve it, a fear of possibly having to resort to self-sacrifice in the process. This is perhaps most brilliantly illustrated during a poignant discussion between Molly and her good friend Randy toward the beginning of the novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between the colorful characters as well as the ease in which the author injected wit and humor into the story. The plot twists were quite clever and I enjoyed the creative way the novel's conclusion was handled. The main characters are smart, sassy and endearingly human with all the quirks and flaws that come with being human. Molly winds up in scenarios that had me thinking, Well, this could get messy, and in some instances my premonition was proven correct in both humorous and humiliating ways for the protagonist.

Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! is an intriguing read that comes at a time when marriage, for some people, is more of a finish line in a race to boast about their status rather than a sacred ceremony to declare one's loyalty to the person they truly love. Lisette Brodey has done a remarkable job at executing an intricate plot while folding in the complex elements that often accompanies matters of the human heart and the pursuit of a compatible mate. For some, it is an endeavor that means having to explore different kinds of relationships to discover with whom they truly envision themselves for the long haul.

This is a fun book. I don't read much chick lit these days, but this book is written by an author who knows how to create realistic characters, so this is not a typical chick-lit book. It has depth. I've read both of Lisette Brodey's other books, Crooked Moon, and Squalor, New Mexico, so I already knew she was a talented author. This book proves that she is also very adept at writing in different styles and genres. In Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! Lisette Brodey has created a larger than life character, Molly Hacker, who most young women will be able to relate to in some way, I'm sure. The story is written in the first person, so Molly is telling us all about her search for Mr. Right. It's a funny book, with some very comical exchanges of dialogue between the characters. Rom com fans will find a lot to love about this story.
This is in essence a story about a young girl looking for love in a complicated world. She is told by friends, and other not-so-nice people that she is too picky, and everyone wants to have a hand in trying to find someone for her to marry, it seems. Molly seems to be doing all right on her own, which made me think that she's actually too lucky rather than too picky, with an assortment of men who would love to date her!
Molly is determined not just to find love but to find her soul mate. She is still pining over a lost love when we meet her. Soon she goes from someone feeling lonely as her younger sister's wedding approaches, to someone who is juggling a string of suitors and trying to make sure that they don't find out about each other. Which one will she choose? Is it even up to her to decide?
This is a book that will keep you guessing, and the ending was totally unexpected and masterfully crafted.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes a good entertaining story. I'd also recommend Lisette Brodey's other books.

I found Lisette Brodey's book “Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!” to be convincingly real. It drew me in as if I were there in person and an ear for Molly to confide in, sharing information as if my best friend was speaking to me. I felt privileged to be accepted into Molly’s life; that is how the book made me feel.

Lisette Brodey’s characters are so broad, diverse, and distinct that when reading the dialogue, I knew who was speaking without having to read “he said” or “she said” and it never faulted. Brodey shows her talent and knowledge of people exceptionally well in this area. How easy is it to read a book where you “hear” each character speaking as if they were there in the room with you.

Lisette Brodey reaches a real depth in her understanding of human nature and behavior. She is very perceptive, hilariously funny, and “spot on," which makes reading “Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!” pure entertainment from the beginning to the amazing end, when it all just comes together flawlessly.

If you love reading books about friendships, male/female relationships, love, humor, personality clashes and the feeling of being a part of something special, then you will thoroughly enjoy “Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!” and maybe like me, you will reach the end and be sad it is over. I would really like to know how Molly is doing now!

Molly Hacker is Too Picky - Is she really? Fun, witty, and insightful

As so many of Lisette Brodey’s fans, I “met” Molly Hacker on her blog and was very curious to “connect” with her again in the novel. She is quite a character, witty, spunky, and a good sport. However, when it comes to finding Mr. Right, she has to overcome quite a few obstacles: her own somewhat confused ideas and feelings about love, her well-meaning but somewhat pushy friends, an important woman (the she-devil) in the media industry who is out to sabotage her.

To say that the book is entertaining is an understatement. It is a real page-turner, devilishly funny, engaging, and sensitive. It deals in an insightful way with problems of love, friendships, and relationships we all struggle with sometimes. And it gives us a fascinating, tongue-in-cheek picture of the world of journalism and the media.

Molly for all her blunders is someone you just have to like. All the characters are well-developed, vivid, and genuine. I particularly enjoyed the exchange between Molly and her best buddy, Randy. What a riot!

Another successful story by a very talented author!

Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! (Lisette Brodey)

Beautiful Molly Hacker is 32 years old and works as a newspaper reporter in an affluent town of Swansea. She had been told she is too picky and that is why she is still single. Now with her younger sisters wedding approaching her friends determined to find her the perfect man.

With her girlfriends trying to give her advise, four men pursing her, one ex love that won't leave her mind and her male BFF (and coworker) trying to help her along the way. Add to the drama a vixen of a woman, the she-devil Socialite Naomi Hall-Benchly who is forever trying to "set up" Molly with the "perfect man".

A fast paced original laugh out loud read. Told in a memoir/diary type form I was drawn right into Mollys mind, feeling her emotions and frustrations along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed this read from the beginning up until the shocking, unexpected perfect ending.

I loved this book. I tried to think of another way to start this review, but that is the overwhelming thing that comes to mind. Reading Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! is like getting together with an old friend you haven't seen for a while and catching up on all that has happened in her life during the past year. You know the experience... two friends sitting down over coffee, refilling cups a few times, but then ultimately gabbing as the coffee turns stone-cold. People nearby are muttering because you've held down the best table in the joint for hours and show NO signs of moving on. And when you pull out your phone as the conversation winds down, you're shocked to find that so much time has passed, I mean, really, you only started talking half an hour ago, right?

Molly Hacker, reporter for the Swansea Herald, is very single when the book opens, attending a wedding with her best-friend Tony whom she has always been in love with, but he happens to be married to his high school sweetheart. She is still trying to get over a broken heart from her last relationship with Leo, but is having a difficult time with it. And friends, family, and enemies are NOT helping. In fact, the helping hand of friends, while not responsible for the end of her last relationship, gave it a good shove in that direction. But with her nemesis, Naomi Hall-Benchley, Molly's single status is a challenge, and she considers Molly's say in the matter immaterial. As we romp through this romantic comedy, Molly winds up juggling no less than four men, in the small community of Swansea where everybody knows everybody else's business and considers it their own. That's not a feat most women (or men) could pull off. *Whispers* And Molly is no different.

Maybe one of the reasons I connected so well with this book is that like Molly Hacker, I took my time to find the right guy. Before I took the trip down matrimony lane, I wanted someone I fully connected with, someone who wasn't second-best or settled for. Because I knew that was a recipe for a quick trip through divorce court. I also had the pressure from friends and family (although thankfully none from my mother) about when I'd finally settle down. And like Molly, I didn't give my heart easily, but when I did, it was completely.

Brodey does a fantastic job with the characters, even down to Molly's cat, Captain Jack. I expected no less because last year I read, Squalor, New Mexico, and thoroughly enjoyed Brodey's character development in that book. Randy was an instant fave and the banter between him and Molly is priceless. The only one who borders on caricature is Naomi Hall-Benchley, and it works and I believe is deliberate... and haven't we all had a Naomi in our life in one way or another?

My life has been in hyper-busy mode of late, and there appears to be no end in sight on the to-do list, so I thought I'd read Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! a chapter a night before going to sleep. Yes, it'd take me longer to read, but at least I'd feel like I made progress with it since it is something I have been wanting to read prior to its release. Well, as things go, one chapter turned into two, and two into three, and so on. Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! cost me some precious hours of sleep, but it was well worth the resultant bags under the eyes. And before I conclude and tell you that you'll be missing out on a great romantic comedy if you skip this one, Molly has been blogging for the past year on her website and the posts are just as charming and engaging as the book, with illustrations created for each post. It is well worth a read and a comment or two. Stop by and check it out. And don't miss the video of Molly as she raps about her experiences. So??? What are you waiting for? Pick up a copy of Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! or put it on your to-be-read list today.

I enjoy a lot of books, but “Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!” was something truly a special read for me. After I finished it, the story stayed in my head for many days and I asked myself why. Finally, it dawned on me. The characters in this book are all so real. Molly is so relatable. I laughed out loud in so many places because when Molly spoke I could hear myself or one of my many friends saying exactly the same thing. Molly is not only funny but she is honest about her vulnerabilities. For me, Molly is a modern-day folk hero for women seeking true love.

I also loved Molly’s interaction with the men she was dating. They were all so different from one another, and yet I could see her attraction to and her confusion with each one. I loved the stories within the stories and the book had such a satisfying ending that really brought everything full circle. Molly’s ongoing feud with the town socialite Naomi Hall-Benchley was hysterical. And her friendship with her co-worker, Randy, was touching, funny, and real. One last thing I love about this book: it made me laugh. Lots.

Lisette Brodey’s latest novel once again highlights her admirable flexibility as a writer, and her exceptional skill as one of today's great character-driven storytellers.

From the opening chapter I was drawn to Molly Hacker’s delightful wit as she sets out in pursuit for her ideal man. The group of colourful and often peculiar characters all play an important role in Molly’s life. I found myself laughing (many times) as the story develops. The story spans over a 12-month period ending with a spectacular party where all pieces of this exciting tale fall into place.

I have no hesitation in recommending, ‘Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!’ to everyone who enjoys clever, witty, and fun reading. From the front cover to the back, it is very deserving of five stars.

This is not like most other romantic fiction I have read; usually, there are just two men trying to win the heart of the heroine, and it is fairly obvious which one she will end up with. The skill is in making the story interesting enough to keep us reading. Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! breaks that mould; Molly is seeing four very different men, and is still pining for her lost love, so who will win her heart is anyone’s guess. In some ways it’s not important; her journey is fascinating and who she ends up with is not really the point. Everyone seems very keen to find Molly a partner, but, fortunately, she is not going to be rushed into an unsuitable match. The story is told entirely through Molly’s eyes and we get a real insight into what is going through her mind. The characters are well written and believable, even her cat, Captain Jack. I really liked Molly; she’s strong and feisty and prepared to wait for her ‘soul mate’. There were lots of laugh-out-loud moments, and the scene at the society fundraiser is beyond hilarious. I’ll leave you to discover it for yourself. This is the first book I have read by Lisette Brodey, but it won’t be the last.
Thanks to the author for an arc of Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! which I read as a member of Rosie’s Book Review Team #RBRT

What a fun romp! Even the chapter titles are pure delight. They set a reader up for laughs and Mollyisms that track along with the character. Molly clued us early about her take on life when she said, "Life was like a treasure hunt." She's right and proves it.

Molly invites us into her past and present dating and relationship debacles. And a pattern emerges for the reader. Molly needs to be pickier when it comes to men. Well, maybe not all men. The Molly doings wrap the story in one humorous and disastrous encounter after another. We're invited on dates with Molly and her stable of admirers. We suffer alongside her as she navigates the uncertain waters of recognizing love.

If you're looking for pure entertainment in a rom/com cleverly written, meet Molly. Warning: You may recognize some of these guys as someone you dated. Last, there's a cherry on top. It's the ending. You'll see. Molly Hacker, I liked your picky self just fine.

Brilliantly observational rom-com!

Very sharp and witty commentary of a single woman who won't settle for `Mr Anybody' ... and believes that, despite her cynical outlook on dating and romance, she deserves `Mr Right'. She'll fiercely fend off any attempts by others to make her settle.

Molly Hacker is not for compromising!

As a reporter for The Swansea Herald, Molly turns down the opportunity to be a press-pass-carrying socialite...in favour of doing the obituary column. She spurns the attempts of the manipulative Naomi (an awful, self-righteous, social-ladder-climbing, deadly-nightshade of a woman)... to be set up on a blind date with some man that Naomi is determined to match-make.

Yet, notwithstanding the machinations of the dreadful Naomi, as the story progresses Molly goes from zero partner-prospects to too many to handle. And still, despite her overwhelming choice of suitors, Molly remains determinedly picky, and wanders even into neurotic.

On the surface, Molly is a tough, feisty, no-nonsense woman, who is juggling several potential relationships in a skilful but considerate fashion. As each of her suitors is so very different from one another, and offers her different prospects, she appears to be making the best of each in a caring and pragmatic way. But beneath her cool exterior, she is pestered by memories of her lost `true love', and her own insecurities. This provides a wonderful contrast within her personality which makes you all the more curious ... what exactly will it take to make Molly happy?

I particularly enjoyed the snipey attitude illustrated in dialogue, the lovely comedic expressions - many of which are made as though she is talking-to-camera, like an aside to the narrative run - and the clever use of metaphor. I don't often laugh out loud, but this indefatigable character is both passive-aggressive, and vulnerable with her over-analyses.

What Molly's big problem seems to be is her inability to trust. An issue which I felt - without the succour of her irrepressible and flamboyant friend Randy - would most likely drive her insane!

With all of the men vying for Molly's affection, the suspense element kicked in as I tried to guess which of these very different characters was going to reach through to her. I also wondered... will any of them get there?

Now, to the best `fist-thump-on-table-triumphant-yell' section I have read in a long time. The Big Event. No spoilers here - so suffice it to say this was expertly delivered, tied up so many threads that the author wove in earlier chapters, and outcomed in a way you would never guess was coming. Really, I was thumping fist and shouting YES! ... Superb!

And just when you think you've had all the twists you can handle...wait `til the end. It's a brilliant turn of events, and settles the entire story in the most surprising denouement.

Recommended with a high Five!

After following Lisette Brodey's popular character blog, 'Too picky?...(I think not!)' over the last 9 months or so and looking forward to my weekly Molly `fix', I have been eagerly awaiting the novel, 'Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!'

I was thinking it was going to be along the same lines as Molly's blog, but it wasn't. Sure it was our Molly, but it is like when you meet a friend in a completely different setting or situation - a bright light with a familiar ambiance, let's say.

The wit Lisette Brodey has in her writing is so refreshing and extraordinary, especially when her character Molly is with her friend and confidant Randy. The two have this incredible chemistry, which jumps out of the pages and into the reader's mind. I had this feeling of excitement every time the two got together - Just a delight to read.

I would describe `Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!' as a very witty, lighthearted and clever read with moments of passion, shock, and glorious friendships that will draw you in and make you feel like one of Brodey's characters in her book, with an ending that all ties together seamlessly, but then blows your socks off.

I really, really enjoyed `Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!' and I have no doubts you will too.

I do not often read books from this genre, but MOLLY HACKER IS TOO PICKY is not just another chick lit book. There is a lot of well thought substance to her and her dilemmas. Molly Hacker is hilarious and her situation is one every woman will enjoy and every man should take a gander into the psyche of the woman. Is she too picky, well I’m not exactly sure? She certainly has a lot of dramatic personality traits.

The story is well-written and from within the humor and drama there is a not so subtle truth that females of all ages will understand and enjoy from a personal view. Molly’s job at the SWANSEA HERALD adds another entertaining layer to her as well as to the story.

Ultimately, Molly wants what we all want and that is to find not only love, but our soul mate. We should all be more like her and resist the urge to settle for less. Bravo to the talented Lisette Brodey for her fabulous character and delightful story.

Sometimes I want a book that makes me laugh. One that brightens my mood and shows me the better side of humanity. I want a book light in mood, but not light in content. I want to care about the characters, be surprised, and be entertained. That can be a lot to ask for, but this book is all of those things and more.

Lisette Brodey gives us the chick-lit experience with literary flavor. I found myself savoring certain passages and re-reading sentences for the sheer enjoyment of the words.

The characters are fascinating, memorable, and well developed. I loved the dynamics within the different relationships. Brodey beautifully captured the intricacies of the emotions Molly experienced throughout.

The story is never predictable. We have lots of surprises along the way. And, while the overall feel is lighthearted, we also have some profound and touching moments.

Have I mentioned that I loved this book? Go ahead and spend a few hours with Molly, and be prepared to giggle.

I loved, loved, loved this book! It's hilarious with great, quirky characters. A well developed story with a surprising twist at the end. The author's knowledge of people is evident and it's very easy to feel that you are there with Molly as her story unfolds.

Is "Molly Hacker Too Picky"? She is often told that she is so she decides to do something about it and her life gets very complicated after she goes from having no man in her life to having several.

From the beginning to the end you will be delighted with this wonderful book about friendships and relationships.

Brodey has a flawless style and a great grasp on character driven stories and this book is a prime example of that.

Molly is the single, spunky, single girl that chick lit aspires to feature but always falls short of. She's razor sharp and I loved experiencing her story along with her and in such a way that makes you feel close enough to be a part of it yourself.

As the New Year rolls in, Molly gets earth-shattering news. Can she go on? Will life ever return to abnormal again?

My Review:

Thirty-two-year-old, Molly Hacker is just too picky when it comes to finding a suitable male to marry. Three weddings ago, when her best friend got hitched, Molly swore it would be the LAST wedding she’d attend until she was the one at the front of the church saying: “I Do!” But, her mother’s very best friend was getting married again so she had to break her promise to herself and attend but was able to do so without too many “insane pangs of envy stabbing my chest like daggers.” She did, however, think to herself: “why the hell isn’t that me up there?”

Bad enough having to attend the wedding in the first place was the fact that Molly’s date, Tony, was a married man which brought everything from looks of pity to disgust from the other wedding guests. Tony was estranged from his wife and she’d known him since high school so it wasn’t a real crime in her eyes anyway. And, of course, Molly received her usual round of comments that if she just wasn’t so darn picky and gave a man a chance, then she wouldn’t have to bring another woman’s husband as her escort.

By the end of the festivities that night, Molly swore that no matter what happened she would never attend another wedding again until it was her own. She flew through the following year without attending one single wedding, despite the fact she’d been invited to three!!

Now, a year later, Molly is sitting watching her twenty-six-year-old sister, Hannah, getting dressed for her wedding. It was August 27th. Hannah is happy beyond measure at marrying, Matthew, her long time beau.

Molly worked as a reporter for the Swansea Herald. One day her boss approached her with the news that the “society” reporter had quit and he needed Molly to do her job, in addition to her regular duties, until a replacement could be found. Well, there was no way in hell, Molly was going to cover high-society weddings and watch a bunch of rich people say “I Do”. She’d be forced to write about the umpteen-dozen bridesmaids, the overly extravagant surroundings, the showers, the engagement parties, rehearsal dinners, and receptions. Molly didn’t want any part whatsoever of other people’s weddings – period! Luckily for her, Olivia, a recent hire was fresh out of college and assigned to writing Obituaries so she asked her boss if she could trade with Olivia and write the Obits instead. Ray’s response was “sure, it’s your funeral” and added “Molly Hacker you’re too picky.”

Molly’s first Obit was rather unusual. The nephew of the man who passed away wanted to meet, Molly at Starbucks in person so he said he could communicate the true essence of what his uncle was really like. In actual fact, he’d already seen Molly’s photo and how beautiful she was, called the newspaper and got Randy, Molly’s BFF and confidante who in turn passed her number onto this nephew. He was also looking for a date if you can believe that. Molly, was a tad annoyed with Randy but forgave him quickly when he began telling her about his latest crush – one Kyle Tillman who Randy said has “bedroom eyes.” Kyle was new in town and he and Randy hit it off from the beginning. Jokingly, Randy told, Molly, “race you to the altar.”

Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! continues on as we witness poor, Molly juggling the love interest of “four” very different men. There are a lot of humorous scenes along the way and quirky characters that’ll have you clutching your stomach. Molly must also fend off the town’s most well-known and visible socialite, one, Naomi Hall-Benchley who is constantly trying to set Molly up with someone but only if there is something in it for herself.

Randy, who is Molly’s BFF and co-worker, was one of my favourite characters. He too is struggling with a new romance so he and Molly make great confidantes for each other.

The story takes us on a year long trek through Molly’s life and let me tell you, that Molly Hacker may be picky but that girl has stamina! And, just wait until you get a view of the holiday party and what happens there, you won’t be able to read fast enough to take it all in. Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! is a beautiful, wonderful, joyous, and comedic story of one woman’s struggle to make it to the altar. Well-done Ms. Brodey, well-done!!

Molly’s pickiness is well illustrated in a myriad of delightful words and metaphors.
Although Molly does not confide in her BFF Claudia; as a reader, I felt privileged to learn about all the men before she did. Pulled me in much more. Fun story.
All the characters are well developed and interesting in their own way.
Except for a few scenes, the pace was good. I can’t wait to read more of Ms. Brodey’s work.

Told in a memoir/diary type form I was drawn right into Molly's mind, feeling her emotions and frustrations along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed this read from the beginning up until the shocking, unexpected perfect ending.

Molly Hacker is a delightful and unexpected main character. For too long have the women in books been whiny, out of touch, unintelligent and dull. Molly Hacker brings wit, humor, and independence to the world of love. Molly has been around the block of love before and refuses to settle for anything but her rightful ONE. But, little did Molly know that three eligible bachelors would be vying for her attention! While Molly juggles the wet-rag, preppy Allen (who could very well be set up by Molly's arch enemy), the rockstar Cody (who may or may not be over his ex), and her high school crush Tony (who gains interest in Molly after his divorce) she not only has to dissect her feelings among these men, but also face the buried feelings she still habors for Leo, her ex-fiance'.

Funny, genius, and unconventional (in a good way), Lisette Brodey has set a new tone for chick-lit!

Molly Hacker is an entertaining read! The characters are clever, funny and immediately likable. I loved going on the journey with Molly as she went in search of her soul mate. Her inner dialogue had me chuckling out loud and relating to her plight. This book is more than just giggles though, there’s plenty of drama and heartache to go along with the fun stuff. I couldn’t put the book down I got so wrapped up in the story! I suggest this to anyone who loves good storytelling, romance, and drama!

An utterly charming, witty, well-written summer read... Only let down by a cover that doesn't do the book justice. Well worth a read.

So many reasons I loved this book!

In the romantic comedy "Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!" Lisette Brodey creates a delightful romp through the trials and tribulations of modern dating, led by the endearing and relatable Molly Hacker. At thirty-two, Molly vows not to attend weddings until she has her own, paving the way for a comedic journey through the ups and downs of romance in her hometown of Swansea.

Molly, armed with wit, charm, and a proclivity for over-analysis (sounds familiar?) becomes entangled in a web of romantic entanglements involving four "men of interest" and the lingering memories of a past love. As Molly navigates the complexities of her love life, her devoted friend Randy becomes her confidant, providing both comic relief and heartfelt support in the midst of chaos.

Lisette Brodey skillfully weaves together humor, romance, and genuine emotion to create a story that is both entertaining and heartwarming. The dialogue is witty, reminiscent of the banter found on popular television shows such as Sex and the City. Readers will laugh out loud at Molly's antics and root for her to find happiness in the midst of chaos.

The ensemble cast of characters adds depth and color to the story, with Molly's friends and acquaintances offering both comic relief and genuine insight. Naomi Hall-Benchley, the town's socialite, is particularly memorable (and infuriating!), and her manipulative antics add an extra layer of intrigue and reality to the story.

But perhaps the most important aspect of "Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!" is its authenticity. Lisette Brodey captures the universal experience of navigating love and relationships with honesty and humor, inviting readers to see (and recognize!) themselves in Molly's story. And just when you think you know where the story is going the author pulls off a surprise twist that will leave you smiling - although the clues were all there, sprinkled like wedding confetti.

"Molly Hacker Is Too Picky!" by Lisette Brodey is a charming and entertaining read that will make you smile long after you've finished the book. This novel, with its witty dialogue, lovable characters, and unexpected twists, will delight romantic comedy fans and anyone who has ever dared to believe in the power of love and happily ever after.

Known as “Picky Molly Hacker” to meddling friends and family, she refuses to let anyone dictate her life. So what if she can’t seem to find “the one?” Still, she aims to prove to them that she can find someone all on her own. In fact, she found four.

Molly is brazen, witty, smart, and not afraid to say something. She’d rather write obituatiers for the newspaper than cover weddings. Me too!

Her story is a rollercoaster of lover’s lane—from prospective loves to past loves. Readers will enjoy Molly’s analytical shenanigans. It’s amazing how many men she juggles in this hilarious tale. Who will she choose in the end? Alan is an annoying schizo who could be a pawn by the she-devil; Tony is a past crush that recently got divorced and could be on the rebound; Cody could just be a R&R player; and Max just seems to be this perfect specimen that landed right smack-dab in the middle of this triangle. And then there's Leo, a ghostly love from the past that still haunts her to this very day.

“I believed that I had all my demons neatly lined up like laundry, each one held up by a clothes pin, basking on a line in the afternoon sun. And now [the] windstorm had blown everything off the line, across splintered fences and into the neighbors’ yards, where everything I thought I knew lay twisted and unrecognizable on soiled grass.” (64) Loved this analogy!

Funny and relatable! I love her fast-talking, biting wit. It’s like listening to Billy Crystal. She’s kooky, quirky, and cute.

Molly Hacker is ‘nonchalantly desperate’ for a husband, and trying to avoid weddings (other than her own) like the plague.
Thus begins a charming odyssey, written with style and wit, in which the feisty Molly has to fend off ‘glances of pity’ and ‘not-so-subtle dirty looks’ while she searches – or doesn’t – in her own inimitable way for Mr. Wrong.
(To give you a flavour of Lisette Brodey’s delightful heroine, as a features reporter, she’d rather write obituaries than cover society events. And she manages multiple relationships with the dexterity of a blind juggler with two broken arms.)
Laced with a delightful cynicism – “For years, I harbored fantasies of finding a wick on top of [Naomi’s] head, lighting it, and watching her slowly burn to the ground” – and a few heart-rending moments, ‘Molly Hacker Is Too Picky’ is a delightful pick-me-up (pun intended). And who doesn’t need that, these days?
