I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

The usual hedge fund billionaire is cheating everyone in sight, as usual. A poker player is scheming to win back all that his parents lost. In the meantime, a recovery agent is trying to do her job, and roust the guy, too. They all live in the same building. After a meet cute, the two get closer, but resist their attraction.

The billionaire ends up on the run, but on the vengeance trail, and some sore losers are after the poker player besides. They all end up aboard a cruise ship for a huge poker tournament.

At times exciting. The poker tournament sort of reminded me of the movie Maverick with Mel Gibson.

Very good story.

Poker players will like this story, it's really thrilling, enjoyable page turner. Most of the story takes place on cruise ship. Carter doing what he loves, winning, Ireland while helping her best friend, recovering stolen money and valuable items. Lots of twists and up and down relationship between the characters.

Rating for this book are ridiculously high... Not good at all. Just feel like and old B movies with tons of clichés. It just have too much good book out there to justified reading this one!

A remake of Hart v Hart television program, with kind of corny tones. The major difference was the female protagonist was the stronger character. The plot was not believable.
Half way through the book, formatting errors surfaced big time. Words were dropped making the reader guess what was missing.

All In is a perfect beach read with its high stakes gambling, romance, bad guys and a mystery to keep readers reading.
Jack and Cassie are in the since a true rom-com they clash with each other but their attraction will win out in the end. Cassie and Jack are both is smart, sexy and will take your money.
The story will take you around the luxury world of gambling. There are a lot of characters that just might get a few readers lost but all in all a perfect beach read to put a smile on your face.

This book was a breath of fresh air. The pacing of the story was marvelous and efficient, and the character development was neither too slow or too fast. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two lead characters (Carter and Ireland). Being someone who enjoys the game of poker really made this a better read. The way that the authors tied in the strategy of poker in terms of reading people to the real world and situations was outstanding. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading the follow up book All Gone.

Very good Joel Goldman thriller. Jake, a professional poker player and Cassie, an asset recovery specialist (read thief) get involved with two different bad guys who are after them to recover some money. Jake won two million dollars in a poker game and the loser wants it back. Cassie broke into a hedge fund mogul's safe and stole some money and a diamond. She also downloaded some data from a laptop which was sent to the FBI.

The back and forth between Jake and Cassie is what makes this novel work. Listed as Book 1, it can be read as a stand alone. No cliffhanger ending. There are some unanswered questions leading up to a second book, however.

This one is 4.75 stars, rounded up. Thank you to Net Galley and to Thomas and Mercer for the DRC. This absorbing thriller will be available September 8 for purchase.

Cassie Ireland is an asset recovery specialist; she views herself as a modern-day Robin Hood whose job it is to steal back money, goods, or even really embarrassing videos from those that originally stole them. Her employer is a shadowy individual code-named Prometheus–a moniker chosen because Prometheus was the sneak thief of the gods. Ireland’s nimble, silent in her work, and careful in trusting others. She really can’t be played.

Her job here is to steal select items from the home safe of crooked-wealthy magnate Alan Kendrick. In order to gain access to his treasure trove, she must first make it past a sophisticated security system, to which she gains access by deceiving Kendrick’s wife, Gina. Once Cassie found her way into that safe, I stopped breathing until she was out again. I think my fingertips turned blue. But once she’s been in and out, things once more begin to unspool at a heart-pounding pace.

Jake Carter is a professional gambler, and he too has a grudge to settle with Alan Kendrick. He plans to beat him at poker; he’s fast, smart, and fair. Unfortunately, the last whale he took down has sent goons after him. They want the money he took from Theo at the table, and they also want him dead. Jake’s challenge is to go after Kendrick while dodging Theo’s assassins.

Ultimately, Cassie, Jake, Theo and Kendrick all land on the same enormous floating gambling casino. You can run…but only so far. You can hide, but sooner or later, you’ll be found. On the other hand, you can also turn your stalkers into your prey, if you’re cunning and well organized, and if you can gain the loyalty of others nearby. And then too, you might be able to grab a helicopter!

All In is fast, escapist fun. Ordinarily I would call this a four-star review. Four stars are my default for books that are anywhere from pretty good to really good, but that don’t meet the gold standard of five stars. My four star reviews are big houses with a lot of rooms. If I hate a book but concede that others are likely to enjoy it, I will go with four stars and explain what I didn’t like. I also give four star reviews to books like this one that I like a lot, but can’t see them as the very epitome of their genre. Five stars means excellence that is above and beyond ordinary work.

The tipping point here that knocked this up to five stars is the use of race and gender. Nobody wants to be preached at in the middle of a thriller, and Goldman and Klink don’t do that. Rather, it is by the assumptions that are inherent in their choice of protagonist (Ireland is African-American, female, smart as hell and way more fit than any gum shoe I can recall); the way the plot unfolds, with no helpless damsels waiting for great big men to come save them; and the way secondary characters are handled, the butler foremost among them. It reminded me a bit of Barbara Neely’s writing, and so I wanted to stand up and cheer.

Fall is coming, and whether you are still basking in the sun on weekends or huddled by a fire, it’s a great time to treat yourself to a tightly paced, accessible thriller by authors that show their respect for all people, especially the working class, in the way they sculpt their characters and plot. It looks like a winner to me.

Why not order it while you can?

I am not going to spend a lot of time reviewing this book. Let's just go to the highlights shall we?

* A sexy heroine
* A smart, but overly handsome hero
* Bad guys with lots of money
* Yachts, casinos, and all the trappings...

Yeah, you probably saw this on Miami Vice or something right?

Cos that was the problem with this book for me. Apart from the obvious cliches, it just felt like it was written for Hollywood - I expected somewhere to see something like "Coming soon to a cinema near you!"

It's not a terrible story - it's just not terribly original.

All In by Joel Goldman and Lisa Klink is a fast paced, riveting story about Jake Carter, a high stakes poker player accused of cheating & Cassie Ireland who works for the mysterious Prometheus. Sometimes her skills are required to steal from someone who has taken advantage of someone else. I gave this intriguing story five stars.

"'You going to leave me hanging or reel me in?'

'No way I'm leaving behind a perfectly good rope.'

"Bracing herself against the base of the railing, she pulled him up & onto the balcony, tilted him upright & holding him close, cut the rope.

"Jake held on to her until his legs stopped wobbling, burying his face against her neck. 'Thanks.'"

They travel the high seas in an adventure that leaves both their lives at risk. Can they survive their adversaries?

I received a complimentary kindle copy from Thomas & Mercer & NetGalley. This did not influence my opinion for this review.

All In was some serious fun reading. Straight up, all action, no fluff. I was worried when I requested this on NetGalley, because I detest watching poker on television. All the boring that’s on ESPN2 is gone from this story. Did I mention it was all action? All In is Leverage meets Rounders. And let me tell you, Cassie Ireland is an awesome protagonist. I liked her more than Jake Carter. Strong female characters are becoming more prevalent, but still lacking in modern literature. I really liked All In and I'm holding five stars.

ALL IN(IRELAND & CARTER THRILLER BOOK 1) by JOEL GOLDMAN is the first in the series where characters, Cassie Ireland & Jack Carter are introduced . Cassie works for a man (very private, secretcrative man) who hires out Cassie to go after a diamond that is owned by a very ruthless bad guy. Jack on the other hand is a professional poker player who is after the money of the same guy. He swindled Jacks parents and many others out of money. Both are determined to get this guy but good!

As a rule, I am not an instant fan of first books in the series because they tend to spend the entire book immersed in the lives of the main characters and miss any real story line, but there is always the exception to the rule and believe me when I tell you that ALL IN is the exception to the rule. Right away you not only get to "meet " the main characters, learn all there is to know, but you also get a really good storyline as well. I fell in love with these two and their antics. A fast paced fun read with pretty good plots and lots of action. ALL IN doesn't slow down and doesn't put you to sleep!

I recieved this e book free from goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

Jake Carter lives is an upscale apartment in upper East Side, NY just so he can win back the $15 million that Alan Kendrick stole in bad investments from his parents and friends. Alan is very rich and lives in the penthouse. Cassie Ireland, an “asset recovery specialist,” moves in to steal back the two million Kendrick stole from one of her clients. What she doesn’t realize is that her client, Theo Kalogrides, claims Jake stole the money by cheating him at Texas Hold ‘em. Cassie is falling for Jake but must first determine whether Jake is a cheating gambler or an honest one. They end up on a cruise ship that’s hosting a big poker tournament in the Mediterranean Sea. But, Kendrick and Kalogrides both track Jake & Cassie to the cruise ship with the intent on killing one or both, but not until they get their money back. Fast-paced and creative storyline, albeit a bit unbelievable, but who cares? It was fun and fast.

"A Great Story With Outstanding Characters"

Large cruise ships are very similar to living in big cities. There are always risks of theft and crime where no one ever suspects it. Cassie Ireland is a thief. The man she links up with in this story is Jake Carter, a big time gambler. On this ship there is a highly popular casino where a brutal swindler exists. Cassie and Jake work together, having some romance and laughs while attempting to take down mega-rich Alan Kendrick. This is a story which quickly moves into a thriller with great characters, twists and turns, romance and a bit of humor. Very entertaining. Enjoy!

Another Winner for Goldman

Joel Goodman is one of my favorite mystery writers. While I didn't think this was quite as good as his Lou Mason series, it was a nice change of pace and great to see a woman as the better man.

Jake and Cassie were engaging and likable characters and the pacing was brisk. The book was fairly free of the editing errors that make me crazy. The authors should be aware however, that midway through the book the ship's name evaporates in a number of places, leaving behind two blank spaces. I suspect the conversion software couldn't handle the italic type.

Still reading, but very frustrated.

I am about 3/4 through reading this book. I am liking the story, however I am very frustrated with the editor. There are a lot of words missing. Usually I can figure out what words should be there, but it’s a big pet peeve of mine to see this in a published book. I understand I got this off a free book offer, but would still expect it to be done correctly. Who ends a sentence with “of the .” (Of the what?!?!) Finding more and more errors the further I read on.

Entertaining. Cute kind of campy fun. A lot more to the story that can be continued in following books. Will check another out.

Couple things bothered me, a lot -
- When Jack beat Theo he called a jack high straight. It was a queen high straight. No pro poker player would have taken a lesser (even though winning) hand.
- For some reason the name of the boat was omitted part way through he book. Just a blank space as if the authors hadn't decided on a name and were going to add it later but forgot. Really interrupted reading flow for me.

Funny typos--missing words

Has anyone noticed the ship's name--or any reference to words synonymous with ship or boat or cruise--is obviously missing through most of this book? It's like the author did a CTRL-F for the ship name, but forget CTRL-R to replace the missing word. Very interesting to constantly guess if author meant to publish with these holes in sentence. I laughed frequently due to the many errors specific to the ship's name and/or reference to the ship. Word up!

Very tough decision to rate this low

I really wanted to like this book. The characters are strong and enjoyable, the pace is fast and the dialogue isn't too cheesy. Many reviewers have noted how the editing was poor midway through the book, and that is true. My biggest gripe is the totally unsatisfying way it ends. There is no resolution to the major plot lines. I thought it might be a cheap stunt to get people to buy the sequel, but it doesn't appear to be addressed there either. Even if it was, that's a turnoff to try and sell more books by not finishing the story.

Liked this book a lot but better editing would be the icing on the cake!

Like all the Joel Goldman books I have read, this was a fast paced joyride! Very likable protagonists, bad guys you love to hate and improbable situations that make you wonder if this is how conspiracy theories get their legs. Neither author likely needs my help as they both have great credentials but really. Proofreading is you friend. Or maybe a friend should do your proofreading.

Good story even though a bit unbelievable

Extra fun for lovers of Texas Hold’em. This was a fast read and kept my interest. It was hard not to root for the good guys. My criticism is that the latter part of the book was poorly edited. There were a bumper of sentences that omitted a key word, replacing it with nothing or a ?. It was strange because that was only in the last part of the book. I’d enjoy reading another story with the two main characters.

Great read. Different kind of story. Jake and Cassie live in the same building and they both have secrets that they do not want to tell anyone. Each is after something and now have people after them who do not want them to live. Quite an adventure and I loved it!!

Great characters.

Even the supporting characters in the story are pretty cool. I had trouble putting the book down to get the sleep I knew I needed, and also to get back to work after my break. I recommend this one to anyone who likes this kind of thrilling adventure. I would definitely read another with these same characters.

Thrilling adventure with entertaining banter. Characters grow on you like dear friends with an interesting history. Locations are beautifully described so you feel like you're on the locations. Thoroughly entertaining. A great escape from today's reality.

I'm a fan of Goldman. I gave it four stars because it kept me reading. I also like the idea of the poker pro character who relies on his skills at reading people rather than guns and fighting skills. Obviously such a character would require some skilled backup. Maybe a little over the top but a good read.

Meh. Reads more like a comic book or the script to a mindless made for TV movie than anything else. Have to disagree with the many positive reviews here-- I'd felt generous giving it 2 stars, but in its defense, the story moves along at a good pace, even if it's mostly unbelievable and a bit juvenile in character development and plot. On to better books.

A new series worth reading!

I rarely bother with writing reviews but decided that this one is definitely worth taking the time to tell someone else about. It took me a little while to get into the story but once I did, I didn’t want to read the last three chapters. I didn’t want the suspense to end until it had to!
