I thought this was kind of creepy. 31 year old Chikage regrets how reserved she's been, making few friends and having few memorable life experiences. When her co-workers learn that she's still a virgin, they ridicule her. An experimental drug allows her to change her appearance so she looks 15 again. Deciding not to let this opportunity pass, she competes with another would-be idol for a chance at having a CD produced by Hibiki.
Meh. It creeps me out that 15 year old Hibiki makes passes at 31 year old Chikage, who is pretending to be a 15 year old girl. Ugh. There is so much wrong with that that I don't even want to think about it. The humor doesn't even work for me, because their relationship makes me so uncomfortable. Chikage is socially stunted and has a very hard time interacting with men her own age. The story is being set up so there's the potential for a love triangle between a guy her own age and a guy half her age, and I'm not sure I want to go along for the ride.

With this second volume, we get a much better view of the characters, especially Tokita (the scientist). What at first looked like a simple story of a 31 year old reverting to 15, becoming an idol, and eventually finding the courage to go after the guy she liked in high school now has the added dimension of Tokita's connection to her. We get his backstory at the beginning and it is both sad and heartwarming.Story: the humiliations continue at the office but Deguchi is fortified by her nightlife as a 15 year old idol. But that life is also problematic as she is introduced to a rival who will happily take her out. What it amounts to is a showdown - each girl singing the same song and the one who sells the most CDs will get Hibiki as their music producer. Yuko wants Hibiki for herself and is afraid Deguchi will steal him from under her. Curious about Hibiki herself, Deguchi follows him home and finds out he is caring for a large family of siblings. When she runs into Haru and finds he's broken up with his girlfriend, her thoughts become transparent to Tokita. As he helps her choose a dress for the competition, he has to remind himself that his girlfriend Hina is his current priority.
There are several romances going on - in the past and the present. Tokita/Haru for adult Deguchi and Hibiki/Ryu in the past. It'll be interesting to see where Tanemura takes this - though I have my own suspicions about who Deguchi will end up with at the end. The 'wardrobe malfunction' was cute and the solution was expected of a Tanemura story. Since 31 year old Deguchi is constantly told to stand up for herself, it will be interesting to see her modern life transform as she becomes more confident in her idol work.

This volume felt a little more of a set up for later volumes as well as a look into some of the characters passed which I really appreciated but it lacked the cute funny moments that I liked in the first volume.

I really love the concept of this series and Arina is on of my favorites and Idol Dreams is about a 31 year old who is unhappy with her life and so she takes this drug that turns her to a 15 year old and she works to become an Idol. It’s such a different concept than what I am used to from Arina and I am loving it. The characters are so loveable and pure.

oh man. arina tanemura. my girl. i need you to listen closely here: what are you DOING?
you know this comes from a place of love right? it's me, miss, that lady who reads all of your work i can get my hands on. but this manga is a M.E.S.S.
like the premise is already borked: i knew this in volume 1. potential romances involving a 31 year old woman and 15 year old boy are never gonna fly with me, i don't care if she's magically appearing as his age at the time
but the bit in this volume where you veered wildly into sexual harassment and then resumed being like 'oh this guy is so lovely and responsible and taking care of his family, what a GOOD lad'?
why tanemura? why you gotta do us like that? all these years we've had together, didn't they mean anything to you? the sparkles? the ninjas? the magical girls and the boarding schools and the bizarrely powerful student governments? the admitted moments of creepiness from your heroes but generally to a forgivable degree and more often relegated to the villains? i thought we had something special, i really did
i want us to make this work tanemura, i really do. i'm just not sure we're going to be able to do it in this particular series. call me up when you've moved on to another, okay?

I love Volume 2 as much as I did with Volume One.
I like going back in time with Chikage's, Haru's, and Tokita's past and why the way he turned out the way he did. Or even why he helps out Chikage as much.
Spoiler Summary
The art style is still its best with the beautiful big eyes and wild hair.
The story is still great from Volume One and she still is somewhat her "Plain Jane" self.
Can't wait to read Volume 3.

So I still find this series extremely problematic.
We're continuing the awkward "underage romance" thing, what with "Akari" (Chikage) actually being 31 and Hibiki being 15. We also have the thing that enrages me more than anything ever: "It's totally not rape" rape.
You know how a girl might be awkward and might not like being touched by boys? Well, let's force her to have sex! That'll totally fix her aversion to men. That's not rape, right? -_- For the record, that totally is, and there's nothing wrong with not liking being touched by boys.
Anyway, it's played off as a joke and "nothing happens", but I still say "Nope."
A rival has been added in because no good manga series lacks a rival, and that rival is just obnoxious. Absolutely nothing likable about her.
While I still like the general idea of this manga, a lot of the details are just not jiving with me. I think I'll pass on the rest of it.

It's cute but in some parts a little problematic. I like that it was cleared up that the main protagonist just cares for the boys and doesn't actually want to date them cause that's again another story
I'm still not sure who she's going to end up with but I'm rather curious as to how she'll change as a woman how much of these experiences will shape her into the person she longs to be
I'm happy that Arina Tanemura wrote this manga series for the people who've been following her since the beginning and I kinda feel like I'm part of that squad excited to see where this is going

I think I know where this is going, and I really hope it does.... Hibiki does have some some creepiness with that one scene, but I am thinking maybe he was just stressed out??? I hope....

Being closer to Chikages age, I have more empathy for her. I do like how she is starting to veer away from seeing the boys as love interests, even though I know how that goes later... Learning about Hibiki's family was cute!

Ok I gave the last one a bad rating, but I happend to find this in the library and decided to give the series another go.
Yeah this is the last one.
I just don't care about the story. I'm not rooting for a 31 yo and a 15 yo. And wtf was up with the guy trying to force himself on her? That just makes their relationship even more annoying. I also dislike that they use "31 yo virgin" as a synonym for loser.

Idol Dreams, Volume 2 was a solid installment in the series. I liked getting a look back to when Deguchi was truly 15 years old, and seeing a glimpse into Tokita, Deguchi and Haru's lives at that age. I also enjoyed the friendship and support between Deguchi and Tokita now. I feel in this volume, we get to see Deguchi gaining a little more confidence (at least as Akari), with the support of her friends (in this case Ru, Hibiki and Tokita). The romance aspect still feels a little iffy to me, with the teasing from Hibiki and with Ru now, given that these are boys and she is still technically a 31 year old woman (granted it doesn't seem she sees them "romantically" necessarily, but we'll see). I am still curious as to see how this series is going to turn out, personally it seems it could get messy since she is living a double life, eventually something's going to have to give.

This volume was just okay. I didn't like it as much as the first one. Mainly because certain characters get on my nerves and I'm tired of the MC being a freaking doormat and allowing everyone to talk to her any kind of way and treat her so disrespectfully.
But I still got some laughs out of it and I'm interested in seeing where the story goes.

Also, it's hinted at in this volume that there miiigghhttt be a romance developing between the MC and the teen idol she works with who is also 15, and I'm just...not okay with that. Sure, she takes a pill that makes her look 15 again, but she's not actually 15. She's 31 in a 15 year old body.
So, I'm sincerely hoping that this is not the route the author chooses to go because I am NOT down for that.

This series is getting pretty cute, I'm starting to enjoy it quite a bit actually, and I'm hoping that the "love triangle" angle starts to dissolve into something that makes sense by the later volumes. Deguchi seems to be more focused on actually doing something, instead of it being a fully romance based storyline, and , and I'm intrigued to see what happens next. This is one has an interesting conceit that I'm sticking with, and the art also follows what I love from this early to mid 2010s shoujo. I just hope things start to get less creepy with the romance angle.

This was better than the first volume. It dove deep into the dynamics and psychological thoughts of the characters. It also did a great job of progressing the story further. The art was beautiful just the like first volume. There were still some problematic elements to it, but the humor helped to lighten those issues. I did notice some translation and spelling errors, but it wasn’t anything too major. Overall, this was a very solid volume.

Tokita revisited his high school memories and how he snapped out at Deguchi. He reminiscences of how he fell for Deguchi and the blue ribbon. Tokita helps Deguchi shop for an outfit for her performances. They run into Haru and he thinks they are on a date. Ru stands up to Hibiki when he keeps calling Deguchi ugly. Tokita watches Deguchi's performance to cheer her on and later she sees Haru whose company was sponsoring the event.

Although the heroine of this tale is a straight-laced woman in her early thirties, this is definitely shōjo manga. The lonely heroine is displeased with her boring life and regrets her past romantic mistakes. Somehow she finds a magic "youth" pill and transforms herself into a fifteen year old teenager and romantic comedy ensues.

Not The Worst, But Misses The Mark
The first volume I liked well enough despite its faults, but this one I liked less. The more I see the past, the harder it is for me to understand how the heroine can be so socially awkward now. She knew how to be liked!
Ironically, I do find the backstory to be the most interesting. The present drama of becoming an idol has no emotional weight for me, as it's not her dream; she just stumbled into it. Sure, she's trying something new, but it could be anything, so why not make it into something she did care about? At least a little?
Plus her work drama is stupid on all sides.
If you really loved the first volume, you'll probably like this one, but it's hardly a game changer. Its flaws seem more obvious in this one, so I don't know if I'll keep reading.

The cuteness is starting to overflow and it's getting incredibly adorable. I'm falling in love with this manga. Idols and the culture is something that's always kind of peaked my interest so I'm thankful I can finally read some cute manga about it.

Honestly I’m over the point of view where she’s a 31 year old living a life of a teen and being creepy because it’s like she stopped living after high school. She’s had the same mind and the same innocents so it’s cute. I’m interested to see how the story plays out.

I read this immediately after Vol. 1. I guess 1 was more exciting with its exposition. This one didn’t have as much going on plot-wise, but I’m enjoying seeing the dual love triangles develop. Can’t wait to see where that cliffhanger at the end takes us.
