Kentarou Miura (三浦建太郎) was born in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, in 1966. He is left-handed. In 1976, at the early age of 10, Miura made his first Manga, entitled "Miuranger", that was published for his classmates in a school publication; the manga ended up spanning 40 volumes. In 1977, Miura created his second manga called Ken e no michi (剣への道 The Way to the Sword), using Indian ink for the first time. When he was in middle school in 1979, Miura's drawing techniques improved greatly as he started using professional drawing techniques. His first dōjinshi was published, with the help of friends, in a magazine in 1982.
That same year, in 1982, Miura enrolled in an artistic curriculum in high school, where he and his classmates started publishing their works in school booklets, as well as having his first dōjinshi published in a fan-produced magazine. In 1985, Miura applied for the entrance examination of an art college in Nihon University. He submitted Futanabi for examination and was granted admission. This project was later nominated Best New Author work in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Another Miura manga Noa was published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine the very same year. Due to a disagreement with one of the editors, the manga was stalled and eventually dropped altogether. This is approximately where Miura's career hit a slump.
In 1988, Miura bounced back with a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, as an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves (王狼, ōrō?) based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken. It was published in the monthly Japanese Animal House magazine in issues 5 and 7 of that year.
In 1990, a sequel is made to Ourou entitled Ourou Den (王狼伝 ōrō den, The Legend of the Wolf King) that was published as a prequel to the original in Young Animal Magazine. In the same year, the 10th issue of Animal House witnesses the first volume of the solo project Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga titled Japan, that was published in Young Animal House from the 1st issue to the 8th of 1992, and was later released as a stand-alone tankōbon. Miura's fame grew after Berserk was serialized in Young Animal in 1992 with the release of "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of his masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary mangakas. At this time Miura dedicates himself solely to be working on Berserk. He has indicated, however, that he intends to publish more manga in the future.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. Various art books and supplemental materials by Miura based on Berserk are also released. In 1999, Miura made minor contributions to the Dreamcast video game Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage. 2004 saw the release of yet another video game adaptation entitled Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc: Chapter of the Record of the Holy Demon War.
Since that time, the Berserk manga has spanned 34 tankōbon with no end in sight. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan-made, ranging from statues, action figures to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentarou Miura received the second place in the Osamu Tezuka Culture Award of Excellence for Berserk.[1]
Miura provided the design for the Vocaloid Kamui Gakupo, whose voice is taken from the Japanese singer and actor, Gackt.
Miura passed away on May 6, 2021 at 2:48 p.m. due to acute aortic dissection.
Wow what a start to this volume! instant heart attack. Griffith Zodd Guts, oh god! i have enough just let these three fight forever, or maybe throw in the skeleton king in the mix as well. Before i talk about anything else in this issue, i have to point to the last two chapters! Some heavy stuff right there, profound amazing story about the origins of Serpico, and Farnese but from the point of view of Serpico as well. Griffith waging war against the Kushan empire, he is getting his kingdom nothing has changed But oooooh how wrong is Griffith this time, a lot has changed he has got Guts on his tail this time, and its just about time before he catches up to him, and kills his new defenders, and kills him as well, a death long deserved but, i just hope the angelic beauty of Griffith, and the fact that Casca seems to go gaga for Griffith, doesn't stop Guts from delivering that final blow. Griffith has a lot of strong warriors, who are flocking to his side sent to him by an oracle, and each and everyone of them is formidable in his own right, i wonder though if all of them are apostles like Zodd is, well i guess only time will tell. On to the next.
Absolutely incredible. Godly. First of all, Griffith is BACK, now in a messiah mode. He now looks even more gorgeous than before which is so UNFAIR, how am I supposed to hate the guy? 😩 FARNESE AND SERPICO’S BACKSTORY!!! I absolutely loved how beautifully tragic it was. I finally got the confirmation that Farnese’s been a mad bitch since day one, but at least now I know the reason behind it. Serpico though.... Best boy. 💔
Even between story arcs, things never slow down for Guts. Here we have the long-anticipated reunion with Griffith and, even more, rematch with Zodd. It's one of the best fights in the series.
Also, Griffith gets his world conquest going.
A lot of people like to go on about how "Griffith did nothing wrong", and I have to say I kind of half-agree with him. Not the "nothing wrong" part, no, but the "Griffith" bit: this is no longer Griffith, it's just a shell, inhabited by something far more foul than he ever was. While he was alive, he struggled against destiny and strived for ever higher position despite all odds being stacked against him. Now, he's basically godmodding his way through things. Griffith as we knew would have hated it. There's no challenge to it, just claiming what was promised to him.
And then what? Who knows, at this point, but it can't be good.
The start of the Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc
Guts and co get to Godot's place but the blacksmith is now dead. They join Rickert at the Hill of Swords (where all the old Band of the Hawk's are buried). *This hill was referenced in Elden Ring where there's multiple fields with swords in the ground. Rickert is talking with Griffith (he doesn't know that Griffith sacrificed them). Griffith explains that he feels zero guilt whatsoever. It's all about his dream.
Zodd and Guts fight.
Guts tells Rickert and Puck the story of the Eclipse.
Griffith goes to a city conquered by the Kushans and eventually starts a new Band of the Hawk.
We learn of Farneses's origin where she's a wealthy girl but has emotional issues eventually trying to burn down her family's home. Serpico also has a terrifying back-story where he had to burn his elderly mother alive as a witch.
During the battle with Zodd, the elf cave collapses. So now our crew need to find a new place to keep Casca safe.

Rate:5/5—————————top vol
"Every day mother forced me to bear more pride than I ever could. And every day the city robbed me of that pride completely. Before I knew it, I'd lost all expression...and no longer felt anything. I can't move. At this rate I'll be buried in snow."
"It's a storm!! You just need to become a storm yourself!!"
Odio a Griffith.
I am back to Berserk again after a long break. This volume was absolutely stunning, the mixture between the tragic story or stories told and the gorgeous art with a few casually wholesome moments is just unmatched by anything I have experienced before. I find it fitting to get back to the manga with this volume, it combines a lot of the elements that make Berserk what it is. You get poetic set up, epic action, character building moments, world building, a highlight of the two characters driving the conflict and last but not least a tragic backstory.
*spoilers*
My favorite parts of this volume would have to be the fight between Guts and Zod and the backstory of Serpico. I love the fact that we get to see the perspective of Ricket on both Guts's fight and Griffith, in a sense we get to understand how Guts is still living in the Eclipse, but only with one leg, we see the growth but also what remains. The entanglement of different emotions and conflicts that happens between Griffith, Guts, Ricket and Casca was just brilliant and he product of so much set up. I also like how a part of Griffith now is the baby of Casca and Guts and how that baby is a driving force inside of Griffith. He is the absolute evil of the story, but also now has withing him a piece that should not be there and that adds a very interesting dynamic that I cannot wait to see explored further. Serpico was a great character to see developed as well. He exposes a harsh and ugly reality about the world and people, yet his lens is not the one you expect see things through, he is in many ways atypical and to someone like him go through those experiences just pushes a certain cliche back into interesting territory. Suffering in the world of Berserk is multi-colored and shapeshifting, it sticks itself to people in different ways and grows to accommodate them and their circumstances. Sometimes it feels like too much, but then you remember that it doesn't have to adhere to any laws or rules of the real world, it follows its own nature that is fitting to the world. When Serpico finds his mother among the heretics you believe it, when he has to torch her himself, it just fits with his character and everything he went through, seeing his thoughts contrasted with his mother seeing him as his father and his action of burning her to death was just heartbreaking.
Berserk is amazing. The story is just incredible, dark, violent, and extremely compelling. (The anime's great too, I have to rewatch it.) We're in what must be the third big arc of the story, and it's definitely up there with the first arc. It's very hard to resist going back to the Alameda Borders to keep reading.
Forgot how enjoyable it is to just sit and read a volume. Griffith’s return is one of the coolest moments in the manga so far. The last bit on Farnese and Serpico is why this story is so engaging for me, these characters are so well written that I want to just spend time with them even if it’s in a context/world that I’m not usually into
