A Marriage Made in Mayfair

Rate this book
Miss Suzanna March wished for one thing: the elusive, rakish charmer, Lord Danning. But after a frightful first season such dreams are impossible. That is until she returns to London, a new woman, and one who will not let the ton's dislike of her stand in her way of gaining what she wants: revenge on the Lord who gave her the cut direct…

Lord Danning, unbeknown to his peers, is in financial strife and desperate to marry an heiress. Such luck would have it Miss Suzanna March fits all his credentials and seduction in his plan of action. Yes, the woman who returned from Paris is stronger, defiant, and a little argumentative, but it does not stop Lord Danning finding himself in awe and protective of her.

But will Suzanna fall for such pretty words from a charmer? Or will Lord Danning prove to Suzanna and himself that she is more than his ticket out of debtor's prison...?

I didn't like Royce in the beginning -- he was self-absorbed and self-important -- too concerned with fashion and appearances. His transformation is part of the story -- but I didn't see the catalyst for such a change. It felt too sudden. But, when he realized he was going to lose Suzanna because of his recklessness, I appreciated the honorable way he handled the situation.

I also loved the insight into London society: the ton itself consists of "good" ton and others. Suzanna tried to move in the same circles as Royce and Lady Victoria but found herself enjoying more the company and friendship of those considered "not good" ton.

"In all honesty, I came because Sir Blyth is one of my oldest and dearest friends. We attended Cambridge together."

...

"You're surprised?" he asked, mirth visible in his dark-blue orbs.

Suzanna shrughed. "Of course I am, my lord. I wouldn't have thought," she said in a lowered voice, "Sir Blyth was deemed good ton."

"He isn't, by high society's standards but by mine, of couse."

It gives readers a sense of how difficult it was for people like Suzanna to navigate the waters of London society and to figure out their place, considering the hierarchy in place.

I was recently poking through the Decadent Publishing catalog and when I spotted this title, I knew I would have to read it. A fortune hunter, a woman scorned, and the possibility of revenge? Oh yeah.

Suzanna was lovely, with just enough awkwardness underlying her new polish to keep her interesting, and March was surprisingly sympathetic as well. I loved the forbidden aspect of their romance, as well as the underlying hurt that Suzanna still had over March’s treatment of her in her first Season.

While the I Love You’s came a bit quickly, as is often the case in novellas, the storyline and chemistry were enough to make me overlook that.

In the end, this was a lovely, sweet romance, with just the right hint of steam, and I will definitely be picking up more titles from this author in the future.

This was a nice novella, I gave it 4 stars because it could have used a little bit more backstory. I was left a little bit confused with the dynamic of the first "season" and the interaction between Suzanna and Royce during that time frame.

Other than that it was a sweet short read that fit with the time period.

Suzanna March’s first London season left her feeling humiliated as she was snubbed by the man she had a crush on, the dashing Lord Danning. She fled the ballroom and the country, ending up in Paris to learn proper comportment and gaining a french maid to work miracles.

Lord Danning (or Royce), after the extravagance of his lifestyle and his brothers gambling habits finds himself with little money. Thus he designs to marry a rich heiress but he doesn’t intend to fall in love. He always noticed Miss March and finds her enchanting, even more after her transformation.

Suzanna is still mad at Lord Danning for giving her the cut, she sets out to seduce him and then leave. However, she doesn’t plan on falling in love. But matters come to light about his brother being indebted to her brother that must be resolved before Suzanna can trust that Royce isn’t after her sizable dowry.

I have liked this Regency series, part I have real troubles with certain aspects as they’re not entirely historically accurate. Thus I feel I am unable to give the series a higher rating.

Love or money

Suzanna was given an embarrassing set down by Royce last season! She fled to Paris to become polished and we'll groomed so she no longer reeked of trade! Royce is almost penniless thanks to his love of horseflesh and his brothers gambling debts! The new improved Susanna has caught his eye and his heart Susanna knows he could pursue other debutantes and she is told repeatedly by her brother that Royce is insincere and a cad only after her money! But Royce goes to extreme lengths to prove his love and just in time! I still think Susanna should have accepted the offer that would protect her assets and her heart! In the end Royce proved honorable as their were other options open to him! Love the ending!

This is book 3 in Gill's Scandalous London series and was a quick listen for me - captivating and steamy! Well written with smooth flowing storyline. Narration is perfectly done - smooth and easy to listen to. A beautiful story of revenge and forgiveness. I loved the different sides we see in Suzanna, from timid to fierce I loved how Gill is able to show there are so many sides to us as women. I also loved Lord Danning and how is character grows and develops. A story of for love or money - Gill definitely delivers the sweet and steam in this one. I loved it!

I received this as part of a collection (books 1-3) for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

A Marriage Made in Mayfair is the third novella in the Scandalous London series. It was not as engaging as the previous two novellas. The lead characters lacked chemistry and the plot felt aimless.

A Gentleman’s Promise: 4- stars
A Captain’s Order - A Duke’s Command: 3+ stars
A Marriage Made in Mayfair: 3- stars

Miss Suzanna March was a Heroine caught in the censure of rules of the Ton.

Lord Royce Danning was a Hero I did not grow to like. At all. He was self-absorbed.

I recommend this series.

Length-wise, I think this one was the best suited for being a shorter book. The only thing I'd change, I think that the last part with the main hero getting out of prison happened way too quickly. But still, I think I enjoyed this one maybe the most from this series, and I'll definitely read more by Gill sometime.

Great read!

I so enjoyed Susannah and Royce’s love story. This series has been well written and the characters are endearing. Tamara knows how to turn up the heat and grab the reader’s attention and keep it throughout the book.

Royce and Suzanne are interesting characters whom I enjoyed. I enjoyed their interactions and exchanges. I wish one of the subplots had been more ferreted out, but otherwise a good read.

Chirp Audiobook

A story of redemption for a Lord from London. He & his brother have brought their estate to ruin. When his brother gambles too much to a man who feels his sister has been wronged by the Lord, he feels his only option is to marry a wealthy Lady.

I have to say, I was not impressed by Lord Danning pissing away his fortune (with the help of his profligate brother). He was told far in advance that his money was dwindling. He cold bloodily believes he can get any heiress or lady with a dowry.

Suzanna was the unfortunate recipient of a show of temper by the Lord. She has spent the past year working on improving her style & manners. Her goal is to get the Lord to fall in love with her & then leave him heartbroken.

The two of them fall in lust pretty quickly. But is it to last or is it even real?

Second chances historical English romance.
Miss Suzanna March ran away after a disastrous first season in the high society of the 'ton'. She's back for a second helping, but this time with an all new Parisian wardrobe and a good attitude. She is back to find love and marriage and perhaps get revenge from Lord Danning who ruined her season.
Lord Danning needs to find a rich wife immediately because he is broke. So he goes after a rich young lady that he fancied before, Miss Suzanna. This is a case of primary school boy pulling the braids of the girl he likes because he doesn't know how to be nice to attract his beloved.
Usual courtship with a stay in debtors prison and then a HEA marriage at Gretna Green, Scotland.
Cute story with some realistic moments about the strict hierarchy of the class system in England at that time where money could only buy a small amount of respectability.
83 pages but felt like a full 150ish page story

A marriage made in Mayfair by Tamara Gill

I thought this was a very good book! Susanna was an insecure young lady humiliated in her first season by the man she had a huge crush on and was devastated! And she fled the ballroom and the country! After securing more training and a French maid to work miracles and turned her into a diamond! Royce noticed her right off the bat and he had just found out he was broke! So her brother Henry knew because Royce was indebted to him because of his brother and Henry thought he was after her for her money so it wasn't easy to convince her that he was sincere in his feelings for her. After much conflict between them she believed him and approached her brother about marriage! Needless to say that didn't go over well! I don't want to give any spoilers on the ending so I will stop here and say that you should read this book it's great!!

I wish authors don't waste their words on secondary characters in novellas; with a short story maximum of the pages should be spent with H/H interaction and their character development. That was my only complaint about this book otherwise a cute story.

I really enjoyed this one. I really wish she would have made this story a full novel instead of a novella, this could have been a book i would have fallen hard for, but instead i feel like the rug was pulled out from under me just when i started to fall in love with the characters and the story.
