This was such an exciting great read! Kathryn Le Veque is such a great writer you can't help but get swept up in her characters and story from the first chapter. Loved the Scorpion and Annavieve as well as all the other characters. Gripping story well recommended!!!
This is book three in the 'de Wolfe Pack' series. I have read all the books so far but easily feel that this is a standalone book. Sir Kevin Hage has loved his childhood friend all his life. But when she is about 20 the King has set up a marriage for her with a Welch Boarder lord. Kevin understand the reason but he does tries to talk her into leaving her husband and go with him. She does not. This takes Kevin into a mind set that he will through himself into warfare. Kevin travels to The Levant to fight the Muslim infidels and stays there for about six years. When he comes back the King has set him to be the Captain of Arms for a Duke who also his the King's cousin. Lady Annavieve has lived in a convent since she was a baby. Now she has been brought to the Kings notice to marry his cousin the Duke. Lady Annavieve and the Duke donot want to marry each other but that does not stop the king. The Duke does not prefer women and likes men instead. So he takes Kevin in to his confidence and orders him to bed Lady Annavieve and to do so until she is with child. That was the reason the King wanted the Duke to marry her so that he may get a someone to leave his title too. Kevin starts to realize that he might be over his first love after all because he finds himself falling in love with Lady Annavieve. Lady Annavieve also is having a hard time from not falling in love with him. I enjoyed this book and so far the series. I hope that you will enjoy it too.
. What a roller coaster ride! Having just completed this page-turner, I'm still reeling. There are so many seemingly impossible hurdles thrown into the path of these two star-crossed main characters, I just couldn't see how it could turn out where they would end up together. And, that is the hallmark of a great novel.
I experienced every emotion possible reading this epic masterpiece: rage, fear, shock, anger, sadness, disgust, anticipation, surprise and, ultimately, joy. This novel has it all. There was never a dull moment with so many hidden mysteries that are slowly brought to light. Both of the main characters have been hurt by events that were beyond their control. Forced together in the most vile and depraved of circumstances, they find a love that defies all logic. But that love turns out to be the most logical thing of all.
For some background on Sir Kevin Hage, I encourage everyone to read "The Serpent" by Kathryn Le Veque before reading "Scorpion." "Scorpion" can be read as a stand alone, but "The Serpent" will add to your understanding of the depth of the character that is Sir Kevin Hage. He is a magnificent hero who finds his happily ever after with the lovely Annavieve de Ferrers. And, as always with any Kathryn Le Veque novel, the writing is impeccable.
As well written as any LeVeque book heretofore, I just couldn't enjoy a story whose premise throughout the entire book is blatant adultery, pregnancies and all - even if the disgusting reasons make it completely understandable. Honor and character are such strong themes in LeVeque books that having a hero overlook it as the situation warrants, just didn't ring true for me. Totally a personal preference thing.
Kevin Hage, Scorpion, having lost his lady love to another man, spent six years in the Levant fighting the infidel. Upon his return to England, Kevin, Adonis de Norville and Thomas de Wolfe become involved in a tavern brawl and a young Viscount is killed.
Kevin is summoned to appear before King Edward I who has heard of his reputation as Scorpion and wishes to meet him. As a reward for his reputation as a legendary knight, he is given to the Duke of Dorset. In truth, this was a bribe to convince Dorset to marry Annavieve Fitz Roderick.
This book also contains many errors, although the story is not to be missed. I continue to hope that Ms. Le Veque will find a competent proofreader.
This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review. Also my tags may have spoilers in them so be forewarned before checking out full review.
First Impressions Scorpion is the long awaited story of Kevin Hage. Who was featured as the lost suitor in Penelope's story in The Serpent and is also the long lost son whose father recently passed away. (I am still on the fence on how I feel about this author killing off her characters even if they are older haha) I honestly didn't know how I felt about this story. I almost DNF because I wasn't sure that I was in the correct mood for this type of story. However, I can say that I absolutely fell hard for this story and this type of forbidden love I was NOT expecting but whew this author really made it work out so well in the end.
First Line "Watch your head!"
The Main Protagonists The Hero: Sir Kevin Hage (The Scorpion) The Heroine: Lady Annavieve
Summary Scorpion features the son of Hage and de Wolfe, Sir Kevin Hage, who has spent years fighting and has finally returned home and when he makes his report to the king he learns of the tragic news of his father's death and is reassigned to serve a arrogant but powerful lord in the kingdom. Lady Annavieve has been raised in a convent and finds herself married to the King's cousin who is also a Duke. A man who is secretly gay, and has no wish or want for a wife. When he learns that the King is demanding he bear a child with her, he forces his new Knight, Sir Kevin to lay with her and be the father of his child. Both Kevin and Annavieve is forced into a situation out of their control and through the course of events they fall hard for each other. But any tenderness or love is forbidden because she is another man's wife.
What I Loved There are many aspects to the story that I actually really enjoyed. The first is the character growth that we see from both Kevin and Annavieve. Both are strong-willed characters as they both have had tough lives and had to overcome much adversity. We also see how these two are just so willing to do their duty above all else. I really liked what a fabulous heroine Annevieve actually was. She could be soft and feminine, but she also was willing to stand by Kevin when it mattered most and I just loved that about her. She had such resilience and courage that I connected with. Kevin is a hero that has had to turn his heart cold to survive being the type of warrior and knight that he needed to be. But seeing how he slowly softens and warms up to Annavieve was delightful. I also appreciated how the sex scenes were written. I love how they are written in a way that details what is happening but at the same time not overly explicit as sex scenes don't need to be in my opinion.
What I Struggled With The conflict that arises involves some cheating aspects was something that did push me a bit, I am not a fan of cheating in any regard, so I definitely had to learn to be patient with this story here. I also think I wasn't quite in the right mood for such a forbidden romance so I do think if I had been in a better mindset and also my recent health issues most likely also contributed to not being able to enjoy it as much as I would have liked to.
Narration Brad Wills did a brilliant job as he always tends to do with these books so all I can say is BRAVO!
Overall View Scorpion is a story that packs quite an intense punch! Its exhilarating, vibrant and hits a different spot than I am used to with this author! You can't go wrong with a Le Veque if you love a solid medieval romance.

Warmin' by the fire- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments. -even though the author has a bit more detailed scenes, they aren't explicit much.
Sir Kevin Hage seems to be doomed to never have the woman he loves no matter what he tries to do. Fate, though, steps in. Love returns for Kevin but not easily. It will take his strength and her fortitude to surmount the odds so they can be together.
Kevin Hage is broken hearted by the love of his life, she has married another. He gets as far away as he can and builds a wall around that broken heart, with his friends Sir Adonis de Norville and Sir Thomas de Wolfe he heads to the Levant, and there he becomes “The Scorpion” After 6 years fighting alongside the Templers and Hospitallers as a hired assassin, Kevin is a man feared by all, as he strikes fast and death always follows. Tired of being in the heat and sand they long for the green hills of England and their families, they decide to go home, once there they find themselves at a tavern were Kevin gets into a fight and accidently kills a man whose death will have a huge effect on his life. I love all of Kathryn Le Veques books and you get so involved with some of the wonderful characters she greats. This is a story of love lost and love found, the beautiful Annavieve helps break down that wall and a love for all time comes to be, but not before a lot of things and events are thrown in their path. The story has grief from the loss of a parent, a couple of villains’ one a murderer and the other the Kings cousin who is ordered to marry Annavieve, a more hateful person I couldn’t imagine. Do they get their happy ever after, well yes but not until a lot of twists and turns are thrown in their path. Well that’s all I will say about the book I don’t want to be a spoiler and give away too much of the story, I know you will enjoy this book and the wonderful characters within, some of which you will recognize from some of Kathryn’s other books. I highly recommend all of them to you so happy reading.
Kevin Hage returns from six years in the Levant with his closest friends Adonis de Norville and Thomas de Wolfe. Nursing a broken heart, which is why he left England, he has now become England's best known killer and assassin, his deadly strike has caused him to be known as The Scorpion. Now he has been gifted to the Duke of Dorset, as despicably spiteful, vile and cruel man, who puts Kevin in a most dreadful position, after the Duke is forced to marry the beautiful Annavieve by the king. But love grows in the strangest of circumstances and as their love affair begins, this wonderfully emotional and gentle love story grows... Kathryn Le Veque is a wizard with words and she carefully and cleverly engulfs you into the middle of this love/hate story, which will immediately pull at your heart strings, with the passion and emotion making your heart ache. Annavieve is from royal Welsh extract, taken away from her mother by the King and imprisoned into Sempringham Convent, where she has been alone all her life, without knoledge of the outside world, without happiness and love. That is until she and Kevin come together. As the book progesses and Kevin and Annavieve fall more and more in love, stumbling blocks occur in every chapter, pushing their happy ending further and further away. Kathryn Le Veque always brings this medieval time to life, explaining honour, rules of marriage, and behaviour in those times with her vividly descriptive writing. I loved this book right up until the very last page. A fabulous read with wonderful characters.
Sir Kevin Hage has been a mercenary in the Levant for the last six years, but recently he and his friends decided it was past time to go home. He has a reputation as a deadly killer and is called the Scorpion. No sooner do they land in Dover when the trouble really starts. The King has heard about him and will decide what happens.
Annavieve has been raised in a convent. Sent there by a King who wants all traces of Welsh royalty whiped away. Now he's pulled her out of the convent to make use of her.
This is a very exciting story full of battles and danger. Our huge hero has more honour than his new boss ever had. The situation looks to be impossible. There are lots of secrets being kept, some far too dangerous to be told.
So many secrets....kept, revealed and ultimately paid for!
Evil reaps what evil sows while honor and goodness triumph and ultimately pure love prevails!! I loved Sir Kevin Hage and Lady Annavieve's story and was very happy that they persevered and were able to finally escape the perversion and corruption of the Duke of Dorset! When will Kings/leading powers ever learn to stop playing with people's lives trying to force them into unwanted situations and circumstances that almost always lead to chaos and destruction?? Another smashing story well penned my queen of Medieval lore, Kathryn Le Veque 😊
The author is exceptional of course I just wished that some areas in the book where the story was taken a little further especially the ending where characters stories were either ended abruptly or nothing was said about them. I assume that these will be stories to be continued in her other stories (which I have seen in her other novels ☺) but I was speaking of the Duchess parents and their stories even if it was a brief story like what happened to her father 😐. Overall the book is great as usual👍
This book has all the love and suspence of all her books. What I loved about this book was Kevin being set free and happy, truly happy at last. A lot of books I am able to figure out the plots and endings, with this book, I sat on the edge of my chair and couldn't put down until all was resolved.
Thoroughly enjoyed Scorpion as I have all the others in this Series. On to the next book, Dark Destroyer. Thank you Kathryn for sharing your imagination. Must be wonderful to live in your head. Love your books!
Kevin Hage and his close friends, Thomas and Adonis have recently returned from 6 years in the Levant where he earned a reputation and the name Scorpion. He is immediately summoned by the king. The king gifts him to the Duke of Dorset. He also awards the Duke a new wife, Annavieve, who is a Welsh princess. The Duke does not want a wife and orders Kevin to consummate the marriage for him. That’s when the troubles begin. I won’t give it away but it is quite an interesting story.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.
We meet Sir Keith , when his childhood love married another man in another episode. Now 6 years later, and after spending his time in the Holy Lands, making a name for himself, he is returned, only to be handed to an unscrupulous Lord, by the King. However, he is to find love and all his heart desires, but he has a few trials and tribulations to go through first.
You know when you read an entire series in order, you tend to get a bit oh him with each passing book. NOT SO with this book or this author. Before I could think oh well the story grabbed me and held on for dear life! When you think it will go one way you get surprised with another turn of events. Kathryn Le Veque never lets you down. Before you know it you'll be so engrossed you can't put it down
Sorrow-filled and dejected spends 6 years burying his pain fighting in the Holy Land. Coming back to England he hopes to move forward with one hard after another. Incredibly he finds a special love that unlocks his hardened heart, reviving and renewing him, but drama keeps unfolding in twists and turns. Does Kevin find his happily ever-after? A beautiful happy ending for Kevin and Annevieve. pamarella PRCS
I have fallen so deep into Medieval Scotland with the De Wolfe series. I love the characters that are interwoven, not to mention the history too. I have always loved ancient history and Kathryn Le Veque's series are just what I need. Onto book number 11!!
I so enjoyed this story of Kevin de Wolfe. What a embracing story of love and life. It held my attention to the very end. I only wish there had been a few more chapters on the settling of Kevin and Annavieves life. I am engrossed in the de Wolfe family and can't wait to read the next book.
I read somewhere that Le Veque was told to cut down on the length of her stories. Maybe she needed to, I don’t know, but there are times when I feel like there definitely could have been more to the story. This book being a good example. I felt like she just got the story all set up and it was going to get exciting and adventurous when a few pages later she wrapped it up. It was a little bit of a letdown.
Kevin loved Penelope but never really told her how he felt. Then Penelope was offered as a bride to Brodie, a Welshman, to assist in a peace move. Penelope and Brodie were very much alike and fell in love. So what was Kevin to do? He became the Scorpion. Who would have thought that he would meet his bride during this adventure.
Kevin, son of Kieran Hage comes home from the Levant after 6 years as an assassin. While passing through Dover a messenger met him to tell him that King Edward wanted to see him. Before leaving Dover to see the king they stop at a tavern and a fight breaks out and Roger the son of the earl of Salisbury was killed. This was an exciting story.
Scorpion, book 10 of Kathryn LeVeque’s De Wolfe Pack series is a sensational read! Im so happy that Kevin Hage finally finds a love that is returned, but oh the trials they have to endure to find their happily ever after. This book is full of action and deeds that test the honor of any knight, even one that’s a trained assassin, like the Scorpion. Fantastic!
I can't put this series down! I have laughed and cried and cheared! This author's made me one happy reader! She's fresh and unpredictable! I've been benging her book's . Im so glad she's written so many And that most of them cross over each other so I never have to give up my favorite characters! Thank you 😊🤗💓 keep them coming 😘💕
I have loved this Series, but Scorpion was not as good as the other books have been. A disservice to Kieran’s memory. If books in the series are going to spin off on to Kieran’s sons, then I would have liked those to have the same deep emotion that the other books with the de Wolfe sons have had.
Talk about plot twists and turns, this one had me chewing nails in anticipation of what was going to happen next. It never ceases to amaze how Le Veque comes up with these plots, but it's even more amazing how they are resolved. Hang on for the ride, you will not be disappointed!
