Crypt

A surprisingly VERY short story that was captivating, but left you wanting. A creepy tale but by no means will it require a change of underwear. Great read for a coffee break.

This was a very, very quick but entertaining little vampire story! Short, quick and we get to the point right away. I had a lot of fun reading this, and I’m not even a huge fan of vampires. It was nice to see Darcy do something different then ghosts and haunted houses (not that those things are ever bad).
My only SMALL complaint is that it was too short! 😮 I wanted to know so much more about this old town! It would have made an excellent full length novel. I was very entertained and it had a great ending. Very surprising. Maybe one day she’ll revisit this town. That would be awesome!

I'm pretty new to short stories but was in the mood for a good mystery or even some horror so I gave this author a chance after seeing a recommendation here on goodreads.
The story didn't go as expected, I was kind if missing the WOW- moment, but it was gripping and the author's description of the cemetary and crypt was very good so I had no problem finding myself there. Hemce, I'm going to read more from this author.

Well written, but nothing unique or original in the short story of a girl who discovers a vampire. I liked this better than ‘The Carrow Haunt.’

There are two parts to this short. The first is a story told to Sara by her friend, Julie, who loves to entertain her visitors. The second part of the story follows Sara as she investigates - on a whim - Julie's childhood tale.
Julie's tale provides backstory of the town and cemetery, as well as the mysterious deaths of Julie's childhood friend and his brother. The story is told with enough mystery that even I wanted to venture into the crypt to search for the missing - and presumed dead - boy.
Though I suspected the ending, it was still entertaining to read because of the suspense. What I loved most about this short story is the detailed description of the creature in the crypt. I visualized it very clearly and I immediately regretted wanting to check out the creepy abandoned crypt. Though, poor Sara never had the chance to regret her curiosity.
Very satisfying and well written short story. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, haunting read.

Chilling short story
I usually don't go out of my way to read short stories unless they're in an anthology. But I'm glad I downloaded this little horrific gem.
The story is told in two parts. The first part is where the town gossip tells Sara about some of the past history of their town - and cemetery. The second part is where Sara decides to do some exploring on her own of the original cemetery in the town.
Great descriptions, enough to tantalize but not too much. And it had some spooky moments - all I could want in a horror short story.

I read this as the last of 3 short stories bundled with "The Folkcroft Ghosts" (others were Clockwork & Sub Basement), and this was my 2nd favorite of the three. It's a good story told in 2 parts. I think I liked part 1 a little bit more, but both were good. It's more of a mystery than a creepy story.

Very very short story. Didn't last as long as my cigarette. Wasn't scary and even as a short story, it could have been fleshed out a bit more. Did nothing to make me.want.to read more of Coates' work.

Sara visiting Julie to listen to the towns history would have been so fun! The is a great horror story, the history of an old cemetery and an old tomb, which Sara couldn't walk away, she had to go there...

This is a quick read about the main character, Sara, looking into a town legend and finding out that it's true. The vampire description was good, but the story itself is just ok. A lot of focus was placed on how much the characters weigh.

It was a good, fun read. My only problem with it, was that it wasn't longer. Lol. I will definitely be reading more work from this author.

I love the combination of mystery, history, and monsters. It was really good. I think the whole story could be expanded upon and turned into a movie.

I really like her style of writing. This reminded me of a Buffy episode, simple and quick, but still fun. I haven't tried any of her full length novels yet, but soon.

This is a wonderful short horror story from Darcy Coates Quarter to midnight fifteen tales of horror and suspense book. In the 1960s in a small town two young boys and brothers go exploring in the local cemetery and the youngest. Goes missing, the older brother swears they were attacked by a vampire but no one believes him when the body of his younger brother turns up they rule it an accident but the brother never forgets and when he’s older decides to go after the monster who killed his brother but disappears. Fifty years later a young woman named Sara is listening to a local named Julie who tells her about the crypt and the brothers who went missing which leads Sara to go exploring the crypt from the story but she learns sometimes it’s better not to poke the beast. This Is a wonderful short story to read. Darcy Coates is a talented storyteller she writes amazing horror and gothic haunted suspense books I definitely recommend reading any of her books if you love, supernatural suspense, horrors, gothic haunted books then you should read anything by Darcy Coates.

Yet another wonderfully creepy short story by Darcy Coates. She's quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This one starts out normally enough, but it quickly escalates into something the reader knows is...not quite right. Darcy is really good at building suspense, and, thankfully, she delivers explanations, rather than always leaving the reader with an ambiguous ending. Whether you have or haven't read anything by Darcy before, I recommend giving this one (and some of her other works) a shot.

This was given to me for an honest review. I love scary stories, and this was a quick fix. It is a short story about the possibilities of vampires in a small town and how a relatively new resident in town decides to go looking. A long-time resident tells her the story of a child that goes missing and later turns up dead, and how later, his older brother due to guilt when to confront the said vampire. He has been missing for quite some time so now she has a free afternoon and decides to check it out. I loved the ending.

Wow this book was so scarry,i loved reading about the town mystery and the cemetery,I so wish it would of been a longer book .what happened to the brothers .the events took place 50 years before when the little brother mysteriously disappeared.no one ever knew the full story except his older brother.then the older brother disappears.what is the tragic secret of the crypt..

It wasn't the worst I've ever read, by any means, but it wasn't the absolute best either. One thing I really love about Darcy Coates stories is she's very descriptive, which makes the reader feel like they are in that moment. It's only a short story, I don't feel it would be a waste of time. Find a dark room and sit quietly and just read!!! Enjoy!!!

a little longer that the others, this one is pretty interesting too, a tragedy and a mystery, a vampire created by the imagination of a child after his brother's death or maybe it's something more real more sinister happening on this little town.
