Addison realizes that something is amiss when she delves into the mystery of why two sisters died at the manor of Rosecliff as a lot of the townspeople think it was just an accident but the more Addison investigates of what happened the more she seems to think that it was no accident and something else happened!
That is about all I can give on a small backstory so if you want to know more then go read this series!
Thoughts:
I really like this series by the author, Cheryl Bradshaw and I have decided to continue on with the series as I read the first book about three years ago and I own all the books in the series. The stories are stand alone too - the only connection is some of the main characters. All the stories are different.
I love all the characters in this series and the story moved quickly once it got going. It started out a little slow with a small buildup of background information of what was taking place in the story but once the mystery started to deepen then the pace picked up.
Once I was past the 40% mark the story just took off and I felt myself caught up in a wind storm of pace as I was flipping through the pages faster as the mystery of the story intensified and I wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next! Looking forward to continuing on with the series to see what mystery Addison finds herself in next! Giving this book four "Mysterious Ghosts" stars!
Addison is a medium, a young woman who is able to see the dead. When she sees twin girls playing in a cemetery, at first she thinks they are living. Addison then gets involved with a 40 -year-old mystery; were their tragic deaths only an accident, or something more sinister? . This is the second book in the Addison Lockhart series, and I am very interested in catching up by reading the first one. With Addison, the author has created a charming protagonist, a young lady who just recently discovered her power, and is still learning how to use it. The characters are fresh and witty, and the storyline is engrossing. The twist in the story are sure to keep the reader on their toes. I've enjoyed every over of Bradshaw's books I've read, and this one didn't disappoint me. . My Rating: 4.25/5 stars
Rosecliff Manor Haunting by Cheryl Bradshaw is the 2nd in the Addison Lockhart paranormal mystery series.
Series Background: (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books) Addison Lockhart is a medium, like her mother and grandmother before her. Her talent only really manifested itself when she inherited Grayson Manor, upon her mother’s passing. As a child, her gifts vanished when she was convinced they didn’t really exist. Now she is learning to use her gift to help others. Her boyfriend, Luke, is a restorer of historical homes. He knows Addison’s story and tries to help her.
My Synopsis: Addison awakes from a dream where twin girls in yellow dresses are playing. One approaches her and begs her to remember. The other stays away. Addison quickly realizes these girls are dead, and have not moved on. She is determined to learn their story and help them.
However, their death seems to be a sensitive subject for many people, including their mother. No one wants to talk about the “accident”, but Addison is sure that this was much more than accidental, and someone is hiding the truth.
My Opinions: Although the characters are likable, and the plot interesting, the story is very lightweight, and the police behaviour unbelievable. As a ghost story, it is definitely lacking the fear factor.
However, there is nothing wrong with the writing, and if you treat it like fast light entertainment, which I believe it was meant to be, you will not be disappointed.
I am still looking forward to the next one - because everyone needs a light and easy read now and then.
This is the 2nd book in the Greystone Manor series. It is a paranormal thriller. Addison Lockhart is getting "visions" of two little girls, Vivian and Grace Clark who died years ago. The small town is up in arms about her "stirring up" trouble. The girls' mother and brother are not cooperating in helping find out exactly happened to them. Addison's boyfriend, and grandmother are supportive of Addison. Addison has a neighbor that knows somethings about the family, but isn't giving out information too willingly. Does Addison find out what happened To Vivian and Grace? Will they finally get to be reunited with their departed father and move on to the after life? Read the book and find out who was responsible for this terrible crime.
I Loved the first book in this series and was very excited about this book. It did not disappoint. I spent the night reading it and was intrigued with Addison talking to the girls and wanted to know how they died. I also was so happy to see the relationship with Luke progress. The story kept me so engrossed I could not put it down. I was also happy that Rose now knows what happened to the girls. I was worried about how I would feel if Addison was able to solve the mystery and they would have to leave but Mrs. Bradshaw came up with an ending that made me happy. I cannot wait for more and would Highly suggest you read this book. It was a really good book! I want more!
I probably enjoyed this one even more than Grayson Manor Haunting which was also a 5* read. Plus this one had fewer errors as well, I'd say, so even better !! I always read her Sloane Monroe series and greatly enjoy those but must admit I prefer this series. However, she's only done the two books thus far. I do hope there will be more to come sometime. Once again she manages not to head off into fantasyland with the story, staying this side of believable and for that I'm very grateful. It was nice to see how Addison was getting on and catch up with her. I was disappointed that it was such a fast read, though. Now I know writers from across the pond often drop words from sentences...BUT in one paragraph she did yet on the very next page she didn't. so I read "A couple minutes earlier" and then she wrote (properly) with "...a couple of months earlier". We lose of from this sentence as well-"....that was the core everything" and we lose in from this sentence-"...a gun was pointed her direction" and on the very same page this time it's do-"Why you think" and then Robertson in one place morphed into Roberston !! In her favour there was only one apostrophe mistake which is really good going and the dropping of "small words" appears to be an e-book staple these days. Something clearly occurs with formatting choosing to wipe them out. For some reason it's never being picked up by proofreaders or publishers, however. Let's hope Ms Bradshaw will do more in this series, though....please ?
Mystery. Mediums. Ghosts. Murder? What more can you ask for in a book?
I am going to start out here by saying that, yes, this is the second book in a series and although I didn't read the first one (although I am definitely going to find it now!) I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. The author did an excellent job at recapping any important information from the first book so that this could be read as a standalone.
This book immediately drew me in with amazing characters, creepy storyline and a mystery that left me guessing until the end. The length is perfect for a one-sitting read and, believe me, you won't want to put it down!
Fans of The Ghost Whisperer (remember that show?) and anyone looking for a great late night ghost story will absolutely love Rosecliff Manor Haunting!
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book. This might be my first Cheryl Bradshaw book but it is not about to be my last!
I can see myself liking this series and the main character, more and more as things progress. I like the idea of a mystery wrapped in a ghost story, especially when well executed. These are done well but the execution can be a little tricky. The characters are good and seem to have grown a little from the first story along with their relationships.
At the funeral for the first spirit, she helps Addison see two girls playing near a grave, and though she wonders where their parents might be she soon forgets the incident. But when she dreams about the twins, a dream that seems very real at the time she wonders if there could be more to it. Vivian and Grace were full of life but have been dead for 40 years and no one knows if it was truly an accident or if they were murdered. So they can move on Addison needs to find out, for them and their mother.
There are ups and downs as Addison figures out how to handle looking into the death of someone. Luke is nice enough but also super annoying in the way he treats her family. The mystery is very good because of the fact that it happened so long ago and the suspects were minors you can see that it makes it even harder to track.
This is the second book in the series and I hope there are more to come as I have fallen in love with Luke and Addison. It also includes other characters that play a roll in the stories as well. In this story Addison is visited by the ghosts of twins girls who died under odd circumstances years earlier. As she tries to find out hat happen to them she is faced with her neighbors death and the return of her grandmother which leads investigators back to her door. Will Luke and Addison be able to solve this case in time before time runs out for one or both of them? The story line was good and had enough twists going to keep me guessing till the end to figure out who the murder was. If you want a good mystery with a few children ghost popping in this would be perfect for you.
A paranormal series about woman who helps spirits move on by figuring out what is keeping them here and what they need to move on.
Addison Lockhart just recently came into her powers. She is living in Greyson Manor which she recently acquired after the death of her mother. The first book had her reacquainting with her grandmother who informed her that all the women in their family are psychic mediums. She is still struggling to come to terms with this but her boyfriend Luke Flynn is very supportive which helps her deal.
The spirits that need her help in this book are 11 year old twins who died 40 years ago. Each book takes us through Addison getting clues from both the afterlife and from her investigation in the real world to solve reason's the spirits haven't moved on.
What a well-written , good paranormal mystery should be!
You will find that this book is a fast read but very interesting . The story deserves five stars because the idea for the plot is different , so many mysteries and paranormal redundant and I lose interest quickly . Not this book! I like the human side of it the emotions a little bit of a love story and a nice mixture paranormal mix in a great plot interesting characters and what you have is a great book to curl up with and enjoy yourself .
This was a very easy book to read over just a few days. I read Book 1 of the Addison Lockhart series first and was entertained enough to get the second one in the series. I won't go into details about the plot as that is easy to obtain from the publisher summary or by reading other reviews.
I find the main character, Addison Lockhart, very believable. She has her personal doubts and doesn't come across as self-centered. She is developing her skills as a Medium, but doesn't have over-confidence in her capabilities yet. So, we get to see her evolving as she works on each new ghostly encounter. The mystery behind each "haunting" and Addison's development as a Medium are the main threads that keep the plot moving.
Also, the other characters surrounding Addison are developing in each book. There is a boyfriend Luke, a grandmother Majorie, and a new friend Lia, who is a medical examiner in the county where Addison lives. I particularly like that Luke has his own career and while he clearly cares a great deal for Addison, the relationship doesn't overwhelm the story. Addison doesn't seem to suffer any girlish angst which would just slow down the story and just become distracting.
Similarly, Addison is learning more about her grandmother who has just recently become part of Addison's life. The grandmother seems to have some mystery surround her history which started to unravel in the first book and continues to add to her character development in the second book.
I am not familiar with Rhinebeck, New York which is the setting for the books. There hasn't been much time spent on describing the area. We learned in the first two books that there are several manor homes in the area. So, it might be nice to get a little more description of the vicinity and the residents.
Overall, there is enough mystery to make the series interesting to follow. I look forward to reading the next book.
This is book 2 from the Addison Lockhart series. Just a note, I have not read the first book of the series, however it did not make the book difficult to read or understand as this was a different haunting. You could read these books separately as I have, or as a series. That is just my opinion though. Addison is a medium, she has the gift that has been in her mother's side of the family for generations. She can see people who have died and who need her help to cross over. In this story Addison has a dream where girl twins come to her. Addison then tries to piece together who the girls are, where are they from, and why they are having trouble crossing over. The girls were 11 year old Grace and Vivian who had died 40 years ago. Vivian is forthcoming when talking to Addison, where Grace is shy and unsure. Vivian is aware that they died but she thinks that Grace hasn't accepted it and therefore it is making crossing over more difficult. Addison needs to solve the mystery behind how the young girls died so that they can be free.
This was a very good book to read. I love these type of ghost whisperer stories where how they died must be solved so that the spirit can freely cross over. It was written very well and was a good mystery. I read this book in about 2 days. It was a succinct book and I would of been more than happy to read a little more detail in it. Some books are far to long and are far to detailed and leave you bored and just wanting it to end, not so with this book.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in return to my honest review. Thank you to the Author and Publisher for a copy of the book.
Holy creepers that book cover !!! Nothing says haunted like a “Chucky” look-a-like doll in an attic window.
“Rosecliff Manor Haunting” is book 2 of the Addison Lockhart series. I haven't read book 1 “Grayson Manor Haunting” . . . yet. I will be looking for it now though.
There is a sneak peak of book 3 in this series “Blackthorn Manor Haunting” at the end of this book also. Being honest, I did NOT read the sneak peak BECAUSE I can't stand to read a sneak peak... get excited... and then can't get the book because its not published yet, or not even ready to send out an ARC. I absolutely sure it will be fabulous. I'm also sure that I WILL read the 3rd book in the future.
Addison Lockhart is a psychic medium, as was her mother, and as is her grandmother. In Addison's family, this gift is passed down the maternal line, from mother to daughter. Being a medium is not a gift that you can choose . . . or “turn off”. You also don't get to choose when, where, who or how the dead come to you.
When Addison saw the two twin girls playing in the cemetery, waved and one of the girls spoke to Addison, she thought they were real. She didn't realize they were dead – until they controlled her dream and brought her to the iron gates of their home, Rosecliff Manor.
What follows is a paranormal mystery and suspense, full of deceit, anger, danger and hope for resolution.
This wasn't an evil, vengeful haunting. It was more of an innocent, playful haunting – for the dead anyway. But you don't have to worry about gruesome nightmares after reading this book.
Great book and I could easily recommend it to readers age 14 and older. It would be an excellent School Library book.
I enjoyed book 1, Grayson Manor, so much that I immediately went about reading book two. And it did not disappoint.
The ending of book 1 sets up the story for book 2. During the burial of bones of our ghost from book 1, Addison saw 2 girls playing in the cemetery. Rosecliff Manor Haunting takes place a few months after that. Addison dreams of 2 girls, Vivian and Grace, playing in Rosecliff Manor. One of the twins, Vivian, asks her to "remember". When she wakes up, she then eventually recalls seeing the same girls last time from the cemetery. This now will prompt her to start with ghost mystery number 2.
There is also much back story here. We once again see the characters from the previous book:
Luke, the old house restoration guy turned love interest. They are now living together in Grayson Manor. This guy for me is just too good to be true. I hope I don't discover he is a bad guy in the other books. It will break my heart. lol
Marjorie, her grandmother and is also somewhat mentoring her hone her gifts.
Helen, the old lady neighbor who is also a close friend of her grandmother, Marjorie.
Lia, the forensics officer who she foresaw will be a part of her life in the long run from the first book. They actually become much closer here.
The solving of the mystery was fun and the outcome was actually a surprise for me. I did not see it coming. But I feel that all loose ends were tied and am satisfied with how the story concluded.
Am looking forward to reading the next book! Please keep them coming!
I received a free copy of this book for review. Opinions shared are mine.
Ghost stories are my guilty pleasure, so when I had the chance to read Rosecliff Manor Haunting, it didn't matter that I hadn't read book 1. The summary was enough to make me add this to my list. Fortunately, it reads as a standalone just fine. Plenty of backstory is provided to help the reader catch up on characters and past events.
This is a very quick, easy read. I finished it in less than 1.5 hours, though I skimmed a few of the longish dialogue parts because of the fluff. Rosecliff Manor Haunting is completely non-scary...in fact, the cover is the creepiest thing about this book. It's good for younger teen readers because it has the whole murder mystery intrigue without the mature content (other than the mention of Addison and Luke living together.) Everything works out just peachy for Addison, who happens to be stunningly beautiful and has the most perfect boyfriend in the world. She finds her clues and suspects with relative ease. The plot's simplicity reminds me of The Ghost Files by Apryl Baker, or The Haunting of Sunshine Girl by Paige McKenzie. That's not a bad thing at all. It's nice to read an uncomplicated story sometimes!
The sequel was much better than the first book. No it wasn’t an amazing story, if you’re looking for accurate police procedure, you’re not going to get it, it wasn’t even scary and it was wrapped up very quickly in the end...but it was an enjoyable and easy read. It started off strong and kind of continued that way. It never really peaked or built up to anything, but it was consistent. In the first book, the investigation that Addison was doing was soooooo disjointed and tedious! It didn’t flow well and it was a struggle to get through, and all turned out to be redundant anyway. In this book, one thing led into another, all the information felt relevant to the story, and it was actually an interesting story to get into. Again, the characters are quite one dimensional. It would have been good to get to know them a little more.
So not amazing, but not bad either. Definitely much more enjoyable than book 1. It would probably be difficult to read as a stand-alone because it mentions things from the previous book and characters cross over the 2 books, and it’s written as if the author has assumed you know what happened in the first book. So wouldn’t recommend as a stand-alone
Rosecliff Manor Haunting is book 2 in the Addison Lockhart series by Cheryl Bradshaw. I have not read book 1 but will be very soon. I had no problems understanding book without reading book 1. There were references to things that happened in book 1 but there was also a very short explanation that brought me up to speed.
Cheryl Bradshaw really drug me in on page one and left me wanting book 3. The book is short and I finished it in one afternoon. There were no rushed feelings to the book, it was a very complete and thrilling story, even though it was short.
In the book Addison Lockhart has a dream of 2 twin girls. She feels they are dead. Now it is up to her to find out what really happened the night of their deaths. Was it an accident as the Police investigtion concluded or was this really a murder.
I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.
Rosecliff Manor Haunting by author Cheryl Bradshaw is the second Addison Lockhart book in the series. This is a very different genre than the Sloane Monroe series. I enjoy both series very much. In Rosecliff Manor Haunting Addison Moore has a special paranormal gift and is able to communicate with spirits which are distressed and need to move on into the afterlife. This story is about two young sisters Vivian and Grace, who died at the age of eleven. Addison has dreams which are very emotional about the girls. What are they trying to let her know about their lives and deaths? Although the girls died forty years ago, the family which remains wants the past left alone. I like the story but did NOT like the cover. The story deserved a more artistic cover and this one was hideous. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
I guess this would qualify as alright for a beach read. There isn't much too mentally demanding about it, and the mystery isn't super complex. For the most part the characters are alright, however Addison doesn't have quite the depth I prefer from my protagonists. She is a little shallow and lacking in dimension.
The book also needs some serious editing. The grammar isn't the best, particularly in keeping tenses straight. But it wasn't so bad that it disrupted the flow of the story. I actually thought the story wasn't a bad idea, if a little predictable. But I felt like Bradshaw tried to rush its development, leaving the ending feeling like she was simply trying to get it done and over with. This resulted in an ending I found somewhat sappy and trite. Overall, I would probably give this one 2 1/2 stars.
I picked up this book to broaden my reading horizons to include books about the paranormal. I’m glad I did, because, at the heart, this is a murder mystery and a 40 yr old cold case. The non-scary ghosts help drive the plot forward. If you’re looking for a blood-curdling ghost story, this is not it. MC Addison Lockhart, who is a psychic medium, is contacted by two ghosts who are unable to cross over to wherever they’re supposed to go. Addison must discover how and why they died, and whether the cause of death was accidental as the police claim or whether it was a double murder. I enjoyed Addison’s conviction and tenacity as she ferreted out the truth. This is a quick-read novella with a layered mystery storyline and characters I cared about.
Addison is a protagonist and now learning how to use it. Seeing Grace and Vivian at the cemetery, again in a dream, the dresses were an old style. Then a mystery of 40 years, a man dying and the girls crying, a mansion getting part of the name. A name at the cemetery is a particle clue. But where was the girls graves. A book had been written, that was upsetting to the community’s was it true of what the author wrote about. Luke her boyfriend is with her on uncovering the fact about the girls. I found the story to be very captivating as though we too were wanting the answers. The plot flowed, and the characters, were rich in detail of what and how they were involved. You could feel the tension the answers had been denied too long. As were the twins, wanting the answers, and to be with their father. It was a page turning with more clues right to the end.
Addison is a ghost whispered of a sort. The ability to see the dead has been passed from mother to daughter for generations. Her mother's recent death has added to her abilities, which her mother always ignored. She and her boyfriend Alex are living in her grandmother's mansion, while her grandmother travels the world. Since moving in, she has already helped a spirit of a woman buried in the property to pass over. She is in for her hardest trial yet, her body keeps being taken back in time and place to a set of twin girls who died under mysterious circumstances in the mid seventies. Her life is in danger from the people that were there that night. The more she uses her gifts, the stronger they get, as her grandmother loses more of her powers to Addison.
Fast and intriguing read!. The plot deserves five stars because the idea for the plot is so different from the paranormal books I've read in the past. If I can figure it out I lose interest, not with this book! I like the human side of it the emotions with an added romance! I don't often read that genre but I do crave it occasionally, this satisfied the craving for me!
Reminds of the Sixth Sense in a way. Although in this story a medium is tasked with the job of finding out why those who have passed on will not find peace. Is it something simple and benign or something a little more sinister?
