Marcus Lloyd Butler is a British internet personality and vlogger. He is best known for his YouTube channel Marcus Butler, which has over three million subscribers. His second channel is called MoreMarcus and his gaming channel is MarcusButlerGames.
There are four main parts to this book Part 1: Healthy living pages 10-74 Part 2: The dating game pages 74-120 Part 3: Friends & family crisis survival guide pages 120-186 Part 4: How to get the life you want pages 186-251
The first part was useful because it always help to know different methods and new knowledge based on healthy living. I thought the wide range of healthy foods and drinks were interesting and helpful, and one day soon I would love to try the smoothies. However the fitness workouts were probably no for me (I mean can you really see me doing backflips?). Fitness regimes all depends on the person, their health and their body types.
The second part didn’t really interest me, not because I don’t want to date but because I would much rather have my own experiences when it comes to “the dating game”. All interesting tips none of the less.
The third part really hit close to home because one of his friends went through the same thing my sister is currently going through, and it just really made me realise that my approach on my sisters illness really could be better. My and sister and I have never been the closest and I do sort of suffer with anger (although not physically or bad) it’s just from time to time the anger takes over and I just need to be left alone to deal and power through it.
The fourth part was really inspiring and helpful, although no amount of advice or tips Could give me the courage to master public speaking.
It was a rather enjoyable read I’d say.
“When I was five years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy”. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” - John Lennon
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently.
They’re not found of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things... They push the human race forward... While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” 🌏 - Steve Jobs, Apple
The author looks very familiar but even after reading this, I cannot connect the dots. I thought that this book read like a recipe, it was a mixture of diet tips. first crushes and a bunch of other things that I felt did not really contribute. Less is better, this book had entirely way too many things going on, thus it was not really consistent at all. It could be cause I do not know who Butler is, so I was glad that he introduced himself, but generally speaking the entire time reading, I was asking myself, okay so? Why should I care? The book came across as a guide for pre teen who is uncertain where life will take them.
Don't get me wrong,it was not horrible by any means but I don't think I was the target audience. I will assume this book is only for the fans, although the author appealed new fans as well. Anyway it was decent with the cool pictures, but did not really care about it as a whole.
I've been watching Marcus and his journey on YouTube for a couple of years now and I've read various another books written by other YouTubers so I thought why not check this one out. It offers some great advice, and great tips when it comes to dealing with certain situations and thinking about things more positively. The pictures in the book are also great to flick through before you start reading it.
Fans of his channel will practically know over half of what is written in this book but it's a great insight for those who have just subscribed to his channel or just want to know more about him.
I've never read a self-help book before, and the only other book I've read by a Youtuber is Felicia Day's. Recently I rarely go on Youtube since I prefer Tumblr, but over the past few years I've seen quite a few of Marcus's videos on his channel and on his friends' channels. While he's never been my favourite Youtuber, he's pretty up there with how silly and friendly he comes across. So when I was able to get this book from a free giveaway (not Goodreads) I was hopeful for something good, and luckily he delivered.
This isn't really what I would consider an ordinary autobiography (not that I've read many). When I think of an autobiography I imagine the author writing about all these things happening in their life in chronological order to get where they are today. Instead, Marcus splits his book into sections and uses his own experiences to give advice. You still get the same sort of background on the author, but just in a different format and I liked that. It didn't get boring because there was a nice mix of advice, anecdotes, and pictures throughout.
I think my favourite thing about this book is that he wrote about difficult subjects (grieving, having a friend with a mental illness, parental divorce) in a way that didn't seem preachy or stiff, but in a sort of brotherly advice fashion which got the point across in a casual way. While a lot of his advice is the same as the advice you'd get from other people or find online, I think it's the delivery that made it nicer, and it feels a lot more personal with Marcus because some readers already feel some sort of connection because they watch his videos. I also really want to try one of those smoothie recipes! Not the green one though.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and thought Marcus had some nice insight and gave advice in a friendly rather than cut and paste or in a condescending way. It also helps that Marcus is so young and that we can connect with him through his Youtube channel and it isn't advice given by a faceless stranger. You may not appreciate this as much if you aren't familiar with Marcus's Youtube channel, but I think you will likely enjoy this anyway. If you watch him on Youtube definitely give this a read, though!
Here's the thing; I used to watch Marcus's videos punctually when I was 15 so that's like 4 years ago. When the book came out I desperately wanted to get my hands on it because I was just so excited! I'm sure if the 15 year old me would've read this one,she would've undoubtedly given it 5 stars and she would've spent more time gawking at the pictures than actually reading the book. I mean Marcus has done a good job with the tips and all but I can't say that it'll help anyone whose beyond the age of 18 so like, the book is definitely a self help book- but for the younglings...
Out of all the You Tuber's that have brought out books so far, I have enjoyed Marcus' the best. Not only does it have some of the best advice out there, he also talks about more difficult topics, such as family death, eating disorders and family divorce. I think this book will help not just teenagers as it has lots of subjects in there that can help anyone of any age. If you want the best health routine too, then open this book. Well done Marcus for writing a very enjoyable and helpful book!
This book is clearly aimed at the younger teenage audience and as an outsider of that age group, I can imagine that it would be helpful. I love how Marcus comes across like an older brother and his advice on lifestyle changes and healthy eating.
Overall it's a well presented and helpful book. One of the better one's from the youtube clique.
I'd never heard of this Youtuber before (I live under a rock) until I found Butler's book at Dollar Tree. Honestly, the reason I bought this book is because he's a Youtuber and Youtube is my latest hobby. Hello Life! is pretty good for what it is: an advice book for 14 year-olds written by a 20 year-old.
Ein Ratgeber fürs Leben. Eigentlich lese ich sowas nicht, aber ich liebe Marcus und habe das Buch von meinem Bruder bekommen. Und was soll ich sagen: ich liebe es und kann es nur weiterempfehlen :D
Marcus Butler is a British Youtuber who I have been watching for a few years now, so when I heard he had a book coming out I was excited to read it. My mom actually ended up winning a signed copy which was AWESOME! I read the entire thing in just over a day and let me tell you this, it was fantastic. Practically perfect!
His knowledge of certain subjects is astounding and I really had no idea he had been through so much as he had or had this much wisdom to pass on to his readers. I have heard some people have been disappointed by books from Youtubers but this one is different, this one was full of so much insight and ideas on living your best life today. It wasn't exactly an autobiography but I definitely felt like I knew him a lot better than before as well as feeling inspired to improve my day to day life.
Some of the things spoken about allows for you to feel as though you are not alone and that many others have felt the way you have or might feel in the future. For some reason after reading this book I was more at ease for this very reason and actually one of the reasons I loved this so much.
Finally, we are let into his success and how we can take our dreams and turn them into reality. The step to step guides within each chapter help to break down things like this and make it easier to see how we can reach individual goals. Definitely what I needed!
A book by a YouTuber you will not regret picking up!
"Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try."
YouTubers are releasing books left, right and centre, and Marcus Butler is no different. Hello Life! allows his viewers an insight into his world, problems he's faced and decisions he's made that have led him to his current lifestyle.
This book is filled with sometimes amusing, sometimes emotional anecdotes about Marcus's life, and covers topics from bullying to bereavement and from healthy living to family drama. Each topic is addressed with care and attention and features helpful tips as to how to deal with them.
The book is primarily aimed at 12-16 year old females, although there is some useful advice for people of all ages and genders. Marcus never proclaims to be an expert at anything, and his modesty came through in his words, but with the fanbase he has this book could hold within its pages some pivotal advice for young teens.
I enjoyed this book so much! I found Marcus' advice really helpful and I am definitely going to take it on board. I also enjoyed the pictures and how they were set out and the typography in the book. Definitely a must read!
I was really impressed with this book. I went in not expecting much because I've noticed Youtuber books aren't all that great. However, Marcus did well with this!! I'm definitely going to use his tips in my life!
Marcus is a very popular Youtuber I have followed for years now but have only just picked up his book he wrote a while ago now.
Marcus tells us of his fitness journey, and dating escapades before enlightening us into his past school days when he went through a phase of being a troublemaker before settling into better friendships.
We could see how much he cares about his family and friends as he tells us of his Nan's death and being a shoulder to cry on for his sisters and mum during the time as well as doing all he could to support his friend as she went through her anorexia battle in and out of hospital for treatment.
Overall Marcus shows us all through his life up to now and proves what a great role model he is now to his young fans.
In my personal opinion the Target age for most of the advice in the book is for ages 14 - 20 but it was very well written and easy to relate with. The health & fitness section was by far the best in the book but that's coming from a 25 year old adult who's already been through most of what the book talks about
I was very excited to purchase and read his new book, and I genuinely enjoyed it and the topics Marcus discussed in it. In this book, Marcus talks about health, dating, how to survive a crisis with friends & family, and how to be successful.
What I liked was Marcus would start each topic talking about his experience in that area, and then would give advice or tips afterwards that could help you. I loved reading about health and how he changed his lifestyle to a healthy one. He and Niomi are both inspiring so many people to be healthier, myself included, so it's nice to read what inspired him and how he stays motivated.
I love Marcus and Niomi together, and I really enjoyed reading about how they met to when they started dating. I'm very sad that they recently broke up. I found out just after reading that chapter of Marcus' book. But I respect that you can't know everything that's going on in other peoples lives, especially those that put a large part of their lives on social media. I wish them all the best!
Marcus went through some of the crisis's he's experienced in his life with friends and family, and talked about how he dealt with it. He also talked about his YouTube story and how it all began. This book is great if you're a fan of Marcus' as you learn more about him as well as get some helpful advice in certain areas from his perspective. Well done Marcus on a great book!
Marcus started his YouTube channel in 2010 and I became one of his subscribers in 2012 when I was going through some really tough stuff at school and I still am a very loyal fan of his. He's an amazing guy and stupidly enough, I call him one of my friends even though he doesn't know me. But his videos and friendship got me through a lot of rough stuff and always put a smile on my face. I hope one day to meet him in person and tell him how much his videos mean to me. Reading this book was like watching one of his videos. It made me smile and I could almost hear him in the book, which was lovely. But unfortunately, I felt like the structure of the book itself was a little unorganized and jumped around a lot but I really enjoyed getting to know Marcus on a more personal level again. There's a lot of stuff in this book that he doesn't talk about in his videos, so that's really cool. For those of you that don't watch Marcus, don't bother reading his book. But for those of you that have been his loving "butt-butts" with sexy faces, it's a must read :) love you Marky butt butt <3
Hello Life! is INCREDIBLE! Discovering Marcus' life within a book was like discovering a friend from the wild because they have been through so much that you sometimes lose the thought of what you originally thought of them. Reading through what Marcus has been through before Youtube really reminds me that everyone you see, whether it's a famous person or that popular kid in school, is human and experiences mistakes. This book includes many life tips and how to manage dilemmas within them and surprisingly, a lot of them were helpful :D It was just missing a star because some chapters talked about things I wasn't particularly into. Great book.
I think this was the second book I've read from a Youtuber. This book was an easy read but I think the editing of this book was just totally off. It started with being healthy and all that stuff. So, I was actually thinking this book was all about being healthy. Although the author's writing was okay. It wasn't properly written. Like, this book was all over the place. But I actually appreciated his advices on life, and among other stuff. Definitely younger audience will love this book.
Over all this was okay. By far, the best book from a youtuber I've read.( *Note: Ive only read two books from Youtuber )
Hello Life! is a book that I read during Summer Break and it is officially now in my top 5 books. I am a person who likes socialization, healthy living, and solving with family issues. Those topics are in the book and that's why I really like this book. Marcus Butler writes a lot about his experience and I feel like I can totally relate to his life. There were many things that happened in his life that I was so happy, shocked, or even excited about. This book is kind of like a "self-help" type of book, but I still absolutely loved it! The way he writes is amazing because he gives it a funny and exciting detail to it. I give this book a 100%!
Definitely not as good as most of the other memoirs written by youtubers this past year. I've been watching marcus for years now, and the same thing that bugs me in his videos bugs me in the book, his thoughts on nutrition are rarely based on anything remotely resembling actual science. It isn't as annoying in his videos, because it's relatively rare when he talks about it, but, it's pretty prevalent in the book.
This books a good read, it's not nearly as monumental as some "self-help" books but it's interesting. I found the first section on healthy living to be the most influential (I've even tried his work out a few times!). The best part about this book is that it's coming from a You Tuber as if he's your friend. We all know Marcus and that gives the book a level of personality that is hard to reach. I also love the books layout and style! Congratulations on your first book Marcus!
