“Sir, my own platoon turned on itself. I watched two of our squads open fire on us – not by mistake! They attacked us.”

This wasn’t a bad book, but it just didn’t hold my attention well. I kept reading because I wanted to know what happened to Gabriel, but I just kept wanting to put this down. I think the main problem was that the pace was too slow for me, it seemed to take forever for anything to happen, and I’m not a very patient person.
I do think other people will enjoy this book, it just wasn’t for me. Maybe a case of wrong book-wrong person?

(I received a copy from the author, In exchange for an honest review.)

The characters in this had changed a lot from what they were like in book one, and I didn't like either of them.

This one started out a lot slower than book one did, and I was quite bored because of it. After a bit, the action kicked in, so it wasn't quite so bad. I did still find it drag a few times, and it felt like a really long read, but this may have been because I read the books back to back.

Overall, An okay read.

February 2016 Review:
Actual Rating: 4.75

I decided to re-read this book because the author has re-published it. I have to say just like the first book, it was a major improvement from the original, in my opinion. I like how the book gives the readers hope for the characters in the next book. I thought the characters were great. Also, I thought the story was better and flowed more fluently. It was better than the original. For my original review, look below. Can't wait to read book 3. Overall, an amazing read.

June 2015 Review:
Actual Rating: 4.5

Same as the first book, the story is slow paced throughout most of the story. However, as you read further, the plot slowly starts to build and the writing style has improved from the last book. Therefore, the story flowed more smoothly than the first book. I thought the characters were relatable. I also loved the new characters because I got to learn more about ore users and what the black ore can do to a person. I wish there was more on Adin in this book. Also, I thought that there were some parts of the plot that I wanted to rush through. The ending was great, and gave me hope for the characters if the story continues. It was an interesting read. I can't wait for what is next!

I found this book very hard to get into compared to the first :/ It took 30% of the book to get started, which I didn't really like. I kept putting it down and couldn't really concentrate.
I felt like Gabriel was a whole other person in this book and that had me confused in the beginning, so it took me a while to get back into it.

There was a lot of action in this one, but I felt like it should've started from page 1 and not first a 100 pages in, because it felt kind of rushed and I felt like it wasn't explained all too well at times.

The characters I liked. Nate was a bit weird in the beginning of the book, but he was still a great character and I actually think he's my favorite.

I know this book series isn't bad, it's just not really my taste. I know there are people out there who really like this book! It's like when I read All Quiet on the Western Front, I wasn't a fan of the book but it's a loved classic and all of the boys in my class enjoyed it! Anyway, in this book the pace was just too slow for me, I could never pay that good of attention, I just wanted to put the book down. I just wanted to be finished. I wish I could of liked this series more :/

Once again B.V. Bayly has captured the essence of mystery, evil, and goodness with the turn of every page. B.V. Bayly writes from an imagination which can keep pace with the best writers of sci-fi / fiction. Eden's ore Revelations, a book meant to be read without rest until the last page.

***Minor spoilers***

I liked this book more than the first one. I still found it a bit difficult to get into again. It started out pretty slow, and I found it slower than the first book, actually. There were also parts that I feel like it dragged, and bored me quite a bit. I enjoyed this book more than the first one because it felt like more interesting stuff and more action was happening.

Gabriel was annoying me for the first little bit of this book. He seemed like he wasn't thinking straight and just wanted to charge into battle without so much as a plan. Thankfully, he came to his senses eventually, but not before I wanted to slap him across the face for being so stupid. Nate's character really annoyed me in this one. It seemed like he didn't serve much of a purpose besides complaining that the ore users were taking his place as a soldier. It seemed like he couldn't get it through his head that he wasn't a match for an ore user.

I was really thankful for the increase in action in this one. Last book bored me because it seemed like it was almost all politics and almost no action. The writing style also seemed to improve since the last book. Unfortunately, I found some parts a bit predictable.

Despite its flaws, this book was a pretty solid read, and an improvement from the last one. It's a pretty unique concept and if you enjoy sci-fi, I'd definitely tell you to give the series a shot.

I read this back-to-back with the first book and I was very satisfied with how it evolved. Immediately I noticed enhancement of the author's writing and of how it became so much more captivating. I love reading a series and being able to see how the author continues to become an even better writer, and that's what I saw in this book.
The story also evolved really smoothly, and I would see pieces fall together and it's so amazing all together. I loved reading Gabriel's growth throughout the first, and especially this one and I think the author developed that really well.
I could keep going but the main thing is this book is definitely added to my favorite list. A big thing that bothers me in writing is when it's overly dramatic. I thought B.V. Bayly expressed his characters emotions perfectly without dramatising them or portraying self-pity(unless it was intended based on the character). Same with specific events. He made them intense without being unrealistic or, like I said before, excesssivly dramatising it. Great job to B.V. Bayly! You have by far earned the respect of a new fan! :D

description

WOW! This book contained so much action, it was a little difficult to contain all the action in one book! It was as if the book has a mind on its own and had the desire to act it out in reality too!

Although the book had a lot of action scenes, there was much more emotions and romance involved in this one. Certain things that were unclear in the first one come in to light in this book! All I could make out from this book was that one misunderstanding led to another, a lot of lies were told and secrets were hidden which made the book more complicated to understand and exhilarating at the same time. Some of the love interests displayed within this book, now THAT I did not expect!

It was a much better read, a bit dragging in some places like when Gabriel could not come to terms with his identity, but overall a good read.

Its always exciting when you find a new author, usually it’s after they have written a few books and often you have the joy of reading backwards to their first books.

This time however I was able to start reading B.V. Bayly from the very start.

The first book (Eden's Ore: Secrets) was a really good read but maybe lacked a bit of slickness and polish - which didn't distract from an intriguing storyline and lots of action, this second book Eden’s Ore Revelations certainly has meet that need for slickness and polish, I was less reading the book to write a review to reading the book because I really enjoyed it!

If you like intrigue, fantasy, sci-fi and action - that leaves you guessing - all rolled into the future then I would certainly suggest you give B.V. Bayly a read.

B.V. Bayly one to watch!

Once again I find myself wanting to stand fight alongside Gabriel, fighting for justice, for freedom. In this book, book two of Eden's Ore, Gabriel struggles with his desire to live a simple live away from the complexities of the world and his calling to fight a war, not just fight in but become a leader. At times this struggle is almost annoying, I wanted to yell at him, "Just accept who you are and get on with it!" However, in time he accepts his calling, his purpose; and with this acceptance he becomes stronger. I look forward to reading the next book, and learning if the evil can be overcame.

The promise of an exciting and fast paced story made by the end of eden's ore secrets has been kept through the entire second book, with excellent characters and an exciting story to tell B.V. Bayly has captured my interest and created something a person wants to be a part of.

I received an ebook version of this book in exchange for an honest review from the author himself.

This is book 2 of the Eden's Ore books. This book started up where the last one ended. Nate and his team with the help of the Church go looking for the weapons developed using ore power. It's Gabriel's job to destroy the black ore and then he and Nate get to go home. The plan backfires as the team is ambushed by guards in hiding waiting for them. Gabriel finds out his brother Adin has been experiment on and is now an ore user too. He eventually finds the black ore and intends to destroy it. He does but it almost costs him his life. The group discover the church is going down some of the members have joined the Horsemen. But who's friend and who's foe? Can they really trust anyone? Meanwhile Gabriel finds his brother has become a black ore user or "black soul" can Gabriel save him or does he have to kill him? The group also discovers a town where normal ordinary people and ore users live happily in peace away from T.E.R.A. Gabriel wants to settle down here since it seems like the perfect spot to raise a family but is it? Not everything is as it seems. Gabriel is suddenly thrust into a leadership role but doesn't want it, all he wants is his normal life back ,to save his brother and find somewhere where the ore doesn't interfere with his life anymore but is that even possible? Will the war with T.E.R.A. and now the Horsemen ever end and will Gabriel join the fight? To find out you've got to read this book.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 star rating. It was full of action, some suspense, and a whole lot of mystery.

It did have some dull parts to get through though. For me there were too many characters that I had to remember like who was who and who's side they were all on. Again I did find some grammar errors.

But overall this book was great to read. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy, action, mystery, with a little romance all in one book.

UPDATE 2/17/16

I got to read the new version of this book again for free in exchange for an honest review.

Last time I gave this 4 out 5 stars. My rating still stands the same. I'm glad that this book was also rewritten because last time Gabriel seemed liked a whiner to me. How he didn't want to join in the fight, just wanted to stay back and live like a normal person, and got angry when anyone asked to him fight. I thought this book was pretty much the same throughout and couldn't figure out what changes were made to it other than Gabriel's change of character, how he excepted that he had to fight, he still didn't want tot be a leader, but this time he wasn't a whiner. The ending chapters of this book were the best and I think that's what changed most of all.

I would still recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy books.

Reviews (books 1&2) @ BookPoisoning

"We are just waiting for the lights to fail. For this world to turn off, till all they have left is the ore. Then it will be our time. No more hiding"

So, the plot thickens in this one, the characters' fate is left hanging and I'm guessing a big battle is looming in the next book. Unfortunately, there are too many things happening at once. I get that it's somewhat realistic to show so many different sides and allegiances, but you can feel yourself getting lost in the middle of all this. As in the first book, I feel like there's a huge problem of characterization, like the whole process isn't complete. To those main and almost-main characters that we don't know that much about, are added even more secondary/tertiary characters, just names really, characters we only see for a few chapters before we forget all about them. The villains are all very one-dimensional. I kind of lost patience half-way through.

Two other things : the completely forced, unexplained and unnecessary romance. We've barely seen Gabriel and Claire interact with each other in the first book and suddenly they're mad for each other, each other's reason for living, and from a reader's point of view, it doesn't make sense. Especially to me, who's so picky when it comes to romance in fiction. Same goes for Nate and Celes. Other than the fact that I think Nate is one of the least interesting character in these books, why the need to pair them up when, again, they've barely interacted before their romance is forced on us ? I also wanted to point out that the action scenes were a bit hard to go through. The author has this stop-and-start way of writing action, in which the sentences are very short and concise, there's a period every 6 or so words and I think the narrative loses its rhythm because of it.

Then again, I liked the last few chapters a bit more than the rest, and they almost made me want to know what happens next. I stand by my first rating though, because it really wasn't enough to make up for the previous 200 pages.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I did not want to stop reading, but yet didn't want the adventure to end.
There was LOTS of action, without being overly graphic it left something to stimulate my imagination. His descriptions were well worded and interesting. I was engrossed in the complex characters and their relationships (even a little romance) - I really liked and related to some of them, and totally disliked others.
The plot was very intriguing and kept me involved. The battle between good and evil had me relating to the struggle within all of us; yet the view that he presented of the future world was more than just your typical "good vs evil" - very well developed! His view does not leave you feeling bleak and hopeless, but there is still a place for the good. In the contrasts between humans and the "more-than-humans", and the choices they often had to make in using their particular gifts; plenty of thought-provoking ideas were raised. It made me contemplate on how the moral, political, and spiritual implications correlate to our current world.
Overall this book was an excellent sequel to the equally enjoyable "Eden's Ore: Secrets". I am looking forward to more from this author!

This book follows on from the previous book and while it still has a story that continues on seems like an entirely different concept that I found incredibly difficult to follow.

The main character is again Gabriel and while we would expect a character in the second book in the series to have some development he has none. I found him to be worse than in the first book with nothing new to add to himself or his powers gained from the ore.

The secondary characters I found most noteworthy were Nate and Claire, Nate is almost the same as in the previous book except from in this book he takes on a much more serious role within his group again the ore. Claire in this book is somewhat of a love interest for Gabriel and attempts to give him more of human properties as the shard takes control of his life more.

The storyline and pacing in this book are the main problems; the storyline is even more complex than in the first and although the book is called revelations I thought nothing was revealed. The pacing made it very difficult to read this book as it was far too slow for there to be any significant storyline changes.

I’m really sorry this book was just not for me, 2 stars.

I enjoyed this book quite a lot. Gabriel was a bit annoying and sounded immature at first, but there is an explanation for that later on. I get it, but I would have liked to see him acting like the leader we all know he's meant to be. I think we'll see more of that in the next book!
Nate was a bit disappointing. It felt like he found himself a girlfriend and he stopped being a father figure to Gabriel and became a kinda passive friend. He deserves to be happy, but I felt he stopped being who he was.
I really like the setting of the story. We get to see how ore users live, what they have to endure and the potential there is in an alliance between humans and ore users to fight this war and also to be able to live peacefully together.
Some people say that it is a slow book, but I really enjoy getting to feel the story and I don't need action in every chapter. That being said, a bit more of fights would have been great, because fights between people with powers are always fun to read.

Honestly? I much preffered this book, it was actually a pretty good read. I got to connect with the characters a little more in this installment as well as meeting some new ones. We also got a lot more romance in this book. Gabriel found his peace, which enabled him to grow and accept who he is so that he could connect to the ore that is so much a piece of him now.

Gabriel is very much a reluctant hero at first. He just wants to get on with his life but he soon realizes that saving people in need is very much in his blood and his personality.

This story had depth and was just a light and adventurous read. I very much enjoyed it.

I thought the writing in Eden's Ore: Revelations was better than the first book, Eden's Ore: Secrets. It was a hard for me to get into it though. Maybe the pace was a little slow for my liking at first.

However, I did keep reading because I liked Gabriel and wanted to find out what happens to him,(although he was irritating in the first part of the book because he didn't think anything through). And I was happy I kept reading because the action was kicked up a notch.

I think that maybe these two books were probably not my cup of tea.

After reading the first book 'Eden's Ore Secrets', I was desperate to start with the second one in the series. The first few chapters of the book and I ran like a race-horse, reading and reading... biting my nails off!! And then... Spoiler Alert!! Gabriel turned 'Selfish'! What?
I felt heart-broken and wanted to stop reading! Could I? Naah!! Never!! I had to know, does our hero really just stop fighting for good? Will he really turn his back over others who need him? His god-father Nate?... lots of questions in mind.
Be prepared, this book will give you lots of questions and you have to wait for them to be answered. That's the P.O.P of this book.
The best thing about this book that the suspense never ends, even if certain plots are predictable yet there is uncertainty. Unlike the first book, Eden's Ore Revelations is a little slow-paced. At the same time there is a saying, 'Good things come to those who wait'.
Hope.
It can push back the darkness.
Fight off the fear.
Give your strength when you have none.
In hope, we find our true selves.

Eden's Ore Revelations is an action-packed novel with sweet-little drops of unexpected romance and a little family drama.
In book-1, Gabriel was fighting T.E.R.A and putting an end to the problems created by them. In this book, he realizes that what he did back there, which almost took his life was just the beginning... This thought tore him apart and he loses hope. His desire to begin what he has lost in the past (his family), he undergoes a change of mind, but does he really change?
The Action
"Gabriel was enraged. He twisted on the ground, his fists tightening. He slammed them against the rock floor, and they burst into a fiery white glow of energy, shattering the floor...."
Woohoo... there you go! Hit that, Yay!! Super-thrilling fight scenes. I just loved reading them the most, they were so spontaneous that you could actually visualize the entire fight right in front of you. The words chosen were so accurate and neat. Very Super-natural!
I felt the action scenes actually provided the acceleration where the plot went on a slow-pace.
The Romance and Family-Drama
Well, Spoiler Alert!! I did not expect Nate would fall in love with someone, that too an Ore User.
Nate, the character of a Godfather to Gabriel was a strong man who has always sacrificed his happiness for Gabriel and his family. But every tough man has a soft side. This book talks about real human emotions; what a soldier could feel on the battleground either for his family or his lover. Gabriel, who wishes to start a family that he could never have, yet his inner-gut would not allow him from saving mankind. Other Ore-users who have undergone the pain of torture, they can't control their emotions when they see such torture on others.
Every character has a background associated with them and a role that they play in this book. The characters are beautifully described and appropriate at the instances where they were supposed to be put.
The Plot
Sadly, this book will not answer all of your questions. Adin, Gabriel's brother is still a big question mark. Gabriel's decision is slightly under the mist of emotions, yet strong enough to save mankind. Will Dominus be able to recall his past? Ah! It's frustrating yet exciting that there is another part where I have to find my answers.
The story yet revolves around the powerful organization T.E.R.A who captures ore-users and torture them to recharge ores and save man-kind in their own inhuman ways. The horsemen who are the super-powerful villains who control T.E.R.A and intend to convert all ore-users and start a new beginning. The Church, who still believe that ore-users should be dead but have lost their strength to the horsemen and have been engulfed with corruption. Finally, we have the ore-users who are limited in numbers and need more people to fight black-ore users and T.E.R.A.
So, this book is more like a closed door. You will not find your answers in it, perhaps read the third one! It builds-up the questions in your mind and leaves you with possible guesses until you read the next in series.
I guess until then I have to wait for my answers.
Regarding this book, I would only suggest having some patience with certain plots because at times it does feel that things are just not happening, its very slow and when will we reach the end... But, that feeling is also the reason as we feel impatient to reach the end and our impatience makes us feel that the book is slow-paced. Well, that's what I went through, and am sharing the same with you.
Drawback
There are lots of loose ends with no answers to them in this particular book. That creates impatience, which was good at certain times but as there is no sequel to this book at the moment it also creates a drawback. I am hoping to read the next part soon...
Just hold your breath, take some time, and see what happens!! Enjoy reading.

The author provided me with a copy of this book in return for a review.
Revelations continues the story of Gabriel as he comes to terms with the fact that not everything is as black and white as he thought it was when he was a child. We follow him as he struggles to understand and accept the shades of grey in the world into which he finds himself thrust as a saviour ("someone who saves") and struggles to accept the burden. (I was waiting for him to say Father why have you forsaken me?)

It was an entertaining read, but should be aimed at new readers, or perhaps readers new to fantasy. It reminded me a little of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn world, only with gems instead of metals.

The second novel of this series picks up the pace a little as the main character gains some maturity, the other characters gain depth, though the women remain two dimensional throughout with no originality of thought or character and described in physical terms, or relationship roles. I feel the story suffers from a lot of religious baggage, and a mishmash of religious symbolism- the character names, the origin of the ore in Eden, forces of light against dark, and of course the horsemen of revelations. When good becomes corrupt, the only way to save people is by force, and only one person can do it... but it's ok, because they are thankful once they have been violently purified.

It plays a bit with the concept of post human, but not in any depth, and addresses the realisation that adults you once thought were superhuman are just human after all. As Gabriel continues his coming of age, we see his acceptance of responsibility and the cynicism that comes of trusting too much too many times. It is interesting that as more people pin their hopes on Gabriel, the less hope he seems to have for himself. I'm curious to see how that plays out.

There's a nice exploration of how the world could live harmoniously with everyone contributing what they can to the limits of their abilities, and it is interesting that this happens in the absence of the church or the corporation that control the world. I would have liked to explore that idea in more detail.

It appears there will be another novel in the series to finish Gabriel's metamorphosis into what he is destined to become, but I am not so sure that I care. Considering his 'gift' and the support around him, he is mostly just a spoilt brat whining that his life isn't fair. I am more interested in seeing how the world resolves its energy crisis and power struggle. I am curious to see whether the good guys become corrupt when they become powerful, And the resolution to the question of where the evil goes when you take it away.

*I received a copy for free in exchange for an honest review*

“Revelations” starts right were “Secrets” left off – in fact, a part actually overlaps. Interestingly enough, at first the story isn’t centered around Gabriel . Instead, we get a close-up of Nate and are introduced to some new people.

“Revelations” keeps up a fast pace and there are plenty of revelations, I wasn’t disappointed. While “Secrets” seemed a bit vague to me, I could see where “Revelations” was heading. And let me tell you, it’s a dark place.

While ore users posed an abnormality and rarity in book 1, there’s little else we encounter in book 2. There’s much more on what blue/green/red and well… other ore users can do. And even better – those abilities were pretty well thought through, nothing like “wouldn’t it be convenient if the blue/green/red ore could…?” And that’s super important! So dear authors, don’t get too comfortable with the power you hold over your story!

I really liked the thought put into world building, plot twists and the abysmal depth of the human mind. Gabriel should be the counterpart to all that darkness, but I found him to be rather weak. Saving people is “what he does” and he’s the only one who can really. But while super heroes without doubts are just plain implausible, Gabriel’s “leave me alone with this war, I just want to build a house and plant a tree”-attitude didn’t sit well with me. How was I supposed to root for him?

Well, that’s where Claire comes in, isn’t it? A beautiful scientist (or at least she was supposed to be one but after Gabriel entered, well…) with some ore aptitudes herself falls for him after she sees what he can do (before, she ignored him). She’s nice enough but there is just no relationship building. I loved the part where they slowly started to get close in “Secrets”. But in “Revelations”? Boom, it’s as if they had been together for years. Clearly, Claire was introduced to balance all the fighting and make Gabriel more human. But while I appreciate that this isn’t a romance with some dystopian elements, not enough time was spent on Claire’s introduction to the story.

Anyway, that’s as we say in German complaining on a pretty high level. So overall, well done, B.V. Bayly!

I really liked this book! The plot kept my attention and the fast-paced actions scenes made the time fly by as I was reading it. I heard someone else describe it as being "comic book like" and I like that analogy. There are good guys and bad guys, and enough twists and turns that I couldn't predict what was coming next. Like the first book, I saw the whole novel play out in my mind like a movie. However, there were two things though that really struck me about this book (and hence warrant my five-star rating) and pleasantly surprised me. The first thing was the realization that I missed these characters. There was quite a gap between when I finished Eden's Ore Secrets and when I began reading Revelations. I wasn't even done the first chapter when I became aware that I was glad to be spending time with Nate and Gabriel again. It felt like I was checking in with old friends. That was quite a pleasant surprise to me. The second thing that really got my attention with this book was the growth of the author. I am not a writer, but I can appreciate how writing a novel is no easy task. With Secrets I felt like I could see some maturing of B.V. Bayly from the opening few chapters to the end of the book. Almost like he found his groove. With Revelations it is obvious that the author is putting in the time needed to learn and perfect his craft. His writing is different somehow... improved... matured.... I am excited for the next installment! Not only do I want to see what happens to my friends, but I look forward to seeing the evolution of B.V. Bayly's skill. This one is full of potential.

This book was very Black ore White ... ore.

The white ore vs the black ore, good vs evil, Gabriel vs the Horseman. Will Gabriel save the world or will he crumble under the need for him to lead? Well we won't find out in this book so you'll just have to wait till the third.

This book was more about Gabriel finding himself and truly discovering his relationship with the ore, and how he can use it to save the world from the black ore.

Usually the second book is quite boring and just sets you up for the third book but really, I quite liked this book.
It's got some more kick ass fight scenes, some real plot twists (that I predicted in the early stages of the first book but still exciting to see it happen), and ultimately just makes you understand more about this world in the future, and who the real enemy is... DUN DUN DUUUNNNNN.

I have already recommended this book to everyone I have talked to, I really enjoy them and hope others can too.

I have read both of B.V.Bayly's book and enjoyed immensely. They are a fast paced, action filled with startlingly clear descriptions. You get involved with the characters right away. I would highly recommend them to readers who want more than just a good read but to get involved with the lives of the characters. Waiting for book 3!!
